: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ferdinand_the_yak October 17, 2006, 06:21:29 AM Post the loot from your boxes/cases here!
This thread is now unlocked - sorry for the delay! : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bryanjs14 October 28, 2006, 07:55:18 AM Well, I broke 4 cases, and I decided just to scan in the Color (and a Super rare one)...I had no boxes with 1 sketch...Topps seemed to have pulled off a nice release! I did have a case with 4 Dalla Vecchia's and another with 4 Shums...that was a little dissapointing. Well, here are the goods!
(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k161/BryanJamesSportsCards/ColorGroup2.jpg) (http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k161/BryanJamesSportsCards/ColorGroup1.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ferdinand_the_yak October 28, 2006, 08:00:01 AM Oooooooooooooh - nice pulls Bryan! And you've pulled one of Renae de Liz's panel sketches... now you will have to collect the lot ;)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bryanjs14 October 28, 2006, 08:03:07 AM lol, funny thing about that. I opened all my packs backwards, so I looked at the back of each card before the front, this way, I can easily spot any foils, or, if I see that there is a sketch, I put it aside till the end of the box so it is like an incentive to rip through the rest of the packs knowing there is nothing there lol. well, when I got the De Liz, I looked through the cards like 5 times and I could not find the sketch, and I thought it was stuck to another card and after like 5 minutes of searching through the same 7 cards I finally figured out that THAT was the sketch, if I would have went through them normally, and just looked at the fronts, I prob would have never known and threw it in the box of base cards...that is how detailed that card is
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : sketchqueen October 28, 2006, 07:24:26 PM I also received a case of this product from my loving husband as a surprise. The "surprise" was on us instead ...
I received 16 sketches by only 9 different artists and of those 16 sketches, only 12 were unique. Below is the complete list (and forgive me for not knowing who/what some sketches are - mine are not as easily identifiable as some others seem to be) 3 Grant Gould "Ring" sketches (all three sketches are identical - 2 are up for trade) 3 Teranishi sketches (one very nice Aragorn and two identical monsters - one is up for trade) 3 Howard Shum sketches (let's call him Pippin, we'll call this one Legolas, and the other has a beard so we'll say Boromir - be happy to trade the Pippin and possibly the Legolas) 2 Waterhouse monsters - I'd be happy to trade one of these too, I promise to scan them in shortly 1 Fabbri Helmeted Warrior 1 Katie Cook Elven Female 1 Leah Mangue Gollum 1 Dillon Orc 1 Oatney Wormtongue And 1 Gold Parallel 3 of 9 numbered to 45/99 7 complete sets of the Kayanan puzzle (no painting card for me) 8 complete sets of the silver Foil Art cards 7 of the Bronze Foil Art cards (I have an extra Bronze #3 to trade for either 8 or 9 - those are the ones I need to finish off that set) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bryanjs14 October 28, 2006, 07:55:54 PM I am sorry to hear about the bad luck. Believe me, out of the cases I opened, I had a TON, and I mean a TON of duplicate artists. One case had 4 Shums, another 4 Dalla Vecchias, another 4 Fabbris.
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : sketchqueen October 28, 2006, 08:29:21 PM The duplication within artists I could have dealt with- but getting the EXACT SAME SKETCH three times was a bit much. Had I gotten three different Grant Goulds, I would have been happier, but you know, I should have expected it. Topps doesn't ever seem to care about collation - I complained, as I know many dealers did last time with Evo and they brushed everyone off.
I'm still writing another letter. It'll at least make me feel better. : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : beckham1 October 28, 2006, 11:09:18 PM Sorry to hear about your pulls Jo...just having finished my case I can tell you that I understand. I am really disappointed. I will try to get some pics up soon. I guess I just expected a little more after seeing the incredible sketches on marlyeds site. Don't get me wrong I like a couple of them, but most seem somewhat Evo rehash and with no possibility of AM work it is what it is.
I should add the base set is pretty nice. : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa October 28, 2006, 11:16:00 PM No chance of aftermarkets on these cards was sad news indeed. I'm guessing the color cards in this set will be outrageous, but the pencils won't sell for as much as the Evo sketches did.
I'm wondering if there are still some people that don't know about the aftermarket ban? They'll be angry collectors if they were counting on coloring! : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : beckham1 October 28, 2006, 11:41:55 PM Here are my pics. Like I said there are a few I like...you can probably figure those out

I had very similar problems with Topps sorting...in 4 cases received 4 duplicate cards...and only 2 color cards TOTAL. When I worked on the set, I wanted to make sure I exploded with color in almost every card i did and guess I was expecting that color karma to get back to me...but...no such luck. In fact...in one case...4 boxes had NO SKETCH CARDS AT ALL...a case with only 8 sketch cards!!!...and dupes were in those 8. I really wish Topps would shuffle those cards a bit before packing'em up and shipping out to visually hungry collectors. Hope all of you have better luck with your pulls...there's some really beautiful and rich sketch cards out there! : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 01:10:21 AM Howdy again this is my first Case breakdown thought it was only fair as I have been away from my next 2 cases for to long already.
(http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase1.jpg) The Top Right sketch is the possible mcrea but I dont think it is see what you think the 06 looks like mcrea and it looks like he has squashed his initials unlike other cards. (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase12-1.jpg) Here is the Staggs troll in the middle it is ace, great work Cat. Shame about the dupes of Gandalf from an artist I dont recognise ? : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bryanjs14 October 29, 2006, 01:14:28 AM Those Gandalfs are Roberto Flores if I am not mistaken
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Nienna October 29, 2006, 01:18:26 AM The top left sketch from the first batch of cards is by Howard Shum. ::)
The one underneath it (of Leggy & Gimli) is by Len Bellinger. ;) None of the rest look to be McCrea's handiwork Rich, sorry. :-\ : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 01:21:59 AM Hi Sorry Guys, top Right is the one I am not sure about, I found loads of shums in Evolution as with everyone else. I had been looking at the scan but it is reversed I forgot about that mirror/reflection thing. :-[
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bryanjs14 October 29, 2006, 01:32:11 AM Ah, pretty sure than is Matthew Goodmanson
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 01:36:35 AM Right you are thanks for that, anyway I am now going to open my other 2 cases. My brother was having a sleep just recovering from a late night last night ;)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Nienna October 29, 2006, 01:40:16 AM Ah, pretty sure than is Matthew Goodmanson I'm not sure it is Bryan - it might be worth posting a query to see if one of the other artists who frequent here recognise the siggy?Go tip a bucket of cold water over your brother to wake him up, so you can get on with opening your cases Rich!! :o  : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 03:57:35 AM OK Dudes, here comes case number 2, not quite as good as number one but the Pence Galadriel is absolutley gorgeous and I got no duplicate drawings just a couple of dupe Artists which you would expect from the insert ratio. Let me know what you think.
(http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase2.jpg) (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase21.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 06:31:10 AM Okey Dokey, I have finished my 3rd case now and personally I am very pleased with its contents. Also I found one of the Gold Parallel foil cards wich was numbered out of 15/99 there is a scan of this card as well as the sketches.
(http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase31.jpg) Another great Oatney Sketch of Eowyn and I like the Gollum as well as the Pronovost Treebeard. (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRcase32.jpg) Saved the best for last an awesome Renae De Liz and my Gold card. (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g155/bush360/LOTRbestones.jpg) Here are my Favorite sketches of the cases although I am impressed by most of the others great work from all you artist types ! ;D : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ocdlotr October 29, 2006, 09:59:15 AM Sensational pulls...3 great cases!!! :o :o :o
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : bush360 October 29, 2006, 06:38:15 PM Thanks very much Len, a great amount of grattitude goes out to you and all the other artists who have made this set so great for me.
Rich : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : 5594mike October 30, 2006, 04:54:12 AM wow rich they are some :o :o :o sketches
congratulations on them pulls, i see you've put them on ebay. the backing card sandy colour really compliments the pencil sketches and the use of the white pencil as highlight is really cool 8) 8) i've got to stop looking at them as sams saying i'm getting that look, ::) of over excitment and intrest over them, she keeps reminding me of memorable moments........ of well good luck with you auctions mate : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : EmpPalpatine October 31, 2006, 06:53:26 AM Just reminding anyone that my Sauron Auction ends Weds!

Here are the highlights of the 2 cases (short of 2 boxes that haven't been cracked yet, my wife had to get a break from the 2 monsters, so when she gets back we will finish :) ) Overall its not too bad, the 1st case was definetly a lot worse, but there are some good looking sketches in there.

I'm liking Ray Dillons Gollum sketches a LOT. The red pencil bolrog is also really interesting. I haven't seen one of those before.
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bogleg October 31, 2006, 03:56:05 PM Just reminding anyone that my Sauron Auction ends Weds! Would have loved to have bid on this card, but you only ship to N and S America. Why ???http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180044138515 : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : neko October 31, 2006, 08:53:24 PM when i posted my listing I could not find the option to list for worldwide delivery...the new listing set up is screwy. I would just shoot the artist a message to see if they will ship..more than likely they will.
As for the duplicate Gould sketches, he is offering a trade deal for some artwork. look here http://scoundrelpublishing.com/spart/viewtopic.php?t=1291 : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : sketchqueen October 31, 2006, 09:34:26 PM "As for the duplicate Gould sketches, he is offering a trade deal for some artwork."
BUT but but- I'm a CARD collector, not an art collector *lol* (the above said totally tongue in cheek)- I do appreciate the offer but I'll keep my trips to trade for other cards *hopefully!* : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork November 01, 2006, 01:47:37 PM Well I just cracked 6 cases, and here are the highlights:
Sean Pence Eowyn...YES!!! 2 color Chandlers (and he only did 50 pack inserted colors....LUCKY!! :) Big Blue Eyed Gollum!!! Not to mention some other sweet stuff in these first nine: (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web_1.jpg) I absolutely love the Keith Phillips Aragorn!!! And the Jessica Hickman is awesome as well!!! (as they all are :) ) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web_4.jpg) And I love the Matthew Goodmanson Aragorn facing down Lurtz!! (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web_5.jpg) Some more pretty sketches: (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web_3.jpg) A couple puzzle cards that need to find the rest of the puzzle pieces :) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web_2.jpg) And lastly I need help with a few artists. I belive the gorgeous Aragorn/Arwen is Jim Kyle, but not positive, and the middle one without a sig, I need some help on him for sure :) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-web-6.jpg) Anyways, unfortunetly I will not be able to keep all of these wonderful cards, so some will hit that evil ebay, and some will get traded for my preciuos Arwen, so feel free to shoot me any offers!!! I will admit my fingers hurt a little from all the packs. One thing though, out of the 8 cases I have opened now, not a single gold foil art card!!!! : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Eve November 02, 2006, 12:25:34 AM The duplication within artists I could have dealt with- but getting the EXACT SAME SKETCH three times was a bit much. Topps doesn't ever seem to care about collation - I complained, as I know many dealers did last time with Evo and they brushed everyone off. I'm still writing another letter. It'll at least make me feel better. They're gonna tell you to look in the yellow pages for card dealers. ;D Call them personally and complain when you get the letter. Still might not do any good, but THAT will at least make you feel better speaking with a person. : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Eve November 02, 2006, 12:32:58 AM OK, my three boxes arrived today. Here I sit inside my office with my door closed. I cracked open one box, and believe me that's all I can do alone without getting in trouble at home. :o= Anyway, I pulled a Colleen Doran Eowyn and a Jake Myler Orc. The orc is colored and is beautiful. I'm very happy with both sketches, and I hope this doesn't mean the other two boxes I'm staring at suck! At any rate, Jake Myler is one of my favorites from Evolution, so I'm happy I got one of his now. Neither of these cards are up at LOTR SKETCH CARDS, or I'd post the pics. I'll have to take photos and post them this weekend. Didn't get anything else exciting, except for 1000 foil cards and the one per box promised bronze foil. Still, I'm very happy with this box.
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ocdlotr November 02, 2006, 01:02:15 AM Those are great pulls...Tess Fowlers cards are really interesting...and Jake Myler's new work is explosive with color...congrats...! ;)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : sketchqueen November 02, 2006, 02:10:27 AM They're gonna tell you to look in the yellow pages for card dealers. I SOOO remember that *lol* It was without a doubt the funniest Customer Service letter I had read - ever. I've not sit down to do anything constructive yet- with Halloween this week, the week seems shorter than usual and I'm feeling time-pressed like nobody's business. Haven't even watched Heroes yet (and it's one of my can't miss shows) but - I will write, and I'll let y'all know what they say :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : kbmum November 02, 2006, 02:26:23 AM And lastly I need help with a few artists. I love the way he splashes the color on. :)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Eve November 03, 2006, 01:02:23 AM 3 boxes bought, here's my breakdown:
Nothing but the bronze foils - no gold or parallel about 1 million of all the other foils...didn't count 1 Very Gorgeous Jake Myler Orc sketch 1 Colleen Duron Eowyn 1 Sarah Wilkinson Orc(I'll probably try to trade this one. I have a lot of orcs) 1 Patrick Hamill Uruk Hai(This one's nice) 2 Katie Cook sketches(I see what you mean about collation). However, I think both the Cook sketches are two of her better ones. One is Denother eating a cherry, and one is listed on Marleyeds site, so here's the photo of one that I pulled . (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f273/catcardlady/Cook_Gollum12.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 03, 2006, 01:42:10 AM Oh my gosh! I want a Katie Cook card sooooo bad! Nice, Eve. ;D
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : HPfamily November 03, 2006, 05:56:02 AM Well, 3 cases arrived on Monday! It has taken me this long
to "chill" on my pulls. In no way am I disappointed in what artists I have. So many of these that I am completely in love with!! I am though, disappointed in Topps and how these cards were inserted. I wish they were "shuffled" a little more! I would have liked to have had a little more variety in the artists! So...on with the show!! Case #1 (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/case1scan1.jpg) (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/case1scan2.jpg) Case #2 (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/case2scan1.jpg) (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/case2scan2.jpg) Case #3 (only opened 4 boxes...other 4 were mailed off) (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/case3.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bogleg November 03, 2006, 06:21:05 AM Well, 3 cases arrived on Monday! I assume (and hope, as I'm not opening mine until Saturday) that the doubles were not in the same boxes :o= : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ferdinand_the_yak November 03, 2006, 06:21:51 AM Here are my 7 boxes - one had 3 sketches in it while another had 1. All others had 2.
I have to say that my favourites are the Hamill Gollum and Howard Arwen. I have some difficulty in identifying who is in the Leah Mangue sketch (last sketch in second row). (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/ferdinand_the_yak/IMG_1509.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 03, 2006, 06:48:31 AM I just won my first color sketch on ebay! A Jake Myler Pippin. But for some reason I can't get the photo to upload into photobucket so I can share. :-\ Anyway, it's cool and I'm giddy! 8)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : JimKyle November 03, 2006, 07:12:11 AM Ok I bought 2 boxes and this is what I got.
4 sketches the 5th one is my personal. 1 John Watkins Chow full color boromir (part of a multicard set) 1 Roberto Flores Gandalf 1 Darla Ecklund Boromir 1 Matthew Goodmanson Eye of Sauron Again, the fifth card is one of my personal 6 cards back. All are up for grabs if anyone is interested. Email me at jimkyle@jimkyle.net for more info. As always, I am always open to trade offers, or if someone just wants to buy one, however there are definetly some that will be harder to get out of me :) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-9.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-10.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketches-11.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 03, 2006, 07:54:33 AM Good stuff, Zach! You don't often see a Figwit card, that's kind of cool. :) The Mylers are really nice too.
I finally got my picture to load. Heres my Pippin: (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/grecopa/forum/pippin.jpg) Jackie, I'm sorry to see all the doubles you got in your cases. But you got some nice cards from other artists. Topps screwed up with collation for sure. Double sketches in the same case should never happen. : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bitsy November 03, 2006, 10:19:51 AM Those are some lovely sketches everybody! :D
Love the Pippin sketch Kelly!!!!!!!! :o I had not heard about the after market ban--what is this about? : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork November 03, 2006, 10:58:59 AM Well, pulled a couple more really great cases, man these are hit or miss a lot on the case level when it comes to certain artists. Here are 9 of the best out of one case break:

(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/dalla-vachhia.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/fabbri-2.jpg) And I just love the Green Army of dead cards, and they are all different so far!!! The single box from LondonExpo gave me :- 6 Card etched foil set 9 Card foil art set No. 4 of 9 Bronze parallel Sketch - Fabbri Sketch - Hodges The case brought the following :- Sketches:- (scans to follow later) Fabbri x2 ( one Green Army of the dead ) Cook x2 Shum Ecklund Vecchia Teranishi Persampieri Kyle Graham Flores O'Neill Goodmanson Dieffenbach Pronovost All the images on the repeat artists were different ;D The Bronze parallels reaped :- 1 (x2), 2 (x2), 3, 5, 6, 7. My lucky charm then found... Gold Parallel 2 of 9 No. 53/99 and in the same case... Gold Parallel 5 of 9 No. 24/99 Best case either of us have broken in years 8) To say I am happy is an understatement. Question now is do I go for the set of Gold Parallels or sell/trade them? : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bitsy November 04, 2006, 06:23:38 AM Great Case! Congrats! :o
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 04, 2006, 08:51:02 AM Nice case Bogleg! Are you going to post some scans? I would trade/sell the gold cards, but I'm not much for parallel sets anyway. :-\ Imagine what kind of sketches you could get for them!
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork November 04, 2006, 10:34:32 AM Just cracked 2 cases, and very happy with the De Liz Arwen, and the De Liz/ Brent Engstrom card....not to mention some other gems :)

: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 13, 2006, 05:25:57 AM Wow! No kidding! :o You got quite a nice selection. ;D
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : allender November 13, 2006, 08:06:46 AM And it also taught me to keep on opening. Myler was the last sketch card I found in the first case. And the last box from the second case held ... two Jakes! ;)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : cardz_house November 14, 2006, 07:42:50 AM Need help in identifying who drew this sketch on the left (the eye of sauron):
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1827/lotrmasterpieceeyeofsauic8.jpg) Couldn't see any signature on the card and the sketching was a bit faint too. Any ideas? : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Bitsy November 15, 2006, 02:09:12 AM The pulls just keep getting better and better! :o Congratulations everyone! ;)

: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : De Orc November 16, 2006, 12:44:32 PM Even though I dont collect LOTR for my self, I have been buying for Mrs Orc's Xmas box ;D and I have to say that I am hooked on these sketch cards ;D ;D some of the art work is simply so detailed and others are so simple yet totaly effective. I never thought that the Nazgul could make me laugh until I looked at a card by Katie Cook   I would like to thank all those artists for making the hobby interesting again ;D
De Orc 8) ;D : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : HPfamily November 16, 2006, 10:05:16 PM I'm still a huge Jake Myler fan! Same here Kelly!!! Do you remember what I said to you in my email when we were talking about the sketch card trades we made with each other? :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork November 25, 2006, 08:01:23 PM Hello Zach: Do you remember what I said to you in my email when we were talking about the sketch card trades we made with each other? :) I most certainly do!!! And your feeling was right on!!!! :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 26, 2006, 03:24:14 AM Wow! Nice Zach!!!! :o I was wondering, about the backs of those Kayanan cards. It looks like there's a recessed area in the middle, or is that a sticker? What is that part with the words on it?
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Roz November 26, 2006, 03:26:22 AM Kelly it's a sticker. Well it actually looks like paper stuck on rather than a sticker. Kayanan has signed in what looks like a felt tip pen so it's bled a little, but hey.... it's Kayanan... we question nothing. The Hologram is cool ;D
I've seen the back of the refractors and the Kayanan and whilst the Kayanans win overall, the Refractors have a much cooler back ::) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : gimli November 29, 2006, 02:19:37 AM Two cases for me and here are just the highlights
lots of the same old less than wonderful sketches but these are the ones i liked (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/chrischidgey/master.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/chrischidgey/masters.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : HPfamily November 29, 2006, 02:57:18 AM Great cards there Chris!! 8)
Who drew the color one with Frodo coming to greet Gandalf? : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Roz November 29, 2006, 03:17:03 AM Is it Bellinger?
Great sketches but so small!!! Is that a Vanderstelt Gandy too? Lucky ^%"^$%& : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : kbmum November 29, 2006, 03:27:08 AM Yep, that's a Bellinger Gandalf and Frodo. :) It's on Marlyed's site.
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : gimli November 29, 2006, 05:50:04 AM sorry for the small pics i am having trouble uploading larger pictures at the moment
will try to get them bigger : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Poisn*iv November 29, 2006, 10:30:06 AM Here are some recent pulls from some cases, pulled some great looking sketches. Holy Cow! GREAT pulls! I love that Oeming card! So many good ones! : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa November 29, 2006, 09:36:04 PM I got my last color sketch today to finish up my set of 9. ;D It just goes to show that with a little patience, staying within a tight budget and still getting color cards is possible. BUT-I don't think this would have been possible to do with Evolution. I decided to break my habit of buying only Gollum cards, to buying cards that I liked, regardless of the character (notice the 3 Mylers 8) ). I was trying to pick a favorite, but honestly, I CAN'T! If I could afford 6 more Mylers I probably would try for a 9 card set, but I wouldn't want to give up any of my other cards to do it. The Kevin Grahm card is amazing in person. I love the white markings that were added in paint. Rich Molinelli's Sam was a must have because I just like his style and Sam is my favorite character. I had'nt counted on getting 2 of Grant Gould's bad guys, and when I won the auction for the one on the top right I was floored! And happy! ;D Tess Fowlers Boromir was another that I put a bid in on and thought "there's no way I'll end up getting this one". I was wrong. 8) And what can I say about Fabbris green soldiers? My collection wouldn't be complete without it. Thanks for that one, Zach! As you can tell, I'm pretty stoked with my 9. Ok, I'll shut up now. ::)

I have a few by Kevin also...amazing work!! Scans do no justice!!! :o I also have a green KOTD!! I actually have many of Fabbri's. All are different!! And all I will keep!! ;D And as for Jake Myler? I am totally obsesses with his cards!!! I love them!! Here are the ones that I have from him...so far! ::) I know there will be more! :P (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/motocrossmom/mylercollection.jpg) And I know this is the wrong thread...but since we're talking about Myler...I got this one back not too long ago. : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ocdlotr December 04, 2006, 12:55:46 PM First let me post a larger 'Frodo Greeting Gandalf - FOTR' card for Chris that has recently been mentioned here...it's a really 'warm' sketch that is such a seminal moment in The Fellowship as it really sets the stage for the close bond and genuine friendship between Frodo and Gandalf...that first film is my personal favorite as it is here you really get a flavor for this new and unique universe that Tolkien (and Jackson) have created...and...you are introduced to, and fall immediately in love with...the Shire and Hobbits and gardening and pipeweed and the magic of this entire good vs. evil epic...and a scene like this is such an innocent one...just before EVIL enters the fray.
(http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i284/OCDLOTR/E5WELCOMEGANDALF.jpg) Next...Jackie and Kelly...glad to see Jake Myler get the credit he deserves for such beautiful and daring work in this Masterpieces set... Kelly, your Gandalf especially is really hauntingly beautiful...(and I love your entire color thrust in LOTRM collecting...some truly great cards!) ...and Jackie...wow, the Gandalf capturing the Moth and the wispy Raith (top right) are riviting pieces and Jake's aftermarket work in Evolution is the best you can get! In Evolution, I was able to pick up 45 Myler sketch cards (there was a time when these were going for under $15 each, in fact I got at least a half a dozen for under $10 way back when/then) and had 23 of them aftermarket colored...and each and every one was really carefully worked and absolutely stunning (check them out on the Scoundrel forums which you can get to via www.lotrsketchcards.com...find the Scoundrel link in the opening written intro...then once on the Scoundrel boards scroll to LOTR Evolution...and find the Jake Myler Aftermarket Topic that I posted...all the AM's I had him do are up there)...I've only got 5 this time around, am always looking for more and will post pics soon. And last but not least...I love these sketch cards...I've posted this here on the Yak Shack when Evolution first came out...I loved the simple line drawings (even rushed to the defense of the infamous Gutz Uruk-Hai sketch), loved the pencil toned portraits and obviously loved the full color minature mini-masterworks...and was able to acquire at least one sketch card from each of the 47 artists in the Evolution set. As I was part of this new Masterpieces set, this was truly a special set for me...I sent submissions to Topps when I first heard that this Masterpieces set was going to be produced and still can't really believe that they responded so positively to those submissions by allowing me the opportunity to actually do 156 (and then 162) sketch cards for what has turned out to be...in my opinion...one outstanding sketch card set, with every one of the 67 artists (plus #68...Kayanan) producing really interesting and idiosyncratic work...each with their own individualistic approach to either great classic portrature, satirically hilarious and sublime caricature, and/or personal scene-oriented epic imagery...all of it rather breathtaking considering most of these sketch cards had to be completed in either the original 20 day barrage (that's what I had to do) or the added few weeks for additional sketches. The artists that put their all into this set...did so...because they genuinely love The Lord of the Rings...both the written words of Tolkien's grand epic and the cinematic universe that Peter Jackson has created in his Trilogy...and, as a collector...I really am indebted to each and every artist in this Masterpieces set for allowing me the opportunity to put together such a great collection of mini-artworks that I will look at...at look after..."until my dying day." And it is also special because, as of Friday 12/01, I've completed the 67 artist Masterpieces set also...and this was no small feat as quite a few artists did relatively low numbers of sketches...Walks could only create 21 beautiful portraits, Justin Chung, 56...McCrae, 56...Hodgkins, 56...DeLiz, 80...etc. I wasn't lucky enough to pull one of those 6 Kayanans from my cases and don't think I'll ever be able to afford prying one away from the SUPER COLLECTORS that have managed to collect all 68 artists...the MASTER Sketch card collection ...but this is as good as you can get...especially on an educator/artists salary (thank god I can sell some of my baseball cards to fund this obsessive compulsive beautiful art inspired addiction!) So I'm happy and broke...and am really thrilled to be a part of my own collection (hehehe)... Hope everyone has a great buildup to a wonderful Holiday season...and that you all remain in good heath and spirits...:o= ;) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 December 04, 2006, 06:30:22 PM Hello Len:
Congratulations on collecting 67 of the 68 Masterpieces Artists! That is pretty cool!! 8) I would like to thank you as one of the Masterpieces Artists for all the energy and effort you put into your creations for all of us to recognize and enjoy! :) Please let me know when you are available for commission work as you asked me to keep in touch with you about this. Thanks. :) How are you coming along with the 6 replacement sketch cards you were doing? Can you tell us what you are drawing? :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : grecopa December 04, 2006, 08:45:39 PM Those Myler aftermarkets are amazing, Len! I'm going to have to get one of his Evolution cards and soon. I let a beautiful Arwen slip through my fingers on ebay the other day and now I'm kicking myself for it. >:() Like Ed said, please post your final 6 when you finish. ;D

My journey is over....Was it a good journey?....Your damn straight it was...Will I ever do it again?.....Not a chance.....Would I do it over again given the chance?....In a heartbeat!!!! :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 December 13, 2006, 06:10:22 PM Hey Zach:
That is quite the accomplishment. :) I think there are only a very small handful of people worldwide who can claim what you just did. 8) Seeing as there are only 6 Kayanan's in this set and I think one or two people have more than one of them it is logical to say that there are only 4 people worldwide who can claim to have a Master Set of Masterpieces. Yea Walks did only 21 or so cards but the clincher is the Kayanan's. I don't even want to think of the amount of money it cost you to do this. :P : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork December 13, 2006, 07:16:30 PM Well, here is the lovely lady :)

: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork January 27, 2007, 08:45:07 AM Great stuff Ian, hopefully we will see more of your collection!!! I just cracked 2 more cases, really dissappointed, I hoped that the next Walks I pulled would be the colored Arwen  I know, you guys feel sorry for my bad luck lately on finding her. I did give you a little bit more of the Walks card to try and figure out which one it is :)

*wipes drool off keyboard* ..... GORGEOUS Frodo sketch Zach from one of my fave artists ... *mwah!!* love it to bits!! ;D ;D ;D Actually, I wouldn't say that the rest of those cases were cruddy either - I definitely wouldn't be complaining if I'd been fortunate to pull them Zach! ;) ;D ;D  De Orc - you need a free photo hosting site - something like photo bucket here: http://photobucket.com/ .... then you upload the scans from your hard drive on your comp to the account you've created for yourself and then insert the image url that is created by your photo hosting site for each card you upload between the insert image tag - [img ]http://*url goes here*[/img] - when you post a reply ... it's the little picture frame icon on the bottom row of icons. Good luck with it and I look forward to seeing your cards! ;) ;D : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : De Orc January 28, 2007, 09:40:03 PM Thanks Nienna
Am giving it a go as we speak LOL taking ages to check that there is not another De Orc about ;D De Orc >:D : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork February 13, 2007, 11:05:03 AM Just cracked another 12 boxes....
(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketch-1.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/ztaylork/sketch-2.jpg) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 February 13, 2007, 05:43:19 PM Hi Zach:
Nice selection of sketch cards. Who is the Artist for the Aragorn sketch card, the one 4th row down on the left? I can't make out the name as the image is too small. Thanks. The middle Pence Eowyn is outstanding. :) : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork February 13, 2007, 07:55:00 PM The Aragorn is Steve Oatney.
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 February 15, 2007, 07:45:49 AM Thanks Zach! :)
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ocdlotr May 13, 2007, 10:27:17 AM Hi all...just a heads up...
I recently sold my "Mines of Moria" card to a terrific and honorable UK collector via Ebay...and just yesterday...5/12...the day it arrived for pick-up...some disgusting human orc decided to slit open the Global Express package and steal the contents...which included both the "Moria" LOTR Masterpieces sketch card...and a submission study of Gandalf riding the Eagle away from Orthanc... (http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i284/OCDLOTR/LOTRMBellingerRedMoria07.jpg) ...please keep an eye out for either image as you go to card shops or conventions...and kindly let me know if you spot this sketch card anywhere... ...it was headed to London...I'm sure the thief had no idea what was inside the package...they just saw it's value and I'm hoping they'll try and sell it somehow somewhere...so...any extra eyes on the lookout would be both a blessing and help us in our quest to bring justice to this dispicable creature... ...thanks so much... >:( :-[ :'( :o= : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 May 15, 2007, 05:03:32 PM As I posted in the other thread about this - just terrible Len! I hope you get some resolution on this matter and somehow the stolen card is recovered! :o=
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ocdlotr May 16, 2007, 11:41:08 AM Thanks Ed...I just feel sorry for David...I know what it is to be an OCD collector, and when you know you won a sketch card that you really need for your collection...you wait and wait and wait with excited anticipation for it to arrive safe and sound in your own little shire...I can only imagine his abject horror when he went to pick it up and was greeted with an empty slit package with a note that stated that it looked like the package had been tampered with...
...I only pray that it surfaces at some convention or is quitly shopped around and somehow this sludge is arrested and the sketch card recovered... ...thanks for your concern...and I'd appreciate as many eyes as possible to be on the lookout... :o :o= : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : savage727 May 19, 2007, 04:11:07 PM Len:
As Gandalf said to paraphrase "I will keep both eyes open as much as I can spare them" for you. Any word on the missing artwork? :o= : Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : Roz May 20, 2007, 03:26:45 PM Did I mention I now work for the Royal Mail? So I'm intercepting all cards going in and out of the country  - no... that's not even funny... this is just awful :(
: Re: The Masterpieces set: pictures, comments and box/case breakdowns : ztaylork June 08, 2007, 09:55:57 AM Well I just got 2 cases from a fellow collector needless to say I ripped them out of the Post guys hands and slammed the door and started ripping them open :) Really great cases. And my dad cracked one of his last remaining cases over the weekend, and did really well as well. :) Here are the best sheets from my 2 cases
