I just saw the new trailer for RENT.  The movie will be coming out at the end of November, and I'm really excited about this film.  It has all the original Broadway actors in it and I absolutely love Idina Menzel.  ;D  Does anyone else like musicals, or am I all by myself on this one?

I am also very excited to see this movie. My sister, brother and I plan on going as soon as it comes to our local theater  ;D Another reason I am really excited to see the movie because not only does the trailor look fantastic, but also because most of the cast is from the original Broadway musical.

I can remember for a birthday present my sister, brother and mom bought me a ticket to see the off Broadway version of Rent at the Eisenhower Auditorium in State College and it was amazing. I bought the Broadway soundtrack and listened to it until I killed the CD  :( thank goodness they are getting the soundtrack out for the movie so I can replace my other one that skips in a few places  :-[

Rent premieres November 23rd (WOO!!HOO!!)

Yep, I am looking forward to this movie. The closer it gets to being released ... the more excited I get. I can't decide whether I'm more excited for GoF or this :-\ I'm probably equally excited :)

I remember going to Eisenhower to see the off-broadway version with Wendi, Holli, and Mum. We were on the top balcony thing so it was a bit harder to see them, but I loved every second of it. The only problem was it went way too fast :P Before we left, Mum got me the scarf like Mark wore ... on the back it has written 525, 600. If it's cold enough when (and if) our small theatre gets it, I'll have to wear it :) Anyways, I was also very lucky to get to see it again for a repeat performance (students voted it back as best performance) the following year with my best-friend. I was much closer this time ;D And, I was two weeks away from seeing it while I was visiting Japan. If only I stayed longer after the Fall Semester :P ;)

I LOVE musicals.  In fact, up until I got married, I was in many opf them with community theatre.  Love to act and sing.

Thing is, and I am sorry to say this, I saw Rent with my husband, and it is one of my least favorite shows....Sorry.

Never saw that.  My all time favorite is Les Miserables, followed by Gypsy and The Producers (saw it with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick). But I could watch Les Mis over and over.  I read the book too.
I am also not a fan of Cats.

Nope, I would say my favorite(s) would be Les Mis, Chicago, and Wicked although I've only seen Wicked by way of bootleg tape (don't tell).  >:D  I just love Wizard of Oz, and it's such a cool concept to see the story through the green girls eyes.  ;D

I like Chicago too!!  And there are many more... too many to list.  I can not wait to see the movie version of the Producers, since it will also star Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick....and I think Nicole Kidman too.

I just saw another TV Spot for Rent. I'm getting more and more excited for the 23rd. I hope our theatre gets in on opening day so we can see it as soon as possible :o=

By the way, Rent is my favortie musical. The only other one that I saw was Les Mis (at the same place as Rent). It was really good, but it didn't hit me like Rent did. I'de love to see Wicked. I'm halfway through reading the book by Gregory Maguire ;)

I thought Wicked the book was good also, but it's really nothing like the musical.  Throughout the whole book I found it really hard to sympathise with Elphaba or Glinda.  In the musical however, Elphaba's definately the heroine.  Glinda's also more likeable and good comedy relief!  :rofl: 

So far, you're right ... it's been hard to sympathise with either Elphie or Glinda. I find myself liking Elphie much better, though. The first impression that Mcguire gave the reader for Glinda detracted me from liking her character all that much.

I really have to finish reading it, though. I had to take a break since the Spring 2005 Term I had too much reading. Then, HBP came out. Now, I'll sit down and read ;) I saw that Mcguire wrote a sequal to the book called "Son of a Witch". It elaborates what happens after the happenings of "Wizard of Oz".

I didn't know there was a sequel!  I might have to pick it up soon.  He also wrote "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" but I haven't gotten to that one either.  It's about Cinderella's stepsisters who probably aren't mean in his story.  ;)
BTW, isn't Chris Columbus directing RENT?  He directed Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone.  :)

Yep, Chris Columbus direscted Rent also. It looks like he did just as good a job on this as he did on Harry Potter  ;D I am so excited to see this movie, the musical was amazing.

I can't believe I forgot to post about the movie!  I thought it was terrific, and I'm so glad they cast most of the the original members.  Even thought they were quite a bit older they pulled if off great.  I never saw the show with the originals, but Idina is my home girl, so I loved it!  ;D  My husband Phil told me that while he was in college at The Cooper Union (engineering, not art) he lived a few blocks away from alphabet city at the corner of 16th and 8th.  Pretty cool!  I'll definately get the DVD when it's released. 
NOW- how about The Producers on the big screen?  I'll be in line for that one too.  I hope this stage to screen becomes a trend, I love musicals!

Well my theater did it to me again so I didn't get to see Rent or Serenity at the theater. I finally got to see Serenity on DVD in December and for those like me who didn't get to see Rent and wanted to I have some great news. I went to my local Wal-Mart and they had a sign stating that Rent would be released on February 21. I can't wait to finally get to see it  :D

That's great news!  What is up with your theater?  Are you in Amish country?  ;)  BTW, Serenity was rated one of the ten best movies of the year by a Christian movie review. (Forgot which one)

You won't believe this but yes I do live in an Amish Valley  :rofl: Our theater seems to think that only the major Blockbusters (Harry Potter, Narnia, LOTR, King Kong, etc..)will get them any money  ::)

I loved Serenity and now thanks to DVD I will get to see RENT  ;D

It is a beautiful countryside  ;D The only problem is when you are driving the car and you have to try and pass an Amish Buggy or two  ::) We have an amish lady who comes to our house and sales us homemade bread, Pumpkin Pie, Banana bread, zuchini bread, tomatoe, etc...  ;D

I just wish our small community would get more then one theater to give the one we have some real competition so then maybe they would finally get the movies that or not just expected blockbusters  ::) It would have been so cool to see Rent on the big screen along with Serenity. :(
