I like XBrick the best and second for me would be PS2 and gamecube in last

Well I only have had a PS, N64, and a PS2 so my vote goes to the PS2 for the variety of games available.  The X-Brick does have nice graphics but I could not justify buying it when I have a PS2 that has served me so well and given me untold hours of gaming fun.   :)

Well I am a Gamecube girl myself... the PS2 only ever gets switched on to play multi region DVDs to be honest...

Gee I can see that Roz!!   ;)  The only games I ever owned for the N64 was a James Bond game that was outstanding, and a few other first person shooters - Doom & Quake come to mind.  I was not into role playing games at the time.  

Only ever owned an X box, so I'm kinda biased ;) but from what I have played of the PS2 and GC, I still prefer it - better graphics and sound :)

and it has so much memory and a hardrive

I remember when the X-Brick was first being talked about.  It was to be a platform where you could play PC games on your TV!  Something happened along the way in development and this did not happen crushing my hopes and desires because I was fed up having to constantly upgrade my computer to play games.

This is why I went the console route first with the Playstation, then the N64, and finally the PS2.  Unfortunately they have not been making the kind of games I enjoy for these systems and I have gone back to purchasing the most current Dell PC for gaming as I enjoy realistic flight simulations, military war games, and strategy games.  My last purchase for the PS2 was The Return of the King and Medal of Honor Rising Sun.  

I enjoyed the fact that I did not have to purchase a DVD player because the PS2 gave you that capability to watch movies.   :)  That is what I have been using it now for.    

I guess PS2 is good for that but it needs annoying Memory cards and you have to buy more of them because of  the amount of saved games you have

Yea you are correct there, I do have a bunch of memory cards and it would have been nice to have a hard drive instead!

But hard drives fail - So do memory cards but if a memory card fails it's a lot easier to replace and you lose a lot less data than when a hard drive fails...

yeah, a whole hardrive being wiped would be devastating but if you just buy one XBrick memory card for backup it would be alot safer

I have to say Gamecube just because my kids get such a kick out of Mario .   ;D Plus I love the Zelda games. I have always liked Nintendo more for some reason I just dont know why.

there's a new zelda coming soon and from the preview vid he seems like a short legolas, he even fights a beast of shadow and flame... balrog anyone?

I really liked the Mario game for the N64 and for some reason my favorite Zelda game has to be the second one they ever made for the first Nintendo.

I have not yet Played the Four Swords game for the Gamecube. I still haven't beat the Wind Walker one that they came out with. My kids don't often let me play games in the living room on thier TV. Well they do its just really hard to see the TV at times so I gave up playing for now. We will be getting another TV soon that way we can play games on one so they can watch TV on the other.  Plus most of the new games make me sick when I play.

Welcome Nicole!  We can't have any sick gameplayers!   ;)  You must be one of the people who get motion sickness from the games.  Have you spoken to your Doctor about this?  I am sure there is a work around so you can play games.

Yes I get the motion sickness really bad on some of these newer better graphic games out there. I have not talked to a doctor about it but when I used to play a lot of Nintendo (before I was married and had kids) I used to take some of those motion sickness pills you can buy at the drugstore. They seemed to work. I guess I dont play enough to make it worth buying anything to help the motion sickness. Most of the games I really like don't make me sick or if they do it takes a while and then I just take a brake and play again later.

Yea that's the key - taking breaks!  How many of us have played for so many hours that you lost track of time?  When you finally realized what time it is and how long you have been playing your hand or hands start to freeze up on you not to mention other parts of the body!   :P

And your eyes go woozy and you sway as you stand up, your legs, weakened by the lack of activity/blood flow develop pins and needles... causing you to unbalance and fall spectacularly onto the adjacent bean bag?

Noooo! That's the worst thing! Consoles are so big and bulky (especially the XBrick) and so the only option is to get a GBA! IT fits right in your pocket :) Studies? Who cares! The main thing is that you can play Mario whilst pretending to take an exam :D

Well I'm a PS2 girl although I did have t o be dragged into the 21st century and was forced to buy one for the latest Harry Potter game which didn't come in psone. It was the first thing I bought with my money from my Christmas job and I certainly haven't regretted it, I haven't used my other DVD player since. I have always been a Sony girl I have the master system centuries ago then the Psone and now the PS2 ;D

Ok well i've always been a loyal nintendo supporter so I'll have to say GC...BUT let it be known that I think the SNES was the best console ever invented.  ;D Zelda: A link to the past, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country series, Killer Instinct the list goes on. I grew up with that console and thats probably why I love it so. But the N64 is also great. Came out when I was in Year 4. Some of the best games are Zelda: ooT, Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Mario and F-Zero X.
I did own a GC but sold it because I wasnt too happy with it. Mind you Zelda Wind Waker was damn near brilliant and I spent months finding everything, as you cant play Zelda without getting all the extras.  ;)
Suffice to say, Zelda IMO is the best game series ever invented. Im a huge fan and yes I even have a life size standee of link from OoT in my room I got from a local videogame store.  ;D
So in conclusion getting back on track to consoles, people care too much about whether a game has good graphics and dont care if its got good gameplay. 99% of games now days are just ports from movies, and if not that its something lame like Jak and Daxter 7 or something. Yep you can keep your fancy consoles I only need my SNES and N64 to be happy. But hey it might all change when the new Zelda is out.  ;)

LOL blame me I just found it as I hadn't been here then (it feels like it though, feels like I have known the shame all my life ;) )

I like all three - if you can afford, they all have something to offer that the others can't.  I used to be biased in the Megadrive days - nothing would sway me to Nintendo and then I played F-Zero.  Complete change of opinion and I started to view Megadrive games as being shallow by comparison.  Trouble is, I'm not really playing games that much these days.  Maybe it's an age thing but when you've been into games as long as I have (I got my first machine aged 9 or 10, a Grandstand Colour TV game.  The very first home machine with colour graphics and it played tennis and squash.  I can still remember what it looked like) it tends to be a case of seen it all before.  I'm sure I'll buy PS3, XB360 and Revolution but it worries me that all they seem to be offering right now is "sequel-itis" - I wasn't overly fond of Project Gotham 2 so I can't see that PG3 is going to be all that thrilling.  There's very little in the way of gaming these days that really innovates, grabs your attention and won't let go.

I know what you mean - Sonic 2 was certainly the definitive game of my childhood - all hail the megadrive.

It's funny you should mention F-Zero - I dug it out for the first time since release (US release that is) for the GameCube... that really is one awesome game :)

Well it was quite revolutionary in the SNES days.  Mode 7 was a great graphics engine because everything had been sprite scaled upto that point.  Sega were famous for it (Afterburner, Outrun, Power Drift, Hang On) but it was always hard to replicate on the home machines due to lack of power.  In fact the only machine they managed to convert Power Drift to was the lowly PC Engine - it was such a complex game that even the Megadrive couldn't handle it.  The PC Engine version looks great on the hand held GT!

I did get a special Sega book from Japan that contained a CD with Dreamcast versions of those classic titles and I think it's the only other machine that has a version of Power Drift.  That was (and still is) one of my all time favourite arcade games, especially the hydraulic version.  I seem to remember that maybe the FM Towns Marty (very obscure Japanese PC style console) had Power Drift as well but I could be wrong.

There was an N64 version of F-Zero.  In fact, they released a second version to coincide with the 64DD disk drive.  It had a track editor so you could create your own courses and save them to disk.  Another piece of useless info courtesy of Geek Boy  ;D

I didn't ever play SNES F-Zero - (well you might count the re-release of it on the GBA but you might not ;)) - we bought a second hand N64 and it came with it - excellent stuff... but I think we need a better TV to play F-Zero for 4! The screens really are pretty small.

No!  It wasn't released outside Japan but they do turn up on ebay every now and again.  I think there's a horse racing game called Derby Stallion for the 64DD but I don't know what it involves.  One of the very few titles specifically for that add on.  Mario Paint was another one.

That's set me thinking now, maybe I might add one to my collection ;)

Don't forget Zelda: The Ocarina of Time - Master Quest! That's gotta be the main reason to buy a 64DD

Although that's available on a GC disc now and with all the previous Nintendo games being playable on the Revolution, the question is do we need another console at all? Apart from posterity that is?

To preserve everything that used to be good in video games.  Posterity in other words.  I have a largish collection of classic systems (most purchased second hand) and games to go with them.  I don't have a 64DD though but it's an oddity and worth having for that reason alone.  I guess if you're a completist then you'd want one.  A unit in good condition would set you back £250 boxed.  And it's amazing how many classic systems can be picked up brand new and never opened.  I got a Virtual Boy like that and I played it more than some of the newer systems when it arrived.  I'm still trying to get Space Invaders but that's a £200+ title alone.  Gundam Dimension War and Virtual Bowling are like £800+ titles!

If you had an Atari 2600 (the original with the wood veneer), would you throw it away?  Personally I'd keep it, it reminds me of my childhood and the thrill of getting a new game.  There aren't that many thrills in games nowadays.  I remember getting Outlaw for the 2600, a very simple cowboy shooting game but boy did we put in some hours on that one!  I think it also serves as a reminder of how far games have come in nearly 30 years.  It's a heritage thing.  And no matter how many games get converted to the PS2 or "updated", it's never the same as playing the original.  Radiant Silvergun on the PS2 wouldn't play the same as the original Saturn title because the controllers are different for a start and although you may be able to replicate the graphics, you can't replicate the "feel".

So classic systems have their place and it's fun to dig them out every once in a while.  PS2 and XBrick will be classic in a few years don't forget....

I have a problem with classics - well I suppose the problem is really with the moderns. I don't have enough time to play them! There are too many modern games coming out that I want to play, and I don't have enough time to play all of them let alone go back and play all the old ones I loved in the past... it's sad but true.

I'm not too familiar with the games, but I think it might be the first one.  The subtitle says "Stealth action redefined".  I'm going to end up taking back the Bass Fishing game.  I thought it would be easy to find one of those fishing pole controllers, but apparently they don't make them anymore for the PS2.   :'(
