So what info don't we know....just costumes - is the 14 auto the triple auto confirmed or still rumored!  Is it confirmed that those are the creature cards (and not counted as prop cards?!?!  That would maybe kick the insert odds up a little.  :o

I was looking for the countdown post, couldn't find it so I will post here.

Most likely 1 week til I get my first case.   It is drop shipping direct from Artbox about 300 miles away!!!  It is scheduled to ship on the 29th (friday) so if UPS is delivering it I should get it on Monday next.   I think I may be the first!!!!   Maybe I will just wait til you all get yours to open mine.   That would be the polite thing to do right!

Aha!  So, the boxes aren't being shipped on Nov. 3 -- that's most likely the date the distributors can expect to receive them.

Well, if that is truly the case, mine should arrive at my local comic store as well, unless they went through a distributor, which they most likely did :-\

One of our dealers could probably explain the way it works, but I would imagine that it goes from Artbox to the distriburtors - to the dealers.  So I think that most dealers are likely to have there boxes around the release date of the 3rd.

Most of my boxes and cases probably won't get to me until the 12th is my guess.  The ones that are coming from the east coast will probably take a little while to ship as well as 5 day for ups to get them to California.  So I hope the triple auto is in my first case!

well, all i can say is i hope they come damned soon because im getting itchy fingers, im sure samwise has itchy arms, lol ;D

I can't believe no one in the US has any of there cases yet.  They have to go how many thousands of miles to get to the UK.  I am less than 300 miles from Artbox and still no sign of the drop shipped box or my local dealer who should get them 1 day after the distributor who is 70 miles away.  

Oh well I guess I should be patient but it is hard to after waiting this long.  I am going to fly over to the UK, someone save a case for me, be there in 10 hours.  Ok maybe I will save the money to pay for my cases.  The cards just look so great. :'(

So it seems that there are 3 props per case and 7 costumes as well as 2 auto's???  RIGHT???  (and if there is a creature card 2 props instead of 3?)

I have not seen any yet and I am curious as to what they look like. I know you are busy though hehe so when you have finished unravelling your cases could you please put a pic up of them? that would be great if you could.

Is it basically working as at least one insert per box? there are enough cards being pulled to make it one per box. That is good for me cause im not getting a whole case so at least I am guaranteed something.

...I just ordered another 2 boxes off ebay, tomunique has a good price on them at the moment but there are only 4 left so if anyone wants some then hurry! I am up to 7 boxes now and I think I will go up to 8. I should have just ordered a case in the first place but I was only planning a couple of boxes to start with!

Gimli, how do your breakdowns compare with the first set?  To me, it seems you're doing quite well.

I'm also really disappointed that no cards have shown up on this side of the pond.  I was shocked that Georgetown (in Pennsylvania) doesn't expect to receive shipment until Monday or Tuesday.  One would think that a staggered shipment would result in everyone getting their cards at roughly the same time.

as far as i know my case is going the in the wrong direction :(

I had a case direct drop ship from Artbox and it is still not to me (I am only 300 miles away from Irvine, CA.  

Also my local dealer said he is expecting to get the cases in Tues or Wed.   That seems like a long delay from the UK release.

That is amazing that you can be missing so many of the cards after opening 10 cases :'(

I guess not so many, but I think for opening 100 boxes and no harry or hermione auto (although having a triple auto if there truly are only 25 is amazing).

That is almost a little scary still needing cards for a master set.  You would think anything over 200 print run you would pull from 10 cases.  I wonder how many harry auto's there are.

Rumours suggest 65 ONLY but I don't know for sure

65 just sounds like so few for a print run of maybe 1300 cases ???

Just got word from a dealer in the US that there are 1500 cases in the US and 500 in the UK. Not sure how many went to Japan but he did say they were also 300 retail cases. Kinda contradicts what Cards Inc were saying yesterday.

That is one big print run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!  Thats crazy!!  I can see possibly the Harry autograph, but the rest, especially the George Weasley costume.  Definetely doesnt' give much hope for getting a master set.  I still think the set is amazing and am very happy with it, but that is crazy!!

Yep no autos in the last case whatsoever! Not one! I think it's pap to get that frankly! I know nothing is guaranteed but from 2 to nothing???

It's a beautiful set - the base set is amazing, there's tonnes of nice stuff in here but you are going to have to get used to paying more for what seems like high number costumes and props because they are RIDICULOUSLY hard to pull!

Bad luck on the auto's in the last case, and the first case was strange.  2 of the same auto and 2 wanted poster props # 57 & 58????

Artbox is not very good a packing out there collation seems terrible.

Which is great when it works in your favor, but not cool when you get no auto's.   I myself prefer good collation as I never seem to be lucky enough to benifit from extra inserts (ie LOTR Chrome Case)

How many more cases to go Roz?  Are you going to wait, or do you not have them yet?

It seems a little undecided yet.  I am a little disappointed to find that the Rupert, Hermione, and Harry auto's are so hard to pull.  And you would expect the triple would be tough.  

I wonder if this set is going to be so difficult to try to put together that most people will give up ???

If you can't complete a set from 17 cases that is about rediculous.

Roz,  0 autographs is totally unacceptable.  That's just ridiculous.
It's insulting when you've spent all that money and the company can't even be bothered with seeing to it that you at least get the bare minimum.  Artbox needs to have a serious talk with a company like Inkworks, where the odds are stated and that's what you get.  The thrill of not knowing what you're going to get sure is tempered when you get nothing.  That just sucks!

Yeuch - 0 autos sucks! One auto would be bad enough. None is ridiculous.

Makes us box buying people wonder if they will get anything AT ALL with their much reduced chances! Hope Cases 5-6 are more fortunate!

Overall total is 352 inserts in 25 cases, which works out to just over 14 inserts per case. Based on a £450 a case then each insert should be an average of £32 a card

25 Cases and not one Harry or Hermione Auto. And no Rosmerta Costume. That´s strange and not nice. :(

This will be a very rare card!! One of the lowest numbered costumes and impossible to find anywhere really.

With all of the talk about inserts, I haven't read much about the base cards.  Are they pretty much the same as the first set?

No they are great - I love them

I am just sorting them out so I haven;'t seen a base set in 9 pocket pages yet - but it looks GREAT!

Chris although that's a nasty case in terms of numbers of insets the marauders map, wanted poster and autos should still pay for the case! People are going to have to sit up and realise those cards are £150+ because that's what they cost to find in cases!

A very bad insert rate on that case but at least what you did get was good. I'll be over to nick that Dawn auto in 10 mins ;)

 I noticed in Gimli's breakdown that Hermione's trousers and Cedrics Quidditch robe were not mentioned.  OUt of 25 cases, were neither of these cards pulled?  Does anyone know what these are numbered to?

I want a wanted poster!  From the way things had been described, those swatches weren't supposed to contain lettering -- people here speculated the swatches would be blank.

Things i have noticed

There are 2 different types of material in the neville card both black one is more shiny than the other

the same is true of the harry cardiganthere is one with a tighter weavon material than the others (out of 27 i only found 1 different)

the aunt marge cards there is some variation in the pattern but manly V pattern or straight lines

The fudge cards have either horizontal or vertical pin stripes

Lupin in class room (834) dark brown material with criss cross lines of sticking,  Brown with black stripes with white stitchingeach side, Gray with white stripes

Buckbeack feather white of Gray

these are just the variations i have seen with the other cards not show  i will try and scan them for you top see

Is the buckbeack swatch empty? or only white feather ???

it is a very white feather with a very thing centre running through it it looks like it is from the end part of the feather and is tightly held in with no rased parts, where as the other is much more broken up and fluffy if you get what i mean

With regards to the Lupin shirt, how could one shirt have so many variations?  Maybe the collar and cuffs have a different print from the rest of the shirt?

Just broke my 2 cases, and I must say I was very dissappointed as I only got 4 autographs in each case!!! :)  Talk about excited.  My luck is still running strong. Plus I got 9 film cell cards, there was a prop card and a film cell card in every autograph box that I opened.  I am excited to see more people from the US post and see if this is consistent, or if I just go extremely lucky.  I do really like the Ron autograph, and pulling two of the twins was exciting as well.  My wife was most excited about buckbeaks feather as she really wanted that one.  This set is a really good looking set.  Even some of the higher numbered prop and costume cards are really cool.  I'm still glad that I bought the 16 autograph set for $2500 though.  :)

It was pretty funny.  The three of us sat around a card table, opening boxes and packs for hours, with the fourth side of the table facing a giant-screen tv.

That was a great 2 cases Morenomark. Very nice indeed.

I think the TV show idea has got real potential. Maybe the show kicks off with a 3 way Top Trumps duel to decide who opens the 1st case from a selection provided by the sponsors of the show  "Artbox".

Anyway my cases have turned up today but I'm too excited/scared to open them. I've decided to open 1 today but only do 5 boxes (Teasing myself!!) but I can't decide which case to open.

Make sure you contact Artbox about the damaged costume card.  They will replace it, but you might not want to wait too long to do it.  If the number of damaged cards we've seen so far is any indication of what's to come later this week (when many people will get their boxes), there could be a run on the cards Artbox held back.

OK everyone I got my case that was drop shipping from Artbox and my local shop got my other 2 cases.....as luck would have it he was able to get his hands on another case for a grand total of three ;D

Well I have to get up for work in 6 hours and suffer through the day knowing I have two cases sitting here with a triple auto and harry and ron auto's.  Oh well I guess it will wait.  I will post my case breakdown tommorrow I need some sleep.  Nothing super great to report (nothing under /430 so far) but one very nice 7 color variant divination class card.  No creature cards  Marauders Map wanted poster or Daily Prophet :'(  Considering those are the cards I want to collect.

But I have almost have enough sleeping bag cards to sew together for camping  :D

The tins come with the tin cards and 12 tins should contain one of each costume. So as i want the tin cards and costumes that is the way i decided to get them 12 tins cost me £64 roughly and should have ment I got the equivilent of 2 retail boxes, a set of the tins and tin cards (i only wanted on of each) which i didn't think was bad

Sounds like some distribution problems.  Can you contact Artbox and explain what is going on?  I have no experience with them so I do not know if or how they will reply to not only this problem but the problem it seems with UK cases as compared to US ones.  Good luck.

Artbox is very good at responding to problem questions, but it does take them some time to get back to you.  I wonder if they are aware of all the damaged cards out there?

Hi all have to say that some of the US Case breakdowns are starting to look a lot like mine. Goofyjas had one of the worst breakdowns I have seen yet really.

From what I have been told Artbox are aware of problems in all cases that have been opened both in the UK and the USA and have received a lot of emails.

My advice would be that any of us that has had bad collation or poor numbers of inserts email artbox nicely and state our case that is what i have done today.

Yes it does let them off the hook. But if they don't know there's a problem (which hasn't by any means hit every box. In my experience one or two boxes a case) they won't know to try to improve the consistency of their packing!

LOL but guys you get my point they might find they need to sharpen up inserts. Getting one auto in a case is feasable as a mistake but missing 2 or getting dud boxes is a bit of a shame).

Oh, I absolutely agree.  Besides, they might even give you something for it.  I always say it is worth a try.

The question is, what is a reasonable expectation for the number of inserts in any given case?

Even though Artbox states that the odds are based on the entire print run and nothing is guaranteed in any individual box, there has to be a reasonable assumption that a case will yield a certain number of inserts.  At the pre-sell prices we were all charged, no one would buy a case if they knew more than half of the boxes were duds.  No one would buy a box if there was a 50 percent chance that it was a dud.  Not unless the prices reflected those odds.  

I don't think a box is worth $60-$70 US unless there's something in it other than base cards and a few foils.  Right now, you can buy a retail box with a guaranteed costume for $40.

I don't understand why Artbox can't guarantee at least one insert (auto, prop, or costume, as opposed to foils) when other companies can.

I agree.  I bought a box of 24 trading cards that stated 0-3 inserts per box.  Mine only had one, but it was nice of them to tell you up front that there may be 0.  It was only $20, so even if it did have 0, it was an okay price.

I noticed the same thing and have also been wondering why this is?  Lets call it the Precious Syndrome :o

I think this is what happened with LOTR FOTR - the first release was so great with all the super auto's and the print run was so low that it became a gold mine for collectors, then the word got out and with each additional LOTR releases started trending down.   The ship sank with LOTR ROTK Update - you can pick up a box for about $25 now well below what a dealer could by them for.

So if you look at it one way it is great for the collector who can pick up some really cheap inserts from this set ;D

Or if you are someone who wanted to make money on this set like POA original I think it will be very tough unless you pull one of the big three auto's or a triple.  It seems even props lower than 500 can be had at $50-$100.

On the flip side I think many are still waiting for there cases and will buy what they need after they open them.  A master set being almost impossible is going to force people to pick and choose and I think that will affect demand for most cards.

I don't know I really would like to hear what others think.  But they are awesome cards for the collector.

I feel pretty undecided so far on my overall thoughts on the cases I have opened so far.  There has been a few cool variants and a few nice costume cards.  However I am a little disappointed with 3 cases that I didn't get any of the big cards I want (no I am not talking about the big auto's although that would be nice I am not expecting to pull one).  I think they should have produced a few more of some of the ones #'d below 1000 and less of the ones over 2000.  I am a little frustrated with all the Harry Robes and Quiddich Robes and Lupin Jackets (you can pretty much count on about 3 or more of these per case)

I wouldn't be too discouraged, I tend to have worse than average luck.  You will prob pull a triple auto, map card and grimm fur.

Of course then you will trade them all to me for a harry quiddich robe and lupin jacket....and when I snap my fingers you will wake up...and cluck like a chicken.

I wish morenomark had gotten the side with awesome cards back then, so that karma would be with me now. We have each opened 2 cases, he has gotten 6 Autographs (including Hermione), loads of Film cards + many props & cotumes. Hopefully, the final case I am waiting for will have some stuff to make up for this one!

As is typical with most of us I guess, I couldn't wait until tonight to start opening some packs, so during my lunch break I decided to open 1 box. Out of that, I've opened just 12 packs from one side. And got :

I also got the three tins.  From said tins, I got two "M" cards and George Wealey Quidditch Robe #1559 of 2803, which was pretty lucky, considering the dealer had exactly one set of tins and the odds of pulling a costume card at four packs per tin are one in six.

To add insult to injury, while I was waiting for the update set, I started collecting Angel Season 5.  Tonight I bought my fifth box.  Got Autograph Card #5.  Got Pieceworks Card #4 (one duplicate out of five).  Got the three cards I needed to complete the two chase sets.  Got the Box Topper I needed to complete that set.

I'm expecting the infestation of locusts any minute now.  

Seriously, my luck is NEVER this good.

Anyway,  I said it for Roz and I'll say it for Fernando:

No autographs is totally unacceptable.  

At the very least, Artbox should give you a replacement autograph when something like this happens.  

We also noticed several packs where there were only five cards.  I'm really curious as to how the cards are packed.  I have a theory that it's a machine that uses a computer program that tells it when to drop inserts in.  The boxes that have nothing or less/more than average are a result of the machine following the programmed ratios; every so often there's a null space.  The skips are, in effect, "0's".  I'm probably way off, but it's something cases with no auto's make me think about.

what happened to 10 costumes per case and 2 autos percase some had no autos and itsalways 7 and below with the costumes, Artbox have made a Balls out of this!

I think that was an ok case, sure you only got one auto, but you did get buckbeaks feather, and a good range of inserts. At least you didnt get double's of anything, it could be worse and you could have got 4 harry's quiddich costumes in the one case or something like that!!  ;D Let us know how u go with your other cases

yeah, I have to agree the buckbeak feather, hermione sweater, hermione pants, and draco robe all /730 or less.  The French auto also a pretty good one, but it would have been nice to at least get the second auto, so I can understand that.

Also I don't know if everyone noticed but the packs have odds printed on them:

Chase cards 1:5 packs
Costume or Prop cards 1:24 packs
Cinema Film cards 1:80 packs
Autograph Cards 1:120 packs

Of course it states the standard disclaimer and no insert ratio guaranteed to exist in a box or case.

So out of 288 packs per case
10 prop or costume
3-4 Cinema cards per case (every other case should have 4 cinema cards)
2-3 autos per case (so I guess 1 in about every 3 cases should have a third auto)

Yeah but it seems that Artbox can not even guarantee for the 8 Basic Cards per pack. In addition the Ratio applies to the hole print run, so no wonder we can found 5 autos in 1 Case and 0 autos in another.

It seems to be simpler for Artbox to make the Ratio for the hole print run than to guarantee the inserts per Box.

I think in such a way could Aertbox more boxes produce and sell  :'(

Why are the monster cards rather dark swatches it would seem they would be lighter like the second top right card?

Well yes the book looks lighter than the swatches I think it maybe a case that the photo is photographed in a way that makes it look lighter

The swatch you see top right has a wood grain effect but feels rubbery

and the swatch bottom right has hair smoth skin like material and the edge of some gold lettering

all in all a nice set of cards

So far, I am still waiting on my 3 boxes.  Which really is crap since my chances at good cards are more rare than if I bought a case (might buy some more boxes tomorrow though).  With all the customes, they could have made less boxes and kept the odds at 1 costume per box, 3 props per case and so on.  I think we would have all been more happy with those odds.

They should be with you soon...unless they are held up in customs.

OK, whats up with the harry grey t shirt, has anyone pulled one yet?  Does this card exist?  Was it an incentive card?

Oh and can't believe you pulled 5 props under 500 and 3 of the Rosmerta costume to 250.  You control 1.5% of the market.  That is a lot of responsibility, so if you can't handle it I will PM you my mailing address.  Let me know.

Also I think you did pretty well on the auto's the double, 1 - Ron and 2- Hermione's.  Not bad for 10 cases.  That is 4 good ones.  I am pretty jealous!

Pretty unspectacular really, leading to the conclusion we've all been had over. The original POA series was great, with any case well worth the money. This time round odds of anything good have plummeted. It really has turned into legalised gambling with people blowing thousands of pounds hoping to get the big cards that just aren't there. Warners have probably got half the Harry's again. I've already given up on LOTR after Topps did this after the excellent odds of good autos in the FOTR series. I will be giving up on Harry Potter as well. Look out for my Pear Tree leaf soon, it'll be coming up on Ebay. :-[

I have to disagree there.
I dont think we have been had at all.I think it is a great set for collectors where it will take some time to complete the set.
The only reason it has been produced in such large numbers is because of people wanting to make a quick buck and ordering more than they would in the hope of to sell their spares and pay for the set - This has never been part of collecting .
People are slating the set because it is not making them money like the first one and they are feeling burned - I consider these people more speculators than collectors.I can guarantee that this set has made many genuine collectors very happy because it is a great set well made and a lot of it is very affordable.I dont understand the mentality of it when every collector thinks they should be able to get a master set quickly and cheaply-surely that isnt collecting!
Artbox have managed unlike some other card manufacturers to secure the biggest names in the movie to sign and this is a feat in itself.I get fed up with people slating this set because it is rather from a financial viewpoint than a collecting standpoint.
At the end of the day the speculators are to blame for the huge increase in production of this set and I think Artbox did a great job with introducing many inserts in this set - Had this been a Topps release the inserts would have stayed the same [around 15] and they would have been produced in greater numbers or seeded less per box.
Lets get back to collecting !!!

There are some SERIOUS distribution issues MPC, you can't erase that from your memory - ok so maybe you have done ok on your auto ratios but a lot of us have had no autos or one auto a case, £400 is a lot of money to fork out without getting an auto to be honest.

I totally agree with you on the set, it's beautiful the auto list is breathtaing, the props are far more interesting and the clothings can only be described as comprehensive :P. The whole set is much more imaginative and exciting than the last one, and this is a FANTASTIC time to buy, GRIMM furs (which I didn't get ONE of in 6 cases) for $30 - BARGAIN! Marauders Map - I opened 4 cases without finding one of these $75? You'd be a fool not to snap those up.

My only objection is with the distribution problems, whilst I am very glad for one of our forum members to get 5 autos in one pack, it's tough to see when others are getting just one or no autos in a case...

I think next time we need to give Artbox the space and time to pack it properly, I think anyone that talked to me prior to release, heard me say that I was happier for them to take their time and put in autos rather than redemption cards into packs, but I would have been equally happy to give them another week to get them reasonably well packed up.

It's a shame :(

On your point about Distribution yes maybe it could have been better and I also had a lot of 1 auto cases.But people only complain when they get bad luck.Would you prefer 1 insert per box or the chance of getting 3 or 4 over not getting one??- I know which I prefer.How boring is a product when you get guaranteed 1 insert per box and you hit the insert early on!! Are you really interested in carrying on?
On the cost problem lets compare this to Topps latest release -Star Wars Heritage.There you did get 1 insert per box but that didnt stop me for getting a few dud boxes.And then on top of that getting a Martinez sketch !!
And this is where it was different.I run a business but I would much rather be left with a Lupin costume than a Martinez sketch and with the box prices the same this is where I have a problem.
Heritage wasnt complained about half as much as this set although being an awful set and I put this down to the FINANCIAL success of the last Potter set.
You ask people who have bought PoA original cases at $1900 and I am sure they will tell you it wasnt worth the money !!
How Many Ways Do People Want It!!! -Do they want a short print run that rockets quickly out of collectors reach or a product that will be affordable for some time?

It is a shame, 4 consecutive Cedric costumes then 2 dud boxes then a lupin and then a remption with a divination and a sleeping bag is just pants for a collector spend £400 and get £100. I may not be wanting to sell, BUT i would like to get something other than a 4 common diggory cards and lupin costume and 2 duds. So much for randomly inserted, more like purposely planted because they ran out of time  :-\

Totally true MPC I hated Heritage compared to this set. Of course I'd be 10x happier with one of those Harry cardigan cards than a martinez sketch for the same money.

I think guaranteed insert boxes are great Rich, I've had far more than my fair share of duds in trading cards (I think my luck in Trilogy finally made up for that though ;D). But sets with guaranteed inserts do tend to be boring :P

I've been having a think about it and the only thing I would have changed myself if I had been working at artbox, I think I'd have kept the print run to 1000 cases, it's too early in the Harry Potter licence to blow it out and sell so many cases in my opinion,, there is too much left to do - 6 books worth (2 other movies so far). From the point of view of set content I don't think I'd have changed anything. They made it as diverse as they could so that although there are 4 or 5 cards numbered over 2000 they are from major characters; Diggory, Harry, Lupin, etc - although the separate Quidditch robes for Cedric and Harry (x2) PLUS the dual costume may have been overdoing it :P

I wonder what ground they are planning to cover in future sets? The interesting signers left are just McGonagal, Draco, Snape and Hagrid (and Robbie is not the sort of person to sign I am afraid). And there must be a point where we all have enough robe cards and need no more :P

Following this set there will probably be a reduction in orders for the Philosopher's Stone set (which in my opinion will be no bad thing) and so it will probably scale back down again to somewhere between PoA and PoA Update which is perhaps a more realistic size for the HP fan base (yes it has a huge following but it's not LOTR!) and the set will do well - but not if it's so highly produced as this one I don't think.

Our orders need to be reduced for the next set to be a success! What do you reckon?

I did not realise I was going to kick things off a bit. I agree with what MPC says  in a way, and have bought a lot of things from him, some pretty high value cards in fact. But why have so many costume and auto cards to collect at such low ratios. Why not put in enough of eachy to at least be within the grasp of the collector. Get an actor to sign a decent number, if not, don't bring them on board. I am a collector myself and only sell on the secondary market my spares, to try and recoup some of the money I have spent. I just feel there are too many things to collect in this set. As the original idea of card collecting was to be satisfied when you finally completed a set, but not having paid thousands of dollars for the privilage! There is no doubt this is a beautifully made set, but have Artbox over-stretched themselves?

From my own point of view I think the card set it self is fantastic. The film cards are just awesome and a great addition to the original set.

I have to agree with MPC's point that this is definitely a set made for the collectors with an excellent and inspired range of insert cards BUT I am very disappointed with my overall pulls. I didn't discover the first set until the box and case prices were absolutely crazy, and so I didn't get to "pull" any cards from the set and had to purchase individual cards on Ebay. When the Update set was announced I was determined not to miss out on the fun of opening boxes and looking for inserts and so I pre-ordered a couple of cases. Due to a mistake of my own making I ended up paying an awful lot more for my cases than I should have done so you can imagine I'm a little miffed when I only pull 1 auto and a handfull of other cards that I could have purchased individually for about £150.

I think if I had known how many cards were to be produced this time I would have not ordered in cases but waited until after the release and picked them up on Ebay. I think people feel a bit miffed/disappointed because Artbox seemed to keep all the numbers under wraps. Even now there still seems to be some debate about how many cases were produced. I don't think I've wasted my money as I love my cards but I do think the cases prices were very high for what they contained.

What do you guys think?

Hi All.  I like the set.  I just went to a card show and bought two boxes (my other three should be here this Wed).  I didn't do as well as others, but I am still happy.  I got:

A full foil set, a couple base sets and a Harry Quidditch (742/1143) and Hermione's jumper/scarf (192/730).  I am very happy with these cards.  As much as I would have liked a prop, film card or auto, I will have fun opening my next three boxes.  Yes, I spent more than these cards are probably going to go for, but I had fun doing it, and I am very pleased with them (especially since the hermione one was on my must have list, and so was one of the Quidditch robes, to go with my Weasley one from the first set).  So I feel good about this, ad I do love this set.  I won't be able to own all the ones I want, but the hunt is always a good time ;)

Nice one RNS - it's unquestionably one of my favourite cards in the set  ;D

If you had to name one favorite card from this set what would it be and why?   :)

yes the back does say 11/03/05 but i would read that as US date 3rd November 2005 (03/11/05 in the UK)

Yes, that is US, November 3.  I work for a company that uses UK dates (03/11/05) so I understand both ways of doing it, but the US way is definitely 11/3/05.

Thanks Roz! I too love the Hermione jumper.   I may even like it more than the pink sweater from the first set that I hae been trying so hard to get. But I must say that I like the Grim fur of this set the most so far.  I have seen most of them at the show I went to.

The three boxes i ordered from my local shop are coming this Wednesday!!!  So more to come.

I know the two cards I pulled are not worth the cost of the two boxes, but I am very pleased and would do it again in a heartbeat.  Looking forward to getting my next three boxes ;D

The U.S. date is definately November 3, 2005.

And Roz, still no one has touched mine (at least not the material).  I am always afraid to get them dirty, so I instantly put them in a protector screw down case.

So far, I got two box topper 2's.  One of my foils is a little damaged, but before I start trading and everything, I figure I should wait until I get my other 3 boxes this Wednesday to know exactly what I need.  I will be gald to help out others as well, depending on what I get :D!!

I just realized as I am posting this that I didn't get a costume or prop in the 3rd case that I didn't already get in case 1 and 2.  I was already upset about getting 2 sleeping bags and 2 Lupin Jackets in Case 3, now I'm really pissed! (that's 'angry' for my UK friends  ;)).  I also was shorted on the autographs and that was my main reason for purchasing this product.

All in all, the cards are beautiful.  I just wish Artbox would have mixed the inserts up a bit better.  Anybody up for trading some doubles?

Why is it that some of Aunt Marge's costume, numbered to 430 is going for so low on ebay?  I thought it would be more than that.  Is it because she is not a main character?  These cards are going really low.  Look at the Daily Prophet that just went for $31.  Was that a fluke?  I thought that one would be going for $60-$90 at least.  Any thoughts?

it seems the only cards really attracting much interest,bid wise, on EBay are number less than 400 i.e. wanted poster or madame rosmerta. As well as the biggies.

I suppose there are a lot of people still waiting for their boxes to arrive so activity may pick up after a while when more boxes have been opened.

I've been trying to pick up some bargains while the prices are so cheap but I spent all my dough on cases :(

The great thing was that both the Hermiones came from the same case, in addition to the aunt marge redemption.  That case made me about jump through the roof.  I will never divulge whether the case with the two Hermiones was the one intended for another, as I know they will read it here.  I definetly like the new Hermine picture for her autograph.  It looks like she is older in it for some reason.  A fun evening in a small town in Idaho :)

I must admit I am getting really PO'd with the continual crappy cases with the same cards as the one before and missing auto's and film cards etc etc.
Only one card I was looking for the Daily Prophet.  It's tough to be happy for others pulling great cards out of their cases when you get box after box of crap!  Of course no ill will to those of you with good luck.   At this point I want to just put all my cards on ebay and be done with this frickin hobby.  

Sorry for the rant....it just really is bothering me with this product, not that the cards aren't nice, but to get the same crap over and over again.  Missing inserts in many of the boxes.  And the poor collation of the product.   I don't care who you are at some point if you open enough boxes you should be able to pull something rare.  

There certainly shouldn't be multiple of the rare auto's in the same case :(   No offense ztaylor as it is great for you.  4 cases and 2 Double weasley, 1 Ron auto, and 2 Hermiones as well as 3 Buckbeaks (right?). I haven't pulled any of those cards and I don't even want to say how many boxes and cases I have opened.

I think you should change your forum name to Mr Lucky.  I think I will now have all of my boxes and cases shipped directly to you for opening and then you can send all the good cards to me.  8)

Actually I really like the sleeping bag prop, it looks a soft material - so I might buy enough cards to reconstruct a sleeping bag and use it to live in soon ;D

Icat - well done - I have broken 6 cases now without so much as a whiff of a creature card at all, not a single one, not even a Grim (which is probably a good thing - I don't really want Trelawney coming to me and saying "my dear - you have the GRIMM"!)

Outstanding Zach and well done Icat!!  Zack you are one of the luckiest people I have heard of in collecting cards.  Have you tried the Powerball Lottery?   :)  

Beckham - I really feel for you!  It stinks plain and simple when you get box after box or cases with the same cards.  I agree a very poor job of distribution.  Has there been any word on this problem and the problem with damaged cards from Artbox?

Also could someone explain to me the reason for redemption cards?  Why not just include the card in the box rather than having to send in this redemption card?
What happens if your letter with the redemption card gets lost in the mail or the same thing happens to the card they send to you?  It seems hoaky to do this.

I'll give you more hope when I pull a triple out of 3 boxes ;)

The redemption is because the people didn't sign their cards in time and get them back to Artbox before the release.

That was a great case!  2 creature cards 10 film cards :o 4 auto's and 2 costumes # less than 500.  That is pretty great.  I have one more case I am going to open Sat. if it is crap I will be very disappointed.  I am way overdue for a buckbeak or a prop card under 500.  Or at least a costume card under 730. I may have to keep just a couple cards and pay off a few of the cases.  I will need some of your luck and ztaylors to get some good pulls.  I don't even want to say what # case the last one is.

Beckham:

Think positive waves man!   :)   Did you ever see the movie Kelley's Heroes with Clint Eastwood and Donald Southerland?  Southerland plays "Oddball" the tank commander and is into positive thinking and throughout the movie is constantly telling his tank driver Moriarty to stop sending negative waves about the impossible situations they get themselves into in the movie!  

Same thing here - think positive - think triple, think top 4 cards!!  You can do it!!   :)  Good luck with your vase!

So close to being a good last case....but no auto's in the whole case.

BUT worst of all no auto's in the case at all :'(

Still have a couple packs left (from a different case) to open maybe I will pull a triple out of them ;) there is some postive thinking.  It is hard when you get a case with no auto's though (I can sympathize with Roz).   So much for "auto cards inserted 1:120 packs"    OR they could put also inserted 0:288 packs and one of the boxes had no box topper :-\ which I thought was strange.

Beckham:

You have had some hard luck with your Harry Potter cases for sure.  If I were you I would send an email to Artbox Customer Service outlining the total amount of money you spent on their product and listing or scanning the cards you got to show them you are not trying to pull a fast one and ask them if there is anything they can do Auto card wise to redeem themselves.  Like you stated, they list the odds of receiving an Auto in so many packs but when you don't get one in an entire case then something is drastically wrong on their end and I would try to hold them accountable as much as possible.  Like the old adage says "nothing ventured, nothing gained"!  Do you think it is worth trying this approach?    

Out of curiosity, has there been any news on the existance of hot boxes?

I have been thinking about doing that Savage.   I will try to count up and list a total of all my cards in this section anyway so it will be easy to do that.  It is great for some when the ratios are off but bad for others.  It seems for every case with extra autos and costumes or props it means someone else has to suffer by being shorted on their end.  

Of course you can't blame the people who get the extras in there case - it is certainly Artbox's fault (or the printer they use) for the poor collation.  Some of the sports card companies are so good that I have never been shorted on there inserts.  If they say three autos or memorabilia cards that is what you get (if your lucky you might get four) but never less than stated odds.  

I had four packs in a row that went 12 cards, 4 cards, 12 cards, 4 cards.  Each pack says 8 cards unless there is a insert card then there could be fewer.  Artbox better figure this out or people are going to continue to get mad and stop buying their products.

Upon instruction I watched the DVD last night and I couldn't see him in the black shirt :( I have one of each Lupin shirt and I think (from talking to people who opened a lot of cases) that they tended to get a fairly equal balance of black and grey.. so as yet I don't think one is rarer than the other - although if we all collect one of each we'll make it 2x as rare :P

The black material must be from a tie or sweater.  I can't imagine that his shirt was constructed from both fabrics sewn together.  

If you look at the picture on the card, can you tell what the dark material is that's visible between the collar of his suit jacket and the collar of his shirt?

Can you tell this is bothering me?  ;)

What about a waistcoat?

I have joined the forum following a bit of luck. I've only ever had one box of cards and I got it for this Prisoner of Azkaban collectors update, I received it this morning. I think I overpaid on the box price as it was £55...

However, it totally doesn't matter now as I have opened it - and I got a RON AUTOGRAPH CARD, a film cell with Harry on it and a Rosmerta Costume card.

So let me get this straight. Are these real authentic autographs?

SrisonS, the only picture I've found so far of the update Daily Prophet is from the base card set, #113.  It doesn't show the whole paper, just enough of it that I was able to find my swatch.

The Leaky Cauldron/HP Lexicon has a photo gallery with tons of pictures from the movie.  I haven't had time to go through it, but there could be a picture of it there.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to see more when I get the DVD at Christmas.  I think there was part of a scene where the Daily Prophet is on the Gryffindor table.

We sure need the cash for Christmas, to be honest I felt mad for spending so much money on paper but I really like the cards and I have never had a box of cards before. It was a good sample of beginners luck I think! I couldn't sell the Rosmerta card as I really like it but I am toying with the idea of selling the auto...

Outstanding pulls renrutha!!  :)  I would hold onto that Ron Auto card and let it appreciate in value before you decide to sell it.  If I was holding that card you would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands first!   ;)

Well, not all is lost...I'm giving one of the Quidditch costumes to my nephew for Christmas(trying to recruit the poor boy into the world of card collecting). Since he's a hugh Potter fan, I'm sure he'll love it.

Yes, touch!  I don't mind so much with the base cards, since I have so many of them.  But, if one of them got their hands on the Harry auto I know is lurking in one of the boxes ;), I think I would cry.

I told my husband about this and he said that maybe it was the first or last card that he signed.  Interesting to think about.  We pulled is auto as well and there is no star.

That is just plain crap.  At least you got 19 costumes though and not just 9 or 10.  But no autos, filmcells or props?  Something makes no sense to me on this one.

  I had 4 dud boxes out of one of my cases of the original POA product ...
  I sent them a nice , but still strong enough to show my frustration and disapointment , email with my receipts etc...

 About 2 months later I got a standard email saying basically "tough luck since all inserts are randomly inserted"

 they said everything was gone and that was it .....
   no "we're sorry " , no "we'll do something for you since you purchased 3 cases" ........ no nothing ....

 Hopefully you and others hit by problems with this product will make out better then I but unfortunately don't count on it ....

Unfortuantely, I do not think they will do anything but tell everyone the same thing, all are randomly inserted, however if enough people write to them, maybe for their next product, they will rethink what they need to do to satisfy people.  Maybe a guarantee of at least one per box, like Inkworks does.

I agree that they will not do anything unless really pressured and to apply real pressure you would need to have alot of people complaining to them.  I have not collected Harry Potter cards.  What does Artbox say on the box?  Do they say what you can expect to get in a box?

I dont see how they couldn't guarantee one insert per box with the POA update, honestly there were tons of costume cards as well as some props and film cells that im sure they could have given that guarantee.......

I think  artbox could guarntee at least one thing per box. it is not like they didn't have enough products It is very discouraging when you only buy 1 or 2 boxes and one of them is a dud
i think that it is totally unfair.
I think as a company they should  be able to do a lot better than they have and should be made to improve there way of ratioing so that at least each box has something. Plus they expect people to shell out alot of money for the cards so why can't they guarentee 1 insert per box i really don't think that that is a lot to ask from a company

The Artbox box states something in regards to odds, but says no gaurantee of any of these ratios to exhist within a box or case, or something like that.

I agree they should gaurantee one per box.  I only got three boxes originally, which turned in to 5 1/2 boxes later, but luckily none were duds.  3 only had one insert, but I ws happy not to get a dud.  ike McGonnagal, I would be really upset if I did get a dud.

The answer is - mostly by machine. There are checks and balances in place (at least at the company we use) to make sure that what's supposed to be in the box is there  - yes, there are times when something happens - the machine hiccups, etc. and there are occasional problems - without problems, I'd not have a job though :)

I know Artbox is doing the best they can - I believe they were unprepared for the onslaught of complaints they received. I know how quickly a backlog can form  - I currently have 3 bins of mail waiting for answers myself - so I can sympathize with them. This does not excuse their inaction however ...  They really need to quickly come up with a plan to either say "Yes, there should have been something in your box, let us send you x,y, and z." OR they need to be upfront and say "Sorry - nothing is guaranteed. There's nothing we can do."

But this constant making people wait for any kind of response just isn't acceptable :(

So if it is by machine, are there like mechanical hands that hold the cards?  I ntoice on both my Grim fur and hermione thick sweater card, that there is a little dent in the card, in the same place, same shape pratically. One I bought on eBay and the other I pulled from a pack myself, so I think it may have been during production since these cards are thicker than what they are used to.

Um, no I don't think the machine has hands- but everyone who handles the cards on the way to the machine does :)

There's a lot of work that goes into the production process before the cards even make their way to the plant to be put into packs and boxes.

But, I'm not in production so I don't have the expertise to answer specific question  :) I'm in customer service, so I only get to see damaged cards anyway!!

Hee hee - it's amazing how people can get the wrong end of the stick these days isn't it  ;D

Okay, see I used to work for a newspaper, and when sales inserts were put in the paper, there was a machine that "held" the inserts and dropped them inside each paper.  I thought maybe there was something that did something like this i order to get the cards in the packs.

Now how to the costumes and such get put in, bu hand?  And then how do they get the cards glued and pressed together.  This all fascinates me.

To the best of my knowledge (which I admit is limited) the costume pieces are put in by hand and then the top layer adhered to the bottom - like a sandwich.

Which explains why so many cards are askew (every company suffers the same problems - stripes going the 'wrong' way, etc.)

As for how the machines 'grab' the cards - I believe it's suction. Or it was back the first time we did sketch cards - because the suction left a circular mark on a lot of the cards. I'm not sure how it's actually done and our production manager is out having surgery

After plenty of sagas my case finally arrived - I was very tempted to just sell the boxes but the lure of was just too great - and I was very pleased. :)

Has anyone dealt with Artbox concerning damaged cards?  Do they respond and replace them?

Artbox will replace damaged cards if you contact them via email first and if they have any replacements left for the particular card.  It's my understanding that the supply is running low for the first set.

Goofyjas, you need to send an email to Artbox customer service explaining the problem with the card.  They'll get back to you about whether they have a replacement available and give you the address to send the damaged card.  It usually takes a week or two to hear from them.

I have sent a card back to them for replacement before.  Had no problems.

I agree.  Well, I did buy what was left of a box at my local comic shop.  I got 12 packs and got 1 filmcard from them.  Nothing really exciting though.  I am going to a card show in April and might buy another box or two. I will post my breakdowns if I do.

Hey guys, I apologize if I am interupting the current conversation.....but I was hoping you could help me out with a few questions (many of you seem so knowledgable), and I couldn't really find any recently viewed threads that dealt with newbies.

I am a college student from VA, so I dont really have that much money to invest at the moment.  But I am very interested in getting involved in collecting this update set.  The cards appear rich and detailed, and I would love to get my hands on a few of the costume/autos.  

I just recently became a fan of the Harry Potter movies, and have become obsessed with the entire universe.  As it is, I do have little or no knowledge about this card set.  However, I have become engrossed with this forum and have spent the last 5 hours just going through many of the topics that are listed.  Excellent job as this site is very well put together and extremly interesting.  (A bit too good and keeping me from my studies as well!)

I was hoping that someone could give me some insight as to how I could go about collecting this (or other) series.  As my name indicates, I am rather fond of emma watson and her character as hermione in the films....(I think I would do just about anything for one of her pink jumpsuit costume cards), but I am very interested in collecting the rest of the cards as well.  

Like I said, I'm only a poor college student, so I have at most 500$ to spend on these (that is if I am to eat salad for the next 3 months, lol) but would still be interested in investing a few hundred dollars.  However, as many of your forums indicate, I dont think I would get too far in a collection with this much money.  I am in no way looking to venture into this as profit, rather I am completely a fan of the series looking to collect these beautiful cards.  (Even though I do have the most wonderful crush on Emmaaaaaaa........lol).

What do you guys think I should do?  I'm not much up for ebaying and buying a few single cards....But it seems that many of you all have received much disappointment from the purchasing of several boxes.  

Aside from that, I wanted to introduce myself to this forum, and hope that I can become a regularly contributing member.  To those of you that spent the time reading this, thank you! and again I apologize if I have interupted anything.

Welcome to the forum - is that $500 US? Well if so you can get quite a nice and rich collection for that if you ask me, especially from this update set.

Although I am trying to go for a master set of this set myself - for LOTR my boyfriend Mark and I have got everything Aragorn/Elessar related and then one or two cards that we like - Gandalf's auto and costume etc. Nobody can dictate what you collect - that's totally up to you!

With $500 US Personally I think I would get one of the Hermione autos (either from the first set or the second since they are both very similar I would choose based on price and which card I prefered the look of, and then I'd collect a few other things. Off hand I can think of PoA classic - Hermione Robe /900 (you should be able to pick this up very cheaply - i.e. under $25), and also her pink jumper from the first set - seems to be around $75 at the moment which is definitely cheaper than in the past, From the update set there are more Hermione oriented things to choose from - her trousers, her scarf, and a repackaged version of the pink jumper from the first set.

You should definitely have change from your money set aside if you got the above cards, but maybe you'd like to get one or two of the more significant things of other characters too - like Draco Malfoy's robe, or a Harry costume, or a Ron costume.

The best place to muse around and make decisions on this is to look in the price guide - www.theyakshack.co.uk/trading cards - take a look at each card, note down the average recent price and see what fits in your budget!

Well... that's what I'd recommend doing anyway!

I agree that you can get a good deal of cards on eBay right now from this update set. Or, if you felt like driving to New Jersey in April, you could pick up some boxes at the card show.  I am sure you can still find them reasonably priced online as well, however, if it is Hermione cards you are after, you are better off buying them individually.

If you like the Hermione sweater from the first set, which is a very popular card, I do recommend eBay, as boxes from the first set cost over $100 and since there are only 450 of this card made, you are better off just buying the individual card.  

I bought a couple boxes from the update set and was not dissapointed, as I, like you, am a collector and was ahppy with every card I got.  Now, I am just buying more here and there on eBay, as the more you get, the better chancs of getting a duplicate in your boxes of those higher print run cards.

I agree with rsn91294,  if you don't have the funds, do not buy the boxes.  I had recently puchased 6 boxes of the original set and all I got were common costume and props.  I knew I shouldn't have bought the boxes, but I love opening the packs! ;D

I also bought cases and individual boxes of the update set (hoping to pull a triple auto - it didn't happen).  In the beginning it's fun because you're pulling cards you don't have, but after a while you keep pulling the same cards.  It gets real disappointing :'(!  If you don't believe me, look at my spares list in Diagon Alley!  It's also very expensive (I have the Visa bill to prove it)! :o

If you like the thrill of opening packs, you could buy just one box.  I've seen prices below $60 on eBay.  It seems to me that the people who were happiest with their boxes bought less than a case (10 boxes).  But for the rest of your collection, buying the individual cards is the way to go.

You mentioned you don't care for eBay.  Why not take a look at the sale/trade posts in the Diagon Alley section of the forum?  I think most people are willing to entertain cash offers for their cards, even if they want to trade.  You might be able to get most of the cards you want from one or two forum members, and avoid eBay entirely.  As Roz said, you can use the price guide to get an idea of what others are paying for their cards.

I'd like to thank all of you.......everyone has been so helpful after my first post that I am certainly interested in getting more involved in this forum.  When I first stumbled upon these cards on ebay, I didn't think I would have anyone else to share the joy of a collection with.  But you are all so enthusiastic, that it makes me want to buy that first box as soon as I can.  

I'm now a 21 year old college student, and I've been out of the trading card loop for sometime now.  When I was much younger, I spent the largest portion of my money on comic cards (DC and Marvel Comics) and Basketball cards.  Amassing thousands of cards and many complete sets, I look at them now and realize that they have no monetary value, but are invaluable in my memory of the thrill of collecting.  It has been several years since I have even opened a pack of cards, it just seemed that I had little interest or knowledge of the sets that were released (and the majority of my money was funneled into video games).  But when I saw these cards, their was something different about them, and I just have the most incredible urge to rip some of those packs open to see what secrets lay inside.......just like the good old days.

When I was younger, I couldn't wait for the days when I would be able to  afford purchasing large quantities of cards.  I had forgotten that dream until now......and as I do have a somewhat steady job in between classes, I hope I can make the kid inside me happy.  

Any thoughts or info on future Harry Potter card sets or releases?  I have read through much of the forums and learned a great deal.  But I am thinking about collecting a few of the cards or grabbing a box or two from the POA releases, but really saving my money up for GOF.   If I do that, then I think I could buy a case or two and really enjoy the collecting and opening of hundreds of packs.  I don't know if GOF will have the same popularity/design/beauty/inserts of these sets, so I am somewhat hesitant in waiting.

That is how I discovered them with my husband.  We aren't too much older than you and since we have all these bills to pay, I am struggling to get these cards since I am completely broke.  But once we saw them (the first we saw was Hermione's pink sweater) we were hooked.  Now, hundreds of dollars later...........

I stumbled across this forum and think I have actually met one of my closest friends on it.  It is wonderful to find other people who share the joy of collecting these cards.  especially since we are all adults.  I thought people would think I was crazy wanting to collect HP cards. But everyone here is wonderful, as you already found out.


I would definitely buy a box or two from this set.  That will give you a full base set and a couple nice inserts, at least.  Then, buy the ones you really want and save the rest of your money for GOF.  I think Artbox will do the same for GoF as they did PoA and I think it too will be a nice looking set of cards.   You may even want to buy a base set from the original PoA release just to have them.

It is funny you mention saving your money for GoF, as I like to say the same thing, but I have learned, with my terrible addiction to these cards, I don't even know what saving money is anymore ;)

Well, Ive just busted open my fifth and final box, after having it sitting on the lounge room floor since November.

I picked up two boxes off of Ebay last Thursday(thanks to all of you that messaged me about auctions) and am still waiting for them to arrive from Floriday (I live in Virginia, so it shouldnt be much longer).
I can't even begin to explain how excited I am to tear them open and really start up my collection.  
Blackcat,  I really hope that I'm able to pull a costume and auto in one of my boxes!  Just praying that they aren't both duds.....lol.

I only opened five boxes, and got at least one insert in each box.  Mostly high production number costume cards, but its better then nothing. Good luck, and enjoy the opening-thats what keeps me buying more boxes, even when is probably cheeper just to buy the cards I want  :P

I love that thrill of opening a pack.....each one could have anything inside.  I'm hoping to save up and purchase 2 or 3 cases for the next set (GoF I'm thinking).  But I suppose that all depends on what kind of inserts will be offered.  If the costume and auto cards are as nice as this set, I'm a little worried that I will have empty pockets come November.

Yup, me too.  I can't wait for the card show so that I can buy more boxes, even though I am at the point where I may end up getting duplicates, but I would be able to sell or trade, I'm sure.

Hey guys, just wanted to update you on my pack openings.  My two update boxes arrived today.  The first pack I opened had a Cedric costume card.  I know that many of you would probably be disappointed with that pull.......but I am so excited just to pull a costume card.  I was pumped just to open a pack with some success.  However, I am expecting that will be about my only pull from this box.  I have opened ten packs so far, getting this costume and a foil.  So I'm really happy already.  Ahhh just the love of opening packs.
I really want to open all the packs from both boxes.....but I hesitate because I know as soon as I finish off these two, I'm just going to want to buy several more. LOL.  I can see why you are all so addicted.  Well, welcome one more to your ranks!  I plan on being around for quite a while.

yes, so after opening those ten packs I layed down to go to bed.  Then I decided to open just two more......then just three more.  And eventually I just tore into both boxes and finished them off. LOL I just had to know what was in those packs.

Sounds like you had fun! At least there were no dud boxes, and you got three inserts out of two boxes, so thats pretty good.  I've actually pulled those same two costume cards from my first couple of boxes, and though they are high numbered, there are still only ~2000 in the world so its still kinda cool.

Thats great Aaron. They are nice cards even though they are high numbered, and opening the boxes is the most exciting part!! I pulled those costumes out of my boxes too, looking at it from a monetary point of view I am disappointed, but for quality and the excitement of opening packs, I would do it all over again!  ;)

Yep you are right - the dud boxes must be less common, though I hit a few myself but it doesn't hit you so hard if you are buying on a case scale.

I love opening the pack and then peering in to see if it's got a costume/prop/film card in... if so I smile and open it all up. If there's nothing to see (by the thickness of the card) then I open and see if there's an auto to be found :)

My husband and I open the packs and don't peek in.  We look at each card and hope the next one will be a costume or prop or auto.  Makes it exciting.  I guess we all have our ways of doing it, huh?

Emmafan, not sure about the hairs on the costume.  I will have to look at mine when I go home.

David Thewlis is a fine actor and he did a great job in the movie, but would anyone really want to clone him? ::) Sorry, he's just not the way I pictured Lupin from reading the books.

Well he would himself obviously - so he can send his clone to work and he can sit at home doing DIY... or something :)

I know I expected him to be thinner, taller, younger (but look tireder) and not have a moustache.... although I might have missed that in the books.

His girlfriend is going to have a baby, so maybe he'd want a clone to change diapers! ;D

I thought he'd look thinner, much more shabby (they definitely didn't play up the poor angle in the movie) and no moustache.  Sirius is described as being much taller than Snape, but Gary Oldman is on the short side.  Oh well, you can't have everything!

Even though you miss out on the small things I think both David and Gary are perfect for the roles of Lupin and Sirius. David struck me by surprise, he was not what I imagined yet he seemed to carry the role perfectly and now I can not even remember the image of Lupin that I had in my head, David did a great job.

And Gary Oldman, well what can I say, he was just perfect too  ;) I didnt really see any differences between the book and Gary's portrayal of the character, he fitted perfectly into the image of sirius!!

You guys are so lucky. I havent even bought a box yet and I call my self a collecter :(. I dont really call opening my very first pack of updated cards and getting a costume right then and there lucky :(. But getting a harry card was one of the ones I wonted so thats a little luck :D

Mike, i should mention that there is "of course" only one card in my set that was found in one of my 10 boxes. The Sleeping Bag. The other cards are all bought from ebay. Hmmm. Or did i pull the Grim Fur? Hmmm. Really, i have forgotten.  ::)

OK, about a month ago I went to the mall to have dinner at Ruby Tuesdays like we always do every two weeks. And thats when I found my first costume card. The Harry Potter Retail Only card. I opened that at the table in the restraunt and didnt even think about it and started to freak when I saw the little piece of clothing. People where stairing at me because I stood up :D :D so I quickly sat down after about five minutes of drooling. I showed it to my mom and sister before rolling it up in the pack I got it in and smashing it between two trading cards and hiding in the deep part of my bag.

So a month later, February 22, 2005, I go to the mall again for dinner this time at Charleys Grilled Subs for a hot and toasty Philly Cheese Steak :P. So I was walking past Suncoast and thought "What the heck, why not seven more *my lucky number*". So, I buy seven more and go off to eat.

On the way home I start to open them in the car and what happens to be in the second pack I open....

Yes that's very true FTY, and I agree that I really want a Philosopher's Stone Prop card too - however even if the folk at Artbox got such an item they wouldn't want to call it the Philosopher's stone (with all the excitement of the associated alchemy etc) they'd want to call it a Sorcerers Stone card... which I think would ruin it for all of the rest of the world..

Alas - we folks never get what we want... so I'll just have to dream too.

That is easy - most Harry costume cards (Quidditch and even the exclusive card) are very cheap - you could pick one up for $10 of you wanted to :)

As Roz well knows, I have base sets, box-toppers and chase cards all over the place.  I did find some cool boxes to help me sort the cards.  They only come in sets of 25 boxes with lids for $24.75.  The shipping is expensive though (the cardboard's heavy) but they sure are handy!  Here's the link if anyone is interested:

Oh that looks like a help. So did you sell all the base sets or is that everyones Christmas and birthda ypressies for years to come if they like Harry Potter or not?

Unlikely to find some who wants all of them. I never sold anything on ebay, thought about it but not really sure how it all works. Mind you I seem to have the buying down to a fine art :P Also the endless trips to the post office. Actally we're getting quiet friendly with our posty as he's always here getting us to sign for my stuff. Was snowing the other day (as it has been a lot lately) and he gave us our post and forgot my parcel so had to trudge back down the road again poor love  :(

Maybe you could give the cards to a dentist. The dentist might not seem so scarey if their HP cards in it. Actaully I wish my dentist did that lol no I went the other day and I was a very good girl lol

Unfortunately, update base sets usually don't sell on eBay.  There are just too many available.

I don't have anywhere near as many cards as Anna, but I plan to put the extras in my Halloween treat bags for the tricker-or-treaters.

Both of my base sets came from ebay, although the update one was rather cheap.

Of course, that only works if you get more than five kids knocking on the door!  We generally get 25-30, so I'll be divying up my extras accordingly.

wow that is a great way to get rid of cards. The kids will love them but you might try and see if the red cross would like some as they could give them to kids in tsumara affect areas.
