: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 24, 2005, 12:18:12 AM I though this might be helpful for people to know the SS card thicknesses:
HP SS Card Thicknesses All Autograph cards fit in a 20 pt. screw-down case All FilmCards fit in a 50 pt. screw-down case Most of the prop cards will not fit in standard sized screw-down cases. The ones that are 130 pt. will fit in a super thick toploader (or hinged box) and the thicker cards like Fluffy’s Fur can be stored in a hinged box (see link). http://www.tcbulk.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=9 NOTE: pt. means point. Paper thickness is measured in mils , 1/1000 of an inch = 1 pt. So 120pt = .120 inches, 175 pt = .175 inches, etc. NOTE: Hinged boxes are not PVC-free, so they are not recommended for long term storage. Pro-Mold is in the process of coming out with a 175 pt screw-down case, but as of now, there are no screw-down cases on the market that I'm aware of. Prop Cards: 40 / 9 3/4 train ticket (50 case incentive card) (50 pt.) 40 / Gringotts Coin Galleon (25 case incentive card) (120 pt.) 40 / Gringotts Coin Sickle (25 case incentive card) (120 pt.) 40 / Gringotts Coin Knut (25 case incentive card) (120 pt.) 100 / Devil's Snare (175 pt.) 127 / Chocolate Frog (50 pt.) 130 / Acceptance Letter and Shopping List (50 pt.) 130 / Harry's Letter Delivered to 4 Privet Drive (50 pt.) 140 / Gringotts Top Secret Letter (50 pt.) 205 / Wand (10 case incentive card) (175 pt. - Note: If card has a wand handle, it is thicker by approx. 2 pt.) 265 / Sorcerer's Stone (120 pt.) 450 / Practice Broom (130 pt.) 485 / Restricted Section Library Book (50 pt.) 490 / Cake Box (50 pt.) 538 / Wizard Candy (50 pt.) 700 / Fluffy's Fur (175 pt.) 733 / The Daily Prophet (50 pt.) 842 / Wand Box (130 pt.) Costume Cards: 165 / Slytherin Students Costume (New York Costume Card) (125 pt.) 300 / Oliver Wood Sweater (130 pt.) 335 / Harry's Quidditch Jumper (130 pt.) 360 / Harry Potter's Pajamas (50 pt.) 360 / Gryffindor Students Tie (50 pt.) 360 / Filch's Coat (130 pt.) 410 / Harry's Quidditch Robe (130 pt.) 460 / Gryffindor's Student's Costume (130 pt) 485 / Draco Malfoy's Scarf (130 pt.) 510 / Female Hogwarts Student's Robe (50 pt.) 520 / Neville Longbottom's Pajamas (50 pt.) 710 / Rubeus Hagrid's Shirt (130 pt.) 750 / Male Hogwarts Student's Robe (50 pt.) : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Tower May 24, 2005, 12:37:27 AM I think, i didn't ask anybody yet what pt means. ::)
And another question. When will Roz read my last PM? ;D : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : EmmasOneandOnly May 24, 2005, 12:38:18 AM The Choco Frog box is the size of a regular costume card. Lik posted this the the I GOT MY CASES!!!! thread
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Roz May 24, 2005, 01:03:48 AM I think, i didn't ask anybody yet what pt means. ::) And another question. When will Roz read my last PM? ;D Oops - hadn't spotted that! Awesome work there Anna... wish I could help but I don't jave any cards ;) - however I have not been idle, I've been adding lots to the price guide I assure you! Unfortunately a side effect of looking at past auctions has made me start to bid on current ones - eek! : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : rns91294 May 24, 2005, 01:20:09 AM Thanks!! Yes, last night, I took Anna's suggestion about those snap down card holders and bought one that probably holds about 25 regular cards. My Fluffy Fur fits great, with some room left for the fur to remain "fluffy" ;)
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : erevine May 24, 2005, 01:38:06 AM Great work Anna, I have started bidding on some cards on eBay for my SS collection. Although I have some different size screwdowns, it is nice to know what sizes are need for what cards, so I can stock up on the sizes I am running low on. Thanks for the great effort, along with the effort you take with all you do here on the shack, with your card postings and case breakdowns, it is much appreciated by this collector. ;D ;D regards, dave
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Tower May 24, 2005, 01:43:28 AM Hi Anna,
i did it. ;D I have put my Creature Cards in a 4 pocket page today. 8) Only for you. ;) : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Anna May 24, 2005, 01:56:47 AM i did it. ;D I have put my Creature Cards in a 4 pocket page today. 8) Only for you. ;) I'm sure your Monster Book is much happier now that he has room to breath. ;D LOL : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Tower May 24, 2005, 02:59:57 AM ;D
But you should be careful with Monster Books, they can use too much room for things you don't want. ;D : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Morningangel-Iola May 24, 2005, 03:06:59 AM My Hagrid seemed thinner than the card it was in, are they all like this?
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Anna May 24, 2005, 03:56:30 AM My Hagrid seemed thinner than the card it was in, are they all like this? Yes the two that I pulled are like this. They seemed to have used foam tape under the top of the card to keep it level (you can see it if you peek sideways through the swatch hole). Artbox may have done this to standardize the card size to the thicker ones since it was too thick to be a standard sized one (50 pt). : Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : rns91294 May 24, 2005, 03:57:46 AM If I tilt my Fluffy card that way, I can see thru the swatch hole just slightly. I think they made this one so thick only because the fur is so, well, fluffy. Better than crushing it with too small of a card. Although, this is not even a card anymore at this size.
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Morningangel-Iola May 24, 2005, 04:02:59 AM They certainly have gone for chunky in this set. Are there any normal thickness cards? (not sure what that is in pts ???) Are they just doing it to make storage a nightmare? I like my nine pocket but they don't fit very well ::)
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Anna May 24, 2005, 05:35:35 AM Updated to include Lik O-Rish's card thicknesses and added the definition of point (pt.) to the first post. Thanks Lik O-Rish! ;D
: Re: HP SS Card Thicknesses : Roz May 24, 2005, 02:14:20 PM Yes, if possible if anyone comes across suitable card cases it would be good to note them here. Ideally we'd like to know all of the ones that everyone has tried ;) But I guess you don't all live next door to the Ultra Pro factory shop ;)
: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Roz May 27, 2005, 04:39:18 PM So what is the verdict on the costumes and props of this set?
I know there are lots of objections because of their thickness... fluffy is monstrously the size of 12 base cards!!! And the thick cards do cause problems with storeage... how is everyone keeping them? Mine ar currently piled carefully together in an Ultra Pro Deck box because I can't put them in sleeves and certainly not toploaders, not even the thick ones ;) However before I complain too loudly at not knowing where to store them, I have to say this is probably a good move on Artbox's part. Why? Well the early costume cards were far too flimsey, Take a look at your Lupin jacket... we sent a costume from the first set to a LOTR collecting friend of ours and he was most dissappointed with the way the card was so thin and you could see the where inside the card the costume finished etc. The situation worsened in the PoAU set where I saw numerous cards that were so stuffed with thick material that they had either not glued properly, or had burst open at the right hand end of the card near to the swatch. So obviously something had to be done. What do you guys think? I am fine with the cards being this thick as long as I can find a nice way to put them in a binder or store them, and at the moment I am stumped. I know in the past Artbox have had their own Ultra Pro style storage sheets made, - for their LOTR Action FLipz sets, and also they have had white backed 9 pocket pages made for their "FilmCardz" sets, I wonder whether they would consider making very weird pocket page sizes just for this set? I don't fancy sticking a Devil's snare and other equally rare cards into a 4 pocket page loose and just trust it to luck!!! : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna May 27, 2005, 08:50:43 PM Thanks to Anna and John for all the info they've collated! ;D
Valid points Roz (as always) and safe storage certainly didn't seem that important when Artbox were designing these cards. ::) Does anyone know where I can get hold of the cases which Anna mentions for the Fluffy card here in the UK, as I only want one of them for my Fluffy card not a case of 100! ;) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Roz May 27, 2005, 08:59:53 PM the thicker cards like Fluffy’s Fur can be stored in a hinged box (see link). http://www.tcbulk.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=9 Great link Anna and $15 for 100 is a bargain, but by the time I got them to the UK with the weight and everything it would probably be more like $50, and I only want a handfull :P And are these things acid free? I presume you guys are not putting your cards straight in Toploaders - where have you found ultra pro type penny sleeves big enough? : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 May 27, 2005, 09:57:24 PM I would recommend Team Bags (as kbmum pointed out to me)
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna May 27, 2005, 10:06:48 PM We can't get hold of most of things you mention here in the UK! >:(
I've tried getting the single screwdown cases for my LOTR costume cards but most US sellers won't ship them abroad because of the weight :'( Team bags ... where the heck can you get them from if you only want a few ... ??? Sorry to winge so much but it's a real problem for most of us over here, as nobody is prepared to stock them and the shipping costs make them SO expensive to get from abroad. :-\ : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 27, 2005, 10:10:40 PM And are these things acid free? I'm not sure if they are. :-\ I'm using these hinged cases as more of a temporary storage for my thick cards. My cards aren't in penny sleeves either because they won't fit in the hinged cases that way. :( Pro-Mold is working on making screw-down cases that will fit these cards, but they're not out yet. :P Their web site says "Coming Soon!" for 175 pt. cases. http://www.pro-mold.com/prod02.htm : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna May 27, 2005, 10:13:03 PM Thanks Anna! :-*
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : allender May 27, 2005, 10:39:21 PM My "verdict" is that I like the thick cards. ::)
Sure, they are a bit more difficult to store. But they sure provide something out of the ordinary - they make the set even more interesting - and they help Artbox position the Potter franchise as something that isn't run-of-the-mill. I think we'll see other manufacturers try the same thing. I have some sleeves that will fit my Fluffy and Broom, and I always can attach the sleeved card to a sheet of 9-pockets in my binder. :D : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Roz May 27, 2005, 10:49:57 PM We can't get hold of most of things you mention here in the UK! >:( I've tried getting the single screwdown cases for my LOTR costume cards but most US sellers won't ship them abroad because of the weight :'( Team bags ... where the heck can you get them from if you only want a few ... ??? I paid £4 for 200 in Staples ;) you can have a few off me, but I don't know if they are acid free so I wouldn't keep cards in them for longer than a month! : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna May 28, 2005, 12:49:56 AM Staples hmmm ??
I'll have to have a look at the one near me ... didn't think to go in there! ::) Thanks for the tip Roz. ;) :-* : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : gimli May 28, 2005, 12:53:06 AM well for all you in the Uk I am looking to get hinged boxes in 15, 35 50 and 100 count so hopefully these will be good for sending and storing these cards i will let you know how well they work when i get them
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Sharon May 28, 2005, 01:01:03 AM I do really love the thick cards in this set but........
If I was buying packets from a shop I would be a bit miffed. Just by feeling the sides of the packs I spotted at least half of the thick cards. No one would stand a chance at a Fluffy from buying one pack as it sticks out like a sore thumb. So yes they are beautiful but too easy to pick out. I know some of you will say 'no pleasing some people'. I am not saying I think they should dump them for the other sets as I buy boxes so am not affected, just to maybe have an upper limit on the thickness. :) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna May 28, 2005, 01:05:38 AM well for all you in the Uk I am looking to get hinged boxes in 15, 35 50 and 100 count so hopefully these will be good for sending and storing these cards i will let you know how well they work when i get them Brilliant Chris and I'll be VERY interested to see how these work out when you get them. ;D: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 May 28, 2005, 01:06:56 AM I like them too, but you can easily pick them out.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Tower May 28, 2005, 05:24:19 AM got my cards: pix soon :o :o :o I can't await to see pics. ::) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 28, 2005, 06:37:25 AM I can't await to see pics. ::) Me too! ;D Also thanks LikORish for the new card thicknesses you provided. ;D The first post has been modified to include those sizes and I also added a note specifying that the hinged boxes are not PVC-free. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa May 28, 2005, 07:19:44 AM I like to keep everything in my binders. Will a screw down case fit in a 4 pocket page?
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 28, 2005, 07:58:51 AM I like to keep everything in my binders. Will a screw down case fit in a 4 pocket page? They will fit in a 4-pocket page, but they're slippery and can slide out easily. :-\ I use Scotch brand acid-free double sided tape (for documents) to seal the pocket edges closed and you can still open the pockets for removal, if needed. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : EmmasOneandOnly May 28, 2005, 08:12:37 AM Thats and idea. I might have to pick some of that up when I go to the mall. Pick up the "removable" stuff right Anna...
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 28, 2005, 08:14:10 PM Pick up the "removable" stuff right Anna... Actually, it doesn't say removable. The tape I'm using is 3M Scotch Photo & Document Tape, Acid-Free, 002, Double-Sided. The package color is purple and black. It cost around $5 US for a roll. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna May 30, 2005, 06:16:15 AM Updated to include LikORish-Spider's corrections indicated in post #32.
Corrections were made to these two cards: 40 / Gringotts Coin Galleon (25 case incentive card) 120pt 205 / Wand (10 case incentive card) 175pt (Same as Fluffy, but the prop on one extends above the surface of the card, maybe 2 pt or so.) Thanks LikORish! ;D : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : morenomark May 30, 2005, 10:09:58 AM Despite the fact that I have now spent literally thousands of dollars on POA, POAU, and Sorcerer's Stone combined, I still do not like the size of the new Prop and Costume cards. I just went through ten nine-pocket pages trying to insert the costumes that will fit. Each time I got down to the last one and the page ripped. If Artbox was going to make the cards this big, then they should have produced a series of pages to fit cards that were this big. I shouldn't need to spend tons of money on the actuall cards, then have to spend tons more to store them.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : EmmasOneandOnly May 30, 2005, 10:54:25 AM I agree. I've probably spend thousands of dollars on Harry Potter Trading Cards I havent even broke 20 inserts :o :o
I also agree Artbox should make their own cases to go along with SS. I very much like these and like to keep them as protected as I can and in the brown evnvelope I keep having to open it to let everyone see and its just wearing away the stciky. Half the cards are twice, triple the size of normal costume cand prop cards and already two weeks after the release we already getting frustrated with them ::) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna June 16, 2005, 10:30:50 PM Pro-Mold has just released their 180 pt Screw-Down Case. ;D Hurray! These cases will accommodate the thickest of the SS card inserts. :D
The only problem is that they cost $3.00 each if you buy 1-9 of them. :o Price breaks are 10-24 - $2.70 each, or 25 and up - $2.40 each. They are expensive, but they are also acid-free. Here's the link to the new case: http://www.pro-mold.com/pc17.htm : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 June 16, 2005, 10:34:55 PM I was just there, and I want one, but how do we find out the shipping cost for it? I wonder if it would be easier to wait and see if anyone has them at the card show I am going to in August.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna June 16, 2005, 10:40:47 PM I was just there, and I want one, but how do we find out the shipping cost for it? They have a flat rate shipping charge of $8.00 in the continental US. I placed an order for 60 of them yesterday ::) so this shipping cost is a bargain for me since normally I would pay around $20 for shipping of this many screw-down cases. I wonder if it would be easier to wait and see if anyone has them at the card show I am going to in August. You may want to do that, but as far as I know, Pro-Mold is so far the only manufacturer of a screw-down case of this thickness. :-\ : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 June 16, 2005, 10:42:48 PM $8 is not worth it if I just want to buy 1. There is a dealer at the card shows that carries pro - mold items. I guess I can hope he has one.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna June 16, 2005, 10:58:54 PM $8 is not worth it if I just want to buy 1. There is a dealer at the card shows that carries pro - mold items. I guess I can hope he has one. It isn't worth it to only buy 1 case. If the dealer at the show carries Pro-Mold items, it would be considerably cheaper to get it from him. You may want to call him in advance to see if he'll have them at the show. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : kbmum June 17, 2005, 12:07:17 AM It won't be long before the new screwdowns show up on eBay. You might be able to get one with less expensive shipping than what it would cost to get it directly from Pro-Mold.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 June 17, 2005, 01:18:15 AM Wait, it is 1 for $3 plus $8 shipping, right? Is that 1 a case or just 1 holder? I only need one.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna June 17, 2005, 01:37:04 AM Wait, it is 1 for $3 plus $8 shipping, right? Is that 1 a case or just 1 holder? I only need one. It's $3.00 for one screw-down holder (plus the shipping)! :o : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 June 17, 2005, 01:57:44 AM Wow
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 17, 2005, 05:53:49 AM There will be a sports card show a few miles away from me on the 30th of June. It's a 3 day show, so I'll check to see if anyone has the new super thick screwdowns. I'm going on the first day of the show, so I'll report back with the price and see if any Yak Shackers want one right away. It's free, so I can go back if need be. It's just down the road a bit. 8)
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna June 18, 2005, 01:30:34 AM Was this super-thick screwdown the one which should hold the Fluffy Fur Prop?
I'd be interested in a couple of them if it is the right case please! ;D : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 18, 2005, 02:53:21 AM Yep, Anna says the 180pt will fit a fluffy prop. If I can find them I'll try it out to let you know.
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna June 18, 2005, 03:58:48 AM Brilliant! Thanks very much Kelly! ;D :-*
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna June 22, 2005, 04:18:19 AM I have some bad news to report about the screw-downs case for the super thick cards. I just received my shipment this afternoon and all of the cards will fit in Pro-Mold’s new PC17 cases except Fluffy’s Fur, the Devil’s Snare and the Wand cards. The case is still too small for these cards. :'(
The only alternatives that I could find for these 3 cards are a 10-card Snap Box by Pro-Mold PC10 or a 10-count 2-piece Slider Box from Ultra-Pro. Here’s a sample of how big the PC-17 case is compared to a 50 pt case: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/AnnaO/Misc/New_Case_Size_Sample.jpg) EDIT: I forgot to mention that the PC-17 case thickness is 2 1/2 times thicker than a 50 pt case (about 5/8" thick). :o : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : kbmum June 22, 2005, 04:48:51 AM Are the 10-card boxes archival quality plastic?
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 22, 2005, 06:10:43 AM I've already tried the 10 card snap box pc-10 by Pro-Mold. It's still too small for Fuffy's fur. It looks about 2 card thicknesses short of fitting. Anyone know about the Ultra-Pro 2pc. slider box?
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : rns91294 June 23, 2005, 01:03:58 AM I think the one I use for fluffy is for 15 or 25 cards.....
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 23, 2005, 01:45:46 AM I think the one I use for fluffy is for 15 or 25 cards..... Yeah, the hinged boxes will work. I tried the 10ct. snap box which I think is also called a mini-snap. It has 2 seperate pieces, no hinge. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : ArwenEvenstar June 24, 2005, 04:13:59 AM Im looking for some of those new Pro Mold screwdowns, plus some of the PC6II, PC5II and PC18II. If anyone could help me out please Pm me as these are near impossible to get in Australia. Of course I can cover cost, shipping and a little extra. ;D
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 24, 2005, 07:06:16 AM I just put my fluffy fur in a 25 count mini-snap box (no hinge) by Pro-mold. The box is a bit large, but it looks better than a team bag. They were about .60 cents.
ArwenEvenstar: The Pro-molds are easy for me to get at the local card store. I bought some 120pt screwdowns for $1.29 each. Don't know about other sizes, but they would be fairly close to that price. I can also get something called Ultra-Pro one touch. They have a magnetic closure instead of the screw which is nice if you don't want to hunt for a screwdriver to get your cards out. I bought a couple of 130pt for $2.25 each. They are perfect for Wand Box, Practice broom, etc. I'm not sure what the PC6II is, so I won't be able to help with that. IM me if you want me to check about them. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Sharon June 25, 2005, 12:14:12 AM Does anyone else think that a lot of the cards are unnecessarily thick? The more I get the more I think this. Some of the cards I can see why they made them so thick but with others you can look sideways at the card and see the swatch did not require such a thick card. Any thoughts?
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : ArwenEvenstar June 25, 2005, 08:10:47 AM PM'd you Kelly. :)
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa June 25, 2005, 08:33:37 AM Does anyone else think that a lot of the cards are unnecessarily thick? The more I get the more I think this. Some of the cards I can see why they made them so thick but with others you can look sideways at the card and see the swatch did not require such a thick card. Any thoughts? I was thinking that too. But it might be that Artbox wanted to keep thicknesses somewhat uniform. Lots of the cards are 130 pt. They probably wanted most of them that thickness so to avoid having some at 130, some at 110, others at 115, ect. Maybe easier to package that way with a certain number of base cards?: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Bogleg July 12, 2005, 02:00:45 PM I think the thickness of the cards was a tester for the 100 case incentive for the next set - Brick from Hogwarts
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Morningangel-Iola July 12, 2005, 07:14:15 PM I think the thickness of the cards was a tester for the 100 case incentive for the next set - Brick from Hogwarts  PMSL  Half the costume cards are needlessly thick I have to ram them (gently) into the pages ::) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna October 06, 2005, 01:28:35 AM The product is made in China, isn't it? No it's not, it's made in the US. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/AnnaO/Misc/Pro_Mold_PC-17_Label.jpg) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Anna October 06, 2005, 03:18:08 AM Well, that explains it. Are you implying that Americans aren't as motivated as the Chinese? ;) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Scifi Cards October 06, 2005, 04:13:52 AM I did send an e-mail to Pro-Mold telling them that the collector community needed a screwdown that would fit a card of 190 pts. That would take care of the Fluffy Fur and Wand Props thickness. I got an answer that they were not currently planning a product of that size. (Typical stock reply?) Perhaps if we all sent an e-mail it might motivate them. One thing you have to consider is how few of these cards over 180 point exist. Even if every one of the Artbox cards made went into a screwdown holder it probably is not enough sales to offset the design, manufacturing, and stocking of such a beast. There are very few, if any, cards this thick in the sports card world and that is honestly where the bulk of screwdown sales come from. And what is next, a screwdown to fit the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory grass prop card? ::) It really is a never ending battle, trying to keep up with Artbox's desire to make unique cards. : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : ferdinand_the_yak October 07, 2005, 09:52:32 AM I hope that you all take my comments with an eye toward humor. ::) No offense meant to anyone (FTY, especially to you. McG, maybe.). :-X I am often told that I have a droll, sarcastic, and weird sense of humor. Which is why I don't quit my day job. Hey wait a minute, I just remembered... I was downsized from my last job. You got me there    And Kate is quite right - it would take a LOT to offend us Aussies, especially me John, so you fire away. I would say my sense of humour is very similar to yours ;) It is true - but it was as a reaction to the fact that they were overrunning the outback and destroying many native habitats as well as farmland. At first they just shot the roos, skinned them and sold the pelts, leaving tonnes of meat to rot in the desert. Then a bright spark had the idea of using the meat for dog and cat food. Shortly afterwards, some other bright spark thought about using it for human consumption. Waste not, want not. For anyone who is a bit daring - I suggest you try kangaroo if you can - it has a quite interesting flavour! Very lean, with a gamey flavour for those who like that. Make sure they don't overcook it (medium/medium rare). I think we export it to the US and UK! *duck as Roz throws her Skippy toy at me* PS. John - you owe me a Potter variant  : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : blackcat20 October 07, 2005, 09:58:32 AM Thanks, Kate. *Guess I'll have to keep bribing her with more cards now....* of course, I wouldnt expect any less-if Jo gets a varient, do I get one too? ;D never tried roo meat, im put off by the whole Aussie icon thing...and anyway, there are so many they are starving to death, so a little culling here and there isnt such a bad thing... : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : ferdinand_the_yak October 07, 2005, 10:03:37 AM I want to know how big a camp fire you need to roast one and who turns the spit? I have enough trouble eating steak, let alone things like kangaroo ( dont eat rabbit, snake, emu etc either...) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Trey October 07, 2005, 10:25:26 AM Roo meat :-\ erm no thanks...like Kate I would have trouble too...roos are just so aussie and I wouldnt want to eat one :( They are cute animals..if you dont get a wild one that wants to punch you in the head until you have nothing left but brain matter..then they are great and actually quite friendly. We had one at a paddock near my place (yes im a bit too country out here) and it came up to me and sniffed my shoe *gasp* so I slowly reached out my hand and patted it on the head. It flinched a bit but then sniffed my hand..very cute animal.
*Trey smirks at herself for living on the edge...im too bad 8) * Kiddies please dont try this at home because it is actually quite dangerous. Kangaroos are wild and untamed and should never be approached!! : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : ferdinand_the_yak October 07, 2005, 10:28:11 AM Awwww... Trey, now I feel bad :(

It's not that interesting really Kelly .... just sausages (I think you call them half-link sausages or baby sausages cos of their size) placed on the bottom of an ovenproof dish and a thin batter (usually a Yorkshire pudding batter mixture) poured over them and then the whole lot is placed in a hot oven and baked. The sausages cook and the batter rises and goes puffy and golden-coloured when it's cooked. Bangers and mash is cooked sausages (fried or grilled) served with mounds of mashed (creamed) potatoes. ;D : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa October 09, 2005, 06:44:51 AM Hmmm...any food with TOAD in the name is something I'll stay away from. ;) But Bangers and mash sounds good. Grilled please!
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Roz October 10, 2005, 12:50:27 AM Oh honestly Jules, that's no help!
This is what you need: Ingredients 6 good-quality pork sausages - about 14oz/400g 1 tbsp groundnut or other flavourless oil (if necessary) For the batter: 3oz/75g plain flour 1 large egg 3fl oz/75ml semi-skimmed milk salt and freshly milled black pepper For the onion gravy: 8oz/225g onions, peeled and sliced 2 tsp groundnut or other flavourless oil 1 level tsp golden caster sugar 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 level tsp mustard powder 15fl oz/425ml vegetable stock made from 1½ level tsp Marigold Swiss vegetable bouillon powder dissolved in 15fl oz/425ml boiling water 2 rounded tsp plain flour salt and freshly milled black pepper OK - got all that? Begin by making the batter, and to do this sieve the flour into a large bowl, holding the sieve up high to give the flour a good airing. Now, with the back of a spoon, make a well in the centre, break the egg into it and add some salt and pepper. Now, measure the milk and 2fl oz/55ml water in a measuring jug, then, using an electric hand whisk on a slow speed, begin to whisk the egg into the flour - as you whisk, the flour around the edges will slowly be incorporated. Then add the liquid gradually, stopping to scrape the flour into the mixture. Whisk until the batter is smooth. Now the batter is ready for use, and although it's been rumoured that batter left to stand is better, I have never found this, so just make it whenever it's convenient. Now place the sliced onions in a bowl, add 1 teaspoon of the oil and the sugar and toss the onions around to get the lightest coating, then spread them on the baking tray. Next arrange the sausages in the roasting tin, then place the onions on a high shelf in the oven, with the sausages on a lower shelf, and set a timer for 10 minutes. When the timer goes off, remove the sausages from the oven but leave the onions in for a further 4-5 minutes - they need to be nicely blackened round the edges. When they are ready, remove them and leave to one side. Now place the roasting tin containing the sausages over direct heat turned to medium and, if the sausages haven't released much fat, add the tablespoon of oil. When the tin is really hot and the oil is beginning to shimmer - it must be searing hot - quickly pour the batter in all around the sausages. Immediately return the roasting tin to the oven, this time on the highest shelf, and cook the whole thing for 30 minutes. Now for the gravy. First add the Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder to the stock, then add the onions from the baking tray to a medium-sized pan. Now add the second teaspoon of oil, then, using a wooden spoon, stir in the plain flour. Stir all this together over a medium heat and then switch to a whisk, then gradually add the stock to the pan, whisking all the time, until it's all in. Then bring it up to simmering point and gently simmer for 5 minutes. Taste to check the seasoning, then pour into a warmed serving jug. When the toad is ready, it should be puffed brown and crisp and the centre should look cooked and not too squidgy. Serve it immediately with the gravy, and it's absolutely wonderful with mashed potato. Now go forth and Anglicise... actually I've never had toad in the hole, I might try my own recipe (stolen from Delia ;)) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : grecopa October 10, 2005, 03:12:16 AM Thanks, Roz! I may make that for my family, but NOT tell them what it's called. ;) It's funny you wrote all that because I was thinking of starting a recipe thread on the forum. I'll find my Nana's recipe for southern biscuits first. Yum!
: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Nienna October 10, 2005, 03:33:19 AM Kelly - make it for your family, let them eat it and THEN tell them what it's called!!
Actually I don't ever recall eating it either, though my son reliably informs me that when he stops at his Grandparents, his Nana regularly makes this dish. She also cooks shin beef too .... which is lovely and my son really enjoys it. erm I'm trying to think of how to describe what shin beef is - basically it's the meat from the shin of a cow which you have to cook v-e-e-ry sl-o-o-o-w-ly otherwise it's tough. It makes very tender meat and a rich stock which you thicken to make a gravy and it's one of the cheapest cuts of beef you can get. Hee hee I'll just call you Fanny Craddock then shall I Roz!?! ::) : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : kbmum October 10, 2005, 08:17:16 AM Hee hee I'll just call you Fanny Craddock then shall I Roz!?! ::) I think that would be Betty Crocker in the US! ;D : Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Morningangel-Iola October 11, 2005, 02:27:56 AM Very interesting the turn this thread took ;) we'll be cooking the cards next :o

: Re: HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict? : Galea December 21, 2006, 05:16:47 AM I was wondering if there are Magnetic Holders for cards like the Devil's Snare and Fluffy's fur. Pro-Mold released their "Super-Thick" MH4 Holders for cards up to 180pt. I was very dissapointed to find that they're TOO small for both cards. I thought that a holder for cards UP TO 180pt would work for something that is 175pt. I was wrong and they're very expensive :-\.
