: Doom the Movie/Trading Cards Artbox
: beckham1 May 04, 2005, 07:20:04 AM
Not sure if Doom is a big video game outside the US, but apparantly they are making it into a movie (already done with filming) and ARTBOX is going to make the card set.

I tried to find more info and saw a few things that could make it interesting.   Karl Urban (Eomer) is in it and I couldn't confirm (maybe someone else knows) but one site said the Rock was in it (another did not have him listed in the cast).

I am sure Urban will sign, that would be so cool if the Rock signed, I think he did sign (?a few?) for Mummy and Mummy Returns, I think it was pretty SP.

Anyone else hear anything on this? ???

ya the rock signed for the scorpion king(i'm not a huge fan of his acting mind) he was in the mummy returns though but i don't think he signed .No doubt Roz i'd say we can expect another "KU" it really must have taken him around ten minutes to sign thr ROTK ones altough at least trilogy are better

:) Doom looks to be O.k. but I have my doubts.  ::) From what I heard on other sites that this will be a series similar to Resident Evil. I am sure it will be a good watch (one time) but it will never be in the history books. What do you Yak Shak members think?  ???

The Rock did sign for The Mummy My Wife has a Master Set and He was One of the seven who signed.
Doom looks like Brain Dead fun every once in awhile that is A-Ok with Me.

Has anyone heard anything on this set?  It is still up on the Potomac site for preorders.  I think I might pick up a box or two just for kicks.  I would really like to see what the props are going to be :o  Zombie guts?   Who knows...

Anyway I read on the another forum that one of our dealer members posted that it might be or is cancelled.  I would have thought seeing as Artbox did a sell sheet on it it would be released.  I know they cancelled the Zorro release and Frankenstien, I believe, but I don't remember them getting close enough that they released sell sheets or any real info.

Any info would be appreciated.

No info on the set, but I saw a trailer for the movie, looks like the Rock is the main star in it...an auto is pretty likely from him if they do a set cause he signed for The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King...although those autos are scarce and hard to get these days.

Doom is out - and it looks like they have started to guarantee something :o

*maybe there's a disclaimer on the back of the box 'reflects entire print run' etc etc - but seriously this might be a step up for artbox!

Any idea WHO signed for Doom though? ???

I've not been able to get any information out of Artbox or distributors about it at all.  I guess we have to wait and see what shows up on  :ebay:

No specifics or list, but apparently the entire cast!! I'd still like a list before buying though ::)

Indeed.  Which is exactly why I skipped pre-ordering any at all. :-X

No info, no order.  My new policy. >:(

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson
Rosamund Pike
Karl Urban
Phil Adams
Deobia Oparei
Richard Brake
Al Weaver
Dexter Fletcher

are the names of signers I could find on Ebay...and this is a VERY small release. Only 150 cases. No costumes though, even though the Comic-Con flyer I got from Artbox said there would be. I would definetly be more interested if there were costume cards.

Should Doom be on it's own page? I had to read back 3 pages to find out what Bryan and Sci Fi were taliking about/
o' course, I'm sorta dumb.

Doom actually had its own thread before I think I started it way back when.

The sell sheet said costumes and prop cards.  The props would have interested me most.

I wouldn't mind having another Karl Urban autograph card, but I haven't seen one for Doom yet...

It's a bit of a slow process - split it - rename it - move it - merge it ;)

Several odd things about this set actually:

No costume cards.  They promoted them, and even the NSU article in the set had an Artbox rep who said they already had some of the costumes in hand.  Wonder if there was some problem with the authenticity?

No prop cards.  Again, that is what was promised when we were supposed to order the product.  I'd be upset if I'd ordered based on the information at hand and then had 2 of the 3 major elements removed from the set.

Impressive autograph list, but...  Why have they not shown up yet on  :ebay:?  That is normally the first indication that a product has released.  Even the trio auto from POAU showed up fairly quickly.  Either there are VERY few of the main cast, or that information changed as well...

Given that the movie is not doing well, they'll be hard pressed to sell 150 cases if that is really what they made.  Boxes don't seem to be selling very well for those that have them.

Glad I passed on this one, even if the Rock did sign (I'll need to see one first). ::)

Honestly, I wouldn't call it an impressive autograph list even though the Rock supposedly signed.  I've seen 3 auto cards on ebay so far and Jeff Allender pulled another one - all names I'm not familiar with.  The autograph design IS cool, but not enough to buy a box IMHO.

Well less than a handful have made it onto ebay in open-box form : here (http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-1738318-5463217?loc=http%3A//collectibles.search.ebay.com/Doom-auto-autograph_Trading-Cards_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ868QQsatitleZDoomQ20Q28autoQ2cQ20autographQ29)

Odd business really. How's the movie doing over there? It's more of a computer gamer's movie than a trading carders I would expect, but to be fair I haven't seen it.

I enjoyed the film.
Doom has made right around $25M over here. Which actually classifies it as a "Blockbuster" film

: Re: Doom the Movie/Trading Cards Artbox

Doom was the #1 movie in the US the first week it was out :-\

I didn't think it would have much staying power, I am sure all the Doomer VG fans went, but not much after that.  I will wait until the boxes are dumped at around $20 a box.  Also that is exactly why many dealers struggle to make money in this business, Ed your wisdom and experience obviously pays off in this situation.

Can you imagine the dealers who preordered thinking there would be props and costumes >:()  They got jacked by Artbox.  I see Artbox becoming a comic images like fringe dealer soon, well one they have milked every cent out of the HP fans anyway.  What a bust, I would have certainly bought a few boxes if there were props and costumes, but you would be smarter to buy the Rock and KU autos seperate.  No doubt the others will be less than $10 a piece soon. (:D#

A friend of mine saw it on Orange Wednesday tonight - they told me to check in my brain with my coat when I arrive at the cinema ;)

Some people are always snobby like that with films :P I love a good film of all types, whether it be in translation or a no brainer like Bedazzled, I see it as a way to relax ;)

Good to see though that The Rock signed as 'Dwayne Johnston' his real name instead of just signing 'Rock' like he did for mummy returns and scorpion king releases. I like his new sig better  :o
