Don't ask why I bring this up now, but I saw on the POA DVD that J.K. Rowling mentioned seeing some scenes that took her breath away. 
Apparently they were really revealing about the end of the series.  Much has been talked about the scene where Snape protects Harry, Ron, and Hermione from werewolf Lupin, as that is not in the book (i.e. many are thinking that this may mean that Snape is really good). 

I was wondering, though, about the "sleeping bag" scene where Dumbledore says that in dreams we can be whatever we want, let us fly over the highest cloud or soar over the deepest sea (something like that  ::)).  Does anyone think that J.K. Rowling would end the series having it all be a dream?  Apparently, the last word of the book is "scar." Just wondering what everyone thinks.   ;)

I don't know, that would certainly be a somewhat tripy ending with a lot of possabilities, but I think to many fans would be somewhat insulted by that sort of an ending, whether intentionally so or not. Just my two cents though.

We have to rememeber that it could be a dream, she did have it all sorted out before hand so fans should take that in. I have to admit, that would suck but it would also be a fun ending to a book seeing as if Harry died the dream ending would be much better :rofl:

I agree with both you.  I wouldn't be very happy with a dream ending. I mean, one of the main reasons we love the Harry Potter series is the ability to escape reality to a magical, wondrous world.   :)

However, if she did end the series with Harry having to die, then the dream version may help to offset that disappointment.  I've often thought about how she might end it if it is a dream, since the last word is supposed to be "scar."  I thought, maybe, he would wake up, James and Lilly would be alive, as would his godfather; Ron and Hermione are best friends of his at school; etc.  Soon after waking, he would realize it had all been a dream...then, comforted, he would go into the bathroom, look in the mirror and there, to his surprise, would be a lightning bolt scar...maybe calling into question whether it really was a dream after all. 

I have got to stop this.  ::)

Leaving it as such as big cliff hanger like "Harry got up and walked into the bathroom and gazed into the mirror. To his surprise and horror, in the middle of his forehead, there was a lightning bolt scar...." would definitely be a great way to end it if Harry died of course >:D

Say, hypothetically, that Harry lives and is triumphant in his battle against the evil lord Montymort; since his scar was born of a magical encounter with his Mortiness in the first place, if Harry finally defeated him, maybe his scar would (oh, I don't know, lets say...'magically') disappear, which would be a fine reason to have the last word be 'scar'. Maybe...maybe not. Just an alternate idea.  >:D

Didn't Dumbledore say he would have the scar forever?

'Eh, probably. My memories for that's about as good as the Rolling Stone's attempts at sobriety.

I can't remember either.  Do you know which book he might have said that to Harry?

I think Dumbledore said that to McGonagall in Philosopher's Stone, right before they dropped Harry off at the Dursleys :)

I'll have to check 'em out.  It's weird to think that in a little over a years time, we'll all know the ending to Harry's story.

Or at least the ending of Harry's story as far as his Hogwarts years go.  ;) (hey, we can always hope)
