After getting the email from Potomac that they're now taking GOF pre-orders, I wrote to Artbox to see if they have any info about the set.  Here's the response:

We are still finalizing the details of the contents, but as soon as it's confirmed, it'll be informed through our distributors and also on our website too.

I just feel sorry for retailers who probably have to put their name down on how many cases they want soon... with literally no info!

I agree.  At this point, they should at lest have the info all mapped out to give to their distributors,  Numbers and everything.  If they do not want to announce it to the general public yet, fine, but distributors have a right to know.

I want detailed info before I commit to buying anything from this set, so hopefully Artbox will get their collective fingers out and get on with sorting it out and in turn let ppl like Tom/Julio/Darren et al. know the numbers/insertion ratios, auto signers, costume/relic cards etc and exactly *what* will be in the boxes/cases!! ::)

Sorry, due to past performance I cannot even believe they expect us to believe this.  I just checked Artbox's website.  Last update was in June, with a promise of weekly updates...  New product announcement is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but no information about any inserts but the foils.

Sorry, but Artbox could not communicate if they tried.  And to rely on the distributors is shakey at best, because if the news is bad then it is in their best interest to not mention it...

I love the cards they put out, but they cannot continue to produce sets without telling folks what is in it and expect orders to pour in.

I hope this set will be like SS. I'd hate to be getting a case and pull only two cards >:( but I think Artbox learned from that

Just a rumor at this point, but it sounds like they are wanting to make more cases/boxes of this set than SS because the movie will be coming out.  I still don't think that will affect the demand as much as some think.  I am sure a few collectors will come on board, but I think many have changed there collecting strategy to buying singles and leaving the case/box breaks to others.  I wish I didn't enjoy the thrill of the pull so much, because it is probably much smarter to buy the singles.

Heck even if you want to get cases or boxes after the fact it doesn't seem to be that hard if you know where to look.  I hope they don't overproduce this I think I will be cutting my order back a little especially with lost from inkworks on the horizon.

Produce more!!!  You know, so many people, like Tom, still have plenty of SS boxes left.  And after all the stuff that is going on, they will be lucky if all their dealers make them sell out again!!  I too think the movie will not play any role in this.

This is the same problem they had with POA Update.  Arbox saw the way the POA set sold and figured they could just make more and everyone would still buy it.  Does not work that way.

I sure hope they don't print more than SS, or we're going to be swimming in the stuff! :o=

Couldn't agree more Ed, and I believe that several of their more influential distributors are trying to convince them of this - but you know Artbox - they are a law unto only themselves, I'm definitely not putting any money down on this yet, there's not the slightest chance I'll "miss out" because there is always plenty!

That was My Wife's opinion. Like I said We are pretty much done but there might be a couple of things She will want especially if Ralph Fiennes signs. I just have a bad feeling that this will be a POA update and not a Sorcerers Stone as far as number of boxes. I hope I am wrong.

Somewhere around 40 days to release and still nothing on the Artbox website.  Does anyone know anything?

I have heard rumors of 600 cases being produced, and 1100 cases being produced. I REALLY Hope that the first estimate is correct, or the number actually being made it closer to 600 than 1100.

Ah, jeez, we're 40 days away from the "supposed" release date (dollars to donuts it gets pushed back, just like SS), and we still have not to show for it information-wise but a few rumors and speculations? Oh whow, but what sad days are these.  (:D# (that pirates smiley needs to be crying to something like this)

yeah it is pretty sad that Artbox somehow aquires the licence to a HUGE franchise like this, and then can't even keep their web-site updated.

Well, that's to be expected from Artbox by now; I'm more surprised and worried that the distributors haven't received a few sheets saying what some of the prop/costume/auto inserts might be. We had at least one or two of those by this time before SS, didn't we?

Yes, I believe we did. There WERE sell sheets at Comic-Con, however, they did not say ANYTHING about the particulars of the set. Just the normal "will contain autographs costume prop and filmcards" Artbox is a really kind of pathetic company...I mean I understand their two largest competators are Inkworks and Topps (because Upper Deck is even worse) but still, Topps handled LOTR and Batman Begins VERY WELL and so far they have done Star Wars extremly well also. I understand they have Decades of experience over Artbox but still, I know if I ran a company with the rights that they have, I would be working my BUTT off to get buzz going for the project with a sell sheet with some dang prop or costume pictures.

Especially since some of the distributors are starting to take orders.  Artbox isn't helping anyone sell this set.  It just isn't very smart, considering the POAU fiasco and the less-than-expected SS sales.

As for the Artbox website, it's a disgrace.  There's still no info about SS. :o  Is it possible that web designers are in short supply in southern California?  I doubt it. ::)

Yes, I suppose they are. Not to mention the rumors of a 1100 case run, which means they may be doing the same thing they did with PoAU after PoA. *sigh* Sad, sad.

Since I like being a big pain in the butt, I've sent Artbox another email asking for details about the set.  I'll post whatever response they send.

Well at least their reply didn't refer us to their web site for information. :P  You'd think that they would already have the confirmations and approvals by now. :-\

With a company as big as Warner Bros., we can only guess what sorts of procedures are in place and how long it takes to get approvals. :-\

I would be ALMOST willing to bet a case of GOF that it sure won't be 600 cases.  I would bet more, I wouldn't think they would have the nerve to make 1100 cases and if they did we would see a lot of $5-$10 costume/prop cards 4 weeks after the release.  I would think considering it must be a lot easier to get props and costumes from GOF than the supposed shortage of items to choose from for SS they would certainly make more cases of GOF.

If there was 800 cases of SS I am guessing 900 or 1000 cases of GOF.  Just a guess we will see...hey that should be a contest place your guess.

What?!? Call me crazy, but you think that would have been sussed out at the same time as they were getting all them fancy pants props from Warner Brothers (that they so proudly displayed at Comic Con). I may be loony as a a seagull at the dump, but I would figure that, hey if they already got the Costumes and Props used in the BLOODY FILM from Warner Brothers, they had already done what they needed for WB. *sigh* Mayhaps I am just too naive.  |:#
