: Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: LikORish-Spider April 10, 2005, 08:36:43 PM
I got this info from my "reliable source":

Here is what I can tell you so far, 8000 boxes numbered (and I believe they will be sold out this week) a lot of people will be short as most are taking a wait and see position and it will be to late for them . I have taken a huge position on this product as I think it is going to be great.
They are going to put
5 costume,
5 autos,
5 props,
3 film cells
in each case which should make people very happy.   ;D  ;D  ;D (I'll say!!!)
There are going to be a lot of great prop cards. I will let you know more this week as I believe something will be posted shortly.

For those who wonder...I don't share info without permission of my coresspondent. I asked if I could share this. The response:

Yes you can but it might change, but that is what I have been told and I am hoping that something will be posted this week in writing instead of words.

Look up "scuttlebutt" if you don't know what it means.  ??? I'm sure that all the ole pirates know.  ;)

If this turns out to be true, the cases will be worth the money.  I'm glad I have my order in!  Of course, you'd have to call my position "small" with just two boxes! ;)

Yes, and I have not not seen any mention of TINs or Binders.  I don't hear of many Promo cards in different colors either. Has anyone heard about these things? I think I read that they are using the same binder as the PoA, which makes no sense to me. I hope I misunderstood.

I have my SS Binder on pre-order with triangle cards.  Promo P3 comes with the binder.  I hadn't heard of any "color" promos or tins either.

Another thing, too. I wonder if they are going to plant any hot boxes in the cases like the did with PoA.
That would be a cause to celebrate if you got one of those.

: gimli April 11, 2005, 01:39:16 AM
There is still little info available on this set. I just want to know a release date. I was told on friday 2nd week of May maybe??

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 03:12:36 AM
So it definately has been pushed back?  I was thinking they said end of April originally.  ANd aren't they supposed to release Charlie ACF around that same time?

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: kbmum April 11, 2005, 04:36:31 AM
I asked Tomunique, and he said that the rumor about the change of date wasn't true.  Yet, I'm sure Gimli has his info from a good source, too.  It's just another example of Artbox's lack of communication.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: Morningangel-Iola April 11, 2005, 04:40:43 AM
Geeze we've already waited nearly four years for SS  ::)

(Wonders if Dan will be getting his pension when we finally get it  :P)

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 05:00:10 AM
I guess if we assume that info is fairly accurate does 800 cases sound like to much.  I am sure that they will be sold out from Artbox, but we all know that doesn't mean that much for the collector.

What I question the most is how many people have given up collecting HP after HP POA Update was so impossible.  I think we will see more secondary value, but I still think that the prospector vs. collector will still screw up some of this set.  I am sure at least half of the case run will be bought by people who want to hold on to them or open and sell inserts and really have no interest in collecting the cards.

What does anyone else think?

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 05:02:00 AM
I have nothing against people who do a little prospecting, but if you aren't a dealer and you buy a lot of cases strictly for the purpose of selling everything you pull or selling the boxes if they go up that is what ruined POA Update.

I so hope those people don't ruin this set, too.  Just think if you took all those people out of the Update mix, how many of us would have master sets from Update too.    :(

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 11, 2005, 05:15:51 AM
The way i have been receiveing product lately it could be released the end of April but we in the Uk would not get it til the second week od may ( i am after all still waiting for Star Trek Next Gen Quotable)  >:(

and I can confirm there will be a Exclusive UK multi Case Incentive (no idea yet how many cases you will have to buy to get one)  ???

as for this selling out I am quite suprised as most people I know are not stocking it due to the performance of the last product so i would be supprised if it is sold out.  ???

I only have sold 1 box on pre order from anyone and I have now stopped taking pre orders as I have already placed my order for the product.  :-\

Only time will tell but if this one is bad then no one will touch another potter release ever  ::)

I think it will be a nice set but potter update was a nice set with great cards just too much of a good thing.

If the product comes in numbered boxes i think that may help (especially so we know how much was produced) you have heard 8000 boxes but I have heard numbers ranging from 6999, 7500, 8000, and 10,000 boxes so it is all down to art box to give us the real truth. I would say don't beleive anything till Artbox say for definate (if they ever do) but one thing is for sure it is time we knew. It already is too late as most places are no longer taking pre orders and that is where most dealers and distributers base their orders on.

I know that this product scares me I lost a lot of money on POA Update and this could be the same??

we could guess there is a 25 case, 10 case incentives as both sets before had cards like that. There were incentives for the UK on POAU that are now practically worthless and even the 10 case and 25 case cards sell for a fraction of what they should. It is all a little worrying. I think if you want to collect this set buy a few boxes as it will be a great set but if you want to make money it is anyones guess as to the future value of these potter cards. The last potter set put a lot of dealers out of business what will this one do?

Good luck to you all

we may need it

just to say i have a master set of both beckham1 and am happy to own them and love them no matter what the value may be

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: kbmum April 11, 2005, 05:20:02 AM
Just think if you took all those people out of the Update mix, how many of us would have master sets from Update too.    :(

I'm not sure.  Artbox produced the run based on demand.  If fewer people had ordered, or placed smaller orders, the run would have been adjusted accordingly and it might still be difficult to get a master set.  After all, there are an awful lot of cards in this set.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 11, 2005, 05:37:30 AM
well yes it looks like to be a large set again to collect

I hear

6 - 8 autographs
9 - 10 costumes
10 - 15 prop cards
cinema cards (9 would not suprise me)
Plus case cards 25, 10  and Uk Incentives

Promo, Chase, Box and base cards

I think we are looking at at least 30+ Inserted chase cards to collect this is no small set especially if you are going for that master set.

then again if what has previously been said is true that there will be a minimum of
5 costume,
5 autos,
5 props,
3 film cells
per case

then 18 chase per case ain't bad but if 10 of those is a lupin coat eqivilate we are all stuffed  >:(

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 05:41:47 AM
I see your point on that, I am sure many of us didn't even try because there were to many cards. But if the production run would have been less we probably wouldn't have pulled 3 Lupin Jackets per case, 3 Harry Quidditch, and 3 sleeping bags per case.  I know for me that would have meant I would have had a better chance at the set.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 05:44:01 AM

just to say i have a master set of both beckham1 and am happy to own them and love them no matter what the value may be
I think it is safe to say it will not be 6999 boxes, if it is then Roz will get the case with 9 boxes 8)

And I think it is great you have a master set of both and I hope 10 years from now that all the auto's from update are worth so much that you can get all the money you lost on Update back out of this set (should you ever need to)

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 11, 2005, 05:46:01 AM
All we can hope is that there will be a decent amount of cards within everyones reach although i hear there could be a very low numbered card in the product this time

very worrying if it is true It will cost me a load to complete this set and with 2 master sets already i have a lot to get to make it 3

that would be nice to get some of my losses back but that is too much to ask for

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: ferdinand_the_yak April 11, 2005, 05:47:07 AM
Thanks for sharing that info LikOrish... the higher amount of inserts per case if they can guarantee this will mak it a great set. But I really want to know what the inserts ARE. I don't think I will be as excited about the insert rate if there are going to be the same Harry, Hermione black cloaks or Quidditch robes again :P

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: kbmum April 11, 2005, 06:30:43 AM
I hope that there's a good balance between low-numbered and high-numbered cards.  People like me can't afford the equivalent of a chocolate frogs or exploding bon bons, but it isn't quite as much fun to buy two boxes and pull two cards that have print runs over 2000.

I also worry about dud boxes.  It's bad enough to get one in a case, when a collector still has a chance to make up for it with the other nine boxes.  But when a person gets only one or a few boxes, it's much worse.

Everyone is hearing five costumes per case?  I heard 10, or one per box.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: beckham1 April 11, 2005, 08:09:26 AM
OK here is what my source has told me:

Says this is from Artbox directly:

approx 10 autos, 7 costumes, 15 props, 9 film cell cards.

*less than 1000 cases to be produced.

Please note, the numbers are approximate, until we have confirm**

Again leaves lots of room for change.  This person also told me that he warned the VP of Sales (I think that is Mike Simon right??) at Artbox about overproducing the update set (I am pretty confident in my conversations with him he has said a few time he directly calls a few of the top dogs at Artbox), but he said they got to greedy.

He also said he has continually asked them for a checklist or ratio's of cards, but has been told nothing to this point.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards

We will have 5 autographs per case, 10 costumes per case (1
per box), 5 prop cards per case, 3 film cards per case, 1 case topper
(best looking ones so far), 1 box topper per box.

For every 5 cases you will get 2 promo sets
For every 10 cases you will get a 10 case incentive prop card
For every 25 cases you will get a 25 case incentive prop card

Props

Over 10 prop cards including sorcerer's stone
Over 10 costume cards
Over 10 autograph cards

This is what I have heard. And it's direct from Mike @ Artbox so I would
hope it will not change, but with Artbox you just never know.

The number of cases estimates from 800 (US sources) to 650 (UK sources) so
I'd err on the side of caution and say at least 800. I think numbered boxes
would be lovely.

This set needs Hotboxes again in my opinion, it created a "buzz" about the
cases. And of course Becks if I am only getting a 9 box case then my last
space in my case will just be stuffed with all the remaining Alan Rickman
autos right? (NO ALAN RICKMAN AUTO EVEN RUMOURED YET SO DON'T GET YOUR
KNICKERS IN A TWIST IN ANITCIPATION).

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: LikORish-Spider April 11, 2005, 07:36:34 PM
Speaking of Case Toppers, I hope they put in some special "normal" numbered cards. Speaking for myself, I am not really fond of the lenticular format, they just don't seem to fit.
I like the idea of  the UK case cards like the Rare Ron's Robe of 100 and the Rare Harry's Robe of 100. If they were to issue normal numbered cards as case toppers, I would also hope that they would use a unique design instead of an existing design with a different limited issue.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: ferdinand_the_yak April 11, 2005, 07:42:55 PM
Yeah - I totally agree - if they do one more Harry black robe, I am going to start eating my base sets :P

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: Roz April 11, 2005, 07:49:43 PM
I think for this one at least they are sticking with lenticular as Mike says the SS are the best looking ones so far.

He might have mentioned if they had changed them to normal cards... but we'll see

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: ferdinand_the_yak April 11, 2005, 07:57:46 PM
I was never a fan of the lenticulars... people have said that they look better close up, but I still am not a fan :-\

I like the lenticular cards. ;D  I especially like the Hermione punching Draco one. ;)  What would be better though is for Artbox to number the lenti cards like the normal cards.  To me numbered cards are more "official" collectibles.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 11, 2005, 11:48:26 PM
of course if there are only 800 cases any item numbered over 800 will average 1 per case and if there is any at 1600 there will be 2 per case!

Remember the original set the weasley Quiditch robe was some times 3 per case as there was 1300 of them and only 500 ish cases.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards

he hee - that's true. I only got one in 5 boxes so perhaps I should regard myself as lucky ;)

I think it is so funny that Mike @ Artbox says that is the info, yet the peron who told me the info I posted and many of you are familiar with him (hint: He goes by ______Cards ((it is a shape))

And I know he talks to Mike directly also.  So there we have it. Conflicting info that is supposed to come from the same source.  It just doesn't make sense to me, this is the same thing that happened with Update, we would get information from realiable sources and then when it comes out certainly not very accurate.

The only thing i hope for is no dud boxes

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: ztaylork April 12, 2005, 07:57:04 AM
I am sure there will be dud boxes, I don't think artbox is capable of not having dud boxes.   I think they should change there name from artbox to dudbox.  :)  or if they do manage to fix it, it will be because they insert a costume card numbered to 100,000 inserted 20 per box and then in that case they should name the company nearly-dudbox which will work well in the theme of harry potter, maybe the 100,000 numbered prop card can be a piece of nearly-headless-nick and it can just be invisible.  Just my thoughts on the competency level of artbox, sorry if any employees from artbox are reading this (or rather having their mother read it to them)  I am sorry this turned into a rip on artbox, but in under a years time I have gone from praising them because of their creativity and I even sent them an email explaining that I thought they did a great job in comparison to topps, but now I feel bad, as I would almost gladly take a boring topps product that had an autograph in every box (or 2 and a costume in chrome) over artbox products.  sorry for the ranting, my 1 year old daughter kept me up a lot last night.  :)

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards

Aren't the hotbox boxes a little more bulgy than the others?  So if you are buying only a couple boxes, chances are the dealer won't send you the "bulgy' box.

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: ferdinand_the_yak April 12, 2005, 10:03:18 PM
So 3 Shack members got 20% of the total amount of hotboxes out there!

And I think with hotboxes, the lenticulars in them rattle when you shake the box... that was the rumour anyway!

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 12, 2005, 10:37:55 PM
Well I personally think it is time artbox got the info out there we are almost half way through april already and still not much more than vague rumours this set is supposed to be out before the end of this month and that is quite worrying in terms of lack of info.

but i have to say i ain't really all that shocked

one of 2 things will happen

1 it will be bad news and everyone will be releaved they didn't pre order any

2 it will be a great set and everyone will start to panic

*hands up*

John's right and I am wrong. Apparently Mike made a mistake, it's 5 costumes a case!

Sorry if that throws out Gimli's calculations  :-\

: Re:Lastest scuttlebutt on SS cards
: gimli April 13, 2005, 05:25:53 AM
ok so lets make those changes
then there would be an average number of

15 props with an average of 266 of each
9 costumes with an average of 444 of each
8 Autos with an average of 500 of each
9 Film cards with an average of 266 of each

5 autos
5 Props
5 costumes and
3 film cards per case

but of course that is quite a drop 5 cards less a case so it is 2 boxes per case with 1 card and 8 with 2 maybe
