it's part of a school trip though :P

Hey that's great! Are you staying with a French family? Or are you staying in a b&b/hotel?

How long are you there for? Maybe you should take a mobile so you can text your Mum once or twice to let her know you are OK (although calling would be hideously pricey so don't even entertain the idea of that). French telephone boxes are also a massive rip off. Have you got your Euros yet? And have you packed enough socks? :rofl:

I never went to France/Germany on a school trip which is probably why I fell behind in those subjects... I DID get to go to Swansea for geography though and we all came back burned to smithereens because we hadn't expected a heat wave in April and we spent the whole time by the sea. It was really a geology trip - all that Old Red (Devonian) Sandstone etc... YAY!

Have a fun and safe time in France jediknight!   :)  England's location to the Continent is one of the things I admire because for us here in the United States it is a haul to get to just about anywhere to visit.

Well, we were in the tropics once, but we muscled our way up to be somewhere a little more temperate... ::)

Well, it's fair to say the young jedi has been bouncing off the ceiling this past couple of days in anticipation of his first trip abroad sans parents ... muggins here has had the job of ensuring he has a selection of clean garments etc to take with him (yes, I can confirm he has plenty of socks, unless the sock monster intervenes of course!  :rofl:) ... yes, he has Euros and sterling to take with him too, as the kids will be buying lunch each day and of course there's bound to be souvenirs he'll want to buy as well.  ;)  ::)
He should be doing history-related coursework and of course French language work too whilst he's there, but it sounds like College have a packed itinerary for them and they'll get time out for some touristy stuff as well.
They travel by coach to Dover, then by ferry across the English Channel to Calais and will be stopping in Rouen for two days before travelling to stay near to Paris. They'll be stopping in hotels rather than with families or B & B's Roz, so everyone is expected to be on best behaviour accordingly. ;)
They travel back on Friday to Calais where they'll travel via Eurostar to Folkestone where they'll pick up the coach again and travel back to Derby arriving back late evening.
I'm sure he'll tell you all about where he's been and what he's seen and done when he gets back and if he asks me nicely, I might be persuaded to host any decent pics he takes once he gets his film developed and I scan them in on the comp. ;)

It's going to seem very quiet in the house next week ...  :-\ :'(

Sharon!! I can translate that without babel fish!! HaHa!!! I adore les longue de chats ... cat's tongues ... and I can only hope he can find some nummy choccie for me to guzzle that won't cost him a small fortune!  ;D

Oh wow when I went to France we stayed in a leaky castle and ate stale bread!  Kids of today, spoilt rotten  ;)

For my sins I studied French for 8 years and was even stupid enough to take it up to A level where I failed the exam spectacularly ... I bet I understand more than I could ever speak the language now - the young jedi started spoken French lessons during his last year at primary school as I did, but started doing German during yr 7 at senior school and only started back with French at the start of this year ... so he's doing both languages where as I only did the one. I studied a bit of German at evening classes, so he'll be outstripping the little I've done fairly soon I expect! ;) ;D

Babel fish is an absolute hoot if you transalate a phrase and then re-translate it back to the original language ... talk about mangle the language! :rofl:

Have fun young Jedi! I have not been able to make it to France, but it's definitely on my list! The food is said to be magnifique :)

And I understood as well Sharon - I'm happy to say that 7 years of Francais has not gone to waste :rofl:

I also learnt Japanese for a year and Latin as well :P

*sighs* ... well he's on his way ... up at 5am ... fed and watered and then over to College ... the coach left there promptly at 6:15am and I'm back at home twiddling my thumbs until I need to leave for work!  :-\
Even the cat has retreated to her favourite perch and is asleep!  :P

I've no idea what he'll make of the food over in France Jo - we've told him he has totry it even if he doesn't particularly want to ... 5 days of continental breakfasts will make him appreciate his Frosted Shreddies, cup of Earl Grey tea and Actimel drink a little more methinks! :P ;)

It's like Ed says, although 'I'm off to France' sounds very glamorous, and sure a whole foreign country is very scary at Jedi's age. Actually, lots of places are still scary to me now so that doesn't change :) Especially Aus for the fierce wildlife, especially Drop Bears :o ;) To be fair though it's not too far to France and if all went horribly wrong Jules could be over there like a flash :) So he'll be fine and have great fun.

Jules if he sends a postcard could you scan in the pic? :D

Yes, the intrepid young jedi has returned home safely late on Friday evening, so the rest of the weekend has seen me catching-up on the small hillock of dirty washing he brought back with him and slouching off to see OOTP (again) with him today!  ;) ;D

LOL nor would I but most young uns today seem to love it  :rofl: I hope that he had a realy good time over there & this will be the start of his jet setting future  ;D (With of course Mum to do the sandwiches LOL)

From what he's told us he had a smashing time thanks!  ;) 8)
