: Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 12, 2004, 07:05:58 PM FOTR Howard Shore is back again for a BIN of $299. Topps won't be happy :o
And a TT hobby box for $220! If the buyer pulled a Sam from that, we'd have one unhappy camper! For that amount, you could buy any of the autographs you wanted... why bother to take the risk? : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : samwise16 June 12, 2004, 09:17:04 PM i dont like both of those auctions one bit, and that Howard Shore auto looks just like the last one sild, the actual signiture i mean. I doubt Howard would have signed 3 items for this person, piece of paper and 2 cards :-\
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 12, 2004, 09:21:38 PM From what I remember, the winner was kyo410 and what happened was that he found out it was not an official card and threatened to report to Topps if the seller forced him to buy it/left neg. Something like that, I remember from the Topps board. So it looks like the seller is putting it up again, hoping it will sell quickly - it went over $500 last time and he's trying to sell it for $300!
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 12, 2004, 11:12:30 PM I remember seeing the auction the first time around for the Howard Shore fake auto card. I also remember the Seller being honest and telling everyone in the auction description that it was of his making and not an Official Topps Autograph card and that he did obtain Howard's signature in person. I do not understand the Buyers problem in light of this and have no sympathy for the person. I really liked the card and wished Topps did a real one for him - he sure earned it.
Now look at one card which peeves me and I still do not understand to this day how one was made for Figwit. I think he had all of 10 seconds in the film!! Contrast this with Howard Shore's contribution to all 3 movies!! Go figure!! >:( : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : beckham1 June 14, 2004, 04:19:38 AM Please explain to me the howard shore thing. He is the composer for the LOTR music???
I thought I had read a post about an auto for LOTR cards that never happened?? Also I thought I had read something once about a few auto's for the LOTR that were packed out that weren't supposed to or super rare? Give me the skinny since I don't know. : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 15, 2004, 12:27:17 AM Hi Beckham:
Yes Howard Shore is the composer for all 3 LOTR's movies. I do not know about the post you mention. All I do know is that Topps never did an Autograph card for Howard Shore. An eBay Seller who has some computer and graphics talent manufactured a few cards with Howard Shore's image on it like you see all the other Topps LOTR's Auto cards and had Howard sign them. He gave one to Howard and has tried to sell at least one on eBay that I am aware of. The only thing I can contribute to your second question is that to my knowledge there was nothing that happened as you asked. The only super rare auto card I know of is from The Fellowship - Merry. I do not know why he only signed half as many as the others and to me at least the card is not worth what people are paying for it. It would be a cold day in hell before I shelled out that kind of money. : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 15, 2004, 04:17:16 PM Howard Shore is down to $199... it seems that the seller really wants to offload it!
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60245&item=6102496712&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Tempting... not ::) I think I would be tied down and beaten by my fellow collectors if I even considered it ;) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 15, 2004, 04:57:13 PM Hi FTY:
I do not think fellow collectors would do that to you!! ;) If I was not looking at some expenses now for the next LOTR's Decipher installment - Mt. Doom and Topps ROTK Upsate set I would have purchased it at that price. I think the Seller did a great job with the card. : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 15, 2004, 04:59:47 PM Cheers savage ;D
while I agree with you on the great looking card, i personally would not buy it... I have issues with buying non-certified autographs and wouldn't want to risk $200 on a possible fake. Not saying it is, but playing it safe : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 15, 2004, 05:02:42 PM Yep - I'd love to create and have some of these myself but I'd never buy them because you have no control over the quality of printing or (more importantly) the authenticity of the autograph (after all that's WHY we buy these auto cards isn't it??? for the promise of authenticity!).
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 15, 2004, 05:04:24 PM As eBay states - "Buyer Beware". I cannot fault you there. You know for sure when you purchase a Topps LOTR's Autographed card that it is the real thing. You are also correct that there are many LOTR's Autographs that are fakes out there on eBay. >:(
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 15, 2004, 05:15:38 PM Yes we have often commented on badly fake autos I think I can spot rubbish JRD, Elijah Wood, Sean Bean, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom (though not the new OB I don't think), etc but Viggo still remains a mystery as his auto is so vague anyway :-\
Now to learn the autos from the HP set!!! R : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 15, 2004, 05:18:28 PM I have to say, Viggo has the most easily forgeable signature... i could do it now from memory and without my Topps card to reference from
Ah well... : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 15, 2004, 05:19:08 PM DON'T DO IT FTY!!!!
:-X : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 15, 2004, 05:24:12 PM Hmmm... I wonder what my 'authentic' signed Topps card of Viggo would fetch on ebay? Will go and make up a COA now and see if I can flog it off for $50 ;)
LOL... I wouldn't be so evil *switches to Gollum mode* Yessss we would precioussss! : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 15, 2004, 05:24:57 PM Faking Viggo's sig?
You would die before your stroke fell! : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 15, 2004, 05:25:01 PM Unfortunately FTY is correct about Viggo's autograph.
:( : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : samwise16 June 15, 2004, 06:50:01 PM It's not as easy as you may think, i thought i could do it along with orlando blooms so on a 8x10 with viggo and orlando on it i attempted viggo's sig and it really is hard, maybe it is me knowing it was not viggo's sig which made my brain assure me it was a rubbish attempt. Orlando's was too hard. This was for my own lesuire and the 8x10 got thrown out when i moved house 3months ago :)
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 15, 2004, 07:07:58 PM tell me what you think of my attempt when I put it up on ebay lol
*runs away in terror as Roz chases me with a replica Anduril* : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 15, 2004, 07:08:53 PM What a waste of a nice 8x10 - grrr
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : samwise16 June 15, 2004, 07:19:31 PM It was a crap 8 x 10 anyway :P
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 17, 2004, 06:05:30 PM Forget Legolas, Elrond's the elf to get...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60245&item=6103434477&rd=1 $400 already and the auction has only been on there for 10 hours and its a 10 day auction. Interested in how high this one will go - the last one cleared $600 Always knew that Hugo Weaving was the better elf lol no but Leggy was my favourite in the books... oh I love them both ;D Anyone here seen Hugo in Priscilla Queen of the Desert? : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 17, 2004, 06:06:45 PM This auto really has gone through the roof in recent months... and he hasn't done an in person autograph session as far as I know >:(
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 17, 2004, 06:14:34 PM I think I may have to start staking out his favourite Sydney haunts again :D I actually met him backstage at a school stage theatre performance once a few years back - he was so NICE! Very down to earth and all I could think was 'But you're Agent Smith and want to enslave all of humanity!' LOL ;D
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 21, 2004, 05:31:38 AM It is going to be interesting to follow the value of the autograph cards once the Topps Update set of ROTK comes and goes. I wonder in 6 months to a year if the value we see now for autos will drop as people move away from this area or lose interest?
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak June 21, 2004, 06:14:39 AM Good... but bad as well. Good that I can get some autos I want (maybe) and bad that the value of the ones I have will drop :(
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : beckham1 June 21, 2004, 10:21:59 AM good point, I think the interest from collectors will move on to other areas (like HP).
I won't even try to start putting the set (auto's) together at current levels (I'm partial to costume cards anyway) but if they dropped in the next 6-12 months I might go for it. :P Unless someone wanted to trade me a complete set for a Weasley Robe # 1300, let me know! 8)Ha : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : samwise16 June 21, 2004, 04:42:29 PM I saw an frodo elven nightshirt go for £27 now that is one hell of a drop! :o
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz June 21, 2004, 05:01:43 PM Oooh - I want one - I'll give £30 for it :P
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 June 22, 2004, 07:00:09 PM That's interesting! Frodo's Elven Nightshirt is the only Costume Card I am missing. If this is indeed a trend I will happily wait for prices to drop not only for costume cards but autos as well. I have a feeling they will as beckham says collector's move on to other areas.
Good old supply and demand theory in action. : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 23, 2004, 09:53:31 AM Check out this auction - one card of every actor up to ROTK wave 1. The framing is great as well, though I am worried about where to dispaly it without the autos fading. Nice - but the $400+ shipping is not so nice :'(
I just want the Elrond anyway :) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60246&item=2258592658&rd=1 : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 July 26, 2004, 06:51:44 AM Yeow that's not the way I want to display my stuff! The cost to ship is a rip off!! The Autos sure will fade in that environment!
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 27, 2004, 05:58:07 PM Says the card is in good condition, but the bottom 2 corners look bent and very worn. Is it just me or the camera? Judge for yourselves
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60798&item=6109869375&rd=1 : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 July 28, 2004, 06:38:54 PM I also wanted to mention that the Howard Shore Auto card was back up for auction starting at $99.00 and had one bidder so far. That card is sinking like the Titantic! ;)
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz July 28, 2004, 11:38:55 PM Woo!
It's a great card, I am not denying it but fake cards shouldnt' be encouraged in sales on ebay - I think if we mocked one up for ourselves and promised not to sell it would be cool! Anyone who sold theirs would have "sneak" appear in boils on their faces* *OOTP Chapter ... erm 27 I think : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 July 29, 2004, 09:08:56 PM Good one Roz!! :)
Look out you might start a new fashion fad "Sneak in Boils" across your forehead!! :P : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 30, 2004, 12:13:46 AM I vote we test it out on Ed... ;)
Just kidding, we would never do anything like that to you :D : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz July 30, 2004, 12:18:10 AM We wouldn't?
Oh *cough* no of course we wouldn't! *sheepish look* (Best go and look for that counter jinx book then) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 30, 2004, 12:31:53 AM Wot about this Gandalf auto (or lack of) chaps?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60243&item=6110811290&rd=1 I have heard of Sean Bean and Viggo unsigned cards, but never a Gandalf. Anyone interested? I reckon it will go for a bomb :o : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz July 30, 2004, 12:45:39 AM And remember that TT Mery unsigned.
OK OK I appreciate that unsigned cards are rare but I wouldn't pay for one! The point of these cards are that they are signed so unsigned ones are just plain odd! ;D : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 30, 2004, 12:51:22 AM I agree, i would never pay for it either, but you know those crazy collectors out there ::)
Sometimes I think that alot of people pay through their noses for something that is labelled 'rare' but don't really appreciate. I bet if they made a prop card with Dan Radcliffe's toenails (ok, ok, thats silly, but you get the idea ;)) and made it a /5 it would go for a small fortune. I mean, the rarity factor would far outweigh the 'euuwwww' factor 8) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz July 30, 2004, 12:53:58 AM LOL so true...
I feel a bit grossed out now... thanks ??? : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 30, 2004, 12:57:26 AM Any time ;D I can come up with more lovely ideas, but I think they would get me permanently booted off the forum :-\
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 July 30, 2004, 02:50:35 AM Gee Ladies - thanks for the curse and then recinding it! ;) I would prefer not to have boils across my forehead or anywhere else thank you! :P
That is the first time I have seen an unsigned Gandalf. I have seen one for Boromir but not for Aragorn. Did the Aragorn one sell do you remember? Now we could never have FTY booted off this Forum could we? :-X It would never be the same! :( : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak July 30, 2004, 09:00:05 AM Thanks savage ;D Welcome to the elevated yak status - we are now certifiably obsessed with yaks! Not to mention four legged and hairy ;)
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 August 01, 2004, 04:38:47 AM Gee thanks for mentioning the Yak status FTY, I did not even see it until you mentioned it!! :)
I feel honored to be included in such esteemed company! :) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak August 02, 2004, 10:49:05 AM You are welcome! And the pleasure is all mine ;)
Do you think we should ask Roz and Mark if we can have those cool eyebrows that samwise has under his 'omnipotent yak' status? Yes, Roz, I know they are horns ;) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 August 02, 2004, 10:53:53 AM Why not. You have to post quite a bit to get to this point so you should be rewarded with a unique identifier. :)
: Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak August 02, 2004, 10:58:20 AM I am looking for a reasonable price on the more valuable cards. If the auction does not reach a decent price, I will most likely end it early. If you wish to inquire about the price range, e-me, subject !EBAY AUCTION Price Range of --- card! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60245&item=6111347903&rd=1 Is this allowed? Surely not. Why does the seller simply not set a reserve price and say what it is? ??? : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz August 02, 2004, 01:03:28 PM No!
Not if you are going to be rude about the Yak horns. Now go to your room! *ahem* LOL Yeah I think that should be possible - or if you want to be really elitist you could have a totally new symbol! Our resident Mak is currently in the middle of designing a new website and so he's a busy bee (but the new one will be cool - do you ever visit Mark's Pirates comic, they have Hobbit like stature :) ) but let him know what you might like (by posting here or PM) and I am sure he'll do something. : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak August 02, 2004, 03:27:56 PM You know I would never be rude Roz, really I wouldn't! Well... occasionally...
*hangs head in shame* :-[ I'll keep from harassing the Bovine King about mine and Ed's new yak status until he finishes the new website and besides, I need my Bob's your uncle fix! I have become addicted to that cartoon now, thanks Mark :P ;) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz August 02, 2004, 03:32:08 PM Have you really?
:D He'll be delighted to hear that! You will have noticed you didn't get one yesterday and that's cos the new site is under construction. You can see it at http://www.theyakshack.34sp.com as it is being changed all the time there - but shhh I wasn't supposed to tell you that! Last night he did an amazing colour thing with all the characters from Pirates in colour for the Pirates pages :) Yahay! (And he starts a new job today so he'll be all nervous today and tired tonight). Ahh well I shall get back to my own work which is getting more and more frustrating by the minute. How can you do "world class research" with 10 year old pieces of "high tech" equipment - think you can't? How right you are! : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : ferdinand_the_yak August 02, 2004, 03:42:12 PM Yes indeed 8) I went back to the start of the series and read them all. Voting everyday as well of course!
Surely you can get better equipment for your project from your university? It IS Cambridge, after all - surely they would want their students to have the best of the best? :-\ : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : Roz August 02, 2004, 04:26:48 PM You'd think so - apparently Cambridge has a reputation for "research on a shoe string" - is that an international phrase!
Wow - thanks so much for the votes and all the Bob's your uncle. Soon you will be able to go through the Pirates archives and read those in a row too - Mark didn't make them their own section at first because he thought if people tuned into his site and saw a black and white toon they wouldn't be interested or think he was lazy, but Pirates is my favourite (and perhaps other people like it too) so finally they will be getting their own section :) : Re:Ebay auctions LOTR : savage727 August 03, 2004, 09:28:12 AM Yea Roz - we need to have you picket the head of Cambridge to get that remote controlled helicopter for the overhead photographs you need for your research! ;) Or else be able to tap into our spy satellites!
Both FTY and I look forward to our refined Yak status look whenever Mark can get to it! |
