: One of a kind auto? : Goofyjas April 01, 2005, 11:26:54 PM Today I decided to rip open a few boxes as I wont ever get one sealed of them all, missing TT and FOTR-H
So I opened them up and got some ok stuff, will post a list of what I got if anyone needs in a while after I calm down. I opened my fotr retail box that I had opened but knew it was the next best thing but anyway I started opening and with a few packs left I saw the back of an auto, I was like OMFG! I was like no way! so I pulled it up and I was like WHOA YES!! I never thought I would get an auto, but I flipped it over and I dont know if I shoul dbe happy or not... Is this a one of a kind or has anyone see one of these before? : Re:One of a kind auto? : EmmasOneandOnly April 01, 2005, 11:40:24 PM But isnt that a varient?
: Re:One of a kind auto? : kbmum April 01, 2005, 11:44:01 PM It depends on the collector. Some think it is, others don't. Personally, I'd much rather have the auto than a blank.
: Re:One of a kind auto? : EmmasOneandOnly April 01, 2005, 11:45:54 PM If you want a auto then I'd send it in.
: Re:One of a kind auto? : Sharon April 02, 2005, 12:26:50 AM I'd think very carefully about what to do. The signed one is the most expensive and I have just done a quick search of Ebay and all the card shops I have in my favourites and I can't find one unsigned one.
In the price guide it says he didn't return many signed ones. Now this could mean two things; either there are loads of unsigned ones floating around or you do have a very rare card. I would put out some feellers before you rush into anything. Also as these are quite old now what are the chances of Topps having any to replace this with. At worst you could maybe go to a show and get him to sign your blank card and make a lovely variant. ;) : Re:One of a kind auto? : ferdinand_the_yak April 02, 2005, 04:44:40 AM I think it would make a nice variant as it is... it would be cool if you could get it signed, but the auto might fade if it was not protected by the UV coating they have on the cards.
Keep it as it is - next to your signed FOTR Merry (:P). Nice to have one of each for collections sake... but I have never really seen the point of blank autographs TBH. I think it would fetch quite a bit on Ebay - think Sean Bean unsigned! I've never seen one of these before. Maybe stick it up on Ebay for a few days and see what it would fetch? (Yes I know this is naughty ;))It would probably make up for quite a bit of your collection of you sold it ;) It sucks that you looked and thought you had a FOTR Merry just for a few seconds... : Re:One of a kind auto? : Nienna April 02, 2005, 04:49:29 AM WOW Jas!! :o
That is an amazing card to pull, signed or not and I think Sharon's advice is sound about what to do (or not to do) next. Of the cards he has signed, very few of them have been legible at best and in all honesty I wouldn't part with my hard-earned cash for any of them. However, the ones you can read have always sold for a small fortune ... perhaps you could get him to sign it for you, provided he's Stateside any time soon? I've no idea on how you could get the UV coating put onto it if he did sign it at this late stage though ... I don't envy you trying to decide on this one! :-\ : Re:One of a kind auto? : ferdinand_the_yak April 02, 2005, 05:00:29 AM Definitely take your time... its not like you are likely to EVER see something like this again, unless you have several FOTR retail boxes lying around...
I wonder if he'll ever get around to tell us what else he has pulled... I daresay this card will keep you occupied for a while ;) : Re:One of a kind auto? : Choice of LĂșthien April 02, 2005, 07:51:54 AM ooh. another unsigned auto. interesting.
I wouldn't rush to decide. Personally the unsigned ones hold no interest for me, but there appear to be many collectors out there who will pay $$ for the unsigned variants. ::) You could keep it as an addition to your collection or sell it and make some money. : Re:One of a kind auto? : Roz April 04, 2005, 01:52:13 AM Jas - after April 1st you are supposed to TELL people it's an April fool!
*just be glad he didn't switch your salt and sugar pots around people - and then leave them that way for 3 days ::) : Re:One of a kind auto? : Sharon April 04, 2005, 02:02:17 AM :-[ Don't know if I'm gullible or just too trusting. But great April Fool. I totally believed it :D
Of course if anyone does have an unsigned Merry....... : Re:One of a kind auto? : Roz April 04, 2005, 02:11:21 AM Well it was a very nice card. However it should have had a Yak on it
*takes off marks for Jas' lack of Yakness* ;D : Re:One of a kind auto? : Goofyjas April 04, 2005, 03:19:47 AM Oops I forgot about that :(
