: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak April 26, 2005, 05:03:30 AM
A thread for random FOTR ;), TT and ROTK box breakdowns  :D

I'll start:
The mailman knocked early this morning with my TT hobby box, I couldn't resist, and...

A TT MERRY!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Not my Leggy, but I am happy ;) I do have 2 Merrys now though so one at least will go on Ebay or trade

Woo hoo wow that is a great pull. TT I think would be one of the best boxes to pull an auto as the TT set is really nice (not as nice as FOTR but 2nd in my view) Well done!  :D

: blackcat20 April 26, 2005, 05:16:46 AM
Thats fantastic, congratulations! Boy does your mailman come early!

Now, what are the chance my box contains the leggy  ;D

: Re:LOTR box breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak April 26, 2005, 05:18:58 AM
Thanks :D I pulled it from the 6th pack (Eomer) so I opened all the other Eomer packs and pulled 8 foils with no duplicates (missing 3 and 4).  The Legolas and Aragorn foils have a while patch on the top edge :P But all in all, worth my money ;)

So Eomer had all the goodies - I thought the auto and foil cards came in 2 separate types of packs? I still have 20 Frodo and Sam/Saruman packs left to open. But I'm not expecting anything out of the ordinary there!

I also noticed that alot of the cards tended to stick to each other - luckily not to the auto :-\

I guess my LOTR luck is better than my HP luck!

Great pull FTY!!  :)  I need a Legolas Auto card but unfortunately do not have the cash!!   :'(

Ahh you will Ed, and maybe whilst you are saving up the autos will reduce in price, although Legolas shows no sign of doing that (as the OB machine is still on top form)- well actually the FOTR has come down a bit - it was (not so very long ago) about $550 but now the difference in price of FOTR to TT has definitely lessened :)

: Re:LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak April 27, 2005, 07:40:48 PM
Yeah - I was nearly crazy enough to buy a FOTR leggy for $530 once ::) Thank heavens I was outbid and managed to buy one for a bit less. They are still holding up at about $370-400 though. TT ones have gone UP since I bought mine a couple of years back they are now about $200-250.

Still - a hard knock for the credit card, eh Roz? ;)

Any news on when you are going to pull that variant Leggy from your TT box, Kate? I would have thought that you'd have received it by now :-X

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 06, 2005, 09:36:09 AM
nope, hasnt arrived yet, unless its sitting at home or at the post office right now  :-\ I got an email early this week (sun/mon) saying they had received my payment and it was on its way, so hopefully it should be here soon, and with a leggy in it  :o=

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 10, 2005, 10:12:17 AM
Well, my box has finally arrived and is awaiting collection from the post office, so hopefully by tonight, given my impatience when it comes to opening packs, I should be able to let you know what auto i get  ;D

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns

Ahhhhhhh! I have been almost as excited as you wondering what you are going to pull! I can't wait to hear what it turns out to be!

I have my fingers crossed for you that you had the good luck I had and that the Leggy is in your box :o=

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 10, 2005, 03:32:10 PM
Unfortunately it didnt turn out quite as exciting as I hoped... I pulled an Eomer auto, which I love, its just that I already have one.

If anyone is interested in buying one, pm me an offer, otherwise ill pop it up on  :ebay:

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak May 10, 2005, 03:41:49 PM
Oh bad luck... You pulled a duplicate as well! :-\ Mine is up on Ebay ATM

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 10, 2005, 03:47:21 PM
Thats the kind of luck I have with lotr boxes  :-\ but i figure i keep this card, and sell the one I got off ebay. plus if I sell the base sets ill make some of my money back... anyways, its always a gamble, just hope i do better with HP SS  ;D

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak May 10, 2005, 04:15:19 PM
Yeah... same here - hopefully I will get around to sorting the base cards soon - we can help each other out with missing cards :)

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 10, 2005, 04:41:43 PM
I was just about to ask, do you need any TT foils? I have numbers 1-6 and I already have a full set...

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: ferdinand_the_yak May 10, 2005, 06:40:59 PM
Saruman has kindly offered to send me the ones I am missing already. Thanks anyway! :-*

I cannot recall if there were Retail and Hobby Boxes for The Two Towers.  Can someone help me out here?  Where did the Merry and Legolas Auto cards come from it there were 2 types of boxes?  Thanks.

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 May 21, 2005, 06:07:49 PM
There were both retail and hobby boxes, but they all had the same autos(incl Merry and Leggy), they were just harder to get in the retail boxes (not sure of the exact odds...)

Thanks for the info Blackcat!   :)

Well I've been feeling very ill this week, and hit rock bottom today, so in my pain I vowed when Mark got home I'd open a box of cards. The only problem was WHAT? ROTK? ROTKU? PoA? Trilogy?

I went for ROTKU - willing there to be a PJ auto in there - I wasn't fussy - a TTT one would do but it would be a miracle ;)

Anyway I DID get an auto!

But alas not PJ, but instead Sala Baker.

Actually I am pretty happy. This past half hour I have relived the ROTK, the stunning imagery, oohed and ahhed over what has to be one of the best films of all time, it is a beautiful base set :) And even got an auto out of it, soo all in all great stuff :)

Well, I finally busted open the ROTK box that has been sitting at the back of my wardrobe for almost three years...

I pulled...... a black signed Theoden!

Unfortunately, I got a Theoden out of the ROTK box I got when the set came out....but hey, at least they are different.

Depending on how I feel, it may be available for sale at some point...

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns

I pulled one of his black signed auto cards as well way back when!   :)   It was the first black signed auto card I had seen and I was a bit disturbed thinking something was wrong.   It was not too long after that I started to see a few auctions on ebay with Theoden's auto card signed in black and the explanation making them a bit rarer than the regular blue signed ones.  I think Christopher Lee signed some in black if I am not mistaken.

In my never-ending quest to be the proud owner of a Leggy auto, I bought another TT box last week....and would you belive....another Theoden!

So I gave up on the boxes, and just bought this little beauty:

Im absolutely over the moon!!!  ;D Ive been waiting for this for about 5 years, and the price was pretty darn good.

;D Congrats!! Hopefully one day I will get one too  ::)

ANOTHER Theoden  :o man you have bad luck with those TT boxes!

: Re: LOTR sets; odds, pictures and box/case breakdowns
: blackcat20 July 20, 2007, 06:10:17 AM
I know! Ive opened 5 lotr boxes, and pulled three Theodens! So i figured the money was better spent buying the card I wanted...plus the prices have dropped so much  ;D

: ferdinand_the_yak July 20, 2007, 07:00:36 AM
Yay Kate!!! I know you've been waiting to get one of these for ages - congrats!

Now you need to get the matching TT one ;)

No!!!! lol. I think one is more than enough, though Ive always liked the TT picture better...but the FOTR has a better auto...
