Editors from The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet flew to Scotland to interview JK last weekend.  The first of the three-part interview is now up at TLC.  There are spoilers in the story.

There are some very interesting tidbits on Sirius, Dumbledore, Snape, the Ron/Hermione ship, R.A.B., Peeves, Voldemort, and why Draco is skilled at Occlumency.  The third and final installment of the interview will go up on Friday.

I haven't finished reading yet, but get this

JKR: "You know, that was the last Quidditch match. I knew as I wrote it that it was the last time I was going to be doing a Quidditch match."

So is it really over? Is Hogwarts really closed for book 7?

Not necessarily.  Quidditch has been cancelled before (for the Triwizard Tournament).  The school could be open, but Quidditch deemed to dangerous because there would be too many students out in the open.

Well if Harry isn't going back (I hope he is) he won't be playing even if he does he has other things to do with his time. I seem to remember somewhere McG said Dumbledore had foreseen then end of Hoggies  :'(

I have been reading the interviews (thanks for the links  ;D ).  But now for my usual silly question time.  What are shippers.  They go on about them quite a lot.  Are they just HP worshippers or something more specific?

I think McG just meant that DD was willing to shut the school in COS so was aware it was possible.

There should be some action at Hogwarts, for sure; that's where Hagrid and Grawp will be, as well as (regardless of other speculations) Dumbledore's portrait. I think we will see some resolution of the Trelawney/Firenze thread. And perhaps there's some more uses for the pensieve. Without Hogwarts, I can't see how JKR will bring in the Ravenclaw connection. That's not saying that the next book will be subtitled "Year 7 at Hogwarts."

I see the school as a place that the main student characters who are distracted with other things can come for intensive tutoring, but you won't have a regular school schedule for them. Not everybody will be out on quests, and Hogwarts is still a good deal for all of the lower class students. Without Dumby to add his unique protections, though, you won't see many large group activities like Quidditch. There's got to be some way to set up trips to Hogsmeade; we'll certainly see more of Abelard and maybe Rosmerta.

Of course we've been wrong before.  ;)

Sharon they are people that put two charaters together. Usually in fan fics but often just there views. For example you can tell I am a massive Lupin/Tonks shipper. But there are also Lupin/Sirius shippers out there (who are now bitterly dissapointed). Get it?

Well JK said there would definately have to be a new DADA teacher next year. So that would indicate that Hoggies would be open in some copasity. However they will also need a new Transfig teacher and head of Gryffindor house and McG will be rather busy me thinks. I feel there is too much at Hoggies to avoid it completely there was obviously something Tom Riddle wanted there, maybe there is something still in the chamber of secrets.

Aw, you know what happens with dogs and wolves.  Just do a little sniffing when you meet a new friend, and all of sudden everybody gets the wrong idea.  8)

Where is number three?

HP may be a children's book, but fan fiction is a whole other world!  The Sirius/Lupin shippers are particularly vehement, but there are people who pair Dumbledore/McGonagall, Hermione/Ginny, Harry/Ron, Harry/Draco, and even Dumbledore/Giant Squid. ::)

Some interesting questions raised in this interview.

" at least one of the Horcruxes will have been correctly identified by careful re-readers of the books." I think we've identified the locket (the one in Sirius' house) and the goblet/cup is pretty obvious. Any others or are those the ones she meant?

So Snape has been loved--by whom you think?? And others had romantic feelings for Lily...JKR wouldn't answer if it was Snape so you couldn't rule that out...hmmm


And for me at least, the most intriguing question is the last. "Was there anyone else present in Godric’s Hollow the night Harry’s parents were killed?" JRK said "no comment" which would lead me to believe there probably was and it is important to the plot. Thoughts??

Since the last couple of books, I've thought it was Snape.  I always thought that he came to warn the Potters and that's why Dumbledore trusted him so much.  But I couldn't get why he would warn them.  Now I think it may be because he had feelings for Lilly.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. Snape overhears the propehcy and rushes off to tell Voldemort like the good Death Eater he is. Then maybe once he realizes what it means, especially for Lilly, he goes to warn them.
Him having feelings for Lilly would also help explain why he continually helps Harry despite his hate for James. Its probably a continual struggle for him to figure out what to think of Harry. Hmm...

I must admit I always felt Snape was there when the Potters were killed but now I am not so sure.  How would he have convinced Voldemort, after his return, that he was still loyal if he had gone to help Lily.  I can't imagine he just stood there and watched her die.

And since Snapes mum has been mentioned I expect it was her that loved Severus  ;)

I am now dying to know if the Horcrux JKR said would be found is the locket.  If it is, it just proves what a clever lot of people are on the Shack - you got it first  :)

Maybe Mrs. Norris has a thing for Snape. I was thinking Filch himself, but he's shipping with Pince.

I note that Jo said in the interview:

"When you write the books now, do you see the actors from the movies, or do you see your own characters?"
"JKR: My own characters. Every time."

I must have a slight laugh, when Slughorn (not drunk yet) said to Harry "... after what happened to your poor friend Rupert." (U.S. edition p. 485).

And wouldn't Snape be the Quarter-Blood Prince?

Of course Slughorn got lots of names mixed up, but it's pretty cute even if it's an 'homage'.  ;D

I noticed that too and I was going to mention it but forgot after the shock of the Dumbledore storyline :P

I'm starting to move strongly in that direction, though. Re-reading Book 1, I find Harry having a dream that started with Malfoy's face, which morphed into Snape and a flash of green light and a hurting scar. The bright green light is almost a signature for Voldemort.

Speculation: Snape was there in Godric Hollow, and was instrumental in Harry surviving the Dark Lord's attack. He had to choose between saving Lily and saving Harry. If he was very fond of Lily, that's one reason he's so very resentful of Harry now. And it can help explain how Snape is so violent with "I AM NOT A COWARD!".

Slughorn proved that it was possible to modify memories against occlumency, and Snape is supposed to be the best in that arena. It could be that he allows Voldemort (and Harry) to see just what he wants them to see if they think they've broken through his barrier. I can't see LV trusting him so much if he had blocked all of his memories all of the time.

I still like the theory that it was Petunia who loved Snape, since Jo has already used the "mother's love" theme. Lily might have brought her potions buddy home to visit on a vacation. We don't know for sure that the visiting bloke had to be James. ..

I never thought about it that way!  I just re-read that part of OOTP, where Petunia lets slip that she knows about dementors.  She said she heard about them from "that awful boy."  It could have been any boy, not just James.  Hmm...
