: grecopa May 21, 2005, 06:22:10 AM
Here's a good one.  Looks like the bottom of a Fizzing Whizzbee.  I hope there won't be any Fizzing Whizzbee's with the boring orange swatch.  All the Wizard candy cards so for have been really great, and I would never get rid of the one in this auction GOOD GREIF!! :)

I love that card!  I wouldn't want to part with it, either.  It'll be interesting to see how high it goes.

Its nice but I wouldnt dare buy one and get rid of the one I just got. I'm already attached ;D

Can anyone tell me the different kinds of Wizard Candy mentioned in the book???  I pulled one and I have no idea what it is I think it might be a new one, but my scanner is not working and I don't have a digital camera so can't post an image yet.

This is the best description I can give of it.  It has Chinese or Japanese type symbols. In English it says

Yuen Kit Lan (then cut off)
Composed of (cut off)
mula. (obviously formula cut off)

Then reads like list of ingrediants

(Symbol) Agastache rugosa
(symbol)  Lean Yip
(symbol)  Bu Ja Yip

That is what it says.  Does anything ring a bell is there a candy called Yuen Kit Lan????

: Re: Wizard candy varients

What are the colors?  That's a lot of words for a swatch.  Sounds cool.

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: beckham1 May 21, 2005, 10:00:30 AM
Swatch is just writing, simple black and white.  Definately has to be some sort of candy with any Asain tilt to it or name.

Did I just type COLOURS?  You Brits and Aussies are rubbing off on me.  Hmmmm...I'll have to try looking that one up, Beckham.  I have no idea.

: Re: Wizard candy varients

I have never read the books does it list the different kinds of wizards candy?

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: EmmasOneandOnly May 21, 2005, 11:03:57 AM
Just Ice Mice, Lik-o-Rish Spiders, Exploding Bon-Bons, but nothing with an asian name

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: beckham1 May 21, 2005, 11:11:00 AM
maybe its ice mice as I doubt it would be one of the other two.

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: EmmasOneandOnly May 21, 2005, 11:12:53 AM
It might, I've never seen the movie version so it could be. But then again its not an asian treat but its possible

It's Pepper Imps, Beckham!  See LikORish's last post in "I got my cases" thread.http://www.theyakshack.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2206.660

One of my wizards candy props looks exactly like the one with the face.  And I did just pick up a new scanner/printer today so I should be able to post some scans Sun. ;D

OK I bought a new scanner printer so I am adding images to my photobucket and many other things that need to be scanned.  Here are the wizards candy variants I pulled (hope this works)

I would like to know what candies they are from if anyone can tell me?

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: Tower May 22, 2005, 11:54:49 PM
Wow !   :o

I would say, we shouldn't use the word "variant" for all the Wizard candy cards. Every card is a variant.  ;)

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: kbmum May 22, 2005, 11:55:33 PM
I am so incredibly jealous! :o  Those are beautiful cards, Beckham!

: Re: Wizard candy varients

I would like to know what candies they are from if anyone can tell me?

The top one is Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans.  I'm not sure of the second one, and I think the third one is Black Pepper Imps.

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: grecopa May 23, 2005, 01:15:39 AM
Maybe the one with the large face is the Bubble Gum.  I can't remember the name if it.  I hope all you "more than one case people" are going to let me buy one or two Wizard candy cards from you. :o=  I agree that these aren't "varients" now that I see how many different types there are.  Let's see, so far we have:
Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans
Black Pepper Imps
Exploding Bon-Bons
Lik-O-Rish Spiders
Fizzing Whizzbees
Large Face swatch (possibly bubble gum)
Any others that I missed?

: Re: Wizard candy varients

Isn't the bubble gum called 'Droubles Best Blowing Gum'? (Not too sure on the spelling...) ;)

There's certainly been some fabulous Candy cards! ;D

Yes!  That has to be it, I think.  Does anyone know how to change the title of this thread to just Wizard Candy?  I can't figure it out.  I certainly wans'nt expecting these candy cards when I made my list for my most wanted props/costumes.  Now I have to add 5 more cards to get all the different candy's!

: Re: Wizard candy varients
: kbmum May 23, 2005, 01:39:32 AM
I think all you have to do is go to your first post which started the thread, click on modify, and then change the title.  This should change the name of the thread, but it won't remove the old title from the Re: lines in the posts that have been made by other people.  Any new posts will have the new title.

I had a dream where there was a case in the middle of my room with one box in it that only housed one pack. And I had to guess what two Prop and Costume Cards where in it :P and if I did I got to keep them and get a case. But I never found out because I guessd wrong and the person (Quierrl) ate me :-X

Nice Wizard Candy card kbmum!! 8)  I love the colorful swatch and the letters! ;D

I agree with Lik ORish, these cards are my favorites of the set because of the variations. :D

CORRECTION:  Now I think the big face swatch comes from the exploding bon-bons.  I think it's the face at the top of the package.  It looks like the premium swatch to have for a bon-bon wizard candy card. ;D

: Re: Wizard Candy

That's a Fizzing Whizzbee.  It comes from the purple circle around the packaging.  You can barely see it on the POAU Whizzbee card picture. 8)

Bon bons? JUst a guess from the colour scheme... but I do not know for sure

: Re: Wizard Candy

It belongs to the Bon-Bon from the face at the bottom of the package

Is there anywhere a possibility to see the whole bottom of the package? Do you have a pic? I guess, you must have seen it anywhere, otherwise you wouldn't know it.  ::)

Thats from ether the left or right side at the bottom of the package. You can see the little clown face at the bottom of the swatch.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: Tower June 02, 2005, 04:23:35 AM
Must be from the left side, if i look at my picture.

: Re: Wizard Candy

Amy have you sold all the bon bon packages that you made?

: Re: Wizard Candy
: grecopa June 22, 2005, 06:42:04 AM
Here's a question:
If there are 538 total candy cards, are there approx 108 of each kind (Give or take because 5 won't divide evenly into 538)?  If they turn out not to be evenly distributed, which one do you think is most rare?

: Re: Wizard Candy

That's a tough one to answer. :-\  Have you looked in the Price Guide?  In the comments section most of us have been typing in the candy type.  If they're tallied, we may get a good indication of the distribution of the types.

Okay, I took it upon myself to check it out because you made me curious Kelly.  Here's what's recorded so far:

Bertie Bott's Beans - 14
Lik O'Rish Spiders - 17
Exploding Bon Bons - 15
Black Pepper Imps - 13
Fizzing Whizzbees - 17

I'm not sure if we could come to any conclusions yet, but the distribution does seem pretty close.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: grecopa June 22, 2005, 08:16:11 AM
Thanks, Anna!  I had a sick kid a while ago and just got back on the forum to do the tally.  Thanks for doing it for me. ;)  Looks pretty even.  It seems like candy card auctions are starting to slow down on ebay also.  Not too many on auction this week.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: rns91294 June 22, 2005, 09:57:57 PM
Great idea!!!  We should keep track of that to see what it the most rare.  I have a Black Pepper Imps one we pulled from the pack.  But does anyone know where I can find what this package looks like in full?

: Re: Wizard Candy
: grecopa June 22, 2005, 11:15:14 PM
I've been wondering about that too. ???  I think I'll check out the beginning of Sorcerer's Stone when Harry and Ron are pigging out on the train with all the candy.  Maybe I can do a freeze frame and spot one.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: kbmum June 23, 2005, 12:05:39 AM
The scene on the train is scene 9.  It's hard to see most of the candy because it's either on the cart or piled up on the seat.  There are close-ups of the chocolate frogs and Bernie Botts boxes.

I also looked at the Honeydukes Tour on POA disc 2 and a similar tour on the Azkaban (Warner Bros.) website.  You can see some of the candy, but there are no close-ups.  If someone has a DVD that allows you to zoom in, you might have better luck.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: rns91294 June 23, 2005, 01:02:20 AM
I can zoom in on the movie, but I don't think I can in the tour of honeydukes.

The paper is metallic silver.  8)

The really neat thing about these cards is that there are 538 of them, but there are 5 different types of candy boxes you can get.  Lik-o-rish spiders, Exploding Bon Bons, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Fizzing Whizzbees and Black Pepper Imps.  We don't know the ratio of each type, but potentially there would be only about 107 of each, and most likely less than that since Artbox always holds some back.  That makes them pretty rare if you're only collecting a certain one.  Then there's the discussion of do you need all 5 types to have a master set?  I say no, but I got all 5 anyway just because they're my all time favorite prop.  So I'm not so sure that the seller has inflated the price on that card with the face.  It's the best I've ever seen of the SS Lik-O-Rish Spiders unless Tower, Anna or John has one that I forgot about.  I hope you can get a better price though, it would be great to have that card go to a Shack member!  ;D

sfmuggle--Thank you, I like it very much.  :)  I would try to get the price down a bit--and I so hope you can get it.  :o= Wishing you luck.  :D

Kelly--The candy props are some of my favorites as well. I never really thought about it, but you are absolutely right--we don't know the ratio of each type, but that 538 number is a bit misleading when you consider the number of different candy box swatches the cards are created with(from)...I think that makes them much more rare.

Thanks for the encouragement Bitsy & Kelly.  I'm only beginning to become aware of the variety of different inserts like the wizard candies (e.g., Lik-o-rish spiders, exploding bon bons, bertie botts every flavor beans, etc) and their scarcity.  Blows me away a bit but, at the same time, makes me want to collect more  ;D

I agree that these are more popular because of the variety, but it also makes me wonder whether the whole Sorcerer's Stone set of inserts is starting to zoom up in value. This one card is listed at a BIN that's about half of what a case originally sold for, and a typical case would have had one of the Wizard Candy variations. It's tough to find any sellers of unopened boxes or cases. Maybe I was too picky when I was searching for nice variations for Shopping List and Invitation Letter?

I know this is maybe a little off topic, but for those who like their wizard candy, I wanted to show you the pack of Exploding Bon-bons I made.

I have recreated all of the artwork from scratch. The bon-bons themselves are actually polystyrene balls.

Thanks Everyone.

I am well on the way to completing a chocolate frog box. The intention is to use the correct star spangled gold foil on the interior and include an accurate 3D (lenticular) wizard card of Dumbledore matching the screen effect. I'll also be including a chocolate frog (although it's really painted plastic!).

: sfmuggle November 14, 2007, 02:00:04 AM
That would be really nice!!!  Some friends and I were just talking about how cool it would be if there was a chocolate frog box w/ lenticular Dumbledore.

btw, speaking of bon bons, just noticed this auction, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180173761349&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:GB:1123

Thanks to Lick-O-Rish Spider, I have moved on apace. I've also made good progress on a couple of the Azkaban Prophets. At the moment I am trying to finish off a pack of Bertie Bott's beans and then back to the Chocolate Frog bax.

Thanks Bitsy  ;D  Kevin, what an incredible prop.  very nice.  Please keep them coming  :o

Hey Everyone,

I am making good progress with the Fizzing Whizbees. It would really help if people can post scans of their prop cards for reference. I have a few that have been featured earlier in this thread and a few from ebay, but any more would be great. Also, even if you have already posted your card, it would be great if you could post a scan at 300dpi.

Then it'll be either the Bertie Botts Beans or I'll grasp the nettle and get back to my Chocolate Frog box.

Thanks in advance.

I can't remember what I scanned this in and unfortunately we are scannerless at the moment (Microsoft VISTA  >:() >:()) but hopefully this will help

very nice Sharon!!! especially the first one.  I don't have any of the fizzing wizzbees props but it's on my list.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: Kevin November 28, 2007, 01:23:17 PM
Thanks Sharon. That's great.
In case you haven't noticed, there are two type of Fizzing Whizbee package; those where the title arcs over, and those where it arcs under (does that make sense?). I am working on the assumption that they are the front and the back of the packet.

I wasn't aware of that partially b/c I've not seen all too many. However, your explanation makes sense  :)

Is it possible that there are two packages, one made for SS and the other redesigned for POA?

: Re: Wizard Candy
: Kevin November 29, 2007, 01:16:16 AM
Good idea, but no.
Anybody with this particular prop card (which is from PoA) can check for themselves. It took me a while to notic this, but in the large photo there is one packet of candy that has the upward curve and the rest have the downward curve. This coupled with the illustration of the head being reversed makes me fairly confident that it's front and back.
The left of this picture shows a detail from the prop card and an actual prop photographed on exhibition in Japan. The picture on the left includes both the up and down curves.

Kudos for your attention to detail! :D

In case you need a close-up of the bee on the bottom of the label, Anna pulled this card from one of her boxes.  I think it's one of the best prop swatches I've seen for any HP card. :)

: Re: Wizard Candy

Fantastic!
Thanks for that. I was resigned to trying to draw that image from scratch. I'll still need to redraw it to get a clean version, plus the head and shoulders are the same as the much larger version on the top of the box, but this means I can be sure that what I do is accurate.

Thank you again!

: sfmuggle November 29, 2007, 06:51:49 AM
Anna's candy prop swatch is super nice (lucky to catch a face image from box).  LikORish-Spider's collection is incredible.  I've not seen this many examples from one source.  Very nice & very lucky  ;D

Here's one more from me #330.  Thanks for sharing folks  :D

: Re: Wizard Candy
: Kevin November 29, 2007, 01:55:06 PM
!!!!

Thanks to everyone but, LikORish-Spider, how do you do it?
The only real problem remaining to me was all the offset circles. I have enough detail to do the outer ones, but those behind the lettering and the little Queen Bee seemed hopeless. 082, 192 and 378 are going to be a great help.

Thank you, again. I'll post a picture here soon of my progress so far.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: PepperD November 29, 2007, 02:02:44 PM
Good Grief!!  Every time LikORish puts up cards I feel overwhelmed..  Yep that's it   :)  I hope they are all insured.

And thanks Sharon and Cindy for the neat cards.   sf you have ANOTHER brilliant card?  Wow   :o   :P

Good luck Kevin,  you are doing such great props I look forward very much to seeing it.

: Re: Wizard Candy
: Kevin November 30, 2007, 12:05:22 AM
Thanks PepperD.

Thanks to the latest cards posted here I can see that the picture of the QueenBee herself at the bottom of the packet is bigger on one side. I assume the bigger side is the one where the text curves upwards in the middle. Also the patter of circles is different for each side. I am now trying to work out which cards came from which sides to extrapolate the pattern of nested rings.

Glad I could help. I don't have all of my cards scanned into my photobucket yet. I did add some other Wizard Candy pix.

LikORish-Spider has the most amazing collection.  I'm so jealous  :D but awesome to see so many nice cards in one place.  Thanks for sharing.
