: German Retail Boxes available - first base and foil card scans
: Tower June 20, 2007, 12:37:43 AM
Hi everyone,

what a surprise, i didn't know it yet. When i was shopping at the local supermarket today, i saw a box with packs for sale. And wow, i saw Retail packs of the German version of the Order of the Phoenix set, produced by Artbox, distributed by Preziosi Collection in Italy (German distribution). And the packs are available. :)
So i bought one of the packs with 5 retail cards for 1,50 €.  :P

The last time, we had something similar (a German base set, but without foils like this time) was with the release of the POA movie and it's first card set, the German set distributed by Cards Inc. So now we'll have another German set, nice.

And last time all the base cards were 100% the same as in the US version by Artbox. So you'll probably see the first cards of the new OOTP set now, we'll have the same in the US release, i'm almost sure.

I pulled the R1 puzzle foil card and base cards number 01, 33, 38 and 50 out of my pack. The R1 doesn't have any German writing on the back, you'll probably pull the 100% same looking card everywhere else in the world.

The quality of these cards is disappointing, i can only hope, cause they were produced in Italy by a different distributor. Not better than the base cards of GOFU (i didn't like), maybe a bit worse, no good cuts ...  :-\

So take a look now:

Interesting that artbox allowed these to come out before the US set

the pack has the artbox branding on it so it is definately their product so I would think it will be identical images as you say

it does kind of spoil the supprise artbox tries to make the sets ( that is the only reason i can think of for the lack of info)

OOOOH!!! How exciting!!!  ;D But in the same breath...I really hope that the hobby cards are not like GOFU!! I didn' like them either. They don't smell good!!   ;) Seriously...I didn't think the quality was nearly as good as the first sets!!!

I wonder if there will be retail costume cards?

For sure, there won't be Retail Costumes in the German set. 90 base cards, 9 puzzle foil cards says the back of the pack (well it only says 9 "special" cards).

Cool!! Nice find Thomas!!  8) ;D
I hope some complete sets find their way onto  :ebay: as it's always nice to get different language versions of these sets ... well I think it is ...  ::) ;)

I couldn't resist to buy 2 more packs today, so here are the inserts, the new Death Eater cards are R5 and R9 and i think, all 9 cards have Death eaters on the front. The puzzle on the back seems to have at least the world "Death".

I LIKE the look of this set!!
Thomas - I really thought you would have bought a couple of boxes of these cards at least and shown us what the whole set will look like!  ;) ;D

Jules... are you stirring? :P I think Thomas (like the rest of us), knows full well he'll be flooded with cards which look identical to this soon (only he'll have to put his English hat on to read them), and what he's spent on these three packs already will be the price of a base set eventually, so thanks to Thomas for ponying up the dough so we can sneak a peek! It's like a secret shack movie preview :D

Me!! Stirring!?!  0:)
For once Roz, the answer's no!!  ::) ^-^
I know Thomas will be awash with Phoenix base sets fairly soon like the rest of us, but I'm fairly certain die-hard collectors will also want a German base set too, so if he's able to source them at a reasonable cost then I know I'd probably buy a set - dependant on cost of course.  ;)

Yeah! I quite agree. Thomas maybe you could try to get hold of a case and make us up some base sets, or find out what it might cost us :). Angie may want to collect a set too so maybe let her know if you get some idea of a price?

Okay, so i have to tell you that i bought 24 packs yesterday for 24.50 € incl. shipping, still much money, but i didn't want to wait.  ::) Okay, now i have to wait for the shipping, i hope, i'll get the packs next week. 24 packs means probably 24 foils (seems so) and 96 base cards. So i have no idea, if i'll be able to get a complete base set out of this. And i don't expect to find any base set offers on ebay Germany the next weeks (or 2-3 months), last time they were not. But the price of the packs will drop very much after some time, then will be the best moment to buy a lot of packs. We have to be patient ...

Ahhhh hahahahaha ... we know you too well Thomas!!  ;)
I know that sounded a lot for a full box but I would also hope you get one full base set and perhaps two full sets out of it.
The other thing to consider is the packs may be an indicator on card collation for the English version too - we ALL know how hit and miss this has been in past sets so I think you getting a full box is a very useful sneak peek at what we might expect when the English set is released Thomas.  ;)

Roz is right, this is one for my shopping list. Like Jules I just love the none English version of the cards. Hope you get a full base set Thomas and I will keep an eye out for any on  :ebay:. I am trying to remember where I got my POA German set from, it was such a long time ago.

The Preziosi Collection has a website with the Italian-language cards.  There's a section on the page where you can scroll through some of the base cards. :)

Well, and it Italy one pack costs 1,00 €. So why here 1,50 €.  >:()

My packs didn't arrive yet, but i know someone who bought one box here in Germany. She wasn't able to get one complete base set out of it (many doubles, so a few cards missing) and not a foil set too (one card missing).  >:()

Interesting Thomas. The Cards Inc release of PoA was equally poorly collated... do they do it on purpose?
