Hi Roz

Thanks to Artbox,  they had such a great deal on at San Diego with the Lucky Bags,   50 bags available each day 4 days (200 Total),  each containing a Binder, Factory Sealed Box, Tin set, Promos,  + Loose Case Card, Prop and Autos all for $50 a bag.  As you can imagine after the first day when word got around there were lines around the block for them!

Some great cards pulled, everyone seemed over the moon with what they got,  JohnTheHat pulled a Daniel Radcliffe Auto from his bag, that made his day.

Hats off to Artbox for providing the public something different and fantastic value

Cheers

Richard

I don't know about that.  By "public," I guess you mean the dealers, distributors, and major collectors who can afford airfare, hotel, meals and other costs to fly to San Diego and attend the show.  It certainly doesn't benefit average collectors who keep those people and Artbox in business.  I think those cards, particularly rare ones like the Harry auto, should have been inserted in boxes, so that the general public -- the regular, everyday collectors -- would have had a better shot at getting one.

Sorry but I have to disagree,

The majority of those in attendance at San Diego are general collectors, The costs of the show are very reasonable for $65 for a 4 day pass, and many of the collectors who go make back what it costs them with the givaways and show exclusives

As for travel costs involved in getting there, no more than getting to any other event really,  It did not cost me anything as I get free travel, but the "General Collectors" who came with me found the prices reasonable, and are already planning to revisit next year. (Flights only £399 including tax for those London to Las Vegas) Drove down to San Diego from there, Had a nice hotel 12 miles south of the show for $48 a night, then after the show made it a vacation trip by taking the people with me to LA, San Fran, and then back to Vegas for a few days.

I don't think it's right that Artbox promotes the inserts to entice people to buy the product, but instead of putting them in the boxes, they take the best ones and basically give them away.  And yes, $50 for a sealed box, a binder, a case card, a costume, and a prop or auto is a giveaway.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you personally, Richard.  I'm glad you had a great time and were able to make the trip into a vacation. :)  However, that really isn't an inexpensive trip when you add up everything, plus whatever a person would spend at the show.  There are many, many people who can't attend.

If Artbox was determine to offer grab bags like that, it would have been better PR to offer them through a lottery on their website, so that many people would have had a chance to get them, instead of just the people who were able to attend the show.

Without sounding too much like a grouch I am with Cindy on this one.  I bet not many of the goody bags were snapped up by general collectors, more likely those in the know.  As for the cards in the goody bags, I wouldn't have so much of a problem if they were all cards that were done just for the bags.  As someone who had a lot of dud boxes it miffs me to think the cards I didn't get were held back for these bags.

I would also feel happier about these bags if they were available at other shows.  I know San Diego is a big show but we have big ones in the UK as well.  Anyone ever been able to buy a goody bag from Artbox in the UK or the rest of Europe (or Australia for that matter).

many of the collectors who go make back what it costs them with the givaways and show exclusives

Can't honestly say it makes me feel any better knowing this.  Sorry.

I agree that cards that are for the set should be in the boxes, but look at it this way

Most of the cards that were given away in the grab bags were.

1: MultiCase Incentive Cards, so there is no way the general collector would have got these as they were not in boxes, the ones I got were the wand 10 case incentive and the New York Exclusive card, it would make sense for artbox to get rid of any extras they had this way, as it was a way for collectors to get them without having to order mega amounts of cases,

2: Autos, most of the autos that seemed to be coming out of the bags were the ones that needed to be redeemed (There were some exceptions to this), so again it would make sense that any left overs after the redemption card offer expirred were put into circulation this way, as some redemption cards are never redeemed, and it would be a waste for the cards not to be used.

3: Case cards,  these would just be extras and again just a good way of getting rid of extras

Just my assumptions, but this is what I think, the extra cards like the Harry auto ect, were probably extras that were held back to cover any returns of damaged cards for exchange, and now the product is old they have decided to clear what they have left (Just my thoughts may not be correct).  SO I don't think Artbox have done anything but provide a really good service by circulating items people would never have got elsewhere

As for the Show,  yes San Diego is expensive during the show (100,000 people are going to push up hotel prices!), but its a great event and every collector should try and do it once, some of the big companies were doing great giveaways,  got some lovely Stargate Pens and necklaces,  Some super pewter mini lightsabres from Lucas.  It was a really good 4 days to meet some great collectors (And some real weirdos!

I do see your points and would agree on what you say, but if you see it the way I do it has just put extras of tough cards into circulation that otherwise would have done nothing

As for Fair distribution of the bags, Artbox distributed them at 11am giving everyone a chance to be in the building, they made it a strict one per person a day rule, and as most people who wanted the lined up early this ruled out a lot of the dealers as they had other things to do!.

Compare that to Inkworks who were doing a Family Guy Sketch card, people lined up to get a ticket, and Allen pulled out known dealers from the line gave them tickets and turned away general collectors in the line in front of them,  Now that I would say was Very Unfair and created a bad image!

I don't think it was right for Artbox to be handing out case insentive cards or NY exclusive cards.  I dont think it makes any sense at all to "get rid" of the extras.  Why did they even call these cards incentive & exclusive?  Now they are niether.  The whole point to those cards was that they weren't available in packs and dealers/collectors had to make a considerable purchase to get them.  I just think Artbox is giving thier dealers the shaft by handing out those cards in $50 bags.  The most fair way for a collector to get them is to buy them from a dealer or someone who ordered 10 cases.  Of course now that SDCC attendees have them on the market, will I stay away and not try for one?  Of course not, it would be kind of stupid not to try to snag a deal since they're already out there, but I think Artbox blew it on this one.  :(

The PoA update cards are not OLD.  The redemptions are still valid on the PoAU through November of this year, and there are still many unopened boxes out there for people to get.

Also, Artbox only attends certain shows.  This is one of the few they actually do.

At Wizard World in Philadelphia (which they do not go to), Nintendo did a raffle for a free Nintendo DS.  You got a ticket and waited for your number.  You had to be present to win.  I think if Artbox wanted to do giveaways, this would have been a better way to do it.  One nice prize per day, you pick up a raffle, and be present when the drawing is made.  Maybe even sell the tickets for $5 a raffle.  Serious HP cllectors are going to buy a ticket, or 10 ;)

But they sell these boxes alone for $50 plus (I know cases get discounts) and to sell all of this for $50 when people do get dud boxes, yet they do not compensate those people in any way is not fair.

I also feel that people who do not collect HP would have jumped on this deal at the show.  I again do not think this is fair. As those who really enjoy collecting this set, are stuck buying boxes or cases just to get the cards they want.

Of course, good for you!!  And don't get me wrong, if I was able to be there, I would have jumped on the deal too, but I do collect this set.  In fact, my husband and I each would have probably bought one a day, but again, I was not there and could not do this.

maybe we should ask artbox for a could of dozen lucky bags for the yah shack lmao as if

I think there are for more better was to promote a product than the limited way they did it.

If i could find a way i would complain straight to rowlings she might not be able to do much but then again she might

Artbox is just doing what Artbox has probably always done...which just makes it all that much more disturbing, if you ask me.

These cards are from the current Harry Potter set and they should not have been allowed to placed in these grab bags.  There are dealers currently trying to sell these incentive cards on ebay and with Artbox is just giving them away is inexcusable.  Why should a dealer purchase mutiple cases of Artbox's product for the incentives?  I think Artbox is shooting themselves in the foot, because if I was a dealer, I would think twice about placing another large order with them. >:()

If the autographs weren't redeemed, they should have been destroyed.  By giving the autos away, Artbox in essence increased the total number of available autographs in circulation.  This affects the market value of the cards.  What was Artbox thinking when they did this?  Collectors who have acquired these rare autographs at very high prices now find that their prized auto has now devalued overnight. >:()

3: Case cards,  these would just be extras and again just a good way of getting rid of extras

Again, case cards are incentive cards but on a smaller scale.  Why would a collector want to buy a case of product if Artbox will give the incentive cards away?  I myself purchase cases and I've always thought of the case cards as a special treat, but since Artbox is giving them away, why should I bother buying cases anymore?

My comments are not directed to you personally Richard.  I'm just mad at Artbox for doing what they did to the Harry Potter market! >:()

Agreed. There shouldn't be any "extras", if it's not going in the top of the case, or it's not being sent to Warner Bros then it shouldn't have been produced.

I don't know if they should destroy the cards that were autos by redemption, although there is still plenty of time left to redem them, but instead, maybe give them to dealers, like Tom, who purchase so much of their product to begin with. I mean, help out the people who are helping them make the most money, you know?  I would love to know how some dealers feel about this.

And Richard, I am also not against you.  Like I said, if I was there......I would have bought them too.  I am just upset that Artbox went about it this way.

No problem, I don't think you are against me  ;)

Its nice to hear other peoples opinions on the situation, just because we don't have the same opinion is not a bad thing,  Be a darn boring world if we did!

Giving extra cards to certain dealers can cause problems,  Tom is in a class of his own, (I dealt with Tom Jr at Parsippany Show since 1996 for a few years and I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer guy behind any table at a show anywhere), but some dealers would just take advantage.

I still think this was a nice way for Artbox to give something to show goers,

Cheers all for the comments,

Richard

Parsippany?  Is that Dee's show in the Meadowlands (NJ)?  If so, I go there too!!  I also have delt with Tom Jr on many occasions, and his co-worker Mike.  Very nice people indeed.

No not that one

Tom used to do the Parsippany NJ Show at the PAL on Baldwin off Rt46 every Tuesday Evening (As did Dee). We went ot that a lot from 1996 to 2000,   from what I understand its not so good now, and there is not much non sport now.  I have not been to it for a couple of years as I work out of Las Vegas most of the time now.

As far as I know it still runs, but mainly as a Sports Card Show, I spoke to a dealer at San DIego who said he still went every now and again

It was Tuesday Nights from 5pm at the Police Athletic League Building on Baldwin Rd off Rt46.

If you are in that area it would be worth popping along one Tuesday evening you never know,
