NSU has partially updated its site with info about the April/May issue.  There are two HP-related stories:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
It’s back to the beginning for Artbox’s legions of Potterheads.

Alchemy at Artbox
Mike Maltzman brings focus to Artbox’s hocus-pocus.

I could be wrong but this title sounds like it could be about the Japanese cards they are translating about the Cartoon epic Full Metal Alchemist to me

You may be right.  The Artbox website has this little blurb on the homepage from August:

8/06/04: Artbox Entertainment is proud to announce new license, Universal Monsters/Full Metal Alchemist. More details soon!

I saw "hocus-pocus" and automatically thought they meant HP! :)  As Emily Litella would say, "Never mind."

I loved Gilda.  I really miss her. :(

Anna, I knew you'd be one of the few people here who would understand the reference! :)  Did you catch the SNL retrospective about a month ago?

Yes I saw it.  It brought back many fond memories of the show with the original cast. ;D

I ordered a single copy a while back and it arrived in a week or so, which is about right. I think the delays are more to do with subscription copies. If id known i wouldnt have subscribed..... ;D

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Roz March 21, 2005, 05:14:19 AM
In the film/tv section you can see a picture Artbox have kindly sent us  of the box for the Full Metal Alchemist cards. No real other details but I think it's a retail release anyway - no real chase except foils or whatever.

Am still looking forward to it - FMA is awesome though I wish some of my friends could stop revealing later plot twists to me inadvertently

I ordered this magazine through a local comic book shop, and they said that I was able to pick it up today. They'll be closing in less than 30 mins so I won't be able to make it today, but I'll have it tomorrow!

Anyone else got there's, yet?

I ordered mine a few days ago, not sure how long it will take to Australia, but with easter this weekend I guess it will be a bit longer than usual...

I bought mine from a dealer and it was mailed Monday.

And in the finale - they all turn into monkeys!

Ooops... was I not supposed to say that? Sorry :-[

: LikORish-Spider March 24, 2005, 11:08:06 PM
First, Roz, this site is the best I've ever seen.
I want to let everyone know how nice it is to be associated with civilized (or civilised) people.
It's great to not have to read a bunch of whinning and of topic jibberish. (Listen to me ;D)

Back to the topic:

I subscribed to NSU online for a year on Friday last. Monday I got my first magazine in my mail box.   :o I guess they mail the first one out 1st Class mail.   :D Anyway it's a great mag, in my opinion. No, I don't work for them.
I can see why so many people are card collectors. Some of the other sets. like LOTR, Star Wars, Stargate, etc,  look great. (I gotta stop looking at  'em!)

Anyway, bottom line, I recommend the mag, at least a trial issue. Hey, and a years  subscription is cheaper than a coffee shop cuppa a week would cost.

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Boggle March 24, 2005, 11:11:32 PM
Grrrrr! Still waiting for my mag to arrive! ???

: Re:NSU Magazine
: rns91294 March 24, 2005, 11:13:21 PM
How much is a year subscription?  It just seems weird to me to sibscribe since my husband works for a Magazine distributor (but this Mag doesn't go thru them).  I plan to pick up my copy at the Philly show for now.

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Boggle March 24, 2005, 11:27:11 PM
$21 for one year in the US, full details can be found here:

Is it big enough to go through a massive distributor? It doesn't seem to have any marks on of the big distributors, and it seems to be available worldwide only through Borders, Forbidden planet and a series of very enthusiastic cinema memorabilia stores.

Yeah notice how it's 3x as much for an international subscription? - it's NOT a heavy magazine!

: Re:NSU Magazine
: rns91294 March 25, 2005, 01:24:56 AM
I would assume it is big enough for a big distributor.  I now own a copy of the Charmed magazine that just came out (they also have Buffy, Stargate and Alias).  All of these go through my husbands company.  You would be surprised what kind of magazines go through that office, or the amount that are in my home.

LOL! ;D  Sounds like you could have a little side business selling used magazines on eBay!

You can do that...hmmm

: Total film Magazone
: Luluhime March 25, 2005, 02:11:14 AM
I bought the total film magazine today. It's got Johnny Depp on the front as willy wonka, and inside it has a preview on the CatCF movie, along with a preview for the GOF (harry potter) film. It has DVD with it also that includes a CatCF trailer, but it's not the best quality :P

Just letting anyone know that might be interested... ;D

Used?  Nope, he gets the magazinesa month or so before they hit the newstands.  Sometimes they are the ones that just released on the newstand as well.  He brought home a list of all magazines and it was thicker than the HP books!!!  I would love to tell you the name of some of them, but I think there are people here who may be offended or are too young to hear them.  It is just amazing what type of stuff is out there.  Of course, we get normal ones too...National Geographic, Newsweek, People, Business mags, Technology Mags, Photography, etc.  I just want them to make an HP one.

: Re:NSU Magazine
: kbmum March 25, 2005, 03:09:14 AM
I meant that after you've read them, then the magazines are used. :)

: Re:NSU Magazine
: rns91294 March 25, 2005, 03:12:50 AM
Believe it or not, many have never been read and some are still in packaging.  There are just too many for me to rea them all ;)

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Roz March 25, 2005, 06:43:53 PM
OK I've now had the chance to read the article and although we don't have anything reliable and new to add we do have some absoloutely GORGEOUS pictures of Hagrid's coat, what seems to be Harry's timetable (?), an invitation to study at Hogwarts (with what looks like a page with his kit list too) and Devil's snare. It's worth picking up if you see it - and of course you get promo 4 with it too :P

You're in the UK?  Roz mentioned some stores in a post on the first page of this thread:  Borders, Forbidden Planet and some cinema memorabilia stores.

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Luluhime March 26, 2005, 03:03:19 AM
Forbidden Planet do get them in, although they don't get many. The one near me are only expecting to get 7 copies, so if you have a FB near you, I suggest ringing up ASAP and reserving one.

awww!  ;D Just ring them up and ask  ;) I rung up just in time, I'm 7th on the list and they 'should be' getting 7 copies in. Fingers crossed I get one!  I think the bloke said they were about £3.50 each...not bad at all for something like that  ;D Even if he says that there are already enough people on the list, still ask to put your name down, just incase someone doesn't come for theirs, or they get more than expected in  ;)

: Re:NSU Magazine

Well it's supposed to be "out" but UK retailers just get it in any old time.

Apparently AndyfanLOTR got one in the UK from his local comic shop a week ago

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Sharon March 31, 2005, 05:11:46 PM
I actually know a sure fire way of getting an NSU.

First you get your parents to provide an older brother and 40 or so years down the line you get said brother to subscribe.  Then the clever bit; you nick the SS promo before he has a chance to get his hands on it ;D

My favourite oldest brothers NSU arrived yesterday and my cunning plan worked ;).

The Dartford one

It's strange that they had never heard of it  :-\ The one I got mine from (the Southampton one) has run out now, but if you want the next one, maybe you could PM me with your full name and then when I ring up to reserve the next one, I could put your name on the list 2. If I did manage to get 2 copies, I'd then send one to you...it's upto you, I don't mind  ;) ;D As for the recent one, it's still available from the NSU site for $10.50 (about £5.60). If it's just the SS promo card you're after, I should be getting 2 through the post soon, and I could send you one if you want ;)

: Re:NSU Magazine
: Morningangel-Iola April 01, 2005, 03:57:36 AM
It was really only the SS I wanted it for. How come you are getting two?

There aren't many FP arer there. I didn't realise it was a change and first.

You know what? I really don't know why I ordered 2 lol! They were pretty cheap and the seller offered me a really low shipping price (from the US) so I guess I just thought I'd get them whilst I could. If you PM me your address, then as soon as they drop through my letter box, I will package one up and send it to you  ;)
