: Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : Roz July 16, 2004, 02:50:45 PM : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ferdinand_the_yak July 16, 2004, 03:05:41 PM Looks promising. Not sure I like 'trilogy' below the LOTR logo, it looks slightly tacky - I would prefer the title from the movie the specific cards came from. But then I guess it would be confusing them with the previous 3 releases.
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : savage727 July 17, 2004, 08:29:36 PM What are these people talking about on the link you provided Roz? For the first time inclusion of autograph cards! Where have they been the last 3 years! The same for the statement about memorabilia cards! Gee what lousy info from this site! Not your fault Roz! :)
They are saying all new images from the 3 movies. I hope that statement is correct and that Topps is not going to recycle images from the prior sets and just Foil them. I think you are correct FTY about why The Trilogy wording is going to appear on the cards. : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ferdinand_the_yak July 21, 2004, 02:15:30 PM : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 21, 2004, 03:11:39 PM Ooh look - the card is already signed!
And they are portrait rather than landscape! Does anyone else have the sell sheet in a larger pic anywhere - it's too hard to squint! : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 21, 2004, 03:14:11 PM Ooh the lucky things have the sell sheet already - if anyone sees one can they let me know - I love sell sheets :) [and this guy on ebay doesn't take paypal - which is no good for non American folk]

And they are portrait rather than landscape! Does anyone else have the sell sheet in a larger pic anywhere - it's too hard to squint! I know I'm getting on a bit & my eyes aint what they used to be, but does the bottom line of the 2nd pic say - "Special inserts include Chromagraphs & Chromabilia cards" ? Does that suggest something slightly different to what we are used to or is it just using the terminology because it's a chrome set ? CJD : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ferdinand_the_yak July 21, 2004, 05:04:16 PM Its not your eyes... anyone with perfect vision could not see that properly. From what I can make out, it says 'chromographs and chromabilia cards'
From the card pics on the box, it seems that the auto cards will at least be different. What do you think about the Elrond card behind the Aragorn one? It does not look like a base card (they have lettering on the bottom of the card and the LOTR logo isn't on any of the base cards. Am I getting my hopes up too high thinking it may be an Elrond auto card? The signing space looks too small though :P : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : cjdmadcow July 21, 2004, 06:06:35 PM Have a look at this articel :
http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=lotrnews2.setup&category=lotr&topic=5&show_article=151 CJD Hmmmm, something odd here, lets try again : http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=lotrnews2.setup&category=lotr&topic=5&show_article=151 Why don't I just post the article instead ! Editor and Project Manager Matt Saunders of Topps says, “We’re actually doing a trilogy set next. That’s actually in the works now. It ships at the end of September, so it’ll be coming out in early October. It’s going to be all with chrome cards, kind of like the ‘”Star Wars” Chrome Archives.’ It’s the same kind of technology. It’s going to be all-new imagery. There’s a ton of imagery that still hasn’t been shown on cards, so we’re going to make use of it all and give the fans an extra bang for their buck by printing it all on chrome, too." This will be an extensive presentation. According to Saunders, "Right now, it's looking to be 100 cards, so you get about 33 per movie, and then a final checklist/title card... It makes sense that if you've got three movies, you've got to give them equal play.". Imagery from the "Special Extended Editions" of the films, released on home video, will also be included. "Yeah, definitely (cards for) the first two movies will have shots from the special editions, and we're hoping to have it for 'Return of the King.' We just don't have it in hand yet. That's not a locked-in thing at this moment." As for the text, Saunders admits, "It's just going to be a plot summary, probably." Merchandise for each of the three movies has been color-coded: Green for "The Fellowship of the Ring," red for "The Two Towers," and blue for "Return of the King." Asked if the borders of these cards will continue this tradition, Saunders replies, "We've done all new designs for this set, so you won't be seeing the designs from the past, and each movie has its own design for the back. There are certain elements that are in the same place, but the designs and the colors and the patterns and other elements that are used are all brand-new. The positioning of where the image box is on the back, and where the text is -- the skeleton --is the same, but then the design elements that flesh all that out are unique for each movie. So, there are three design backs, one for 'Fellowship,' one for 'The Two Towers,' one for 'Return of the King.' "I think it's just nice to have that. Each movie has its own feel and look, so we're kind of continuing that theme within this set." One feature that will not be continued from previous "L.O.T.R." card releases is gold foil stamping. Saunders says, "With chrome, you don't need to add a foil stamp on top of it." On the other hand, there will once again be randomly-inserted chase cards. "We're looking at autographs and relic cards again. At this point, it's kind of the fourth go 'round, so we'll have to see who's interested, but everyone from the films is fair game, whereas for 'Return of the King,' we couldn't really pursue (actor) Sean Bean, for example, because (his character) Boromir wasn't in that movie. But he's part of the whole trilogy, so he's fair game. We're gonna try to get a few people that hadn't signed before, but nothing's in place at this point, so I can't really speak to who's in or who's out. We'll see who's interested. "A lot of the guys have a great passion for ("The Lord of the Rings")and the experience (of making the motion pictures) still and they love to do this stuff. Other ones have wanted to move on, so we'll see who's available when the time comes." Asked whether Topps might approach some of the behind-the scenes people, the crew and artists who helped bring "L.O.T.R." to the screen, Saunders replies, "Yeah, they're all possibilities." He added that he already has costumes which will be cut up and applied to relic cards, but declined to name which items are being used. Reflecting upon the "Lord of the Rings" trading card project overall, he says, "I think we were able to put out really good card sets of really high quality. It's for the fans to judge, not for me, but I hope they felt they were a high-quality compliment to the films which captured the spirit of the films in the designs and the look. "Nothing's ever going to replace the actual films themselves but we're just hoping to make a nice supplement to it, to (let collectors) remember the experience. I think we did great work. It's hard not to when you're given such great (source material) to begin with. The quality that (director) Peter Jackson and everyone put into the films, when you're given something of that caliber, it's hard to do it wrong. You have to work hard to mess it up in the presentation. I just hope the fans agree we did a good job." : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 21, 2004, 06:59:07 PM i think this set looks brill and a really good change from the other format.for looking at the Elrond card i think that that may be the layout for the costume cards as i doubt its a base set or something like that but i could be wrong.the auto cards look good though ,this time i shall get a case maybe two as it looks good
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : savage727 July 21, 2004, 08:25:42 PM Well Roz - the images you posted show a Sala Baker Auto Card for Sauron!!! Finally!!! 8)
Thanks CJD for posting the article! :) : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ztaylork July 21, 2004, 08:25:50 PM The Sala Baker Sauron autograph looks great!!! I am so excited for this set!!
ztaylork : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 21, 2004, 08:34:41 PM does anyone have a larger copy of it as i can barely make out the writing
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 21, 2004, 08:47:16 PM We are working on it Saruman!
Agent Dayhiker - get out to your card shop, and the same goes for you Agent Goofyjas :P Shouldn't your young eyes be the best for this huh? : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 21, 2004, 11:15:06 PM sounds good. ;D
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 22, 2004, 01:47:30 AM See above we now have a better pic.
You can see under the Elrond that it's a "chromabilia" - typical - we wait all this time for a Clothing from Elrond and then 2 come along at once! ::) : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Goofyjas July 22, 2004, 03:01:00 AM Roz you want a sell sheet?
Just wait because with the rotku i ordered they sent one with the order, wasnt to great when it got her ebut they sent one :P : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ferdinand_the_yak July 22, 2004, 12:56:58 PM Awww.... man, I just got my Elrond costume from gimli and now theres another???? What about Legolas or Gimli?
*Sighs* :-\ : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 22, 2004, 06:48:38 PM thanks for the bigger pic, this set looks cool .imagine if there was an auto and a memo card(with movie used costume) in every box, that would make it the greatest set ever but i know it will only be one card per box .........aw well i can dream
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : savage727 July 22, 2004, 06:49:15 PM All we can do FTY is shake our fists in the general direction of Topps!! ;) It figures doesn't it about the Elrond Clothing card! :P
I am holding my breath on who is signing the Auto cards. The Sauron card is very encouraging! :) And wouldn't it be grand this time around if all the Autos and Clothing cards had the same odds of distribution so the fans would have a chance this last time around instead of the "select few" who get everything! ;) : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : ferdinand_the_yak July 22, 2004, 09:14:48 PM It would be good if the 'rare' card in this set was one that was worth getting. By that I mean getting a decently signed card for your money. I cringed when people handed over $1500+ for a FoTR Merry that had little more than a blue squiggle on it. Same goes for PJ's ROTK autos and Sean Bean's 'SB' effort in TTU. I was happy with paying a bit more for Eowyn in TT because Miranda's signature was great. Same with my FOTR and TT Legolas. Yeah these autos are more expensive due to their rarity, but at least I felt I got what I paid for. I would not pay for a FOTR Merry or ROTK PJ, no way. Not from the looks of the autos :P
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : gimli July 22, 2004, 10:35:01 PM this set looks good shame there is no ring design on the auto. I thought it was the most important part of the design on the last ones but at least it means that it is not a continuation of the other sets.
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 23, 2004, 05:21:14 AM Hmm as it turns out THIS time the P3 promo is a san diego comic con one! NOT a Wizard mag one... how odd!
Thankfully (I believe) san diego comic con stuff is usually plentiful so we shouldn't have trouble getting hold of them (http://img77.photobucket.com/albums/v235/Roz_qmw/Topps%20Trilogy%20Set/con_lotrcard.jpg) What a great choice of image :) : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 23, 2004, 05:27:37 AM can any one help me in getting any of the promos as i can get none in ireland
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 23, 2004, 05:28:54 AM I can only find one on ebay:

thanks for the help though Roz ;D : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 23, 2004, 05:36:07 AM Oh ok sorry about that!
I'll be on the look out for them on and off ebay though, I'd like one and I know Ben would appreciate one even though he doesn't get to come online very much at the moment (well not for the next 2 months). I just have never seen a Star Wars crome card so I really have no idea what they look like, I can't wait to see one. Anyone had any luck sourcing the P1 promo? I could also do with a sell sheet - I like to pop one at the front of our binders... we also need them for FOTR update and ROTK update if anyone is on a roll and wants to sell in bulk :P Thanks : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 23, 2004, 05:41:09 AM ya i'm the same .i haven't seen any chrome card and am really curious about them.i am also after P1 promo. so any help would be great and i think i have a ROTK update promo here somewhere although it could just be ROTK but i will give a good look and let you know.
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : beckham1 July 23, 2004, 11:51:57 AM ya i'm the same .i haven't seen any chrome card and am really curious about them.i am also after P1 promo. so any help would be great and i think i have a ROTK update promo here somewhere although it could just be ROTK but i will give a good look and let you know. The chrome concept comes from the sports releases from Topps. I have been collecting sports cards for the last couple years and have a few Topps Chrome Hockey cards. If anyone wants I can post scans of a few of the Chromographs (they are hockey auto's) and I think I have a chromobilia card or two (I will have to check on that), but if anyone really wants to see what they will most likely look like let me know and I will try to post. The Chrome cards scan pretty crappy though FYI, they are nice card stock and nice surfaces for auto's but again they scan poorly. Anyways let me know and I will try to post some examples if anyone want me to. ;D : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Roz July 23, 2004, 02:57:16 PM Thanks for the help there... I guess we have to wait until we get the promo cards in hand really
:) Look a buy it now for $4.99 I wonder if anyone's selling more than one, generally US sellers like to charge a lot for postage so if I could get one for Ben at the same time that would be handy :) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60246&item=6109735231&rd=1 : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : Goofyjas July 23, 2004, 07:54:25 PM Roz,
I have a ROTKu sell sheet for you, also a P1 promo, I will get one for Ben if you like. So cross them off your list I will mail them out with your CD and costume card :) I will try to get P3 for ya also if i can I will know on monday! If anyone else needs one let me know. I had to buy a magazine for mine 4.50 :( but the owner comes back from the comic con on monday and will let me know what he can do for me. : Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : saruman July 24, 2004, 12:00:56 AM hey any chance of getting me a sell sheet or any of the promos goofyjas
: Re:Trilogy info (not too reliable) : savage727 July 26, 2004, 06:53:25 AM Both the P1 and P3 Promo cards are starting to pop up like wildfire on eBay so there will be plenty to go around.

May I be so bold as to ask if you would mind sending me a copy of the sell sheet by email. Please ? Mmmm, two more Eowyn including another Golden Hall card, along with another Witch-king card ? Not too sure about the wisdom of that. Otherwise, thanks for the info Roz CJD : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : Roz July 26, 2004, 10:42:16 PM May I be so bold as to ask if you would mind sending me a copy of the sell sheet by email. Please ? PDF sent - but it does download ok doesn't it? Anyone else had problems? I know this can't be the final list - we already have witchking robes and Eowyn's golden hall dresses but it's more info than we have ever had before at this stage, it's amazing! ;D : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : dayhiker July 26, 2004, 11:13:34 PM guys, more info to add to the new trilogy set:
they have sent request for the stars to sign for autographs. so far only theoden and arwen have responded. no legolas theoden or gimli costumes as they did not receive any costumes to use. ed : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : Roz July 26, 2004, 11:21:00 PM Very excited about Bernard Hill (apparently he's going to the Fellowship Festival too - grrr!) and arwen again :'( But I wish they were getting info on Wormtongue, Treeebeard, etc etc
I presume Sala has responded too by the look of the sell sheet :P Or do we have a repeat of the TT sell sheet (where you can see the Gandalf the white auto)... though in all fairness to topps the sell sheet showed an unsigned card! : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : savage727 July 27, 2004, 08:30:23 AM Nice job Roz! :)
Well with 9 Clothing cards in this set how many Auto Cards do you figure will be included? I am guessing 3 or 4. It looks like there is a Sauron card and possibly a Theoden and Arwen so far by what we have seen on promotional material and what other people have added. With the repeats of the Eowyn Golden Hall Party Dress and The Witch-King I am not too excited about this set other than the hoped to be 100 new images for the chrome cards. : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : MakTheYak July 27, 2004, 09:13:05 AM With the repeats of the Eowyn Golden Hall Party Dress and The Witch-King I am not too excited about this set I don't think they will be direct repeats. I think that there's been a mix up there! But all the other info is pretty comprehensive huh? As topps' disclaimer says they reserve the right to change things, let's hope they do! : Re:Trilogy info (now much more reliable) : savage727 July 27, 2004, 09:21:47 AM Hey Big Guy - what are you doing up at this time of the night/morning.
