: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Bryanjs14 April 05, 2006, 08:50:46 AM I just cannot believe Ebay anymore. 9 Lord of the Rings Two Towers auctions just ended for me, and of the 9, I now have the lowest selling Saruman, Pippin, Galadriel, Frodo, Arwen, and very close to the lowest Legolas.
Why is it that mine went for so little? The recent averages listed here are higher than ALL 9 of the cards I listed. I am so fed up with how up and down Ebay is. Ok, sorry for this post, I am going to college in three months and I need all the money I can get, so I had to get rid of some cards and I thought I picked ones that would bring in a nice amount. I just am blowing some steam off. Sorry : Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Trey April 05, 2006, 10:14:11 AM Weren't you saving up because you were expecting a child on the way?
Or am I confused? : Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Bryanjs14 April 05, 2006, 10:53:50 AM LOL No child here....not for at least another 6 or so years. I live in FL and am moving to San Francisco in August to attend a film college.
: Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Trey April 05, 2006, 11:27:44 AM haha ok my mistake must have been someone else!
: Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : kbmum April 05, 2006, 06:34:56 PM Maybe right now is not a good time to be selling trading cards, other than LOTR sketches. Many HP cards are selling a bit low, too. If you wanted to get a particular price for a card, why didn't you set a higher opening bid, set a reserve, or do a straight BIN?
: Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Roz April 05, 2006, 08:22:46 PM Hm
Weren't you saving up because you were expecting a child on the way? Or am I confused? I'll join in the confused, I distinctly remember mention of children... we must be dual daydreaming or something Tracey. That's the way of things with auctions Bryan, you have a shop don't you? I suppose you can either put them in a shop at a price it would take to prise the lovely autos out of your hands or you can risk auctions but add a reserve/BIN like Cindy suggests, it's slower to sell that way but you won't sell something unless you are happy with the price. : Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Bryanjs14 April 05, 2006, 08:24:21 PM Simply because I looked at the average of what everything had sold for in the past two months, and those averages were around what I was expecting for all of the cards.
and I didn't do that, because I am cheap and I was trying to save money in Ebay fees. like I said, I was just steaming when I posted this. : Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : ferdinand_the_yak April 05, 2006, 08:27:02 PM It surprising the number of cards that I have sold using the BIN method - sometimes it takes a few tries, but its better for you that you are happy with the end price rather than ending up with an unsatisfactory auction price. I usually put BINs on higher end cards that I don't want the risk of falling foul with the auction method. It is more expensive, but if you get a higher return on your cards at the end, the fees will be worth it
: Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Bryanjs14 April 05, 2006, 08:27:13 PM lol, well...like I said, hopefully no child until I can finish school. I know my mother is dieing to become a grandmother but still, school needs to be completed first.
: Re: So sick of the way auctions have been going for me lately : Sharon April 06, 2006, 01:17:39 AM I think you need to be careful over the Price Guides average price ie
If there has been 9 cards sold for $100 each and one card sold for $500 that straight away puts the average price up to $140. But all this means in reality is that one person paid way too much for a card, not that they are all worth $140. Personally I love the Price Guide and especially the averages and statistics on there, but I only use them as a guide. I usually have a look at the auctions logged and just scan down to see if there is a particularly cheap or expensive one which could have affected the average. Bad luck with the auctions Bryan but just remember all the times you got more for cards than you were expecting - it will usually turn out to be me on a bidding frenzy  |
