Ok, OK, the title sucked, but if you can think of a better one, let me know and I'll change it!

This is the result of an idea that we came up with in this thread.

Basically, people will be sending some sweet goodies native to their country to someone else around the world. Expanding our horizons through sugar - what better way? ;D Of course, this is not limited to sweets/candy/lollies - if you have anything else you'd like to include, feel free to.

Post your username and country and PM me your address details so I can organise who's sending to whom (will be good practice for Secret Santa this year ;)). I've just had a thought (delicate stage here :P) - it will mostly be US/UK/Aus trades, if anyone would like to send to 2 countries, then I can try and organise that they receive from 2 countries - how does that sound? Let me know if you'd like to send to 2 countries, otherwise I'll assume one by default.

Who will be the lucky soul to get my package which among other things, will include a MOON PIE?? ;D Totally a southern thing.  Best served with an RC cola, and DELICIOUS after a few seconds in the microwave.

I've been asked how much we should spend on this. Now this is difficult as I don't want to set limits or say how much you should spend. Obviously, it won't be very nice to send one chocolate bar and receive several items in return (and vice versa). I'll leave it up to the individual traffickers (someone think of a better name!) to decide.

Take postage into consideration, for example, when I sent some chocolate biscuits to the US, postage cost as much as the chocolate itself.

Well, I know I can get at least 5 or 6 things for about $5.  How does that amount sound?  Also, does this have to be a secret santa type thing?  I want to make sure I don't send the person something that is already available in thier country.

Yeah I think on this one we should set a budget. I had to send £20 of sweets to Canada... that's way too much although British sweets are so diverse that it wasn't that hard, but it cost a fortune in postage. I vote for £5 or so inc p&p? I daresay it will cost as much to post the stuff as the stuff costs itself (so I was working to Kelly's specs but doubling it for postage) :)

...anyway, like Jo said, it's a guide value, really if you go to the shops and think "ooh, they must try that, and that, ooh and that", then don't let it stop you being generous, but equally don't think "oh I don't want to participate in that, it's too much money", or get to the shops and think "oh no, I have no idea what to send".

Mike's idea is a good one, add in "chips" or crisps if you like too. Maybe some weird popcorn. Or if you like, some seeds or nuts... whatever you enjoy and think the recipient would enjoy.

Anyway, I'm a control freak... must ... step...  back :rofl:

You guys don't have Barbeque pototo chips, do you?  How about Cadbury chocolate cream eggs?  Easter is coming up!!

There's a fistful of other kiddie-type sweets similar to the Refreshers Bars but I can't for the life of me recall what they're called ... oh I remember ... one of them is Iron Bru ... they have sour lemony kay-li (sp?) inside them - wicked!
Thank goodness there are still the little corner shops around that sell these tooth-rotting goodies!  ::) ;D

I have no limits as to what I can eat... sugar in any shape or form is fine for whoever sends it! And I don't think we should have to keep this one secret, who knows, the receivers may want to discuss a more permanent trade deal with the senders :rofl:

I'll leave applications for this open until Monday 5th March to give enough time for all interested people to sign up, then I'll randomly allocate trade deals ;)

Admittedly I'm British, so I'm inherantly biased, and do feel free to hate me for saying this, but from my travels around the world so far... (and I hasten to add that I haven't been in the Southern Hemisphere yet :P) I'm firmly of the belief that nowhere in the world offers such a broad and tasty range of teeth-rotting, bottom enlarging, hyperactive activity inducing sweets....

...although New Zealand offers a very tasty Cadbury Kiwi treat that makes it a real contender :)

Kelly - We dont have butterfingers here in Oz but they are YUMMY! I also love those peanut butter cups...cant remember what they are called...Reece cups or something. We can get these things but you have to go to specific shops that have imported choccies, and they cost a fortune just for one!

Where I live the best sweet you can get is a Hershey Chocolate Bar (Milk Chocolate and Special Dark), but there are other delicious treats like the Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, Take Five, Kisses (with many flavors some are limited editions, too), Kissables, Kit-Kats, Almond Joy, Mounds, Twizzlers.

I live an hour away from the Hershey Chocolate Factory so we always get fresh sweets on our stores sold from there  ;D The Hershey amusement park and "Chocolate Town" has the most yummy chocolate smell. In any regards, we have other brands from the Mars company and many more :)

I'll see if I can convince Mikey (zero) to join, too. If he joins, he could send some chocolate from Japan, too ;D If he doesn't join, I'll just steel some from him :P His host-mum sends him the strangest limited edition Kit Kat flavors ;)

What about having a line or 2 under each name with what we "like" or "dislike" that way we'll have an idea of what to send and what not to? we do something like this in the other forum when we're having exchanges:

No: Crackers, peanut butter, pineapple, ...

If there's anything anyone can't eat, let me know when you send your PM with address details on it and I'll pass it on to your trade partner.

Ooooooh and the Japanese have some very nice sweets. I'm not a fan of Pokki, but their fruit chews are particularly nice, and the "hello kitty" bubblegum is nice to look at if not to eat :rofl:

In the US, the sugar-filled straws are called Pixy Stix (one of my favorites) and we also have Bubalicious Bubblegum. :)

Another favorite when I was growing up was flying saucers.  The outside was shaped like a UFO or Saturn (take your pick ;) ) and made of a substance similar in texture and taste to a communion wafer you'd find at a Catholic Mass.  Inside were tiny, round candy.  I was the only person I knew who enjoyed them. ::)

there are alot of diabetic chocolate available here in australia and i know it is safe as my mum is a diabetic so i am sure that  there has to be  some in the USA and UK  so i think  you could join in the fun  if  you want to

Oh, mine arrived yesterday Sam! Ive already eaten the fizzers (trip down memory lane; used to eat them as a kid but we dont seem to get them anymore)... havent devoured anything else yet, trying to make it last!  ;D

Ooh, well I'm back and I have a very patient sweet trading partner :D I've done my first shop (some basics at Sainsburys and I'm going to go to a special sweetshop (it's like the ones in Roald Dahl's books) to pick up some extras over the weekend.

Not to worry, Sharon!  I got your package today!!!  ;D  Let's see, when Phil came in with the box, he asked me what it was.  As soon as I said "probably candy from Sharon", I was swarmed by my entire family!  :rofl:  The kids took the chocolate on the sticks.  Bunnies I think they were?  They ran off with them so fast I'm not sure.  :rofl:  And they've been playing with the red noses all day.  Too funny!  I should take a picture.  I LOVE the penguin bars!!!  I gave my kids a bite, but they didn't like them.  MORE FOR ME!!  ;D  Phil has been helping me eat the truffles.  He is totally into the chocolate/chocolate ones, I like them all.  I also got Sherbert Lemons, a favorite of Dumbledore himself!  I was suprised when I got to the center.  Now I know where the "sherbert" part comes from.  They're VERY good.  The pear candy is also really tasty, they should last me for quite a while.  The rhubarb custard might take me a while to aquire a taste for, but I've not counted them out yet.  ;)  Thanks so much, Sharon!!  I probably have left out something, but believe me, we loved it all!  ;D ;D
Your package is winging its way to you and should be there in a few days I hope.  I tried to pick candy and chocolate that's distinctly American.  Read the lables on some of them to see where from.  If you put the Moon Pie in the microwave, only cook for about 5-8 seconds, or you'll have to eat it with a fork.  I also added 2 non-candy items.  I thought about adding pork rinds too late, I had already taped the box shut.  Lucky for you!!  :rofl:

Hooray, they got past customs  ;D ;D.  The rules at this end for sending stuff to the US were scary - as you may have noticed by the scribbled message on the box I was not allowed to put in a letter!

I had forgotten about DD and the sherbet lemons but now you can suck on one whilst reading the book.  Rhubarb and custard are as British as tea and crumpets but as you say an acquired taste (one that I haven't actually acquired  ;) ).

I must apologise to my partner as well... I'll be sending your package off tomorrow! I was waiting for a delivery of a certain type of Tim Tam which I hope they will enjoy :)

I believe the raspberry squares were ghirardelli, and they are soooooo yummy :)    Can't remember where I got them, but if you don't have them on your side of the 50, I can send you some :)

The Idaho Spud was lovely... when I first picked up the packet I thought it had melted as it was so soft :o but it's just the marshmallowyness (is that even a word?) of it.

I hope you enjoy the stuff I sent you, although I'm sorry I couldn't include anything exciting in terms of raspberries... we don't have anything of that sort apart from the erm... raspberry lollies I sent you. I hope there's enough caramel in there to keep you happy though! Also, I've also thought of more stuff that I could have sent - we'll just have to do another round after this ;D

The Yorkie Bar thing originated as been a manly chocky bar LOL was 1st advertised using a trucker and has evolved since then into the 'No Girls' bit now  ;D  I am putting on weight just reading what you guy;s are eating LOL

Thank you so much Kelly, everything arrived safe and sound about an hour ago.  I can honestly say that none of the wrappers look familiar but everything looks delicious  :P

There is one bar (can't remember which one) but the description..... mmmmmm no one else is getting a taste of that.  It was something about fluffy chocolatiness  :P :P :P.  I may get Dad to try the Slim Jim first though - can you give me a hint as to what it actually is  ;)

Oh BTW I forgot to tell you that the stripey sweets I sent you were Humbugs - very Dickensian  ;D

Oh yes, the humbugs were delish!  I was expecting them to be chocolate and coffee, which I'm not too fond of.  Then I tasted chocolate and MINT-YAY!! 
I think the candy bar your talking about is a 3 muskateers bar.  My kids favorite.  The Slim Jim is sort of a softer type of beef jerky.  Sorry, I don't quite know how to describe jerky.  It's some type of smoked meat.  :P
The catch phrase on the commercials is: SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!!!

That was it, 3 Musketeers  :P :-*.  Oooo beef jerky, just like the cowboys ate.  I will definitely be giving that a go  ;D ;D

Yep, that's PR. Technically we're part of the US but not really a state (something like Hawaii or Alaska before they became states). And we're in the Caribbean so we get sweets from all over Latinamerica, Spain, and Mexico. Some of those were from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, US, etc.


I thought the Tronky was sold in the states, it's made by Ferrero too. It has to be one of the best choc.bars by them too! real good stuff, quite addictive ::), i have yet to meet someone who doesn't like them. They look like a tree trunk but filled with creamy ferrero chocolate:

Mmmmmmmmm Guylian...veeeeeeeeery nice, in fact, one of my favourites.. AND they support project seahorse to boot! So you can be totally guilt free in eating those (well... almost totally guilt free) :D

Hi Jackie - thank you so much for my parcel that arrived yesterday, I love the chocolate covered peanut butter eggs. I have only tried them so far as I want to make everything last. I haven't opened the box of chocolates yet as once I do they will be gone. I just can't stop at one.

I totally spaced thanking my 2 traders...one from the UK and one from Australia. Thanks for the goodies!!! I loved them all, but I think my favorite thing was the Tim Tam's..I am now hooked on them, and have been having fits now that I ran out :)  Thanks again!!!!

Glad to hear you liked everything Zach! I don't think I have met anyone yet who doesn't like Tim Tams - and with good reason! I think I sent you the caramel ones and the raspberry ones... I'm currently obsessed with the latter ones ;)

I hope my trading partner has received my parcel, I sent it a couple of weeks ago via airmail, it should be there now. I hate Australia Post, it cost me an arm and a leg to send, they are  :-X
