For looks alone I would have loved Nigel Bruce who played Watson opposite Basil Rathbone's Holmes.

He's also big buddies with JK Rowling since he does the narrations... and he was the first person she met who knew what 'Draco dormiens nunquam titlandus' (sp?) means.
