: iPod mini question : ferdinand_the_yak June 26, 2005, 07:42:54 PM I was transferring music to my ipod mini when I looked at the stats - its the 6GB version, but why is only 5.4Gb available? Would anyone know where the remaining memory is taken up with? I have read the instruction manual 4 times with no enlightenment whatsoever :P

Now tot up how much space you have to use 36? 55 ish? Well that's because once you format a drive it is instantly smaller - space is used up for allocation tables - it uses this space to index the files on the disc so that it knows where the files are.
