I'm sitting here eating my Bournville just wondering what everyone elses favourites

Lets talk chocy and biccys  ;D

How come there are Crisps in the US that look like walkers but are called something else, are they related, and have they messed up the colour code too,  ::) green is cheese and onion and Blue is salt and vinage so let it be know.

Are they called Lays? They also call them that on 'The Continent'.

Over in the Netherlands the green ones are Bolognaise flavour, so when a dutch guy came over here, bought some green ones and got the vinegar taste he was NOT impressed... I laughed so much because it's my favourite flavour (and promptly stole the pack).

Favourite Choc: Alpini by Thorntons... alas they are dreadfully calorific :(

Favourite Biccy: KitKat :D

Oh tell me more, not sure I have heard of that one. Last time I went into Thorntons they had some cake bars that were only like 39p for the pack because they were going out of date, see I had to help them out ;)

Have you seen the toblarone advert that works so well I really wany a toblarone when I see it :P

hee hee Walkers is a brand name of potato chips (as you call 'em Jackie) in the UK.
Lays ... I remember there were fab LOTR collectibles in their crisps/chips a few years ago and they were Polish too ... never seen any to try though ...

Mind you, crackers in the UK are something different again! HaHaHa!!

Tim Tams are very similar to Penguin bars - they are milk or plain chocolate covered choccie-flavoured buicuits that are sandwiched together with either choccie-flavoured or different flavoured fillings. VERY yummy!!
Thorntons chocs .... hee hee they're made about 10 miles away from where I live ... you think their chocs are good, try their ice creams in the summer ... mmmmm

I like Lays or Ruffles brand potatochips.  Ruffles have ridges, Lays don't.  Sorry Jackie, but I can't stand Pringles!  :rofl:  They press those out all the same shape so that they stack and put them in a tube! 
My favorite flavor of chip is plain salt, but barbeque is really good too.  They come in a red bag.

Kit-Kats are one of my favorite chocolate bars.  Although can you really call them a chocolate bar?  Maybe chocolate bar-ettes?
Godiva is soooo gooood!  Phil buys me a box of chocolate-raspberry cordials every Christmas.

We have lays crips here too, but i think we've gone back to calling them "thins".


I think Americans tend to call biscuits "cookies"; the only time I use that word is in reference to choc chip cookies...cos choc chip biscuits doesnt sound right  ;D

I was sent a pack of Penguins, and a few of my friends did the taste test...and we decided that nothing beats Tim Tams....Jackie, want me to send you some Tim Tams?

I'm really sorry in advance for this Jackie... but this secret language we are speaking really is English... honest, you just changed the meanings of everything... chips to us mean fries :rofl: chips to you mean crisps to me... sweets to me mean candy to you.. Oh that enough of all that I'm off to bed :P

I prefer Crisps/Lays to Pringles (what a relief, that brand is the same here :rofl:) since it's not all been mashed up, but I have a weakness for all crisps/chips so anything will do :rofl:

A biscuit is a bit like a cookie really, but often come in packets. Crackers to us are the things you put cheese on as the final course of a meal. I didn't realise that the Americans called sweet biscuits crackers Jules, I'm still learning the language that the Americans speak.

Yes yes... we could so do that. Mark entered into a 'sweet' (candy) exchange with some pals in Canada... they sent some really hideous 'sweets' :rofl:, but they enjoyed ours which was good :)

Talking of Polish food Jules, I HATE cup-a-soup or anything else that 'poses' as soup when it's really just horrible, but I really recommend an instant soup that the Polish have, their instant beetroot soup is delicious. I'll get the name of it :) It's perfect for picnics/long days in the office etc.

Do they do individually packed tim tams for taking out to lunches? Of course you can always use cling film :)

ah, ok. I think for a while you could buy tim tam "bars"; slightly bigger and packaged separately, but not sure they are around any more. As far as i know, they only come in the normal packs. The strange too is that there are 11 in a pack...Ive heard a theory that this is so that there is "one left for mum once the family have eaten the other ten"  :rofl:

In terms of the chips/crisps debate...we use chips to refer to potato chips (thins etc) and hot chips....confused yet?

... and yet more evidence that Australian politicians want women to have big families... :rofl:  (what was it - one baby for him, one baby for her, and one for Australia? :P)

A while ago you could also buy them in 'share packs' like freddo's or kit kats where they have a big bag with like 16 individually wrapped chocolates...in this case tim-tams. But I dont know if they do that anymore, havent seen them for a while. They were good though to take with you for a little snack!

That's a lot of fun!! We do that every year at this Japanese forum. We just decide on the size of the box we'll send, fill it with candy/sweets and ship it to someone >:D. And that would be great here since we're all scattered around the world.

Ah Polish food, you need Perogi not sure I have spelt that right, they are lovely a bit like ravioli but the best are with cheese and potatoe. All these Poles coming here I'm hoping the shops will cotton on. Borsch (sp) is the general turn for Beetroot soup which is is very nice. We have both on these on Christmas eve because my grandfather is Polish :)

Polish food is my favorite!  I'm half Polish, so that may have something to do with it. :)  Pierogis are the best, but I also love golumpkis (stuffed cabbage, hold the tomato sauce, please), kielbasa (sausage), kapusta (cabbage dish with kielbasa, bacon, and onions), and nalesniki (cheese blintzes).  My grandmother passed away many, many years ago, but my dad is able to duplicate some of the dishes. :)

Moon pies are awesome, too. :)  I didn't know about putting them in the microwave.  I'll have to try that the next time we buy some.

Golumkis is nice too, without the sauce. Can you get Piegrogis readily in the US? They did have them in the first Men in Black the little aliens were about to eat them when they were attacked. Oh and don't forget kabnos (sp?) (sausage)

There is a brand of frozen pierogies called Mrs. T's that's available across the US.  They're okay.  I can't make them very well, so when I really want good ones, I buy them online from www.pierogiesplus.com.  If you click on the button to enter the site, you'll see a picture of the babcie (grandmothers) who make the food. :)  They also make an excellent dish called haluski that's made with noodles and cabbage.  It's delicious.  Come to think about it, it's about time for an order! :D

I'm not sure what kabnos is.  The only Polish sausage I ate growing up was kielbasa.

Do you think they would delivery to the UK ;) Mum was looking online the other day, there are lots of Polish people moving to Britian but they don't seem to be encouraging the pierogies yet :(

Your best bet might be to find any enclaves where the immigrants are residing and then visit to see if there are any shops.  Years ago, I read a story about such an enclave near Boston, but I lost the article and now can't find the shops mentioned in the article. :-\

Well there is a shop up London that my Grandfather has ordered from, we went there once but it was awful I get to. What we want is pierogies in Sainsburys and co ;)

Well I just received a fairly large box from Australia!!! Man!!! It was loaded with lots of goodies!!! I can now officially say that I have had Tim Tams!  ;D YAY!!!
In my box, were...

and also included was a bag of Cadbury 3 in 1 chocolates!!!

I have to slow down, my tasting sessions need to be spaced apart due to

Tim Tams are a good fule sorce for sketching, and its crazy they are like penguins. but i think tim tams are better as i could eat one after anothe but with penguins thety get a bit sickly after the third one

cherry ripe, (smaller version of a fruity bounty chocolate bar) quite nice
Caramello koala, (the caramel got my chin :P)
Strawberry freddo (WHY dont the UK have these?!?!)

thank you so much marcia it was great fun recieving the package, and trying new things;D ;D yours is winging its way to you, i chose some authentic british pick and mix penny sweets, and some old shcool chocolate that i grew up eating, and things that will be exciting to try if you cant get them in Australia, or pretty boring stuff if you can :-\

tim tams are really  :) i got dibs on some of mikes sweets hehhee i agree the tim tams are well better then penguins, apart from the tacky jokes one them theyre really dull it was cool seeing all the different packaging as well! how sad do i sound lol

I sent my package out today! hope nothing melts lol i think we should make this a yearly or a more often event - I've had fun picking out sweets to go in my box  ;D
