For those who sell on ebay, what do you do when you get the dreaded buyer who buy multiple items and sends you a paypal payment right away, problem being they send you only the regular shipping amount.

Example: per my auction states $3 (US) shipping  I will combines shipping for multiple items with .50 additional per card.  Also if paying by paypal I require auctions over $50 to be insured with $1.30 per $50.

So the seller bought two cards for a little over $90.  So they send me a paypal payment right away for card amount + $5 for shipping ($3 for shipping then put a note that they added $2 for insurance).  According to my math shipping would be $3.50 and insurance would be $2.60 = Total of $6.10

What is so confusing about the listing?  Or is the buyer just trying to skim a buck or so off their end?  With these cards being as thick as they are they basically all require holders that run at least .50 each plus bubble mailer, + postage (which may have additional weight with these thick cards.  This seems to happen a lot and it is starting to tick me off.  There is enough fees sellers have to pay just to sell the card, plus paypal charges, etc etc. 

Does this happen to anyone else?
And what do you do about it?  I am just sick of eating a couple buck here and a couple bucks there, it adds up when you have 5-20 idiots who can't read the auction specifics.

just send a polite email with the correct shipping amount and ask if they want to for go the insuance to cover the differance. Just point out politely how the cards will be sent

If they want to pay for the additional insurence, you could always refund there original payment and get them to send it again, that way you wont loose as my on Paypal fee's as you would if they sent you the $1.60 on it's own!

A similar thing has happened to me, a buyer in America bought something one night (as I was asleep I couldn't send an invoice) they paid but decided to pay the amount in Euros not pounds, now the Euro is slightly stronger than the dollar but much weaker than the pound so I couldn't do the item for that!

I have refunded the money but heard nothing else from the buyer... which is a shame, I don't know whether to relist or what!

I think you should refund the entire amount and send the buyer a nice note that the shipping and insurance were not calculated correctly.  It was probably an honest mistake on the buyer's part.  Then issue an invoice with the correct amount.

Put the example you give in your auction listing. And maybe say,  "Contact me for an invoice if buying multiple items for a total of the combined Shipping & Handling. Failure to remit the correct amount could result in the item being relisted, cancellation of your purchase and negative feedback.

The reason that I say this so strongly is there are a few people who think the instructions apply to everyone else but not to them. They don't realise that on small buys if the seller ends up eating $2 or $3 in cost then the card is sold at a loss.

What about buyers who do not read instructions and insist on using Paypal when its stated very clearly in the auction payment details that it is not accepted!!!! >:() >:() >:()

I mean, its not a huge fee, but for a base set, its quite a bit... I am hoping to use the money I get fromt hose sets to help cover the seller fees I have been racking up :P

This is the same problem Ive been having, and my thread about it was lost in the "accident"

Ive tried refunding it and getting them to pay in another way, but they tend to ignore me  >:() Its alright once or twice, but it keeps on happening and its a pain in the bum.

How about this: I sold three items to one person, sent them a new invoice with a reduced shipping price, but they sent me an email stating how much they had sent me, including the combined shipping cost of the three indiv items  :-\ Why would you want to pay more than you have to?

Just take the money and grin at their stupidity >:D

My buyer was fine with paying with bank deposit, but if they read the instructions in the first place, it would have saved both of us a bit of work... I make it VERY clear in the payment instructions! ::)

My buyers are at it again. My auctions just ended and already two Aussies have paid with paypal despite my auctions stating "aussies must pay by bank deposit.....no paypal", however i think i allowed for it in the postage costs so its not such a big deal, i just wish people would learn to read...

I just had one who did the same! Seriously though - I would refund them Kate and insist on your other methods... letting them do it will encourage them to do the same in the future >:()

honestly, im beginning to lean towards allowing it...I can compensate for the fees in the postage/handling fees, and if it means quicker payment then im not too fussed...Im still waiting for payment from some buyers from last week, even though i give a deadline of 3 days  :-\

Its up to you :D. I insisted on bank deposit because even though the fee was like 30c, I did it cos I was just annoyed at their inability to read a simple 2 sentence payment instruction description ::)

it is annoying, but ive almost got beyond caring. Ive got a heap of finished auctions at the moment, and im finding it quite a bit of work to figure out who's paid, who needs to be posted etc; ive never dealt with more than 3-4 auctions at a time, and ive got about 14 at the moment...

argh, now Ive got a buyer in spain who wants to send me euros in the post  >:()

Just tell them to read the payment conditions... they can't complain about that, surely??

I think we are sorting it out; they will try to set up a paypal account, otherwise they will send aussie dollars by registered mail....i need a disclaimer in my auctions- "no idiots allowed"  ;D

LOL - where would half of our bidders come from, in that case? ;D

true; some people bid way more than things are worth....

Don't worry - I get worse - Americans who assume being in Europe - that the UK uses the Euro... erm have they not heard what awkward so-and-sos we are?
