Who the heck chooses the images for these?  If I was being represented on one of these cards I sure as heck would want some input as to what my image was especially an autograph card!!

I thought all the actors had to ok the card design before they agreed to sign? Maybe PJ just has strange ideas of what is a good photo of him :-\

Hi FTY - speaking of disappointing images on auto cards - I hated the second one of Viggo from The Two Towers - he looked like a drowned rat for crying out loud!!  Why they did not choose the image like the one in my avatar is beyond me - that would have been one cool auto card had Topps done it that way!!  

Of the 3 Viggo auto cards I think the best one is the first from The Fellowship.

YES! That was the exact term I used when I saw the TT image... prob why I didn't get it and opted to get the FOTR one instead as I always intended to only get one auto/actor. Cost a bit more, but nicer photo and much better auto than alot of the TT and ROTK ones I have seen. Do you have all three?

I don't know why, but I prefer Viggo as the ranger, rather than as king... he looks like hes aged 10 years in his coronation scene - the rugged manly stubble is sooo much more Viggos look

Yes I have all 3.   :)  I also have about 6 or 8 8X10's signed by him and about 8 Decipher and Topps LOTR's cards with his signature as well.  Most of these are from established autograph companies.

Nope - Mark and I have to admit our Aragorn fandom has partly rubbed off from Savage - so he'd best have the crown  :-[

I even have a licensed Aragorn's Ranger Sword!!  You know in case of a home invasion by those lowly Uruk-Hai and Orc scum not to mention a Ringwraith or two!!

Ha Ha!!   :)  Now you know why I live on the top of a mountain - easily defensible!!  

Now Roz that is one great idea for an early warning system - why did I not think of that?  

No problems here at all FTK except the 4 legged variety of bears, coyotes, and bobcats!!  Real cool to watch and photograph.

Yep sorry - my mistake - Savage is in America - there's no Hobbits, Orc, Uruks or Elves in those lands - the LOTR was set in Europe, some say that it was set on the downs in Southern England, but others say that middle earth was spread more around the whole of mainland Europe - perhaps that makes the UK the grey havens.... or is Madeira "into the west"

Savage didn't I read you live in New Hampshire.  If so where my Grandparents live in Vermont and I spent many a summer there when I was a kid it is so picturesque.

I live in Franconia, New Hampshire right in the heart of the White Mountains.  They have the highest elevation in all New England.  

I too spent many summers in Vermont at my Grandparents.  My Grandfather was a building contractor and built many of the homes in Rutland, Vermont and around Lake Bomoseen.  The family had a cottage there at the lake and that is where I learned to fish, swim, and sail.  Great memories!  My wife and I grew up in Connecticut and we chose to live in New Hampshire because of the mountains and all the outdoors activity.  I love to mountaineer, back country snowboard, cross country ski, and hike to name a few.
Our town was listed in Outdoors Magazine as one of the 10 best places to live in the country for outdoors activity.

We are at 1200 feet elevation and have a 180 degree view of the mountains right in front of us.  It is so beautiful especially when you can see an entire rainbow from end to end in the valley below.

Where in Vermont did you spend your summers and have you ever visited New Hampshire and my area to include Mt. Washington?

Ed - what happened about the old man of NH? Did they give in to the elements or try to rebuild him?

A Commission was set up to explore the feasilibility of trying to reconstruct The Old Man but it concluded that it was not due to many factors.  One of the biggest was the very poor quality of the surrounding rock.  Geologists felt it would not support a rebuilt image and local people here did not want a man made structure to take the place of something nature constructed.

A museum, park guides explaining what happened to The Old Man, and special steroscopic viewers have been installed to show what The Old Man looked like.

Education programs for schools throughout New Hampshire have been instituted to keep the Old Man alive in thought and image.

Blimey you ARE getting all European in New Hampshire!!!

All this touchey feely museum stuff - and it's thoroughly American to try to beat nature isn't it? Or is that the old type America? And the VERY old British view of things - around the 1920s we were trying to do that with Titanic - well you all know how THAT ended  :-\ There's a chance you guys could have rebuilt it and it had fallen on children on a school trip to see it etc etc and what an awful thing that would be.

But I totally agree - it was a wonderful image (well from what we saw on the coin and presentation pack) if it was rebuilt it would never be the same - nature gives us things and takes them away, it's a force well beyond any of us...

Hi Samwise - I do have a digital camera and have been sending photos to Mark & Roz of the area around here.

I saw where you posted that you will be unable to have regular internet access but when you get back home send me your email address and I will be happy to send you photos of the views.

Heck when Mark & Roz come to visit me someday maybe they can pack you along as well!!   :)

Yea Roz that was the old America.  People are much more in tune with nature at least around here due to the fact that we are surrounded by it.  

Luckily there would never be the chance for something like what you described falling on school children because the Old Man was high up on the side of the mountain and there is no access unless you are a mountain climber/rock climber to that area.  The viewing areas are all off to the side and well away from any rock fall possibilities.  

What a relief!

Ed - I was wondering about the safely of the structure because we have some spectacular chalk and limestone cliffs along the south coast - in your wartime readings you will have heard of the "white cliffs of Dover" which is not that far from where Gimli lives...

perhaps we should ask him to row a boat out and take a picture for us... or maybe he could just send us a postcard!

Anyway along the south coast there is a famous cove - Lulworth Cove with spectacular cliffs and fossils are commonly found in the beach material. A class full of geography students were caught underneath a limestone fall once and it horrified everyone!

(I won't tell you what I think of the stupid idiotic geography teacher who should have known better than to take a class too near!!!)

I am very familiar with The White Cliffs of Dover from photographs - it is one of the sights I want to see when I visit England.  That is terrible about the students Roz.  Sometimes common sense goes out the window in people's thinking.

You folks with lots of cases are going to get tired hands getting one of these, on average you'll have to open 2202 packs to get one  ???

I talked to my card shop today and they have my 2 cases and are sending them to me today!  I hope to have them by Friday and will let you know what I get.  

Roz any word when your box is being sent to you?  If I get a Peter Jackson great but as I have his auto card from the Two Towers I don't care if I don't get one.

the peter jackson cards would have been more fun if they had the picture of him in his appearance in each movie. He looks like he just woke up.

Yea that or this is what happens to you after working so many years making the LOTR's films - you become a zombie!!   ;)

I bought "the rough guide to Lord of the Rings" and I saw a picture showing PJ and Viggo pouring over some sheets of paper. It was entitled "choosing images for trading cards" so believe it or not I do think that the actors and PJ get to choose the images  :-[ I'll try scanning that page in!

You know I think I know what picture you are talking about.  I believe it was used in one of The Two Towers Academy Award Nominations in either Hollywood Reporter or Daily Variety.  Does it show Viggo & PJ almost shoulder to shoulder looking down at something that resembles a script?  If so that is the shot used for Peter Jackson's Nomination for Best Director for The Two Towers!   :)
