I thought I would start a US Dr Who thread as you are behind us and the other thread might give away too many spoilers.

Thanks, Dawn!  The season premier is September 29 at 9 p.m. EST. :)  Now I have about a month to convince my husband that this is what we should be watching on Friday nights! ;)

Did you watch the first series?

You lucky things ;D you haven't seen it yet and aren't agonisingly awaiting the next series (and the new blue suit :rofl:), if you have any hesitation about the new doctor... just remember it's Barty Crouch Jr ;D and he's EXCELLENT.

I always wonder what America makes of Dr Who though, it's so hands on and non-sensical :rofl: not to mention the scuffed look of the 'ship', it's not like the clean lines and high tech stuff of Star Trek, but it is very juicy. Is it popular over there?

For instance, I won't give too much away but in the final episode the Dr has a pair of 3-D specs... are they high tech 3D specs? Nope they are just those cardboard things we all had in the late 80s/early 90s with one red lens and one green one  :rofl: he did discover something very clever using them though *looks impressed*

Thats a good point Roz, I am currently doing a 4000 word assignment on Dr Who and Star Trek wondering about such things like that.

Although the Tv film wasn't so British :-\ (and easily forgotten too  ::) )

I confess I haven't seen the TV film.

I mean compare the look of the cybermen to the look of that i Robot film - the Will Smith one? I didn't see the film but saw the trailers etc and the Robots looked so impressive.

Of course Dr Who doesn't have a blockbuster sized budget for each episode, although it must have a fairly big budget as there's plenty of money made out of it. When i first saw the cybermen I wasn't all that impressed, but the more I saw the more I liked (and was scared) not to mention that the iRobot robots were all CG and so it was easy to get them in synch marching, whereas the cybermen were real. Thankfully they were all Welsh and as you know all Welsh folk have a better sense of rhythm than the English (stands back and awaits fireworks - well think of the fab Welsh male voice choirs).

You might have to! ;)  I didn't see much of the first series, but I'd like to catch at least a few episodes of this one.

I don't know how well the new show has been received in the US, but if Sci Fi is carrying it, there must be an audience.  I used to watch the original show when I was a kid.  My brother, the kids in the neighborhood, and I used to run around outside pretending we were Dr. Who (which isn't saying much, since we also used to play pretend we were Evel Knievel and the characters from Planet of the Apes ::) ).  It was carried on PBS, which is a public, non-profit organization with TV programming in every state.  It specializes in educational shows, but I watched both Dr. Who and Monty Python on our local station.  I also used to watch a show called Doctor in the House, or something like that.

Yeah some one must be watching it. I think I may have converted Anna with my co written stories ;D

I loved Dr who the first time around, and used to play it. We had this garden table that was round and made great central controls for the TARDIS. I watched a very old episode yesterday for my studies (doctor one it was that old), and it makes it look very hi tech these days. For goodness sake that Daleks didn't even have breaks ::) Being made by the BBC there will be a limited budget, we wouldn't be happy if they put it up further to pay for dr who lol. Thats my trouble with the licence fee, its a lot of money to pay with no choice. But I do like lots of things that the BBC do which they couldn't otherwise anyway back to what we were talking about. Call me biast but I do like the tenth doctor better than the ninth. But you'll be able to decide when you see the new series ;D

Interesting fact, when I was at the Dr who talk at the Film and comic con. They asked the actors who there favourite dr was. Many said Tom Baker who is one of the longest running drs and also one of the best loved, but there was also many for David. With one saying he may soon change from Tom to David. Which is great that the new doctor seems to have gone down so well, at least with his colleagues ;D Although a little girl we had in the shop the other day likes number ten best  ;D (although she only has the choice of two lol)

Monty Python is good but very weird, and doctor in the house too ay  :-\

For those of you who haven't read Dawn and Toms' stories, you're missing out.  I've read the first two episodes and am now reading their third one. ;D

That's really odd - I wonder why it didn't go to a BBC America-related channel? Probably that new fangled concept of 'highest bidder' that often passes me by :rofl:

Well they probably paid the money and it does suit the scifi channel well ;D

There will be a bigger audience for it on Sci Fi Channel.  More people have it with their cable subscriptions than BBC America.

David Tenant did an excellent job as the new doctor. I enjoyed both the episodes they gave us and it was just as good as the last season in my opinion with the other doctor :)

I also saw an advertisement stating that the second season will be out on DVD in the US in January :) Now I have to get Stargate Atlantis season 2 and Dr. Who season 2 then  :o ;D

Yay glad you like him, I kinda do ;) We get the DVDs in bits, about two episodes on each disc and now they are selling the full lot. They have a great set on Amazon with a monsters head on the box.

It was a lot of fun watching this new doctor. I can remember a few of the other doctors from years ago (and I do mean years ago  :-[) when they were on late night and I have to say that I really think that David Tenant is a great addition to the many faces of the doctor  ;D

I hate it when they sell the shows only a couple at a time so I was very happy to see that it would be the complete season of Dr. Who for season 2. My sci fi television collection first was SG1 then SGA and now it's Supernatural and the new Doctor. Who  :o They keep getting bigger and bigger   :o ;D

I am looking forward to next weeks new episode of Doctor Who because the first two were definitely not disapointing  ;D

I just love how the Doctor enjoys every strange thing he encounters. It is nice to watch a sci fi show were the good guy doesn't get sucked into a kind of depression because all the bad stuff he encounters.

It is a nice lighthearted sci fi show that I can enjoy and laugh at sometimes. I guess now I can see why they put it up with Battlestar Galactica, this show got to be to much for me so I gave up on it myself but I will definitely be watching the Doctor.

Yeah, ;D The good thing too is that the Doctor is against volience whenever possible, you saw his reaction at the end of the Christmas one when the PM blew it up.

I loved his reaction to her blowing the ship up because I was thinking the exact same thing he was at the time. It was also a shame becuase I liked the character who played the PM  in the episode of Doctor Who back in season 1. I was glad he did what he did because she did that  ;D

My memory is a little hazy I really should watch it again as I haven't seen it since last christmas, although I have got it on tape.

That does remind me I have to look on Amazon and see of they have Doctor Who season 1 available and for how much  :-\  ;D I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself  :)

I will just have to do what I am doing with seasons 3 and 4 of CSI Las Vegas and watch for it to become a little cheaper  :) Thank goodness season 9 of SG1 isn't as expensive as these ones are  ::)

It's not a bad price for that many episodes plus the special features (which I love on DVD's) except Christmas is coming just around the corner so that makes it a bit harder  :)

Wendi I am sure you will, but you must watch the Werewolf episode really carefully.  Things that have happened in series one and will happen later in series two are tied every closely to this episode  ^-^.  My lips are now sealed  :-X
