I really think that the sketch cards in this set are amazing.  All of them are good.  Not an orc helmet in the bunch!

Wow!  Some gorgeous stuff!

Um, but is there any way those large scans could be resized???  I couldn't load this thread at home because my dial-up account kept timing out & it took a VERY LONG time to load when I was at work (with an ISDN line - yes I realize that 3 minutes is quick, but not with an ISDN line)...

Hi Gimli,
Have you noticed that Henderson sometimes forgets to put his "CH" on his sketches? Thankfully he alsways seems to remember to number them.
I wonder how many he did? Considering the quantity it's great that they are of such a nice quality. ***Not wanting to say negative things about other sets.***

The Chris Henderson sketches are easy to identify if he didn't sign them as his cards have his name printed on the back

John, you would need to resize the scans using some type of graphics program, like Adobe PhotoShop Elements.  If you don't have a graphics program, you can re-size the scans using Paint.  You would change the image size using Attributes (under Image menu).

You can also resize in Photobucket, but you have to do each picture individually.  Click on the "edit" button above each photo and you can choose to reduce the picture to 75, 50, or 25 percent of the original size.  Once you resize, you can't restore the original size unless you upload the original picture/scan from your computer.

Ooooh, I learned something new today. ;D  I didn't know you could change the sizes of the pictures in PhotoBucket. :o  If John used PhotoShop, he would have to change all the scans individually anyways, plus he'd have to upload all the new re-sized scans.  Your way would save him a lot of time. ;D

: Re: WOZ Sketches
: kbmum June 10, 2006, 05:06:55 AM
I only figured it out when I was having problems with the size of pictures in my auctions.  After you resize the picture(s), you have to refresh your browser and the page or auction with the links in order for the changes to take effect.  I don't know why, but that's what happens with me.

I am going to do that. I was afraid it would cancel the link, but i gues that only happens if you move images from album to album.

ALL RESIZED. Better?

: Re: WOZ Sketches

It won't cancel the link.  I do this all the time.  But, you could test it out with just one image and see what happens.

That's an excellent case!  You pulled five props, the large brick prop that's 1 in 20 cases, five autos (even with repeats, that's still excellent) and a good selection of sketches!  I  would have been thrilled with a case like that.

: Re: WOZ Sketches (Resizing Completed - It's comcastic)
: iwozframed June 17, 2006, 06:14:34 PM
Sorry kbmum

Don't want to sound like I'm complaining, because I'm not it's a fantastic set ;D

What was really trying to say is that autos as stated on the pack were 1:960 packs
So as you can imagine i was really happy when I pulled one, stunned to pull a second but on the third I just got the feeling that I was just getting the same thing rather than something different or that the odds weren't quite as stated.

It was just a knee jerk reaction I pulled the giant brick road out of the case, then a normal brick road and a colour RAM, next box brick road type 2 and a colour KONG

After that it just felt I was pulling HENDERSON sketches and Jerry Maren autos.

Im delighted with the set and look forward to adding to it!  ;D

Well, you did pull a lot of Henderson sketches.  They're still nice, though. :)  If the autos are 1:960 packs, and there are 480 packs in a case, then I think you got very lucky and a few other cases were shorted autos.  At least you have some spares to sell or trade so you can get sketches from other artists. :)

The more I look at it the happier I am

I've got a sale/trade

Brick road
Jerry Maren x2
Plus all usual chase/base sets

And of course I did get 7 colour sketches to 5 B/W

It was just the way they came out all together.

Sorry miss remembered:
                                Autos are 1:240 packs
Scarecrow and lion are 1:960 (Which I got both of)

So, we opened our box.  Got three full sets, the proper amount of foils...inlcuding Before and After number 1 ;D

Only one card in the box though, a black and white sketch.  I started to jump up and down when I saw it, as it is the ONE pencil sketch I really wanted but never thought I would get :o

Iwozframed - I'm so glad you got one of my colored cards!  It makes me happy to see people enjoying the cards!

I have to say that Breygent is to be commended for their treatment of the artists also.  Well for me anyways.  Tom was nothing more than professional on all accounts.

I was soooo pleased to get one of your cards Rich

Not only because I think your work is fantastic, But when you use it for your avatar that just makes it a little bit more special for me.  8)

If this sounds a bit too grovelly it's because I'm saving for a commission

Hi Gimli,
Have you noticed that Henderson sometimes forgets to put his "CH" on his sketches? Thankfully he alsways seems to remember to number them.
I wonder how many he did? Considering the quantity it's great that they are of such a nice quality. ***Not wanting to say negative things about other sets.***
It was a nice touch that Chris usually numbered the sketches in each image type.

As to numbers, it wasn't totally scientific, but I did a search of completed eBay auctions and counted the totals of all of them that listed the artist's' name in the auction description. A few of the artists seem to be quite scarce, but some of that might be due to signatures that the seller couldn't decipher. The artist wasn't named in a lot of the descriptions.

37 - Auck
  5 - Babbitt
18 - Chandler
39 - Czop
25 - De Liz
44 - Dillon
14 - Ecklund
37 - Engstrom
314 - Henderson
  9 - Hickman
25 - Hodges
57 - Kong
53 - Kraiger
36 - Martineck
46 - Molinelli
17 - Rosenberger
41 - Ross
31 - Staggs
34 - Winters
  8 - Zsolnai

This might suggest that Chris did a pretty good fraction of the total sketches. I don't know where such talent comes from, I certainly didn't inherit it ...

What's really fantastic about Chris' sketches is that most of them are great, some fantastic and none of them, absolutely none, dip to the level of a doodle as seen in an unfortunate lot of the LOTR EVO sketches.

I've been able to only get a few of these... I've gotten half of them in :D

Once I get the others in I'll still need to get a Dorothy & perhaps a few others to round out my little collection...

I finally  scanned some of the sketches I've picked up over the past few weeks. ::)  My absolute favorite is the Darla Ecklund sketch of Glinda. :D  I wish the scan did it justice, because it's really very detailed.  I love the eyes.

Has anyone had a sealed box which contained only regular cards and the standard quantity of Wicked Witch, Toto, and foil puzzle cards? No sketchcard, or anything else! The box in question came from a sealed case.

I can't recall hearing about dud boxes for this product, but if you send an email to the manufacturer, they might be able help you. :)

I sent them an email just before posting the previous question. I will post the response if any.

Update on the dud....

I sent an email off to Brygent.....and I am to be sent a sketch card. It does not matter which one except I am hoping for no duplcate of the ones I already have.

Here is the breakdown of my case:
Box #4215      - 1x sketch
Box #3733      - 1x sketch, YBS1, JM1
Box #0092      - 1x sketch, HCLS
Box #4704      - B&A1, 1x sketch (cardboard insert)
Box #2051      - MC1, 1x sketch
Box #3409      - B&A2, 2x sketches
Box #0938      - JM2, 1x sketch
Box #3234      - 1x sketch
Box #2420      - YBS2, KS, 1x sketch
Box #3839      - 1x sketch
Box #0079      - 1x sketch
Box #3862      - none

Total 12 sketches, 3 prop/costume cards

Actually from a case point of view, this case had a nice balance of cards, all the muchkin autos, a set of B&A, both Yellow brick cards.
If you are wondering about the "cardboard insert", Tom said it is inserted to prevent searching of boxes. My guess if one is searching for "cut" autos and if there is one of these in every case, since the "cuts" are oversized, it may just work.

: Re: WOZ Sketches
: allender July 26, 2006, 04:47:16 PM
Probably the absent cards from the "dud" box showed up in another box, though not necessarily in that case. I just got two boxes but they were consecutively numbered, and one had 41 packs and the other one had 39 packs. The "short" box actually was the best one, with a sketch, an auto, and a Lion Hair with 8 lower chase. Since you had one two-sketch box, its numerical "sister" might have been another dud.

Hello,

I'm sorry for not replying to the e-mails asking about the Wizard of Oz sketch cards.

For the record - yes. I only did one of each scene except for one cards (however, one was in pencil and the other in ink - and they were the same scene except that one had 3 characters in the globe, the other had all four. - so I guess you could say they were different) I only did 65 cards.

I have been busy working as the artist for an independent film (concept and scene artist). Now I begin the Lord of the Rings sketch cards for Topps.

I hope that answers everyones question. Thanks to all of you for your comments and support in buying the cards.

cheers,

Chuck "THE HUN" Zsolnai

I did get a dud box out of 60 that I opened. But in fairness, I did get a box with two sketches.
I think the collation on this set was great. A lot better than some we could mention.

If anyone wants WOZ I have some listed on ebay ID: johnwmartin, in my store.

I count myself lucky to have a HUN sketch. I posted it on page one. It's Glinda.

I sold the box that had the Judy Garland 10 of 10 cut signature card. Oh well, such is luck.  ;D

Wow, Chuck! I didn't realize how lucky I was to pick up one of your sketches from just two opened boxes.

I guess I need to share: ;D

Aaaw, what an adorable Toto sketch! ;D  Great pull Jeff! ;D  Unfortunately I didn't pull one of Chuck's sketches, so I got this one off of eBay.

: THE HUN July 30, 2006, 07:56:42 PM
Thanks a bunch guys ! I'm glad that these are getting to people who like them. I tried to make each card as if I was the one pulling them from a pack. I certainly understand artist doing several of the same sketch (its more money). I have a hard time repeating my work.

I only did 4 different Toto cards including one with Dorthy. And the witch holding the hour glass has to be one of my favorites (for whatever reason). If I had more time I would have done a card of just the hour glass ... its such a cool looking object of art. (I like objects / props - I did one medal of courage and one of the tin man's heart watch) BTW - the hourglass was reused in different movies later on. Hollywood often reused props .. I wonder where it is today ?

Well, that's my 10 minutes of free time ... so its back to drawing LORD of The RINGS cards ...

cheers,

THE HUN

The hourglass is (last time i heard mention of) part of the The Willard Carroll Collection, a collection of thousands of Oz items, memorbilia etc.
I have no idea if it is on display anywhere.
