Upper Deck just released a product called Ultimate Collection Hockey - it is Super High End - retail of $100 a pack (although you could get it for a little less than $75 a pack if preordered.)

I will post more on this product if people think it is interesting.?.  After all this is where I think nonsport cards will go eventually.

Wow! :o  Those cards are really awesome, but who can afford to take a chance at $100 a pack?  I pulled a Yserman jersey out of a pack YEARS ago.  It was one of the first jersey sets to come out.  I think it was Upper Deck.  I should get it out and see how much it's worth today.  Good thing my husband doesn't like card collecting.  He's a HUGE Ranger fan. :)

Yzerman is my #1 collecting interest.  I would love to see a scan of it.  Maybe we can trade some HP for the Yzerman.

I just went browsing on eBay for the Yzerman jersey, but no one has it listed.  I think it came out at least mid 90's, maybe earlier.  I'll check my boxes for it.  I know it's in a screwdown holder somewhere. ::)

It's definately 1996 Upper Deck.  I may be willing to trade. 8)  I'll have to dig through my hockey collection to find it first. ::)

From the first ever Hockey jersey card set from UD.  The gold lettering didn't show up on the scan.  I scanned it through a snap case.

Got my packs in the mail today.....some really cool cards, still in the middle on it just glad I ordered early, cases of this product have already gone up $500 and it just went live Friday. :o

For $100 a pack, do they guarantee you an insert at least? I can't imagine forking out that amount of miney for 5 base cards :o

Surely there's got to be an autograph or jersey auto per pack, but I didn't look to get details as I can't afford it anyway. :'(  Hey, Beckham, make sure you post your cards here soon.  I would like to know what you got. ;D

You get 1 auto and 1 memorabilia card in every pack, a few of mine actually had three.  None were short, there were some very nice cards, will post some scans soon (maybe not til this weekend I have to get the scanner back out)  Oh and my HP Update that I got CHEAP comes in Wed, maybe I am just excited about it because it will feel alot better to open a case that was half of what I spent on the others.

Now imagine if Artbox did a few cards with Patches from the quiddich robes like that...how much would those go for.  Nonsport manufacturers really should follow the lead of sportscards, I really think that is what some have been doing and made really popular inserts.

I just got an email from someone I have bought alot of hockey boxes from that I had enquired about a box of the upcoming ITG Ultimate Memorabilia Hockey to try to get a presell price on it as it comes out the end of the month. ( I have got a box or two every year so far)

They have cut back production by 60% this year due to the lockout, no card is #'d higher than 60 and most are 25 or less and there are hundreds of 1/1 cards.  Anyway the presell price she gave me was $640 a box (I think I peed my pants when I read that as it is almost double last years >:())  Why do they have to put all the good releases out at the same time.

Oh and in case you were wondering 5 packs per box.  1 auto and one memorabilia(including auto'd memorabilia per box)

So 10 cards for $640....errr.  Only $64 a card :'(

they have had these for a few years now. I got 2 packs of baseball once when I picked up mt ROTK wave one boxes, pulled a 1200 prior card, so thought to pre order some baseketball, sold like mad I got the box ( 4 packs ) for pretty cheap what they weregoing for on ebay. Got some decent cards. I will have to get a scan of my lebron auto. I almost passed out when i got it. the cards are nice, thick, numbered but not worth what they sell for.

imagine LOTR cards like this? merry auto would be 15,000.

if I remmeber right the dual MJ and lebron basketball card went for 70,000+
there was 4-5 dual autos or autos that went for 50k+

Yeah, I just one an auction for a card I have been looking for!  I lost one for it about 4 months back, and ended up about $25 cheaper on this one!   Double auto and double memorabilia to 35 :o

Patrick Roy and Jose Theodore Dual NHL Patch card (I will post a scan tonight promise) but it looks exactly like this one only two different players and is 1/1.

Are these cards much bigger than non sports sized cards or do American players have very small patches ??

I am being conservative I think by guessing $2,000.  It could go as high as $5,000 with the right bidders.

THe next big hockey product comes out this week.  It is $600-$700 a box (presell) with 5 packs per box, 1 auto and 1 memorabilia card per pack and 1 base card per pack # to 45 or 1/1.  So a total of 2,000 boxes in the whole print run. 

From what I hear there is also supposed to be 1,000 cards that are only going to be 1/1's.  So they should fall about every other box.  I have my eye on one card....so hopefully it gets put on ebay by whoever gets it.  It will likely be pricey but be the top card in my collection if I can swing it. (well I guess behind my 15 lupin jackets) :rofl:

So how is the popularity of sports cards in the US - is it still madly high?

Well I took the plunge on a card that is really rare.  Don't you hate it when you get that one person who is willing to shell out the dough that you are bidding against.  If it hadn't been for that one other bidder I might have had a real steal at $85.

Sportscards are pretty big, much more so than nonsport, however new and exciting ideas tend to be a little in short supply.  About 5-6 years ago getting a jersey card was a big deal and they were very valuable.  Now you can pick up almost any normal run of the mill jersey card for $2-$15.  And only the best player demand $15 for a jersey card.  Unless it is a rare multicolor or something very unique its not worth much.  Even the auto's aren't as great. Now they are trying to put out very limited #'s of inserts.  Like the newest hockey product from upperdeck is pushing the new octograph.  The octograph is 8 autos 4 on the front 4 on the back of players who share a common thread.  Like 8 great goalies but they are very very limited in production.

A newly acquired card set....these cards truly would fetch easily over $1000 seperately, likely more like $1500 especially with so many two color cards, I have chased many of the singles and been outbid, someone call the police this was a steal, without further ado
