I just got an email from one of my distributors that the Chamber of Secrets trading cards are now available for pre-order!  The target release date is mid to late December.  Yep, another Harry Potter set this year. ::)

I sincerely had hoped that they would put it off until after the first of the year, but maybe they are hoping to cash in on some Christmas sales.

Of course, this is typical Artbox.  No information on who's signing, what the costumes and props are, or anything else that might give a hint as to why we would want to order this set. >:()  And, of course, it will sell out and Artbox will again have proof that information is not necessary to sell cards. :rofl:

I'm awfully cynical tonight.  Maybe I ought to try some sleep...

I reckon there will be a few repeat cards from MM - Basilisk skin and Riddles Diary.  Of course these should be in this set but it is a shame they are being released so close together.

I love the idea of some of those Prop cards you have listed  ;D I just pre-ordered a couple boxes myself and thank goodness I don't have to pay for them until December since I have a Root canal I have to worry about paying for right now  ::)

I can't wait to see the Prop cards because out of all the cards for HP they are my favorite. I just wish they weren't so expensive  :( :-[ ::)

That's exactly what I'm worried about, repeat cards after I just shelled out good cash for a basilisk skin and Dracos quidditch sweater.  Watch and see, they'll have a Draco quidditch robe in bright green for the CoS set.  >:()

I don't know, I'm almost thinking that the COS cards they included in MM were more of a preview of what's to come, kind of setting the temptation for the COS set.  So, if they have a Draco Quidditch Costume Card, maybe it would be the robe, rather than the sweater.  ???  I just don't think they will repeat any of these cards, unless there are some super variant cuts...then again maybe I'm just hoping...or placing too much faith in them!  ::)  :o=

Hold on    I would predict about a march/april release on this set based on past experience I cant believe we will be having a Potter release so close to MM. However I do welcome any decent looking future set.

With MM released in October and OOTP coming out in June or July, it would be much better if COS were released in February or March.  That would give collectors a chance to work on their MM sets and save up a bit for COS, never mind the difficulty of paying for boxes and cases right around Christmas and Hannukah.

Maybe Artbox has other releases, like the poster card set, that they're planning to release in the spring.

Yeah, the money part is scaring me.  I think my account should have an unbreakable charm placed on it, b/c at the rate I'm going, not only will it be broke, but so will I.   ::)

I would be surprised if this set isn't delayed for a little while anyway.  Haven't we seen almost every set delayed by some period of time?  Unless, like Rich said, they worked on both sets at the same time.   :-\

MM was originally scheduled for release in May and COS in June (or so it says on the COS promos).  I wouldn't be surprised if the boxes and cases were packed and ready to ship now.

I highly doubt that Artbox will release the CoS set before the New Year. In fact, I'd bet a case of CoS they won't. With all other projected release dates for their 2006 sets being well delayed, it's unlikely they could push a release so close to MM. It's a stupid idea financially - dealers and distributors would likely be still recovering from MM and I daresay would have less to spend on CoS at this point in time. Also, as a side note, MM prices for boxes (I rarely see cases) are dropping slightly... they were at $90+ BIN at release and I am seeing some go for around $60.

A cauldon will be an interesting prop to pull off.  I wonder how they'll do it?  If anyone collects sportscards, remember the first helmet piece cards that came out in the 80's?  They had a thick plug of the helmet like they punched it out with a hole puncher.  :rofl:

I am pleased that Moaning Myrtle has signed again as I don't have that card yet and they are soooo rare.  A Lockhart auto would be the pull of the year for me  ;D.  I am surprised by the number of costumes - I suppose they had to do so many Harry ones because Fleur wasn't in this film  ;).  Looking good  ;D.  I am just a bit worried if they do come out before Christmas, very expensive  :-\

I recently purchased a card Branagh signed for the Wild Wild West set, but I'd much prefer a Lockhart auto. :)  I am disappointed that there is no Daily Prophet prop for the COS set.

I REALLY like the blue on the costume cards.  Very nice.  Does anyone else think the mandrake picture is strange?  There were a lot better shots of a mandrake in the movie.  Do you think they used that photo because they didn't want people to think they were actually getting a particular mandrake, like Rons or Dracos?

I thought the Mandrake picture looked odd also.  It's shaped triangular, but in the movie the Mandrakes' bodies resembled a human torso. :-\

When you combine the blue costume card with Harry's red plaid shirt, that's going to make for one colorful card! :)  I wonder how thick the Aragog card will be?

The swatches they're showing on the cards aren't real.  I just copied the pictures into photoshop and lightened them up.  When I did that, the blue and gold designs on the card showed through.  I think they just blacked in the center of the swatch so they could use the cards as samples.  A plaid Harry shirt is still very possible!  ;D

I missed the Goblet of Fire Update set completely do to a few health problems, so I am very excited to be back into the HP collecting with this upcoming set.

The Prop cards sound fantastic and I hope to get at least one Prop card in one of the 2 boxes I pre-ordered  ;D :o=

They have delayed this for so long it's hard to believe that they haven't put everything possible into this set already.

No, there wasn't an update for SS.  The reason Artbox puts out an update set is because all the props and costumes they want to use for the set aren't available to them from Warner Brothers when the original set is released.  So, since the CoS movie was released years ago, there shouldn't be an update set.

I don't think that there will be an update for COS ..now Anna is partially right about about the props and costumes but the main reason that there is an update (besides they can sell more cards and get Warrick Davis to sign again) is really the main reason is that they don't give away most of the story line and the ending, as if no one has read any books ???? if you notice most of all the update series deal with the last 1/2 of the movie as the original release is almost all the first half of the movie and that includes costume and props also

We never thought we would get Maggie Smith so there is always hope  :o=.  They are bound to bring out some sort of SS retrospective or maybe they will get all the cast back together for the big scene in HBP.

It's not just the ending - sometimes the studios won't permit some of the most revealing images or FX shots to be used in cards that will hit the streets before the film debuts, and that's the best excuse for an update set (other than "we'll make more money"). Update sets tend to be a natural idea for when the latest movie is released on DVD and the interest is repiqued. I expect that Artbox specifically went for the different direction by planning Memorable Moments as an alternative approach instead of COS plus COS Update in a half-year period.

Anyway, I already have my hunk of basilisk skin, from the MM set. I still need to find out if they have to destroy my piece of Tom Riddle's diary before HWMNBN can be killed.  I've been having these strange dreams. ... ;)

Yeah, and rather than replacing her they just cut the character Madam Hooch out... odd!

I think she was just outraged at the poor pay everyone's getting in comparison to what Warner Bros. are raking in. Can't say I blame her!

And, so consequently a lot of the quidditch was able to be cut out as well, so it seems.
Shame because it is so much of the story.

I'm kinda of disappointed that they haven't gotten an Alan Rickman or Robbie Coltrane auto yet. Was hoping COS would have them. Any one know why they haven't done one yet. Not even a Snape's costume card. Very disappointing.

The actors have to agree to sign and Warner Bros. give Artbox the costumes Warner Bros. want to give out and most costumes are used over. Snape's outfit hasnt changed much from the 4 films.

My guess (and it is only a guess) is that Alan Rickman doesn't want the costumes he has worn to be used.  The only reason I think this is that some actors are very protective of everything to do with their image ie Christopher Lee with the sketch cards.  It could be because he always wears the same thing but even if the costume changes very little I am sure the studio would have a lot of them made as 'just in casers'  :)

If I remember correctly we had a thread where we spoke about this before, but Alan Rickman is SUPER protective about his image being used.

Has anyone got the COS display boxes aviable on preorder?

Tom Breyer/tomunique and Potomac Distribution are accepting pre-orders.  I'm sure there are others, as well.

By the way, no ship date has been confirmed, but Potomac is listing it as December 31.

Thanks for that I had a look at Potomac Distribution's website but they have a warning about paying import tax that apparently can be quite expensive here in the United Kingdom, so I went for the Collector Zone which has a release date for 22nd Dec, but I am guessing it will be more likely to be January.

Yes it can be pricey (been caught, had to pay  >:() ) but at the moment with the exchange rate you will still find it cheaper to buy from the US and risk the import duty.  Even if you get hit with everything they can throw at you it will still probably be cheaper than buying from the UK.  Plus you will receive the cards quicker  ;D.

The last we had heard, back in November, was that the set would ship before the end of the year.  Hopefully, we'll find out this week what the actual ship date will be.

Neville's grandmother's costume would have made an excellent costume card!

Is their any news of the UK release?

There is no separate UK release.  Artbox ships all of its cases over a period of a few days, sometimes staggering the shipments (UK, US East Coast, US central, then US West Coast) and sometimes not.  But, it's all the same release.

Uk took ages to get the GOFu set.

True, but the problem was with the sole distributor in the UK, not Artbox.  I'm pretty sure that there weren't such long delays with the other HP sets.  When POAU was released, the first person to have the cards on eBay was a UK seller.

That is true. I didn't get any MM boxes (Although I have a lovely base set thanks to Sharon ;D), was there much delay there?

I think people in the UK received MM about a week after we did in the US.  Let's see...the first case breakdowns by US buyers were October 25 and the first from a UK buyer was October 31.  Artbox usually does staggered shipping, but couldn't for MM, otherwise the dates might have been a bit closer together.

That wasn't too bad really then.

I wonder where the UK MM that was posted about came from though?  I know I only bought from the US this time.

Tom says that he hears the expected "street date" is approximately December 29, with staggered shipping to distributors starting about December 20. One would can that this is a big enough window so that UK cases get into the first breakdowns. ...

If shipping is going to start five days before Christmas, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some delivery delays.  I was hoping to have my boxes under the tree Christmas morning, since they're my Christmas presents.  Oh well.

So, who's going to be on eBay this New Year's Eve, looking for COS cards? ;)

It really does seem like this set is packed with goodies!  I kind of wish I saved my money for this set instead of the MM set.  I can still drool over the ones I see online though :rofl:

It's a big set.  POAU has 20 autos, 23 costumes, and 12 props (including the creature cards).  COS has 16 autos, 18 costumes, and 13 props.

A green Draco robe.  I frickin' knew it!  >:()  Time to sell the MM Quidditch sweater on ebay.  Last chance if anyone wants it.
I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Ginny's pink costume card.  But kind of dissapointed about Lockhart's costume being brown.  :-\

This set has Lily and James Potter autos.  When do they appear in COS?  I'm drawing a blank.  The International Movie Database lists them for the movie, but as uncredited.

They were in a photograph maybe?  And what does (double) mean next to each of thier names in the auto list?  If it was a double auto wouldn't that just count as one card?

I missed that.  Maybe they're dual auto/costume cards.

Someone on a Yahoo Groups HP movie group said they were in the first scene of the movie.  Harry is looking at the photo album Hagrid gave him and sure enough, there are James, Lily, and baby Harry!

That's stretching it a bit though for autographs  :-\.  If they had not signed before I wouldn't mind them in this set but really they could have settled for 14 autos and had this as a prop instead.  This is only a little moan because this does look like a lovely set  :)

the autos are great but whos the "must have" of the set" i know its normaly down to how many each actor sign, in the past actors auto are cheeper if thay have apperd more than once like bonnie wrights (exspencive POA / cheep GOFU)

Really looking forward to this set looking amazing plus it looks like we have got all the auto signers we wanted for this set plus some duplicated signers as I would expect.

Since the cast is mostly the same for each movie, there are going to be repeat signers.  Otherwise, we'd have only one or two autos per case.

I would much rather have a Lily and James Potter dual auto than a generic witch or wizard Harry encounters when he mistakenly floos to Knockturn Alley.

I'd rather have some Dual/Double Autos too. I fear they will run out of ideas and start a new Warwick Davis collection, WD1: W.Davis as a Goblin, WD2: W.Davis as Bankteller, WD3: W.Davis as Choir Conductor, WD4: W.Davis as Random creature, WD5..  ::)

It's a big surprise that there isn't a Flitwick auto for this set. :)

The only autograph on my wish list for this set that didn't make it was Mark Williams.  I would have loved to see a Mr./Mrs. Weasley dual card.

And it seems that we still have to wait for the missing signers. Robbie Coltrane and Alan Rickman may be tough to get, it seems that they don't like ti sign on cards. But why is Tom Felton still missing?  ???  ::)

I cannot remember for the life of me where I read it, but I'm fairly sure Tom Felton is just as careful of what he signs as Snape and Hagrid are!
Maybe he hasn't been offered enough $$ (in his opinion! LOL) or perhaps he wants more control over who makes money from his image and autos?
It could also be that Artbox will include him in the HBP set in the future?  :o=
It might be worth asking him the next time any of us attends one of the conventions where he is a guest!  ;)

Like you said maybe he's been careful of what he signs, he's always warning people about ebay and fake photos that sellers claim to have been signed by him etc. so it's understandable, but most of the cast has signed already, at least those his age have, including Jamie Waylett & Joshua Herdman (his friends from way before the HP movies) and even the Trio has signed more than once. Not to mention he's been to his own share of cons, and he seemed more than happy to organize special signings for his fans (something not many actors are willing to do) so i doubt it's about the money.

Maybe Artbox has the answer to that question :-\?, at least it would be easier to ask Artbox than ask him these days. I doubt they haven't approached him yet. And i have my fingers crossed for the HBP set too, I hope he signs for that one  :o= :o=. The set would look a tad bit incomplete without Snape and Draco  :-[.

I must be the only Shacker who would love another Warwick Davis autograph  ::).  His was the first character where I could say I had all the autos - signed and unsigned.  The only thing that still miffs me is that card where he is listed as Flitwick instead of the Choir Master  >:()

Oh, well, just when I started loving the idea of a dual auto.   ::) Well, there are still some really awesome autos in this set!  ;)

I'm actually quite relieved about that, they just aren't right for this set.  Now if they replaced this with Mr Davis  ;).  No seriously I wonder if they will do any type of Cornish Pixie prop as a surprise  :o=.

Oh and as 5594mike started guessing who would be the most expensive signer for this set I will now have my go.  I think it will be Kenneth Branagh.  But since I have been waaayyy out on all the other sets this will probably be the common one  ::)

Branagh is certainly the biggest name for this set, but if he signed a lot of cards, prices should be reasonable.  He seemed to have signed a ton of cards for the Wild Wild West movie set.  I picked up one of those (prices were generally less than $15 :o ), because I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get one of his from COS.

Not one card in the 50-150's yet :-\. Hopefully the Case incentives will change that. From what i've seen they usually make up for the lack of Premium AUTOs with rare or low print Prop/Costume cards and vice-versa. And after Memorable Moments..what's with the number print?.

I'm sure, at least 3 props will be in the area below 120. I think P4 and P9 will be that rare and of course the 25 case incentive (and maybe the 10 case incentive too).

There weren't many Fawkes feathers on display at SDCC, so that card will probably be quite limited.

There are over 100 auctions on eBay this morning.  I don't know about anyone else, but my watch list is full! :)

If the current bid is low, I often place a small bid to watch an auction.  Once in a while, I even win the item for that price! :D

I'm sure it's a great card to have, but I am terrified of snakes.  Think I'll pass on this one!

Digital Heros Ebay store seems to have the most Chamber of Secrets cards with 23, but there opening bids are outrageous.  Too rich for my pocket book.  They are out of Washington state, USA, so I guess the US got cards first.  Too rich for my pocket book.  I find it strange that Prop cards have lower opening bids than the Costume cards.  I generally collect only Costume Cards and with the exception of the Incentive cards, there total numbers are twice has high as the Prop cards.  I puts some bid on some of the prop cards.  I enjoy watching the auctions as much as winning the cards.  I probably won't win any, but it's early yet.

The opening bids are way too high, but I guess the seller feels that since not many people have the cards on eBay right now, some buyers might be desperate enough to pay those prices.

There aren't any really big standouts, but the set as a whole is nice.  I think Artbox did a great job with the props, especially considering how long ago the movie was filmed.

I like the props and costumes (don't let's talk about the Autos), but the POAU-set was also extremely nice, when you see the cards ...  ::) ;)

In terms of the actual cards, I still think that POAU is the best set Artbox has produced.  The collation problems, dud boxes, and very high print run are what ruined that set for many dealers and case buyers, but the cards are fantastic.

I agree, I loved POAU.  The set, as a whole, had everything: autos, props, and costumes.  It's just too bad you couldn't rely on getting a box with two inserts...or in some cases even one.  ::)

I think COS has one of the best set of costume cards...all of them are major.  Have we seen the Hermione sweater yet?

The props for this set are really, really nice.  I like all the variants of the Magical me book...did you see the one with part of Gilderoy's face on it!  :o

I think, we will see a lot of variants of this book, but yes, this special one with the face is absolutely amazing. :)

There are one or two Hermione sweaters on eBay, but I haven't seen a Ginny sweater.  It'll be fun to see how high the Lockhart book with the face goes!  If I had pulled it, that's a card I would have kept.

Yes, 600 and yes, only 2. And what's the third one?  ??? ::)

Artbox does not release info about the number of autos that were produced.  However, one of our members, Jeff Allender, does the statistical work to estimate how many cards each actor signed.  There aren't enough case and box breakdowns yet for that, though.

On the 25 case incentive card is it not a Letter from Hogwarts ????? The reason because I'm asking, is that I have just purchased a card with the swatch in green writing with Lockhart's name printed at least 4 times ....It looks to me that it's from a list of books that would have been written by him, of title then author....just can't figure out why Hogwarts would be sending a letter with a listing of all his books and then putting his name beside each one????

You have a piece of the inside letter.  This is a list of the books students were required to buy - Lockhart being Lockhart every one was written by him, hence all the names.  That is an absolutely gorgeous card that sums up old Gilderoy to a tee  ;D

One thing to note even this early, though. Out of the five case breakdowns, there were three different autograph compositions. Ginny was in all 3, and Pomfrey, Vernon, and Sprout were in 2. So if there are any very-rare signers they should be within the other 6. But the single-group signers came in pairs, Lockhart-Myrtle, Aragog-Petunia, Dudley-Percy. If that pattern holds up, we might find that every autograph is at least in the 200-250 range and an auto-master set might be achievable without a second mortgage. (But it probably won't happen.)

And so far, the cases that have the same autos appear to have the same props/costumes/cels too.
