I just bought some screw down holders that ARE archival safe.  What I didn't notice is that they are for thicker cards (120 pts).  Is is still safe to put thinner cards, like the costumes, in these?

i'd say its fine to put the costume cards in it

As long as you put the card in a sleeve first, the corners will be protected should it move around inside the holder.

A penny sleeve?  Honestly, I never use one once the card in in the holder, because you can't see the card as well. To play it safe, I can always go get more, or return the ones I bought.

I was under the impression that you should use a penny sleeve with a screwdown holder.  Maybe someone else knows?

are penny sleeves the plastic things.why can't you put them in a screw down.does it damage the card

They put pressure on the card an can damage it - in some cases the sleeve can end up sticking to the card and you end up having to cut it off. This is especilly true for tighter fitting screwdowns and if you live in humid areas... :-X

Gee FTY, I didn't know about all of these negative things that could happen to your card. :o  I've left off the penny sleeve only because it blurs the card image, but thanks to you I now know better. ;D

I was a bit unsure about taking off the sleeve and putting the card in the holder when I first started as well - what if the card surface got scratched! - and the fact that it was an auto card was even worse. But then I heard horror stories (I think it was from the Topps board) about the plastic in sleeves sticking and moulding to the surface of the card due to moisture in the holder/air. After that, I just made sure I had a clean holder and that I kept it out of light and air :)

Glad to hear I am not doing something wrong.  So is the 120 pt thick on es okay for the regular sized cards?

I think you should get the proper size case.  The card will move around too much in the 120 pt. one.  The regular costumes should fit in a 50 pt one and it should cost you a little less than the thicker one too.

The thicker ones were cheap because I got them at a show in the mall.  I just didn't realize they were the 120pt thick ones,  I guess they will be fine until I replace them though.

You're probably right on that.  Just hang on to the thicker ones because you'll need them for the new HP props and costumes coming out. ;)
