Hello Y'all (as we say in the south, US that is.. :))

  There are so many interesting and informative board members here and we all seem to share something in common....very interesting usernames! How did you come up with your screen name?? What significance does it have to you?

I guess I can start with myself. I got my screen name when I was first using AOL a number of years ago and they asked for a name for some reason or another (maybe it was a log in name, I can't remember) and every single thing I thought of to use as a name was taken already! I don't know if it was a glitch in the system or what since I put down some pretty insane things and they were saying someone had taken it already. I guess it would make since in hindsite though considering how many people were using aol at the time and there wasn't much competition back then...

Anyways, in fusturation I looked around my computer, which was part of my music studio, and looked around for something new. I then focused my attention to one of the musical keyboards and saw the present sound on it was on was a sound named "sonarghost". This was one of my favorite sounds from this keyboard, was something I wouldn't forget, and was just weird enough to work!

Well there you have it! Mystery solved, case closed :P

Well, what can I say? I tried to disguise my identity but it has come out that I am really a four legged hairy animal with horns and hooves ;)

Looong story... but my name came from an old joke I had with one of my close friends from school. Something to do with being really really bored in history class while learning about German history. Anyhoo.. to cut a long story short - her email is Frederick the mountain yak and well, you can see what mine is!

10 points to whoever can identify the German related historical personalities we appropriated our screen names from! ;D

I have no idea why we chose yaks though - but it was how I met Roz who introduced me to the yakshack. Needless to say - I was hooked! A site for yaks! Hurrah! ;D

Yay! All yaks unite! My screen name simply comes from the name of my cartoon character. I have never seen anyone else using it so I think it's unique! So if you ever see a MakTheYak around on your internet travels, it's probably me :)

(and don't get any ideas about impersonating me, although goodness knows why you'd want to do that!)

My screen name comes from two sources.  The Savage part is my call sign as a U.S. Marine Corps Fighter Pilot and the 727 is my birthdate July 27th.   :)

So in Britain we should call you Savage277 :)

Mine's ever so exciting - My given name is Rosalind... it got shortened to Roz at school and ermmm now it's history  :)

I am German and i have NO IDEA about any historical personality called Ferdinand. But if you learn german history it can only be a "bayrischer Kaiser" (but i do not think Bayern is a part of germany, no one can understand the dialect)

Are you sure you learn the GERMAN history and not the "Who wants to be the King of Austria" or something ??

OK maybe i sleep in this lessons.... But i can not remember to learn ANYTHING about our history except 1880-1950. Seems the german middle ages have been too boring even for the german teachers

By the way my Screen name comes from the only cool cassis juice i drink "Tea and Fruit"

Hey T&F - Ferdinand is from Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne and was assasinated in 1914 (in Bosnia-Herzegovina) and arguably sparked off the first world war :)

I think one is Frederick the Great but I do not know or remember who Ferdinand was.  A guess is Frederick's wife?   :)

Still remember when we had to do a role play at school and I played Gavrilo - I had to try and explain my actions. Pros - got rid of unpopular heir to throne. Cons - Started WW1. In hindsight, probably a bad decision :-\

Mine is a phrase from LOTR "the choice of Lúthien"
I was trying to come up with a name for the TORN boards that was LOTR related. I thought about my favorite parts of LOTR. My favorite character is Arwen-- I'm a huge romantic and love it that she gives up her immortality for love.

The phrase is from a lovely speech of hers in the book and I just love it: ..."for mine is the choice of Lúthien, and as she so have I chosen, both the sweet and the bitter..." . So I chose it and have continued using it and on other sites as well since it seems to fit (according to friends).

To find my screenname ... I thought of something that replicated all the feeling I am getting from the HP cards. Well, I thought back to the time I was in fifth grade and loved everything to do with Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. In fact, I still love it so I thought something to do with it would suit me perfectly.

I cheated Mcgonagall is my favorite Hp character as well as hagrid so i tried and got mcgonagall

Mine comes from the fact that I drank so much Mountain Dew to get enough points to score an XBrick in the Dew U promotion, that I think I gave myself gall stones and ulcers.  Seriously.  I had to go in for ultrasounds, an upper GI endosocpic exam, and the dreaded colonoscopy to find out what was wrong with me.  It could have all been coincidental that I got sick during the time when I was drinking way more Dew than any 5 humans should, but I'm sure it didn't help.

I'm ok now though.

And I can finally play video games in my own home!  Having a camera shoved up your butt is a small price to pay to be able to play Metroid Prime!

Cool story DewDude!!   8)  I have been through the same kind of tests as well but I was out cold during the procedures so I felt no pain at all!   :)

The reason you get XBrick is that our main man MakTheYak is no fan of Microsoft and has code written into this site to change that name automatically to what you see!!  Pretty clever don't you agree?   ;)

Anyway, good story! I'm interested, however, how you play Metroid Prime on an X Box...?? I'm sure Nintendo isn't that happy about it!

Well since my screen name is Anna, and that is my name, it means that I'm not as creative as most you!! :)

Oh, I left that part of the story out.  I never really wanted to keep the X box because it didn't have the games I wanted to play.  So I had a devious plan.  Once I got the X box, I brought it to Wal Mart and said it was an unwanted gift and I wanted to return it.  They gave me store credit and I bought the limited edition Metroid Prime package GameCube, a wireless game controller, and another game for the same price.  :o

I love it when a plan comes together.

I spent the summer drinking A&W Root Beer because there were codes in the cases to win eBay Points (and because I like that soda).  Drank a lot of root beer, didn't win one point!  

I'm in the I.T. industry.  We are contractually obligated to drink it.   :P

Seriously, you should see how much Mountain Dew the pop machine in the break room goes through.  There used to be only 3 buttons for Dew and it would always be empty by Friday so they added a 4th button.  I think it's the only thing that keeps us I.T. workers going.

It's not something we get in the UK although for a brief time I remember it being available when I was at school for about a summer or so. It's a bit like sprite? It's not available any more though :(

Unfourtunately, it's nothing like Sprite!  I can't really describe the taste (I don't like it, so I haven't had it in quite a while), but it's a neon yellow green in color.  People drink it because I think it has more caffeine in 8 ounces than does a cup of coffee. :o

Aha, I see - that's why it's loved in the IT industry over there (here coffee is a BIG thing for IT bods... not that I am saying programming can be boring mind ;)  :o ;))

It's true, it's coffee all the way here, although I don't like it myself. I guess I'm not a REAL computer person... I have heard the tales that MD is the preferred carbonated beverage of IT bods and various other segments of the 'geek' culture. If it's anything like Red Bull I probably wouldn't like that either... I'll stick with a nice cup of Hot Chocolate, thanks :)

I picked "Eve Harrington" because "Eve" is one of my all-time favorite film characters. It's from the movie 'ALL ABOUT EVE".

I used to be Morrisap because I am April Morris (so un-original)  It is my user name at work and the only way I can remember all my names and passwords....... well as you see, I keep them all the same.
But recently I learned how to add a picture to my profile and decided to change my name.  
I have always been a HUGE fan of anything King Arthur.  I guess since I was 16 (now 26).  So, Avalon has always been a cool name to me.
There you have it. (Imagine my excitement when the new movie just came out!!)

Here I am called Sketchqueen because sketch cards are my passion and I am often referred to as the Queen of my household (being the only female among 2 sons, 1 husband and 4 male cats!)

so sketchqueen it became :) It's also what I use on Yahoo groups so that makes it easy too.

My "proper" screen name is General Ka Dargo after my favourite character in Farscape but Geek Boy came about during last years Memorabilia Show in the UK.  Somebody (who shall remain nameless to protect his identity) asked me a Star Wars question (I'm a huge fan) and rounded off the sentence with "Geek Boy" which I thought was kinda funny so I went with it  ;D

i picked mine because a TT saruman auto card was the first LOTR auto card i ever pulled and since then i've been hooked but what about you?

I picked mine because its my ebay name lol. No I've had it a while, well my names Dawn, so Morning and Angels are cool and msn still wheren't happy so I had to bung Iola on the end, which by the way is the name of a charator in a screenplay of mine ;D

erevine has been with me since my early computing days. it is close to the old scottish spelling of the family name. my dads traced the roots of the family back to the early 1700's in the U.S. settling on a land grant from the King of England in Virginia. enough of the history lession. just happy to be on the shack with such a wonderful group of people...........................................................dave

I believe it to be the Irvine Clan, they have a castle in Scotland called the castle Drum which can be looked up on google. Not been able to find a shipboard manifest of the voyage over though. Although the spelling of the ancestors name when they settle in Virginia which is now Pocohoanas County in West Virginia was Irvine which was eventuallly change to Ervin thru the years.

Cool story!   :)  What Scottish Clan do belong to?  My wife and I are Scottish as well.  My Clan is Wallace and hers is MacLachlan.   :)

My screen name comes from my favorite show Stargate SG1 and since Thor is my favorite Asgard on the show, I chose him for my screen name plus it doesn't hurt that Michael Shanks does his voice  ;D

Jeez and there was me thinking Thor was the Norse god of thunder! Silly me :p

If you ever saw Stargate, then you will see that the characters are named after the Gods of Egypt and Greece so in a way you are right   ;)
