Did anyone ever get a variant from this card???

I got one from the first set.  Sorry the picture is fuzzy.  I didn't take it out of the case when I scanned it. :-\

Edited:  Re-scanned picture without case.  It's much clearer now.  :)

i wonder where that variant is from though. is there any yellow on the robes?

: Re:George weasley quiddtich costume
: zero March 19, 2005, 04:06:35 PM
If I remember correctly, the team numbers are on the back of the robe. I think this is where it came from ... but I could be wrong.

Has anyone seen a variant like this for any of the update quidditch robes???

Anna this is getting scary.  First we are tie twins and now we have mirror image quidditch robes.  Mine is mainly yellow with a bit of red*.

If things carry on like this ie I get the same/similar cards to you, please, please, please pull a triple auto or lots of gorgeous variants from the SS set.  You are now my lucky charm, don't let me down ;D ;D ;D

* Note to self, must get a scanner :)

A Triple in SS, ohhhhh, Please, please. No, a triple costume cards maybe a triple wand cards,

: Re:George weasley quiddtich costume
: Sharon March 20, 2005, 03:11:13 AM
Just before people get too excited I have no insider knowledge about the SS cards - honest ;D

It was more wishful thinking that they do a triple auto; maybe Draco Crabbe and Goyle? Or Sirius, Remus and Snape :)

But I love the idea of a triple costume card.  That would be one to go into the red for ;D

Last spring, NSU Magazine ran an article about the first POA set.  Here's a picture of George's robes from the article.  The gold fabric could come from the stripes on the hood, the name, number, or star on the back of the robe.

Wow you are really in demand.  ;D

It looks to me like bits of star

I am actually not so sure it is a bit of star.  Mine is very similar (just a the yellow and red the other way round).  The points of the star look, well, very pointy :).  I think Anna's could actually be a bit of the Weasley, where it goes round in a semi circle.  You are right about the stitching, in 'real life' it is very clear.  And also the yellow looks almost like plastic or vinyl.

As you can see I am very happy with my George and have spent many hours looking at it.  The long winter nights just fly by* ;D ;D ;D

Someone asked if anyone has seen cards like this in the update.  I did see a Cedric one with brown (instead of Yellow) and then the two dual costume variants, one I have and the other one that sold shortly after.  But those have part of the patch on them.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: zero March 22, 2005, 05:11:30 AM
Yeah, I've seen all of those minus the brown Cedric Diggory. I was just wondering if there were Yellowish variants for the George Weasley Retail Card.

It's interesting that these quidditch cards have the emblem as opposed to the original George Weasley card.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

Have there been any of Harry Quidditch cards with yellow on?

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

So far, no one has seen a Harry Quidditch variant with a yellow in the swatch.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

But they could be at home, in people's collections who don't care to show them off to us.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

If you look at the Cedric card you van tell the came from the gold around his foot at the bottom of the card.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum March 23, 2005, 12:42:07 AM
I think the swatch comes from his cloak, not the shin guards (or whatever you want to call them).  The colors in the swatch curve as if it's part of a number or letter.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: EmmasOneandOnly March 23, 2005, 12:44:52 AM
Hmmm...possible. I wish artbox would make the swatch a little longer so we can see more ::)

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: rns91294 March 23, 2005, 01:31:02 AM
I agree with kbmum.  I think that this is definitely a part of a number or name.  I do not think it is part of the shin guards, although, actually, from being a soccer/futball fan, I think they actually wear socks over the shin guards, which is what those yellow and brown stripes at his ankles are from, I think.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum March 23, 2005, 01:54:40 AM
Besides, the black and gold on the swatch curve, but the stripes on the shin guards have straight lines.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

The full yellow swatches are very rare. Very rare! I can't be sure whether this is the second I have seen or whether this is the same one being sold again, but it's definitely rare!

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum March 23, 2005, 06:42:57 PM
There was one all-yellow swatch sometime last spring or summer, on a dealer website.  I can't remember who had it or the price (other than it was expensive), and it's long gone now.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: rns91294 March 24, 2005, 12:03:22 AM
I really would like one of these, but I am happy with my dual variant for now.  Maybe someday.....or if we ever start to see these on one of Harry's Quidditch robes.....

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum March 24, 2005, 01:18:28 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't any Harry Quidditch robe variants.  It sounds like one of the stupid contract issues we saw with permission slips not having writing on them.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: rns91294 March 24, 2005, 03:12:40 AM
So do you think Daniel isn't allowing them to use it?  That makes no sense, if they can cut up the outfit, they could use the patch and stuff, like they are with Cedric...you would think.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Luluhime March 24, 2005, 03:15:47 AM
There was one I saw awhile ago. It was on a duel costume card and harry's robe had an eyelet in the swatch. I can't remember how much it went for, but I know it was alot!

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum March 24, 2005, 03:23:48 AM
No, I think Warner Bros. might not want Artbox to use it.  They wouldn't allow permission form swatches with lettering; they may not have allowed Harry Quidditch robe swatches with distinguishing marks.   Somehow, both seem to fall in the same category -- there must be some corporate "logic" going on here.

Do you remember when we were first getting info about the update set -- Artbox initially said that the wanted poster swatches wouldn't contain any lettering.  There must have been some negotiations, because they did end up using lettering and the picture.

I really don't see what the problem is though, if they are cutting the thing up anyway ???

I saved this one to refer back to.  However, the picture is no longer there, but if you read the descritpion, you will see this is the card you are talking about.  probably didn't sell for as much as you thought, huh?

The permission slip had some writing.  Doesn't Tower or someone here have one that says PER on it?  Or are you talking about no handwritten stuff?

I agree. If they are cutting it up anyway, what's the difference?

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Sharon March 24, 2005, 03:33:26 AM
I am hoping the lack of these variants is just that there are sooooo many unopened boxes and cases.  All the good ones are still out there and in a few years time a dual costume with two house logos will go on Ebay for £9.99 bin ;D

Well a girl can dream!!!!

The permission slip had some writing.  Doesn't Tower or someone here have one that says PER on it?  Or are you talking about no handwritten stuff?

Warner Bros. allowed only a minimal amount of writing to appear on the swatches.  From what I understand, there was other writing on the form (imagine a standard permission slip your parents might have had to sign when you were in school), and that was not allowed on the swatches.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Sharon March 24, 2005, 04:03:34 AM
Warner Bros. allowed only a minimal amount of writing to appear on the swatches

Two possible reasons I can think of

1.  Warners were really lazy and didn't actually make propper props

2.  Warners are just really mean. Well they did shut down their shops :'(

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

Not necassarily.  Think about it, these swatches get cut, but a portion of them is actually under our cards.  So if this is the bottom of the badger, there is still some under the card, and then the head, would could be under someone else's card, which shows more of the border, like mine.  If that makes any sense at all.

Thats interesting ???

The bear is facing the other way in the whole patch to that on the card.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

You saw a Gryffindor patch?  when?  where?  What did it look like?  This is what we all want to see!!!!

As for the badger facing a different way, I believe it is because the swatch is put in sideways, or upside down.  Mine is as well.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

There have been quite a few examples of swatches placed incorrectly in the cards.  I have a first set Daily Prophet with an upside down swatch and I've seen costume card swatches that were a bit skewed.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

Upon release a variant such as that would have cost £90. There are highs and lows in the price guide for variants so it's worth waiting to see if you can get one lower, but there don't seem to be more than 25-30 around.

I think I have started to corner the market in these now (first set).  I got another one for Easter so I now have two gorgeous ones; one mostly yellow with a bit of red and one mostly red with a bit of yellow.  One good lottery win and the completely yellow one will be mine ;D ;D

Sorry  ::).   If its any consolation I really, really love them.  I look at them often, take them for trips around the house, keeping out of sunlight of course ;), and show them to any passing visitor, no matter how uninterested they are  ;D

I dont have anything to show for my cards. I pulled the two retails, nothing special and I bought the trousers, nothing speciel thats why I want a varient Hermione Pink Top ;)

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Sharon April 06, 2005, 01:29:28 AM
Is there a variant pink top?  I have a dirty one with a bit of stitching but they are all pretty much like this.

And before you get too sad I paid way too much money for it and will have to slave away at a rotten job as a consequence ;)

And anyway pulling two retail is amazing.  Don't forget I had two original boxes with only one costume between them and don't get me started on the update!.  I think you have the touch and are pretty lucky :)

The dirty pink sweater is a variant.  Most of them were clean.

The dirty pink tops (and ones with stitching) are the variants for that card.

And I too show everyone my dual variant, even if they don't care as well.  But i will admit, I am amazed to see how many people have no idea that they make cards like this.  They will ask me what else they make them for, and i tell them "almost every show you can think of".

Really?  Thank you, you have just made my evening ;D ;D ;D

Does make you wonder how she kept bits of it clean though ;)

But i will admit, I am amazed to see how many people have no idea that they make cards like this.

I'm afraid the people I show are just amazed people pay good money for them :(

I think she keeps it clean because she never really *rolled* in the dirt just was dragged through a tree and landed in the ground.

I think the dirt was put on her shirt as make-up from the costume department.  No, it is not make-up, just put on her shirt the way we see it. Does that make sense?

I think Hermione and Ron will end up together, but not with George or Fred.

Let's put it this way.  I did not spend much on my dual, but to my parents, it is still too much.  However, a few weeks later, one sold for 6.5 times more than what i paid. Of course, my parents wouldn't understand the deal I got. Helps when a seller doesn';t list it as a variant/

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

I really like them.  They are my favourite kids (other than the main three).  And I think they have just gotten better as the books go on.  I just hope now they have left school they don't get forgotten.

Of course if one of them started dating a bushy haired know-it-all (no names mentioned  ;)) they would still be in the books. :)

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

I just think it would be nice for Harry to be a part of their family, so it makes sense to put him with Ginny (not that I want them together). And how would poor Ron feel if She went with fred or George?

No she is an outsider and so is Harry.  Opposites only attract in the song.  In real life (and of course Harry Potter is real ;)) like goes for like.  Just you wait and see.  Harry and Luna, Ron and Lavender, Hermione and George - oops sorry ;D

No, no one is getting together. Harrys going to die in the end so he's not going to fall in love with anybody so no one gets hurt but Hermione's going to fall in love with him anyways and shes going to die in book 7 trying to save him and then Ron will die trying to do the same for her in book seven

I highly agree about the opposites attract thing ... that's exactly one of the reasons why I can't see Ron and Hermione together in the end. Whether or not that means Harry and Hermione will be together, I don't know! I've read articles online (I think mugglenet has one), but it's merely quotes from the book that regards Rons feelings toward Hermione. When we see Hermione's feelings, JKR is wise in creating a distraction by showing one with Ron and Harry (usually in the same book).

I've, seriously, read the books (POA, GOF, OOTP) with this question in mind, and it's as ambiguous as anything else! It can go either way ... it's up in the air. BUT, I get more of a vibe from Harry and Hermoine ... I just think it makes sense.

JKR set up the end of OOTP by pairing off each of her main characters ... Harry and Hermione, Ron and Luna (Luna has such a fascination with Ron throughout the whole book), and Neville and Ginny. I think anything other than that would completley blindside me, but ... I dunno.

I think I remember reading a topic about this ages ago in the Leaky Cauldron section. Since it is off-topic, we should move all the posts in that direction and discuss, discuss, discuss!!!

I'm not sure ... maybe it should, it really depends on what you consider a spoiler. For me, it's just speculation. I don't really consider that a spoiler. I'm just trying to build my argument based on my logical from the book (which could be biased).

I didn't really intend to spoil anything. In fact, I don't think I can really do that. I stronly believe that only JKR herself can  ;) In any regard, my apologies.

BTW, the thread I was talking about previously was found in the Film, Music & TV Section.

Its me belief that thats what the spoiler thread is used for speculation. Thats why I have avoided it. Its just I am too easily convinced and then worry about things so try not to think about it.

I'm just trying not to get thoughts stuck in my head because I will beleive them  ::)

No bad vibes though ;D

Here's what JKR has to say about a Hermione/Harry or a Hermione/Ron romance:

While we're at it, this is what she says about Neville/Luna:

It would be cool if we could have a spoiler and speculation thread that were separate. I'm not a fan of the spoilers, too. But, I don't mind using logic and what not.

I'm just trying not to get thoughts stuck in my head because I will beleive them  ::)

I know exactly what you mean! I'll be very upset if things don't turn out the way I am imagining them (in more ways that what I pointed out).

No bad vibes though ;D

I appreciate being so cool about it. It 'twas a mistake ... a mistake I'll never forget, nonetheless  ;)   :D

I don't think all of the big four autos have been found!  I've only seen a few map swatches from the front of the map -- those pieces of the castle have to be out there somewhere!

Hmm...have I just talked myself into buying another update box, or should I put the money toward Batman Begins! ;D

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Sharon April 08, 2005, 12:28:34 AM
Go on - talk yourself into an Update.  They are dead cheap where you are and no import duty.

Who knows you could be the proud owner of a double dual variant, Cedric and Harry.  You won't get that with Batman  ;D

Disclaimer:  You could be the proud owner of a duff box. You won't get that with Batman  ;D

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants

Batman will have a memorabilia card in every box, which could be a piece of his costume or a tire from the Batmobile.  If only update had inserts guaranteed like that!

I'd like to get a couple more update boxes, but even at $40 a box, that's a lot to spend to get a Lupin jacket and Harry's Quidditch robe.

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: Sharon April 08, 2005, 12:38:03 AM
Now I know you can get a bit of the Batmobile (no matter how small) my vote is for a box of Batman (sorry HP).

I don't actually think there can be that many Lupin jackets and Harry's Quidditch robes left can there?  Everyone seems to have loads ;D

You would probably end up with a George Quidditch (I now have 3 plain ones!)

: Re:George Weasley Quidditch Costume Variants
: kbmum April 08, 2005, 01:01:53 AM
I'm leaning toward Batman, too. :)

The George Quidditch robes were in the POA original boxes and the update retail boxes, but I just KNOW any update box I get would have an inexpensive insert, like the Lupin jacket or Harry's cardigan.

However, if the boxes came down to $30...

It's possible.  Well, prices coming down, I mean!  They used to be $65, now they're $40.  There are so many unopened boxes, I wouldn't be surprised to see them eventually sell for $30 or less.  It's happened to a lot of releases.
