: Women action films
: grecopa January 07, 2006, 05:44:33 AM
I've noticed lately that there's been a few action/sci-fi films right in a row with women as the main characters.  Aeon Flux which I've yet to see, and also 2 more-Bloodreign and Underworld (I think those are the names)  Are the last 2 comics?  I've never heard of them, so can anyone tell me if you think these movies will be any good?  I'm happily suprised with all these women centered action movies, so I think I'll ty to find time for all 3.  ;D

Bloodrayne was a video game, but I hear they totally trashed the premise of the game. The game took place in Hitler's Germany, but the movie takes place in Dracula's Transylvania ... blech..

Underworld 2 is a sequel to Underworld and I have higher hopes for that :)

I will admit, I watched Painkiller Jane on SciFi Channel and couldn't have been more disappointed. That one was based on the comic book series and totally failed, imo.

Maybe I won't be as dissapionted since I don't know anything about Bloodrayne.  I can't believe I missed Painkiller Jane!  I was looking forward to that one and I totally forgot about it!  >:()  DVR won't be installed on our cable until the 9th.  After that I won't have to worry about missing programs anymore.

I really liked Underworld the first one with Kate Beckinsale :-* :-*  She is so HOT.  I am looking forward to Underworld 2 as it looks like it will be better than the first (at least from the HBO first look I watched last night) with lots of back story on the Vampire and Liken (werewolves) clans.  Also backstory on Victor.

Also if you don't like CGI almost everything was the real deal and looked to have some incredible wire work on the stunts.  And there is a nice little "love" (sort of) story going between Kate and Scott Speedman (I think he is best known for Felicity which I never watched but I think was pretty popular).

I can't tell you about the other but I would recommend checking out Underworld.  The nice part is it isn't a bunch of vampires sucking peoples blood it is basically about the vampire clan vs the Liken clan with some interesting twists.

Also I liked Elektra, but of course I really like Jen Garner too :-[  darn you Benifer Lofleck  >:(

May I also recommend the RESIDENT EVIL movies....  OK, they're a little short on plot, but Milla Jovovich is awesome! So is Michelle Rodriguez, who costars in the first one.

I think that's on late tonight on one of the movie channels.  I'm having a super time with my new DVR!  I've recorded Hellboy and a few movies for the kids.  There's nothing like watching a movie at your own liesure and not having to take it back to the rental store!  8)

Hey Kelly
Another cool one for the kids and adults is The Phantom with Billy Zane.
It's a fun comic book movie with a lot of action. If You haven't seen it check it out sometime.

Kelly you recorded Hellboy for the kids   That came across strange at first read!

Once you have experienced DVR or Tivo I don't think you could ever go without it.  Its also nice to watch a tv show and cut the viewing time down a third.  Often I will start watching a 30 minute show 10 minutes delayed and finish at about the same time as regular view.  Its also great to just watch a movie you recorded and if it is crap part way through you don't feel like you have to finish it because you paid $4 to rent it!  TIVO and Netflix 2 of my favorites of the last couple years!

That one was for me!  Hellboy would be a sure way to have both my kids sleeping in our bed for the next year!  No thanks!!
