Has anyone seen this and if so can you tell me a little about it. My mom doesnt think I need to see ::) it but I want to really bad so I thought I'd ask. Please PM with the answers to these or some of them:

What the Martiens look like
Is it ok for someone whos 14, loves Stevens movies, and hates aliens unless they die

Just going on the original book and film this is based on:

You never really saw a Martian

It is bound to be a bit violent, but probably no more than LOTR

They are planning two sequels so my guess is no one wins or loses in this film.  In the original book the winner is.......... ahhhhh that would be telling  ;)

I want to see it because I've seen alot of movies with Tom in it and I just love Dakota (heres a little family fact: My mom was going to name me Dakota because we had a dog by that name but my dad thought I would get teased :P ). I've seen the trailer both online and on T.V. and I've seen the Martian. Only seen it for a few seconds but it still looked SO WICKED ;D ;D

Dakota is a great name but then so is Mike.  I think your dad was right - just think who else was named after a dog (clue - Dr Jones  ;D )

My mum was going to call me Roxanne which would have been soooo cool  8) But my nan said everyone would have called me Poxy Roxy  :rofl:

I saw a really long trailer at the pictures today just before Batman and it is so much better on the big screen.  You can see why it was so expensive.  And Tom Cruise still looks so young.  That man must be part Elf  ;D

I like the name Dakota ;D I wouldnt mind my name being that because I only went to Elementry school and I knew alot of people with weird names so I eould have fit in. I knew ten people with the name MICHAEL and I hated have Michael as a name so for two years I had people call me Mike and thats who I am today ;D

The new version seems to focus too much on the emotional side of the story, at least from the trailers I've seen.  The martians have come to destroy us for heavens sake so let's stop the crying and pontificating and see some destruction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, got a bit carried away there.  My suggestion?  Stick to the original.  Never should have remade it.  A practice that should be banned.  If they dare do The Day The Earth Stood Still or Forbidden Planet I will NOT be happy  >:(

I understand it's available on DVD - I'm trying to get it.  If you saw it you would probably be disappointed - it's a bit garish because technicolor was fairly new back then and it's cheesy and hammy as most 50's sci-fi flicks were but it's still an absolute classic.  One of the better ones anyway, nowhere near as bad as When Worlds Collide.  The effects were outstanding considering the technology available to them in those days.  Spielberg's take is all computer generated explosions but we're so used to seeing this sort of stuff now that is doesn't really fill you with fear.  Remember the original film was based on a genuine radio broadcast that sounded so real people actually thought there was a Martian invasion taking place.  Bless!!!

I guess it's down to personal taste but Forbidden Planet, The Day The Earth Stood Still and War Of the Worlds are 3 of my all time favourite films.

The movie was incredable. Went today to the first show in my town.
I must say, I am 18, i've seen over 2000 different movies in my life (yeah, I keep a list) and this movie got to me, for a good 10 minutes I was so amazed and disturbed at what was on the screen it actually had me shaking in my seat. I swear for a good 20 minutes or so my mouth was wide open, i just could not believe some of the visuals Spielberg came up with. The martians are not to scary, if anything will scare you, it is the machines they are in and the weapons they use against humans. I do not want to give anything away so I am going to stop there. I plan on taking my 10, 13, and 15 year old brothers to see it in two weeks when I see them again.

P.S. It could easily end up being Spielberg's best big summer blockbuster movie ever (I dare say I enjoyed it more than Jurrasic park)
Oh and Tom Cruise did an AMAZING job acting (especially for an action movie, usually you do not get the greatest acting in it)

If the movies keep coming out as bad as they have been these past couple months I could actually see Cruise being nominated for a couple awards for this role.

Was it that great :o WOW. I want to see it but no ones going to go with me all but my sisters boyfriend but he plans on going at 12:00 midnight Saturday and my curfue is eight thirty so thats a BIG no. What do the martians look like. I've seen Signs. That move creeped me out. I couldnt sleep for a week. But then again I wasnt really afraid of the martian just scared that one was going to jump on my bed and start hissing at me :o :o :o OOO better stop or I'll be up all night again ::). I also saw Indapendance Day which didnt scare me just kind of kept giving me nightmares about me being the doctor opening the martian on the table :P . I usuall dont get nightmares about that stuff anymore because my mom always tells me that "If there is aliens out there their ether to stupid to know how to come here or to smart to come." that helped I guess but my mom told me that I just out grew it and that my thoughts and body know how to seperate fiction from reality in my sleep. I have to admit. I love maritans and all that stuff because I....well I dont know I just think its cool 8). How good is the acting I read somewhere that Dakota screams alot, more then Fay Wray in King Kong.

I also read somewhere that where was a distubing scene where there was a river filled with bodys :-\ is that ture. What some of the "Frightning Images" spoken in the rating? Yes, this helped ALOT. Thanks for a breif review ;D

Oh, and do you think they'll need some I.D. from me. I'm really small to be 14 and if so do you think they'll take an Military I.D.?

well I do not want to give away to much of the movie. there are most definetly some frightening images. the martians are not TO scary, I mean yeah they kind of walk like spiders and they of course have the kind of goo dripping fangs, but you also do not get to see much of them. There are only two scenes where you really see them. The martians are definetly not the scary part of the movie. Just remember (and tell your mom) that it is Steven Spielberg, it's a summer blockbuster, and it is PG-13. Spielberg likes to make movie that appeal to EVERYONE and that is why he is the greatest director of the past 30 years. Plus, if anything gets to scary, you could always just turn away.

I saw War of the Worlds first show here yesterday and thought it was just outstanding.  Don't worry about being too young to see this as I saw parents with infants, and young children below the age of 10 at the movie.  Yes I could tell they were afraid at points during the movie but it was not made for children anyway.  I loved the original War of the Worlds made in 1953 which stared Gene Barry as the Chief Scientist who first comes into contact with the Martians.  If you watch the new movie you will see him in a cameo appearance at the end when Tom Cruise arrives at his ex-wife's parents home in Boston.  He is the elderly gent with the silver hair playing Miranda Otto's father!  I might have been the only one so far to pick up that bit of trivia!   :)

I would recommend renting a copy of the original War of the Worlds before or after seeing the new one to see the different take each movie presents.  There is much more action in the original and the Martians come to earth in a much different mannor than in the new movie.  I like the original version's way much better to be honest.  The new movie puts you in the eyes of a father trying to protect his family during the invasion whereas the original movie centers on how we try to battle the Martians and follows both the military and scientific ways to combat the Martians.

Tom Cruise did a great job in this movie.

According to the book all works out well - but Lord knows what Spielberg has done in this case (he wouldn't let a simple thing like the masterpiece of Wells stop him from doing what he liked)

I cite "Artificial Intelligence" as my example..... what a waste of 3 hours of my life that was... and what a waste of an opportunity to make a thought provoking movie.

I'm so happy to hear that is something EVERYONE can see. I love the Jurrasic Park seires (mostly because I'm verying interested in dinosaures) and Steven Spielburg has made some great movies over the years.

Just got back from a screening tonight. Excellent movie. Scared the hell outta me in some places but overall was very very good. Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning just shine in this movie. The ending was a bit of a let down for me but it had to end somehow huh? 9/10 for me.  ;D

Well, it follows H.G. Wells story peertty well. The Microbes win, so humanity wins by default.

There are a couple of "fright moments", Loud noises and grabber type, as usual.

One scene of "implied" desanguation of a human by a big syringe.

Some pink foggy mist, I suppose impling once again  a fog of blood.

People being "ray-gunned" and exploding into powder.

Not much of a plot. Shows a disfunctional family being brought together by events. No total blood and guts scenes as in "bug war movies".

My 8 year old loved it and the 11 year old thought it was so-so.

Sounds great so it ends like the book no cliff hanger so they can make another one in the future? Good!

I've never read the book mostly because I didnt even know it had been published until I started to see trailers for this back in May. I'm glad younger kids like it because to tell you the truth I hate anything that scares me because when I'm really scared I cry *and scream* :rofl: (yeah that goes for horror movie too :P )   

After a good night's sleep Ive been thinking about the film again and really it isnt that scary at all. I think the word I was looking for was suspenseful.  :)
Mike, you will really enjoy the film. Im not usually even remotley interested in Alien Invasion movies but this is really good. I know you will like it.  ;D

I love Alien invasion movie mostly because each director has a different piece of mind on what would happen and how they look.

I saw it yesterday and I was really really impressed with it!!! It was a bit suspensful in a couple of parts too but not really too scary. I loved the way that ended cause it wasnt one of those 'America saves the world' kinda movies like Independence Day, it was such a good storyline.  ;D 9/10 for me

Trey you must have missed the fine print in the credits at the end of The War of the Worlds where it stated that "The bacteria used to kill the Martians was grown in the United States Defense Department's secret biological labs and is only harmful to aliens and not human beings".  They had to put that disclaimer in the movie so people would not be afraid.   :)

Somewhat reluctantly saw this yesterday (I cannot stand Tom Cruise lately but I like Steven Spielberg and the movie was free thanks to my job) and came away with mixed feelings. I wasn't overly impressed. It was definitely a bit scary/suspenseful at times (I'm glad I knew the ending!) although I'm a wimp at those sorts of movies. Tom was fine--he can do the action hero role pretty well and Dakota was fabulous (quite a talented actress). Tim Robbins was quite creepy in it and I wish Miranda had a bigger role. The special effects were fantastic. Not really my type of movie so just a so so review from me I guess. Still, if you like action movies this one is better than many I'd guess.

Well's book War of the Worlds or saw the first movie from 1953 you would have know about this and I am glad Spielberg held true to the book's demise of the Martians.   :)    Hey buddy you have quit working so hard and get out there to the movies a little more often.   :o=

Tell me about it... it's harder to get to the movies in the weekday evenings now as well since I work out of town in my new job... :(

I just saw this today. I know it been close to a year since the release but I just got up to courage to rent it :rofl:

I did really enjoy this movie. Kept me on the end of my seat I'll tell you all that ;) but it was really, really good.

I'll probably be on edge when we have a storm from now on but that just means the movie worked ;) :rofl:
