I absolutely loved the stage version and have the original cast recording which I listen to often. I have many gripes about the movie which I'll spare you all. It's just a pity the film didn't get made back in 1990 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman--would have been much better.
The costumes were absolutely beautiful though. And some lovely cinematography. The girl who played Christine (Emily ?) does have a beautiful voice. And a top bloke. My mum wrote to him when he was doing Phantom all those years ago and he wrote back a lovely letter ;D
