Well I saw the lastest X Men today and I don't care what any of the critics say, I thought it was the best one yet  ;D  Right from the very start there were tons of little nods to the comics which would not confuse the non-reader.  The effects are amazing but this is par for the course these days and the acting is excellent.  They tried to cram in lots of new characters, in fact a lot of those in the credits I didn't even notice (anyone spot Psylocke  :-\ ) but it was nice to think they had read a comic first.  Stan Lee appears early on in the film so keep your eyes peeled.

There are some niggling little bits that bugged me - Colossus is no longer Russian and Moira had a distinctly American accent for her few lines.  The whole Phoenix concept has changed but this was probably necessary so that everyone could enjoy the film without knowing the comics.

But from Hanks ' Stars and Garters ' to Wolverines fastball special, from the young Charles and Eric to Storm finally controlling the weather this is a must see film.  I really hope that more films are made and that this director gets to make them all  ;D.

Oh and one really important thing.  You simply must stay in your seat when the film ends.  Sit through all the credits, right to the very, very end.  You won't be disappointed  >:D

I liked it a lot too, the effects, the actors/characters (Wolverine rules as he should ^-^, Beast was awesome, and so was Angel, Mystique and Sir Ian McKellen) and the plot overall was ok to me.

Too many things (character-wise) happen in this one though and I still don't know if that was a good or a bad thing. I would have probably loved it if I wasn't a Cyclops fans and if they had given us more Angel/Archangel/Death. He's strangely underrated :(.

Edit: Now I'm curious as to what was at the end of the credits. I'll have to go watch it again :P.

I haven't seen this film yet, but I have been muddling through all the mixed reviews.  Though I did hear awhile back that after Patrick Steward read through the script for the first time, he proclaimed it the best plot by far of the three films.

However, I am a little disconserted considering some of your comments.  I still can't understand why studios will put in little details for the 'fanboys' but then miss out on the big time realizations - such as a Russian Colossus.  The deletion of his nationality destroys the character as far as I'm concerned.  Going into movies such as this, I just always hope that the studios don't sacrifice TOO much for the sake of the average, uninformed moviegoer.

I have kept up with the trailers pretty well and have mixed feelings.  I really did not like the discourse between Storm and Wolverine in the scene where she just B and moans toward him.  The scene is just filled with Storm complaining and crying (ie: not being a very effective leader) and then the rest of the xmen team just standing around and watching.  Now I've never been a big fan of Storm, and admittedly, Wolverine is the epitome of a loner and really does not follow the 'teamwork' mentality.  So I can understand the utility of this scene.  But just the way it ends...

Why does Storm keep yelling at Wolverine (she says his name at least 8 times in about 2 min).  She spends so much time worrying about him, that she neglects instructions for the other team members.  So Wolverine throws out a bad ass combo with Colossus - fastball special style - and how does Storm respond?  She complains that Wolverine needs to learn teamwork.  Did I miss something here?  I always thought the fastball special was the epitome of teamwork??  :P

Ok, dont mean to sound like I'm ranting and raving.  But these small trailers are all I have to go on as far as my impressions.  I'm sure once I catch the full movie I'll be able to make a much less caustic criticism  >:D

When you see the film all will be explained  ^-^ ;D.  Yes the trailer does throw in a lot of red herrings but once you see the film you will understand why.

I am totally with you on the Colossus front.  For the sake of one little accent a lot of people would have been very happy.  Same goes for Moira who, unless my hearing is going, is definitely not Scottish.  There are a few other niggles that I can't mention as it would spoil the film for others.  But quite frankly they are just that - little niggles.  This is an excellent film and it is beyond me why it is getting such bad reviews  :-\

I haven't seen this film yet but I loved the last 2,have never been much of a comic reader yet the films that appeal to me at moment are all comic book heroes,guess as they are all worldwide institutions of their own now iconic figures,escapism. I agree the director has a great eye for keeping as close to the comic background as possible(as he should),let's hope his other new film Superman Returns is as good ,though saying that the trailers I have seen for both films just look stunning and wicked rollercoaster rides of excitement and special effects and good stories,but keeping true to who and why they are who they are(comic wise) is important!!

Sharon, Psylocke is pretty hard to spot, but it can be done. During the battle on Alcatraz, of the three mutants who go after Warren Worthington II, the is the guy with the quills all over his face (who is called Kid Omega despite being nothing like the comic character of that name), Arclight (the gal who clapped a thunderwave and broke all the plastic guns), and another gal with a little purple in her hair...yep, that's all of Psylocke folks. :) I don't know about the best of the lot, but it was fun, and I'm gald they weren't afraid to kill people off, though

that is kind of negated for one of the supposedly killed off character by the scene after the credits are over. I had advanced warning to stay for a scene after the credits, so I did, and to be honest, what it was didn't surprise me to much, given the history of the comics. Oh, and despite its cheesy-ness, I for some reason really liked the scene between Juggernaut and Shadowkat where she pulls him into the floor, and he had a "witty"  ::) retort for her. Heh, t'was a tad funny.

Paul this X Men had a different director.  It was Brett Ratner who I must admit I have never heard of.  As I understand it Bryan Singer didn't want to do another X Men - I am not sure if it was because he wanted to do Superman or that he was just fed up with X Men.  I saw the Superman preview and even though I didn't fancy the film before I am now warming to the idea.

Oh interesting thing for people to look out for.  When Wolverine is battling the Phoenix she is chucking everything at him.  His clothes and skin start to disintigrate but his trousers stay intact  :rofl:.  I never knew Hugh was so modest  :rofl:

Saw this one yesterday with my wife and we thoroughly enjoyed it!  :)  Loved the scene after the credits too and thanks to the Yak Shackers who told us about it!!  :)   Can someone say sequel?   :)

wish id known that...just got back from seeing the movie, but made a quick exit after having to sit next to the smelliest man in existance  :-X

Firstly, i loved this movie - everything about it!! It finsihed a little too quickly, and some lines were cheesy, but hey, what movie doesn't have cheesy one-liners nowadays?? I still prefer X2.. but boy was X3 brilliant!!

No one mentioend in addition to all the other great little comics tidbits that appear inthe  movie - the fact that Iceman finally goes all popsiscle on us - i loved that bit!!

It was indeed a shame about Colossus' accent, but hey, he had an American accent in X2 also....

Urm, if memory serves right, the girl withthe Purple hair, seemed to appear out of nowhere, like perhaps she teleported or was invisible.... i didn't realise Psylche had this power?!?!

I must say i really enjoyed watching juggernaut... the costume was not nearly as bad as i thought it looked in the trailer, and he filled the role nicely!!

i missed the character name which Magneto blurted out askign to destroy all the plastic weapons - but while looking through my fleer x-men cards yesterday, i thought it might have been Rictor. Hell i didn't even notice the character was a girl - ooops!!

Archangel would have been a worthy addition to the movie, but seeing as Warren was only introduced in this one, it would have been a little difficult - i say bring on another movie which features Apocalypse :)

Hell i waited three movies to see Rogue absorb Ms Marvels powers of Strength and flight - only to be dissapointed :( never mind!!

Brett directed all the Rush Hour Movies, Prison Break Pilot Episode, Red Dragon,  and a whole lot of other stuff :)

I totally agree with you Rupt about Juggernaut, he was fantastic.  And I now feel a little guilty because I was one of those saying how awful he was in the trailers.  Just goes to show I should wait for the film  ;D


The only thing that could make this more perfect would be for Rogue to absorb the powers then turn around and bump straight into Keanu Reeves as Gambit  ;D ;D ;D

One question though - with every Marvel hero/villain under the sun making a guest appearance in this film where was Nightcrawler  :'(

Arclight. Can't say I heard of her before the movie, but that was Arclight :)

I don't know why Nightcrawlers wasn't in it (but I swore I saw someone pop on-screen in a blue cloud of smoke ::) ) But the makers of the video game says it explains why he isn't in it. I've played it and finished it and in the last cut scene Nightcrawler said its not his kind of life style. The game also give you a little snippet of the beginning of the movie but it different the the film.

I'm going to see this movie tonight.  I've seen the first 2 movies, but have to admit that I'm pretty much clueless about the X-men.  I never read any of the comics.  Is there some sort of compilation of the comics that comes in book form?  How can I read about the X-men without buying all kinds of comic books?

There are loads of Graphic novels available Kelly but the X Men are so complicated that you would have to pick a time frame and go with it.  My favourite, golden age for the X Men was when the new crowd (Storm, Wolverine etc) joined.  Or maybe try looking for a Starjammers story or Savage Land.  The artwork on these is my all time favourite and the stories sort of very loosely tie in with the film.  

I saw about Josh Holloway and the Gambit role ....  :-\.  I would still prefer Keanu in a main role  ;D

Sharon, i'm all for Gambit.. one of my fav characers - but Keanu??are you nuts?? Theres no way Keanu could pull off that Gumbo role!!

I went to see the film tonight and i loved it

but it is a shame to get rid of so many charactors

some people actually applauded in the theater i was in and a guy two rows behind me shouted "Iceman's so hot!!!!!!!!!" which totally killed the moment  ::).

I think they are around issue 20 now...the best bet is the trade paperbacks since the first 6 or so issues bring in a good amount of money and are tough to find.

I agree Mike that is a very good price for that one and I would highly recommend it.  The story is fantastic but don't get too hung up on trying to match it with the film - just look at it as an alternate version  ;D  And let me know when you have read it  ;D

A friend lent me a comic book called X Men - I think "Origins" and it was the story behind Wolverine. Very enjoyable it was too, although that is the only X Men comic book I have ever read.

Bogleg, you're a genious!  I think this is probably the way to go for me.  I really wanted to start at the beginning and see the evolution of the series.  It won't be quite the same as having the books in hand, computer reading is never as good as the real thing, but I would never be able to get all the issues anyway.  And this is soooooo much cheaper.  I'm marking it on my wish list for my birthday.  Thanks so much!!!  ;D

Just seen the film at the weekend and thought the story and special effects were outstanding,my favourite performance was beast,Kelsey Grammer was superb and really brought the characters main attributes and characteristics to the fore front. This for me was the best fim yet from the x-men world and although this in the story was the end it has been left on a cliff hanger ending that could be continued,also good to see Iceman become fully powered up in all his ice glory.
