: Potter for Bond??
: Nienna September 07, 2005, 03:44:17 AM
I noticed the following article on the ntlworld.com homepage earlier this evening and thought others would like to see it.
I will cut and paste it here as the links never stay active very long ...

Young Bond role up for grabs

Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell and Harry Potter favourite Daniel Radcliffe are battling it out to land the role of the young James Bond in a new movie about the secret agent's teenage years.

The movie will be adapted from the novel Silverfin written by The Fast Show's Charlie Higson and centres around Bond as a 13-year-old at the prestigious public school Eton.

"With it being so popular around the world, the book is certain to make the big screen," a source commented. "It has all the hallmarks of a hit. Murder, mystery, action and a young James Bond. Daniel Radcliffe would be perfect but they are also looking at Jamie Bell. They want to make the young Bond a bit older so they can have one of those two names."

Wonder if it will ever happen? :o

I did have a thread about Harry for Bond can't find it though. Although I do have the picture that went with it ;

The article I posted had a pic of Jamie Bell rather than Dan, so I didn't bother with it!
Looks like Harry is in mid-hex on your one though (thanks for posting it by BTW)  ;) :P

Just in case we've forgotten what Daniel looks like ;)

Jamie Bell's also done King Kong with Peter Jackson :) so he's not a nobody/one hit wonder, however I can't see him having the right suave sophistication for Bond but we'll have to wait and see, I think Dan could do it ;D

Out of the two of them I could see Dan being able to pull it off and lets face it, he's making a fine looking young man ... sorry Jamie, you just don't have the 'it' factor IMHO! ::) ;)

(I thought the picture was very Bond like)

Yes Dan is growing up very nicely. Although I'm not sure what I think of a teen Bond :-\ will he still have the women and the aston martin. Mind you I'm not a great Bond fan anyway.

: Re: Potter for Bond??
: Nienna September 08, 2005, 02:40:59 AM
I can't be arsed with any of the Bond films/merchandise ... bores the pants off me altogether!
I doubt he'll have an Aston Martin and the women ( :o ) but that very much depends on what age they make him doesn't it? To have such a lovely car and drive it himself would mean he would have to be 17 or older to legally drive it on the roads ... any younger and the 'old bill' (as opposed to tiny lil) would have him! :P
On the same subject of legalilty ... he would have to be 16 or over to legally get 'up close and personal' to the laydeez otherwise old bill would be feeling his collar once again! ::) :P
Should be interesting to see what they do with the role .....

James Bond is a slut. I mean, in every movie he sleeps with someone so a Young Jame Bond series wouldnt make it. Look at what happened to the Yound Indian Jones series, only one movie made.

: Re: Potter for Bond??
: Morningangel-Iola September 08, 2005, 02:46:35 AM
Yes thats the problem. See to be at Eton he'd have to be fairly young. But to do real Bond things he'd probably have to be 18ish, so I don't know. Would be interesting.

Maybe they can change it up a bit and make it where James is this lame nerdy guy that no one gives a second glance and then he joins then he gets a make over or something like that

That's actually a really good idea!

You folks in America are going to love to see Dan Radcliffe in an Eton uniform... I don't think the British lasses would mind much either ;)

Is Eton the lovely tails and pin strip trousers or am I thinking of somewhere else?

He does actually go to a Public School doesn't he (why do we called them Public  ::) ) although I don't think its Eton.

Oh dear, the images it conjures!!

I'm not sure which school he attends though - they kept that bit of info very quiet for fear of hoardes of female fans lying in wait for the poor lad. ::)
I bet he's just got his GCSE results this year too - he IS 16 after all!
Wonder if he'll continue with Sixth Form, then College or University or just say *pft* and carry on with his film work?
I've not heard a whisper about what exams he's sat nor his results - would be interesting to find out though ... :P

Well he could always study with the Open University like I do, lots of actors do that as it can fit around thier work. Lenny Henry is currently working on his BA I believe.

Good point, though I would think Dan's parents would probably push him to get his education done and dusted so he can concentrate on his acting career. ;)
I know all the kids on set had tutoring - had to by law - so I wonder if Sixth form would be an option for him or something more on the lines of one-on-one personal tutoring to fit in with his acting?

I would imagine the studio would do whatever the kids want.

But as for Dan as Bond?  My answer would be no one for Bond!  The last thing we need is another James Bond film for ITV to put on a continual repeat loop.  They should have learnt that young anything doesn't work.  Now I liked young Sherlock, young Hercules and even young Indiana but I am in a minority.

So please no young Bond, OAP Bond, Bond the embryo or even child of Bond (you can just see that coming!)

I trouble is would his career be affected if he continued his education without working at the same time. Although has jsut GOT to do all the Harry's.

He could be Basildon Bond I suppose .... :P

There's nothing to stop him from taking an A-level at a time ... though that would be torture for him do them like that. I'm also not too sure about how much he will be allowed to be in filming once he's 16 - I would suspect it would be more given that his formal education could finish at the age he is now.
It would be fantastic if he was willing and able to complete his role of filming all the books, with Rupert and Emma alongside him for the ride of course - but if he decides that his education HAS to come first no matter what then that's that! :-\
I'm hoping that more will come out about this when the GoF film is released and he gets interviewed during the inevitable promotional tour - let's hope someone thinks to ask him that's all. ::)

: Re: Potter for Bond??
: Morningangel-Iola September 11, 2005, 04:12:39 AM
Well we know for sure he's doing Order of the Phoenix ;D so then there is only HBP and ? to go after that, would it really be worth missing the last two of the whole series. After all the acting game is a fickle master, it would be unwise to turn down to definate film roles. As you say now he's 16 he will be able to work longer, so then hopefully filming can be done quicker.

: Re: Potter for Bond??
: Nienna September 11, 2005, 04:34:22 AM
Well that's partly true on him being able to be on the film set for longer each day, but that can't be siaid to be true for Emma though as she's younger! :-\
I'm sure the studio/director et al  know what they're doing because of the strict legal requirements they have to meet. ;)
I know you say that his filming can be completed quicker because he can film for longer, but just bear in mind how much of the plots of the later books is given over solely to him and the complexity of some of the stunts he'll no doubt be asked to (or will offer to do) for the film, then I very much doubt it will get done any faster than it is now. ::)

It does depend of course what they do with the plots both order nad HBp are rather big so there is going to be some mega cuts. We'll just have to see, but if Mr Radcliffe should come across this, we are behind you what ever dear ;D

Just found this on Godrics Hollow :(

IFP Shoots down Radcliffe as a Young Bond
Yes, yes, all the fangirls squealed in delight when they heard that Dan was considered as the next young bond. However, Ian Fleming Publications Ltd (IFPL) has issued a statement via their official website, quashing down these rumors.

Counter-intelligence

Miss Moneypenny has detected a number of unsubstantiated rumours originating from unofficial intelligence sources regarding IFPL projects so she's taking this opportunity to clarify a few matters for all our agents:

Young Bond film: without meaning to disparage Mr Radcliffe or Mr Bell, IFPL is not currently discussing the film rights in its Young Bond property with anybody. Official news on major Young Bond developments will be announced here or through our sister website www.youngbond.com

Alas, another one of those juicy rumors saw its last day…
