I put in a best offer on a card a few days ago.  The seller has said he will meet me half way (which I am happy with) and has told me to submit a new best offer so that I can buy the card.  Only problem is when I click submit best offer it says I have already made an offer and can't make another one.  Any ideas how I can pay the lower amount for this card?  I want this card soooo badly that I really don't want to loose it but the original price is just a bit too much, so any help would be very much appreciated  ;D

You can't put in a 2nd best offer - ebay doesn't yet have a counter offer option (which is stupid of them - people have been suggesting it since the best offer feature was announced).

What I've done for people who've put in a best offer I don't agree with is give them a counter-offer price and tell them to let me know if that price is acceptable.  If it is, I (as the seller), will change the buy-it-now price and make that person the only approved bidder on the auction (via the pre approved bidder form) for a week.  If they don't buy in that time I change the price back to what it was and let anyone bid on it.

Don't know if it helps, but you can let the seller know that option.

Thanks Tialessa, that is a really good idea.  Unfortunately the seller didn't seem able to do anything from his end (maybe he knows as little about Ebay as me!).  I could be wrong, and I apologise to the seller if I am, but he didn't seem to believe me when I said I couldn't submit another offer.  In the end Roz came up with the solution - get Graham to put in an offer, which the seller accepted.

This is the first offer I have put in and it does seem a lot of messing about.  A question to anyone who sells cards - if I had emailed you an offer, before doing it on the Submit Offer button, would you reply?  I was just thinking that if I sent an offer and the seller rejected it but suggested a price I liked (like with this card) I could then put in my offer.

And you are more than welcome to be nosey  ;D  It is just a POA Sirius auto.  There had not been many on Ebay for ages and when I saw this one I really wanted it.  Of course sods law being what it is, there are now loads of them for sale  ::) (and a Shacker has one which I would have had like a shot if this deal hadn't been going through!).  I hadn't realised the signature on the POA cards was so much better than the GOF ones, but when I saw it I just had to have it  >:D

I certainly would, but I don't sell very much, not really. Some big guys may not have as much time to answer as people who are collectors or hobby folk.

As a general rule of thumb though, if I email the seller about something during the auction and I don't get a reply, I don't tend to bid as it gives a rather bad impression and I wonder what else the seller won't get time for  :-\

But I'd think the big guys would be MORE inclined to answer questions.  I would certainly answer to an email asking about a best offer, but I've also done the opposite - declined an offer & suggested a new price & asked to be emailed back if the price is acceptable.

Roz, I do the same thing - if the seller doesn't answer then I don't bid UNLESS I've bought from the seller before successfully...

Yeah i agree with Roz and Tialessa, most would reply and i have dealt with several large and smaller sellers and when i email if they would accept the offer they tend to get back to you quickly and either advise "yes i will accept this offer if submitted" or "sorry, that figure would not secure the purchase" or something similar.

Dont mean to push deals to australia, but i have bought several items from a guy down there and have always emiled him first, because he tends to look after people who are serious collectors... i bought a Lost auto of him at a very competative rate and i made the offer, then we bartered a little... although he prefers, as most sellers do, to get the best offer up front.

That brings me to the submit best offer button, ebays process of only accepting one offer is to ensure you are submitting your best offer to minimise seller and buyer interactions out side of the ebay system.. once questions get asked the risk is increased that ebay may miss out on the fees all together because te two parties may discuss an off line (non ebay) purchase to get a better price wihtout ebay fees.

Oops, the dealer in australia was a guy who runs some auctions by the name of jjllrr or shop harry luke... most of his POA, Charlie, Lost and Battlestar (related to these forums) is listed in his store.... and packs very well.... actually got a bonus last time i bought from him, but i spent a weeks wages as well???  :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

I'm actually waiting for a package from this seller (jjllrr)!!! He was extremely pleasent to deal with!! I submitted an offer to him and he emailed me promptly!! After two days, he accepted my offer!! I can't wait to show every one!!! ;D

Thanks for all the info  ;D  I think next time I will email the seller first and see what they think.  I am sure the one offer thing is to stop bartering but if that is what it takes to get the card.........

Back to the subject of best offers - I've not done many myself but I've had more responses from sellers than not on the whole.
I'm always of the opinion -  if you don't ask, you don't get - and the worst the seller can say is "no thanks"!
Some sellers are happy to barter off-ebay to get the best deal for what they're offering and there's nothing to stop you from placing another offer for the same item if you have more than one ebay account.

That is a beautiful card Jackie, I can see why you were tempted  >:D  And in my experience that is the sort of card that if you don't buy it now you will never see it up for sale again.

I have noticed more and more sellers seem to be using the best offer bit of Ebay.  I am not convinced it is working the way it should but I definitely think Ebay should let you put in a follow up offer.

Yep paid for and hopefully in transit  ;D  Silly thing is after all this agro I could have got one for practically the same price now.  Just like buses - don't see a Sirius for months and then four come along all at once  :rofl:
