Is it me or are the sketch cards drying up rapidly? Only one Kayanan is listed as an auction and only a handful of Staggs. This is not good!  >:() I want some more Kayanan's, I only have 20, please let more of them surface so I can finish my goal.  :o=

There are some fantastic Kayanan's that I did not see on ebay. I don't even know if they have surfaced like the (yellowish) Argonauth statue from the side or the 2 piece Witch-king on fellbeast that are listed on the LOTR sketch card site? Did they surface?

Maybe some of the people who pulled Kayanan and Staggs sketches want to keep them.

Gee, do you think it's possible that there may be someone out in the rest of the world that wants to keep their sketches?  :rofl: How dare they!! How can that be? Don't they know that they should sell them on ebay? (and @$20.00 to lower their value) Or do you suppose they are languishing unsold in the back of some card shop still in their $700.00 unopened cases?

Do you have all of your sketches on a website where we can see them?

No dealer I know - online or offline still has a box of these for sale, much less a case....

I've not found one comic store in town that has packs even... One store DID have a box, but they only ordered one box  (what WERE they thinking???)

I wonder if I should even bother to explain what I mean. It just surprises me that after less than 2 months cards are drying up in general. I expected the flow of new cards on ebay to last longer. If the hype is really over I think that's a shame because I enjoyed the 2 month ride.

And yes I do have 20 Kayanan's and over 25 Staggs' but does that really matter? I also have cards from other artist. I really admire their work and of the 2 (it should be 3) Kayanan cards that I mentioned I was wondering if they had been found. Many collectors have listed pics of their cards, even if they did not want to sell but just to share their excitement with other collectors.

Well, it doesn't matter to me since I have none and don't plan on ever buying any, but what did you expect?  I don't care how many you have, I was just wondering what your goal was.  ???

From what I've seen, that four to eight week ride is fairly standard for most trading card releases.  Let's face it, there was an absolute flood of sketches on eBay for well over a month, but the numbers were also a bit inflated because eBay changed the way searches were done.  Instead of just pulling up auctions, it also listed everything in eBay stores.  In the middle of Evolution madness, eBay went back to the way it used to be, and I know on other forums people thought there had been a big reduction in the number of sketches on the site.  It was just that eBay no longer included the items in eBay stores (unless you clicked on the link).

To post your pictures, you need to put them on a photo hosting site, like Photobucket.  Then you can copy the IMG link into your posts. :)

By the way, Kelly was asking about your goal because you mentioned in your first post that you wanted more Kayanans to reach your goal.

My Staggs goals was to get a very nice sketch of each of the characters that she did but that was impossible because she did a lot of one only characters.

I did not really have a Kayanan goal because his work is very $$$ to collect. I have said to myself I would definately stop at 25 sketches of his best work but that was too high too.

I asked my comic store if they could get a box. They said they could, but the price would be $90.00.  I just don't feel like risking it for potentially one sketch card per box....

Puzzling, since there are supposed to be so many boxes...

More people are keeping these than we think.  If I pulled a nice Kayanan it would be tempting to sell it for some big bucks, but honestly I don't think I could do it!

I don't know if I would risk it either at that price, but I wonder where they found a box to order.  I checked with all the major distributors (at least all the ones I know of that comic stores order from and they were ALL out).  None of them could give me the name of a local store (even a store in the state) that ordered a box...

I have one Kayanan in my collection that I pack pulled.  It doesn't have a lot of color, but I like it :)

If you enjoy a card, keep it, don't sell it for the money unless you really have to. Kayanan's work will keep its value, he does not do commissions.

There are only two hobby boxes up for auction and one in an eBay store.  It looks like the boxes have dried up.

God, if I pulled a Kayanan(let's face it, can't justify spending $500.00 on one to the spouse) ;D - I'd build an underground cellar to protect it, and if someone said "why don't you sell it?" they'd be banished!

If my girl would know what the true value of my collection is she would file for divorce and claim half. Now she thinks it is still very innocent.  0:)

You MUST post these on Photobucket...or Shutterfly.com...costs nothing....and then you can 'share' them with whomever you send that 'album' link of pictures to...or you post that link here for all shackers to view...a virtual Kayanan Museum collection!

...then, you can (for about $30-40) use the uplinked photos of your collection...to design a hard cover cool little 9" by 12" book of your collection for yourself...you can take weeks to design it, pick various basic templates with different layouts and photosizes...include captions...etc...it comes with a standard number of pages, but additional mpages are like $1 each...i'm sure all of these photo/web hosting servers offer something similar...

I know you have THE BEST BALROG!!!  with that churning hot red fire glow!  That's for sure...did you manage to acquire any complete two, three or four panel scenes???

Ah, you're the one who won the grieving Eomer holding Eowyn card...  That was the one I wanted most out of all I saw displayed.  A fantastic collection to be sure!

It's one of the best cards in my collection. It is very detailed, impossible to show on the pic of this message board. I have a very high resolution pic of it, if you send me an email I will return it with the pic. The pic itself is 2MB. Also the reading Gandalf is amazing, the detail, it's incredible. I really do not understand how people can make something like this with just a few markers. I also have the Aragorn opening the doors in my collection. Got it directly from Rafael, it was one of the 6 he got returned. Very nice too.

Also the card of the Ringwraith on the weather tower is very nice in real life. You can she the other wraiths in the background of the card but with this pic it is just too blurred. I could go on and on about these cards but that is a role I want to leave for OCDLOTR.   ;D

i wonder how light affects these sketches as we had questioned with the autos with their UV coating. these dont have that.  would the colors fade too?

I imagine the colours would fade Ed ... I wouldn't like to risk displaying them for that reason alone. :-\

Good grief Ray ... truly an outstanding collection of some of the best examples by Kayanan and Cat but I shudder to think how much $$$ you've spent to get them .... :-\

ermmmmmm NO!! Unless you want to risk ruining the cards .... :-\
I believe there's special display glass available if you really wanted to get them professionally framed ... perhaps a group of them together in a large frame?

honestly, i dont even think laminating them will protect colors. only the dark will...with specialized (museum quality) lighting for selective viewing!!

WOW, that's quite a collection! You need to rent a suite and charge admission so the rest of us can bask in the glory of these cards...

Most of these sketch artists (not all) work in a wash of watercolor or acrylic...and then overlay that basic wash with prismacolor colored pencils...these pencils have an incredible amount of WAX binder that may coat the image with a soft blurry undertone...but...with a very slight rubbing with your fingers (actually the oil in your fingers)...the faint oil 'touch'  will bring back the original 'glow' of the colors.
Like all encaustic wax medium based color, the color actually holds as much as oil as long as it is kept in a 'sunny-less' cool (as in less direct light) space...

...the Staggs you have aquired are incredulously unbelievably PERFECT!!!...not a mediocre individual card in the ENTIRE batch...these are all...perfect STAGGS!...each individual portrait captures the quintessential characteristics of each Fellowship hero (and non-Fellowship heroine...we all know females are the more intelligent species!...at least Tolkien and I believe that!)...these STAGGS sketch cards are PERFECTION !!!...quite a brilliant eye for pulling these particular available Staggs cards out of the plethora out there on EBAY...really an acievement!

That Balrog is still my favorite although the Persian minature Gandalf is spectacular...must be loads of detailed undercolor up colose and personal.  :o
