We'll be getting there Wednesday the 25th in the afternoon and will be at the convention every day..we even decided to stay and do Sunday even though it is usually a bit lame.

All the shackers need to meet up for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner one night.
Or we should make some sort of Pin or sticker to wear...that way you could be walking around and bump into a fellow shacker you have never met.

50 days and counting!!!

I just did what i've done for the past two years at the 50 day mark. Dig out my ole backpack, clean it out, and then get all my extra sketches/autos/costumes into a binder in a nice neat order and put the binder into the backpack.

Gosh golly gee I wish it was July 25th.

Ok who is going and who wants to meet up for breakfast at my hotel (it is right across from the convention center, about a 60 second walk.)

There is a good breakfast buffet place downstairs at the Hilton Gaslamp District. The buffet has lots of breads, fruits, breakfast meats, and pancakes or waffles. There is also a full menu if stuffing your face full of food isn't your thing. Once I get an idea if anyone is interested we can figure out the best day and a good time for everyone. The Hilton is also where a lot of celebs stay so we might just catch a couple at breakfast. Last year I saw Daniel Dae Kim and Jorge Garcia (Jin and Hurley from Lost) as well as Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes) downstairs before they left for the convention. They were all VERY cool about photos and Jorge spoke to me for like 5 minutes about Lost. Was really cool.

If anyone is interested, I will pick up the tab for the breakfast. Just need to know in advance how many to expect  :)

Count me in!  I wasn't sure before since I had to work out my schedule, but I'll be there all 4 days.  I'll be taking the train down Thursday so that's a bad morning for me.  Saturday sounds better.

Julie and I are for sure going we made our reservations and everything. My fingers are crossed but I think our room is going to have either a jacuzzi in it or at least a bath tub with jets in it. After spending the day on our feet that will be sooooo nice. ;D

Please let me know if I missed you so I can make preperations for everyone. The convention opens at 10am and the walk to the convention center is less than 5 minutes from the hotel. Starting at 8:15 will give everyone plenty of time to sit down and relax and enjoy breakfast and still have plenty of time to get to the convention center and get a good spot in the entrance line. If these plans don't work for anyone who I have listed just let me know. I have not had any Artists respond and they are of course welcome as well, just respond in this thread or pm me.

silent auctions are where everyone who bids writes down the highest price they are willing to pay on a slip.  This gets handed to the auctionier and whoever has bid the highest wins.

the idea is that no one knows what price anyone else has bid.

they auction off complete harry potter master sets. Last year, I was second high bidder on every single get. one woman obivously with a lot of money outbid me at the last minute EVERY single night. It was so frustrating since I actually needed one of the sets being auctioned every day and she was obviously buying them to resell, who the heck needs 4 master sets from the same release.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I am really wishing that i was going this year but hopefully next year i will be there. The trouble with show exclusives is that we will all be on ebay trying to get one to complete our collection I just hope there are none as limited as the MM Trophy card from last year as I was never going to get one of those

Well I cant wait for it amongst collecting potter cards my brother is aiming at getting a full master set of supernatural. We would take up the offer of the yakshack breakfast but by Saturday we will be on our way to the lovely island of Aruba after enjoying preview night and thursday and friday.

Does anyone know how many goodie bags artbox has for any given day and is there a 1 or 2 bag limit?  The goodie bag line is going to interfere with Bionic Woman panel at 10:00.

two years ago, they were limited to 50, 1 per person, and there was a line and they sold out.
last year, they said they had 100, but I went multiple times during the day and picked one or two up...my advice would be to go there first thing on preview night (I imagine they will have some for sale then) and ask them about them this year because who knows, maybe they went back to less and decided not to make as much money lol.

They're called "goody totes" this year, although I think that should be spelled "goodie." :)

They had like 250+ mystery boxes last year. I managed to buy like 5 of them. The limited to 100 things you guys are talking about, are they the same or something completely different that I missed out on?

I think everyone is talking about the mystery boxes, but Artbox did have other limited items.  There was the tie set from all four houses, which I think was limited to 100 made.  There was also the trophy card, and maybe some others, but I just can't seem to remember.  I am sure someone else will.

nope RNS, you were right, for Potter last year there were $75 mystery boxes, the 4 card set, and the trophy card. There were other exclusives though from other Artbox sets.

I was TOLD last year that they were limited to 100 mystery boxes but I honestly think they had MANY more each day.

and Kelly, yeah, I got an iPhone...I buy whatever Steve Jobs tells me to  ;D I have been an Apple loyalist since I was 12 and have converted a good 20 people to Apple.

Oh, I see what you are talking about. No, they had 100 per day. There were 500 boxes in total. I remember being told that there were 500 boxes for the entire con. There were indeed 100 Tie Sets (which didnt really have a purchase limit, more like one per visit).

Can I third that?! Id love a mystery/goodie box, but the US is a bit far for me to just "duck in"  :P

My certificate says 200.  And there were 31 trophy cards.

in regards to the breakfast saturday morning, finding my hotel is VERY easy as it is right across the street from the convention center, so if you take a taxi, bus, of streetcar there, all you have to do is look across the street from the center of the convention center, and there is the hotel. It is the Hilton Gaslamp district. if you would like exact directions just pm me and I will give them to you, but I promise you, if you can find the convention center, you can find my hotel for the breakfast.


I cannot wait for this, there are so many good panals I am looking forward to, I am going to have such little time on the floor this year and it sucks. there is just to much to see.

Could someone ask Artbox if they could please please PLEASE start returning voided redemption cards along with the autographs? The Inkworks policy of punching a hole in the redemption seems to work well.  I hate the idea of not getting the redemption back which is their current policy...

Well, I've found the convention centre and Horton Plaza (where I am at the moment) and a couple of pubs  ;D The weather is sunny and HOT. I've only been mistaken for an Australian 3 time so far  ::)

OK this is just plain scary.  How comes Boggy has read this thread whilst he is 30 thousand miles away before me  :o.  OK I have no idea how far away the US is but I know it is a long way!  Oh yes now I remember.  I couldn't log on before because I spent four hours ironing every piece of clothing Boggy owns which had mysteriously found it's way into the washing pile before he left  ::)

Thanks!  You did a great job last year. :)  The photos you took were very helpful for both the MM and COS sets.  I'm hoping there will be OOTP costumes and props on display that will be used in the update set.

Phew!!!

Well, woke up at 5:30am (EST) and got to San Diego at 1:00 (PST) long plane ride. Got to the hotel and had to wait two hours to get into a room but they finally got us into something, and upgraded our room too! Two hours from now my little brother and I are heading over to the convention center to pick up our passes and attend preview night. I will do my best to take a TON of photos and hopefully upload them every night. I created a Flickr account and got a little card to transfer the photos to my computer so hopefully everything works out well.

I had the most amazing luck tonight. I pulled a GOF Dan Radcliffe Auto in my first mystery bag. I also got 3 hobby OOTP boxes in my two mystery bags I bought, out of those three boxes, I pulled the Hermione Sweater, Weasley floral shirt, and a Rupert Grint auto redemption. Needless to say, it was a pretty amazing night.

So, does that mean that the Mystery Boxes (totes) this year have HOBBY boxes rather than RETAIL boxes? How much were they this year?

I'm really tired, so this may be incomplete, but here is a list of every little thing that I found out tonight during my short visit to the Artbox Booth:

There a few exclusives for this year. Only one, though, is on sale at the moment as they are waiting for the others to arrive or be aproved. The current set is a jumbo set of Death Eater costumes, all three from the OOTP series, but a little bigger. They come in a nice black box that is numbered and are limited to 100. 20 are sold a day. They cost $200. Also on their reciepts, they have listed another few exclusives. I was told by one of the representatives there, whom, from last Comic Con, I have become pretty friendly with, that there was a prop set just like the Death Eater set that they are waiting on. He said thats all he could tell me, but I will try to get more out of him tomorrow. So Im assuming its another 3-card set, but just a set of props instead. There are also another 2 exclusives, that, as I was told, were either going to be sold at Comic-Con or online, that, to me, seem kind of cool. Very different, actually. The first is a a "HP crystal set" which is supposed to be a set of either costumes or props that are etched is crystal or something to that affect. His wording was confusing and I could tell he wasnt sure if he was willing to give out much info on them. The other set was what was labeled "HP plate set". This, I was told, just as ambiguously, was a costume or prop set that was actually inserted into plated metal. I have no idea what this is going to look like, but he assured me it was very cool. Hmm. Actually, Im not sure if the last two exclusives I mentioned even had props or costumes, I think that may just be wishful thinking on my part.

Strangely, there were no Harry Potter costumes or props on display, just a whole bunch of 24 things. I am a little upset. I hope they find a way to display them.

Alright, Im tired, so this is where I leave. I will stop by tomorrow night and give you another look into my purchases and maybe have some more info. I still need to ask whether or not Artbox can start sending redemptions back.

Wow! Congrats! That is an amazing set of cards you found tonight! I didnt get anything good. My one tote proved to be uninspired. Everything inside was probably worth just as much as the tote, really. Nothing special. My OOTP hobby boxed yielded a CFC8 Film Card and G15 Gryffindor Robes, like I said, nothing special. But I wont let it get me down, Im sure Ill find something good when I buy more tomorrow.

Thanks for the reports!  In a way, I'm not surprised that Artbox didn't have any HP stuff on display.  At the spring Philly Show, they had very little and wouldn't allow anyone to take pictures.  Maybe Warner Bros. told them they couldn't display items, because there was no way to prevent pictures at SDCC. :-\

For $75, I think you received a lot!  The hobby box and two binders alone are worth the cost. :)  I can't believe that they didn't have all of the show exclusives ready -- it isn't as if they didn't know the date by which everything had to be approved and manufactured.  I'm not interested in more Death Eater costumes, but the other items sound interesting.  I wouldn't mind if we could buy things from the Artbox website, but since there's no info on the site about COS, 3D, or OOTP, I'm not sure they're ready for an online store.

Did they say anything about upcoming sets?

I am really hoping they have more exclusives, I thought I read somewhere they were doing something with the death eater masks for the con, so I would imagine those would be the props if they show up.

Last night was so much fun (other than loosing my 14 year old brother for 30 minutes and almost having a panic attack) i had the most amazing pulls of my life and the last 30 minutes of preview night was spent completing a HUGE trade that included me getting both of the Dual Auto Battlestar 6-case incentives and two of the Complete Bond Casino Chip prop cards. I was able to run into Kelly and Graham and I hope if they read this I did not come off as a jerk lol, I was a little short with both of you, but by the time I saw you my little brother was supposed to be back at the Artbox booth and he wasn't so I was freaking out a little and it was right after I met you that I could not find him for 30 minutes (he was of course, getting sketches in artist alley) so I apoligize if I seemed short with you. I hope you guys had great pulls in the mystery bags and I am sure I will see you again before Saturday, more than likely at the Artbox booth

It is AMAZING!!! I'm in geek heaven. The tote bags were a varied lot. I joked with Kelly that I would get a Warwick Davis. This was just after Bryan had showed me his Daniel Radcliffe. Hey presto, Warwick appeared in my bag  ::) Luckily, a lady in front of me had bought 2 identical bags so she swapped  ;D
Sharon's picture of me worked, as Bryan, Kelly and Jon all recognised me. You have got to realise that I can't say much Potter related as Sharon will be reading. Suffice to say, she'll be pleased when I get home.

Some updates. I asked about the redemption cards and I was told that they would probably never have a system where you get it back. They keep the cards for their records, so they just cant give them back.

First thing in the morning I was confronted by Bryan. Nice firm handshake did the trick and he was off to the end of the Artbox line. He was talking with Graham during most of the que and all I could manage from my position was a brief "hello, thank you, nice to see you" sort of ordeal. Im really glad you all recognize me. Its the shoes, isnt it?

I met Kelly today. Extremely nice person. She even entrusted me to do a favor for her tomorrow! Im honored! I hung out with her for a bit, as our collecting interests intertwined at the monstrosity that was the Hasbro booth. Mobs, Im telling you, and Im sure Kelly is telling you, were everywhere, all in the name of the precious tickets that secured your spot in the next days line. My goodness, people were throwing their children out to the front just to get a ticket, it was rediculous. Unfortunately, Kelly and I failed to snag one, but I am going to try again tomorrow for the both of us. And, like yesterday, I hung out with Graham for a bit at the Artbox booth, Sincerely, you lot are all very friendly and kind people. Its really nice.

The mystery tote bags were a mixed bunch. Some had a Hobby and a Retail box and some had two Hobby boxes. Luck of the draw  ::) No sell sheets at the stand  :( The 3 card special will have to stay that unless I injure someone  ;D One lady that was queuing up said last year she got two trophy cards (as a dealer) so this year she's got her friend to queue up as well so she will end up with at least 4 limited boxes  >:(

Someone at Artbox had once mentioned that they might change the way the show exclusives were distributed to give everyone a chance to get one.  I think it was supposed to be some sort of daily lottery.  Looks like they backed down from that, which really isn't fair. >:(

They aren't silent, everyone stands around and writes down their bid, it is basicly a live auction.
Today was OOTP master set, not sure how much it went for, tomorrow is something special that they will not talk about, I have a feeling it is possibly every potter set so far.

I got the Chamber set for $1700 which might be a BIT high (although I think they sell for around $1900 on ebay) but you should see some of the variants. beautiful

WOW. That was quite the adventure. I finally got my Death Eater set, and so did my brother. I managed to pull some good cards, too. Once Im done putting everything away, listing what needs to be listed, scan, photograph, and getting completely settled, Ill give a breakdown of my pulls and the fun I had at the Con. So Ill post later tonight, or perhaps sometime tomorrow. I hope everyone who went had a blast!

I will also write a big report about all the cards pulled, celebrities seen, and people met.

Does anyone know how many goodie totes they sold per day (approximately)?  I know the 3D OOTP binder was supposed to be in 100 per day, but then I read elsewhere that they only gave out 50 goodie totes per day. Is this true? If so, every tote woul dof had the 3D binder, right?  I am so confused.  All I know is that I would have loved to have gotten my hands on one.  Wish I could have been there.

There were supposed to be 100 tote bags given out a day, with a total of 500 for the entire Con. I know in the mornings they sold out of the 100 totes in the first twenty minutes, but they somehow managed to sell a few more mid day. My only guess is that they sold exactly 100 bags a day, even though they had "sold out" in the mornings. I figure this because there was a 2 bag limited per person, per day. So, in the mornings, they assumed everyone was buying two bags and they capped the line to 50 people. I, some days, only bought one bag, as Im sure others did as well. So, if they didnt sell any bags to those not in line, they should then have some left over for the afternoons. If that was indeed the case, then there were only 100 bags a day and 500 for the entire Con. Hope that all makes sense.

Gentle Giant had a Glorfindel bust for one of their exclusives. It was limited to 500 and practically impossible to get a hold of. Sideshow didnt have one this year. Im not sure if any other companies had LOTR exclusives.

I'm BACK!!!  And I'm totally exhausted!  One kid is in bed, so I had a chance to open my OoTP hobby box, but nothing really great to report on that.  I got a film card and a Griffindor robe.  I guess now I'll have to get the Slytherin and Ravenclaw to match!  I pulled a George quidditch robe from my tin, so that was kind of cool.  My other cards were Gryffindor students from SS, Lilly Potter auto, and a brow Krum costume.  All are up for trade.  ;)  I honestly don't know how you guys carried around 2 of those bags at a time, I nearly pulled my back out!

So-It was GREAT meeting everyone!  Thanks for breakfast, Bryan, that was cool to have everyone together.  ;D  Graham is the nicest guy, Sharon.  You're lucky to be his sister.  He not only let me borrow his camera while he was in the Heroes panel, but he also got me a bathroom pass on the way out so I could get back in for Battlestar Galactica.  8)  No waiting in line and I actually got pretty close to the front.  I thought I got a lot more photos of the Con than I did.  Most of mine are of my husband and kids at the zoo and parks, but I'll put them up on Photobucket tomorrow and post a link. 

Jon is right, the Hasbro booth was insane.  I didn't get a Little Pony or my Galactica ships.  :'(  That is unless Jon came through and snagged a ticket.  :o=  I'll PM you in a sec, Jon.

I thought the Bionic Woman panel was good and I'm looking forward to seeing the show, but the most kick a** of all was the preview of The Sara Conner Chronicles!  WOW!  If that show doesn't take off I'll be totaly suprised.  The best part-teen John Conner is running for his life amongst a hail of bullets, running from the huge cyborg guy, when all of a sudden his classmate (Summer Glau) runs over the cyborg in her pick up truck, flings open the door and says "come with me if you want to live!"  The place went WILD!  I'm hooked.

My costume got good reveiws too.  Lots of people asked me to pose for photos, and although I'm not all that outgoing, I loved it!  I also met up with a couple of other guys I know that were wearing flightsuits.  I think Graham should have a picture of that.  ;)

I'm so jealous! ;)  I'd love to be able to go to SDCC, just once.  Were you able to get any autographs or celebrity pictures?  The My Little Pony exclusive sold out very quickly, and they're pretty expensive on eBay right now. :-\  I read a lot of complaints about the Hasbro booth on a MLP forum.  Anyway, I can't wait to see your pictures (and Graham's, too). :D

My wife and I had a lot of fun. We got to meet Nicolas Cage and his son Weston and they were both great  ;D. We got into both Stargate signings and My wife was so jazzed SG-1 is her favorite show :D. She got into the signings for Blade Runner and 30 Days of Night so I got to tease her about having to look at Josh Hartnett  :-* who she said was very nice
I had to settle for meeting Rosario Dawson  8) I know Life's Rough. She is so sweet and I got a really nice picture with her.I got a ticket for the Supernatural signing which Jensen Ackles was there for and the wife got to meet Kevin Bacon. Again she was very happy.Some of the other people we met were George A Romero,Kane Hodder,Danielle Harris,Tobin Bell,Sydney Poitier,Richard Hatch,Jenna Jameson,Laurel K Hamilton and Michael Madsen. We had a blast with very little disappointment. We did get some of the Harry Potter bags and we pulled a exclusive Ginny auto and the 9 card 3-D promo set and a 10 case memorable moments incentive card out of three bags. I did do some trading and I picked up a Veronica Mars season 2 Kristen Bell auto, a 6 case incentive Roger Moore auto, Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin autos which finished my Firefly set and I got the cream of the crop for Harry Potter prop cards. The 25 case incentive Harry Potter wand card numbered 16/28 ;D. I was very happy with those trades.

Hey, where were your case toppers?  In the little plastic case with the inserts, cause I didn't get any of those.  :-\  Maybe you got case toppers instead of a second set of promos?  I got OoTP red promos and extra SS sets.

The tote bags were really random this year. I actualy recived the case toppers in the little clear insert box. My brother got film cards and an extra prop card in their place. Theyre nice to resell, but I would have like to have pulled extra prop cards. Wow, I thought the SS sets were only in last years boxes. Are they the special foil print run?

Two auctions for tote bags ended today.  I know they're fun to get, but I really don't understand why people would pay $223.27 and $203.26 for them.  You can buy the items (except for the bag itself) for $200 or less.

Ridiculous, really. Did you see the inserts they offered? Both are Igor Kakaroff cards. That, with the variety of these bags, would not be possible, nor would they be that crappy. It seems like this person might have switched out a good card for a common.

Is the entire set sealed? If it is, crack it open. It seems every year they sprinkle a few test run base sets with a different foil into a few lucky goody bags. Last year it was SS. I believe the year before that was POA or POAU. The Azkaban ones were really rare and were worth a ton. The SS wasnt as scarce and were worth, I think I saw, like 40 or 50 dolloars at their peak.

Did anyone who went to Comic Con ask Artbox when they plan to release OOTPU?

The update set was going to be released in August, then it was moved to October.  Now, I've heard a rumor that it will come out late fall or early winter, before the end of the year.  Artbox moved the release date for 24 Season 5 from June until October and supposedly canceled the 24 Season 5 Expansion Set.  Maybe the rush to release so many sets in one year has finally caught up with them.

Personally, I hope OOTPU isn't released until November or December.  I need time to recoup from 3D and OOTP. :-\

I was simply told Quarter 4.
So my guess is November.

Let's say OOTPU comes out in November 2007.  The Half-Blood Prince movie will be released in November 2008.  What filler sets will Artbox release between those two sets?  It's a bit scary to contemplate.

A sketch set would be awesome. It would be perfect if released in May or so.

Some artists on Scoundrel said they sent samples to Artbox.  When Artbox showed them to Warner Bros., only a few were approved. :-\

I'd love to see a sketch set, but they NEED to space out their products more.... I'm having a difficult time keeping up (as are many of the rest of you)...

I'm in the same boat as you.  I've seen some really great deals on eBay for both 3D and OOTP, but have had to pass on most of them. :'(

Okay, Im sorry for not mentioning this before. Here is a small explanation I was given:

The Order of the Phoenix Update set will be out at the end of the year. They want it out before Christmas (of course), but the way I was told, it seems it wont be out until maybe just weeks prior. I also asked about future sets and I was told that there will be a minimal amount of sets released next year, most likely only one, and i assume that will be the Half-Blood Prince set. There have just been too many HP sets released this year and they want to slow down and expand on their other sets. There will be, though, some exclusive mini sets (kind of like the Death Eater sets) released soon or perhaps early next year for those who just cant wait for more cards. There were also two card sets that were listed on the employee record slips at the Artbox booth. I asked about them and was told that they may be at the Con (they never made it), but if they werent, they would be offered as exclusives on their website or perhaps through dealers (I think). The first was a "HP Plate Set" which was described as cards in metal plating. Im not sure if they are just regular cards or if they have pieces of costumes or props in them. The second was "HP Crystal Set", which, I was told, was a set of cards with crystal etching, and, like the other set, Im not sure what kind of cards they are. We joked about their website and how it has been two and a half years since their last update. Hopefully they will update it a bit more in the near future along with openning up some kind of online store where exclusives (like promo sets and the card sets mentioned before) will be offered.

I can not tell you how happy I am to hear that!!

They finally realized they're killing the HP market!  I can't imagine that dealers are too happy with how cheaply many of the HP and OOTP cards have been selling.  Plus, sellers took a hit with MM in October and COS in December.

I'm fine with mini-sets and exclusives to fill the gap between big sets. :)

Well it's been just over a week since I got back. No more Boggy on tour. I had some great advice before I went...take it slow and don't try to do it all.
First off, "take it slow"  :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: That was the only way. The shear volume of bodies prevents anything else. Just to make sure, within 5 minutes of entering the hall on preview night, a woman of Hulk Hogan proportions decided my ankle was preferable to the floor. And of course, I was in the wrong  ::)
Thanks to Sharon's "It seemed funny at the time but I forgot my birthday's coming up" picture, I got recognised by Kelly, Jon, Bryan, Jennifer (Jfer21) and several unknowns who are guests on the forum. Each day had it's highlights. Friday's was meeting Jennifer at the Card Talk breakfast and her very generous offer of giving me her freebie from the meeting - a DVD box set of the 3rd season of 4400. Thankyouthankyouthankyou. Saturday was the busiest. Breakfast at the Hilton - many thanks Bryan - getting in the longest queue ever with a fully costumed Kelly to see the pilot of The Bionic Woman and getting Kelly to speak to Sharon on the phone "she sounds so American"  :rofl: :rofl:, getting a "bathroom" pass so me and Kelly could swap places for her Battlethingy Whatica presentation, having yet more people saying hello (I had the custom shirt on) and finding out I was one number away from winning a Heroes autograph card (Clair) and one number away from the "right to buy" raffle on the Artbox stand.

Second off, "don't try to do it all"  First you need to make a list from the web site as to what events and meetings you want to go to. You then look at all those that clash and flip a coin. You then get your events schedule when you regester and see all the extra bits that wasn't on the site and chaos ensues. I got to see Bionic Woman and Heroes (no info for the new season but Kevin Smith is directing one of the six filler episodes) but couldn't get in to see the new Superman animated feature, "Doomsday". I got there at 7.45pm for an 8.30 start. Not only was the hall full but the queue for the 10.30pm showing had reached capacity as well  :o
The trading card meeting was very poorly attended - about 30 people including two reps from Sony who had heard that the card market was in decline and a voice artist who wanted to know what trading cards were but soon lost interest and left. The meeting was held and organised by the publisher of Non-Sport Update, Roxanne Toser. The biggest anomaly of this meeting was that although Inkworks, Topps, Upper Deck and Artbox had stands at the show, none attended but Rittenhouse, in the form of Steve Charendoff, who didn't have a stand, did. Being the shy and retiring type that I am, I only had one question/statement about multi-case incentives and how I hate them (for being out of the reach of mere mortal's pockets) and if the product is good enough, the dealers wouldn't need incentives to take extras.

All in all, I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Met nice people who were gracious enough to let me be in their company, mixed with thousands of like-minded geeks and generally felt like a 10 year-old in Santa's factory.

Everyone should go once. Ride of a lifetime  ;D

First Year is always tough,    Shin Pads are Steel Toe Caps are recommended.!

This was our 10th Year at the show and it doesnt get any easier.  (Maybe its me getting older).

Hope you will be back next year and encourage more to attend,  its great to see the Brit contingent increase each year

You will have to join the "Do San Diego On a Budget Club",  We have several Members now, who come over with us and stay a outside the city and save on Hotels Share cars etc

This Year we stayed in Carlsbad 30 Mins North of the Show, in a nice hotel suites with Full Kitchen etc at $50 US a night (Lot cheaper than near the show, even cheaper if you share), we have sort of refined cost cutting over the years (using Frequent Flyer Miles to fly Free to the show etc). We took Paul Hart & John The Hat from Cardtalk this year and travelled as a group (We are encouring San Diego On a Budget!!!)  ;D

Well Boggy's huge box of goodies has arrived  ;D.  It actually arrived on Tuesday but we have been having problems with the internet, otherwise I would have been shouting about my tote bag much sooner  ;D ;D ;D

It is so much nicer than I was expecting.  It is a huge, cream, canvas zip up bag and I can now see why Kelly struggled carrying it - it is really heavy.  I had a tote bag extra  ;D ;D.  Graham had bought a David Tennant show special and put it in the bag and swapped the retail box for a hobby box - and that was the best bit.  I got better cards in the two boxes of OotP than I did in my whole case.  Well I had to get lucky sometime.  I got a really lovely Owl prop and, wait for it, I got a Daniel Radcliffe redemptions ;D ;D ;D.  I am lucky enough to have a Ron from a previous set but this is my first single Harry.  I also got a beautiful 3d OotP binder.  This is very similar to the World of HP binder and to be honest I didn't know it even existed.

Have I changed my mind about the goodie bags from San Diego?  No, I still think they are grossly unfair to the majority of card collectors but I am incredibly grateful to my big brother for getting this one for me  ;D ;D ;D

That was the Show Exclusive Binder this Year  500 of them one in each tote bag along with 1 other random binder from other sets.

Nice looking binder, although I am not sure if there will be much demand for it.

Yeah great news on the Harry redemption I too am really excited about going again next year and exploring a little bit more my experience was dominated by visiting artbox, inkworks and Topps and the few card dealers that were in attendance, next time I hope to get into the rest of the exhbits and some of the seminar type of things.
I went as part of my family vacation and managed to get to go to see the pandas at san diego zoo and we did the tour of the midway aircraft carrier. Next year I will definately be taking a camera. i would definately recommend anyone who is seriously into sci fi to go to this show it topps anything i have ever visited in the UK.
I am glad Graham had a good time he looked a man on a mission when I saw him at the artbox stand.

I'm really glad that all reports of me were of me trying to get something impossible or carrying a load of not-mine goodies. I would hate to think everyone out there thought I was there to enjoy myself  :rofl:
