Hey guys, I can scarcely believe that there's no topic for this.

True, Batman is cooler than Superman and would easily win in a fight (*ducks behind the table and waits for a debate*), but I was totally taken by surprise as to how cool the Batman Begins movie was and don't want to miss out again ;D luckily it was still possible to get cases of BB and I did complete my set (eventually :) but it took time.

Cases seem to be 24 packs per box, 8 box case as is pretty usual for Topps these days, but the odds look good (although you KNOW there will be some impossible pulls here).

This is what we know so far, no individual odds, they will probably print them on the packet though:

Hi Roz, I'm tempted. Some good autos there. But will probably give it a miss. Already invested in HP over the next two months and don't really fancy a pair of Brandon Routh's briefs!!

Memorabilia inserts are just too many and I am sure you can get many of them at less than US$10 or even US$5 each on ebay. Just look at what prices the LOTR evolution frodo, pippin and merry's memorabilias are fetching now.

As for the autos, I guess if you want the top autos, you will have to buy cases as I am sure they will be very limited, maybe somewhere along the line of the King Kong set. The rest should be affordable around US$10-20 depending on the characters.

So in other words, no, I won't be getting a case, would definitely be cheaper picking them off one by one on ebay. Besides, have already invested my money on 2 cases of GOFU which I think is a far more worthwhile purchase.

Im getting a case of Superman Returns  :D

3 Auto's and 16 Costumes per case. Can't wait!

There are two things I'm worried about here

I'm worried that with 16 costumes in a case, and 13 costumes to be had, that they're either going to be $10 cards, OR we'll see a lot of some of them and very few of others (ie, not close to a complete set within a case)

I'm worried about the rarity of something like a Kevin Spacey auto - I mean, I remember Daredevil *lol*

On the other hand, I did really well with Batman - completed that set in no time and not too expensively, I might add. My case broke better than most, so I fear I'm due a little cosmic retribution and I'd get the case with 2 autos (and the same auto twice at that!)

Yeah, I gotta agree about the autographs.
Kevin Spacey I think is going to be a TOUGH pull. I cannot imagine him signing to many. Although maybe he is one of those actors that really does enjoy his fans and will not mind signing. I think Spacey and Routh are both going to be tough pulls, i cannot imagine Topps wanting a Superman autograph to be an easy pull.

I really really like the line up of costumes, but the question is, Material used in the making, or the real thing? If it is the real thing beware, I will be in a bidding war with some of you lol.

Superman Briefs will be limited, as Brief arn't that big!

I just hope they wash it first before cutting it up!  ;D

Although they are using the sticker autographs, I do like to look of the autograph cards!

Yep, there using sickers and i think they look pritty kool, they add that extra something to the cards  ;D

Where does one find a complete Checklist for this Set ?.  Is it me, or does the TOPPS website suck ?

Probably on one of the basic cards, Topps website doesn't suck it's just really bad!

Guess this set aint much good, No where near as good as LOST. the NSU card site has almost nothing about this set, so thats gotta tell you something, is it that crap ??
What sort of pulls have people been getting from a box ?, i'm thinking about a case or 2 to sell in Australia, but if the pulls are as bad as the amount of posts about this set, then I wont bother.

The set isn't crap. The only reason the NSU has loads of posts on this set is because people hate the stickers. Each case gets about 16-18 costumes in and 3 - 4 autos.

I case I saw the breakdown for has a Lex auto, Superman and 2 others in it.

I can't wait for my case to arrive!

I too can't wait for this set to be released in the U.K., i have already pre-ordered 1 case and a seperatly sealed hobby box. I'm also thinking of buying the set of 6 Superman Returns Trading Card Collectors Tins which i have read will have 36 exclusive cards per tin plus tim topper card that is different from the main base set and chase cards.
As i'm new to collecting will these be worth buying as an investment please let me know and also what should i expect to pay for a Lex or Superman autocard if i'm not lucky enough in my case to get one prices approx pre and post release of movie?

I know it's very exciting and i know a part of me says we shouldn't as we are going to want to probably go same way with other future collections which needs money and a constant supply.

Is anyone else surprised by the low bids on most of the costume cards?  I just won one for 99 cents. :o  Granted, it isn't one of the Superman costumes, but still, a lot of these cards are selling for less than $10.

Next question:  Does anyone have info about the Lex Luthor coat?  The picture shows a tan/camel coat, but the swatch is off-white.  It looks more like the hat he's wearing.

Like yourself I also have noticed low auction prices on these cards. Lets hope the film meets the hype and does well to insure everyone gets better prices post film release on doubles of cards that may and will probably get in cases.
Hope I dont get too many doubles as we have just ordered a case.

All the cards are "Material used in the making" so that would explain the different colours.

The UK's shipment of Superman Returns has been set back for another month or two. The Collector Zone has the expected release date at now 23/06/2006

I have 2 cases on their way I think I should be ok as the autos arnt that bad and the cases are alot cheaper than the Inkworks and Rittenhouse in relation to their contents.

This set needs a price guide :-\. 4 of the auctions i've seen for Superman's cape describe it as "worn by..".

I didn't know that.  But still, there's a big difference in color here.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the costume cards well at least there is with me :rofl: :rofl:, are they screen used swatches or cuts from costumes that were never used but there as replacements ?

Ps Have also voted in the poll for this to go onto the auction pricing list!!

After a little searching on eBay, some sellers have scans of the backs of the cards.  They say, "genuine material used for the creation of Superman's Cape (or other costume)."  This means the swatches were cut from fabric that was left over after the costumes were made.  It's the same way with Lord of the Rings costume cards by Topps and some of the costumes from HP GOF and GOFU.

I was told by a dealer the release date has been pushed back approx 2 months and Topps havn't given a reason as yet

SUCCESS AT LAST!!!!, due to the updates on the release date for the UK, we decided to take alternative action on this and I'm so pleased that we have just ordered and paid for 2 boxes from Tom a member and trader on here many thanks to you and others who told me about him. At least by purchassing from the States we know we will get at least some very soon.

So can't wait to see what we pull,will let you all know if anyone is interested with pic's if a really rare one come's out!!

We received our 2 boxes of these cards and as new collectors are VERY HAPPY AND FEEL LUCKY!!!. We pulled the following cards shown below ,no autocards unfortunatly but we did get 4 costume cards (all different),and 4 foil chase card.

We feel what we got was lucky and are now fully hyped to recieving our case hopefully finish our costume set at least. We are wandering if the costume cards we got if any are harder to get than others,we would really appreciate people's thought and opinions. I will start putting the base cards in the pockets later on today, to see if we have at least (fingers crossed) 1 full set.
I like to put the pics of our cards on here but dont know how to put on once loaded on to pc.

We hope our odd's on 1 case is as good as what you had with 2 be over the moon if we got one of the top auto's!!!.
Also some people are concerned about the low price's for the costume cards etc.. at the moment,I be lieing if we werent collecting in the hope of a good return for a complete set in time but we do also collect because we like the sets we have. I feel the prices will be like the Batman return's cards were once the film is released(as the bb cards were fairly low before the release!!).

It will be interesting to see what your breakdown is BUSH as we are only buying the 1 case due to not a very big budget as we have spent or in process of spending $800(payment over few months)on the last 4 autocards needed for Batman Begins (neeson,oldman,holmes and caine)so good luck with your case we cant get ours till june 16th when partner gets paid cant wait we are well hyped after getting 4 costume cards all different in just 2 boxes whixh wasn't bad I think.
Also got a bargin for 2 autocards for £24 including postage on  :ebay: for the superman set.

Yeah, I am hoping I get some good autos to help cover the cost of the cases as I am not to sure on some of the costume card valuations. I think LOTR EVO and the new GOFU has shifted the money in the hobby away from this set. I might hold onto my cards until the film comes out.

Thanks everyone for your comments, in answer there were 2 costumes per box with 3 boxes having 2 costumes and 1 auto. Good Variety I thought.

You get 1 card in the Costume packs purely as if you put the costume plus the other 6 cards it would be easier to cherry pick although the packs are pretty stiff when a costume is in there.

I like it!  I wonder what part of the suit would have that snowflake print?

Thats a very good question maybe someone might be able to tell us,my theory on it is maybe the snowflake design was on the lapels on the front of the jacket or maybe a stitching design on the underside of either the jacket,waistcoat or trousers.

For anyone needing a Superman Returns binder pop into your local Woolworths and take a look in the Stationary section as theres a stationary set with binder, pencil case etc and the binder will come in handy for the collection,

Its only 2 ringed but it should be ok, i'm picking one up tomorrow so i'll post images of it.

I think there are loads of variations in this set. I was looking on ebay and there are currently 4 superman briefs cards on there, 2 in shops and 2 on auction, but only one of them has the patterned effect that matches the superman blue suit. Has anyone else noticed that some superman briefs have a square pattern on them and some don't? The superman suit also has this square pattern.

I thought as we near the Uk release of the film that prices would of looked a little healthier for costumes and auto cards but seemingly on  :ebay: prices are still farly low,will this change as I have a few costume cards but dont want to sell for too smaller amount and not sure when the right time might be,i was thinking maybe just after film is in cinemas or too hold on longer?
If anyone id after any costumes and want a list of what I have please Pm me , also will this set be incorporated on the price guide and if anyone needs help in setting up I am more than happy to help where I can as being off with back injury has given me lots of free time and could do with something to stimulate the brain matter again.

Yay! It sounds like there'll be a Superman Returns Update - one dealer on ebay has a sell sheet for it :o

There were rumours after Batman Begins that there would be an update set, but it never came off. Then again, they didn't get as far as making sell sheets for that.

Do you know what the update will consist of costume and autocard wise?,do you have a scan of the sell sheet and a possible date?

Do you think this will increase the price of original set up a little I have a few to get sold but prices still low, just sold a cape for £10.50
