I really like the US ones - it's definitely the best yet - I like the UK adult one but I'm not sure about the standard one  :-\

I wonder if the adult cover means that Harry will be taking Snape's advanced potions class?  After all, what fun would it be if Harry and Snape didn't have to deal with each other on a regular basis? ;D

I was thinking the adult cover was more of the giveaway (like kbmum).

I can't wait to find out why Dumbledore and Harry are caught up in a spell of fire.  Heck, I can't wait for the whole book!

Oh the adult cover does make me wonder....is it a clue to tell us that Snape is the HBP or is it just telling us that Harry will be taking Advanced Potion Making? hmmmmmmmm

No I just thought it means Harrys doing NEWT potions. I'm sure Snape is a pureblood he was in Slytherin and ok Riddle wasn't a pureblood he was Slytherin's heir. Ok the hat thought about putting Harry in there but did it really or was it just questioning him because he didn't want to be there and anyway Harry Blood is more pure than Moldys. (breaths)

Who are we actually seeing on the books? Dumbledore, my moneys on him.

Well, I haven't posted in quite a while, but the excitement of this unveiling has brought me out of merely catching up on past and current post readings!

I'm not sure what to comment on Legolas, the house elf, but I really like how the covers turned out for both British and American. However, I tend to like the painted look of the American editions ... but I guess I'm a little biased.

The U.K. adult cover, I would agree gives away that Harry passes his O.W.L.'s for Advanced Potions ... that tension is something the book needs. I'm sure that he'll pass the other O.W.L's that help him toward being an Auror, as Roz said ... It only makes sense!

The more I look at the US cover, the less I think it's a pensieve.  It doesn't really fit the description of the one in GOF.

How does it differ? Looks like a stone bowl with swirly stuff.

Well, the pensieve was described as a shallow stone basin with runes and symbols around it, and it gave off a silvery light.  It was stored in a cabinet.  The item on the cover looks like the top of a cracked pillar (no, not Storge! :D ) and the light looks gold to me.

Here's the description taken from GOF: The Pensieve Chapter (page 583 of the American Edition):

"A shallow stone basin lay there, with odd carvings around the edge: runes and symbols that Harry did not recognize. The silvery light was coming from the basin's contents, which were like nothing Harry had ever seen before. He could not tell whether the substance was liquid or gass. It was a bright , whitish sliver, and it was moving ceaselessly ...

He wanted to touch it, to find out what it felt like, but nearly four years' experience of the magical world told him that sticking his hand into a bowl full o some unknown substance was a very stupid thing ..."

Upon quick expection, I guess it's describes as a basin/bowl ...

I dunno you can't really tell whats round the edge of it and its hard to well what colour the light is as its all a bit green.

Is it me or do the two Harry's look vastly different ages.

I hate to say this, but it seems to me that on the US version Harry doesn't look old enough ...  he's supposed to be sixteen after all and he doesn't look anywhere near that to my eyes.

The impression I had of the pensieve from the books was of something much smaller than how they have depicted it ... no idea why either. *shrugs*

While I am less than enchanted by the covers (I will of course be getting the children's version ;)) the release of the covers really reinforces the fact that this book is going to be released soon! I can't wait! ;D

I don't know if I like the cover..... it looks too much like Order of Phoenix. Still I can't wait till the 16th of July.... when does it come out in the UK?

I totally agree, in the US version harry looks so young. Personally I like the other version better, the fire around harry and dumbledore looks cool......

mmm... i dont know. I kinda like the way the US cover looks. Harry looks of age to me on it. I just don't like how they made it too much like OoP. The Uk cover doesn't look like Daniel at all or nothing like the Harry I picture.

I'm not really sure if the age is fitting to Harry or not. I look at the picture and that's not the first thing that come to mind, really.

The blue tint from the U.S. OoP cover, after reading the book, makes sense ... Harry's dreams (if that's what JKR calls them ... I haven't ready OoP in quite a long time)! Hopefully, after reading HBP, this cover will make sense just the same.

What intrigues me is that both artists, knowingly or unknowingly, chose to incorporate features from the OoP cover. The U.S. tinting is one color, blue and green. The U.K. standard the usage of fire. I doubt there's a connection at all ... prolly just a coincidence!

And in the UK release cover, are those things in Harry and Dumbledore's hands their wands? I dunno, they look too short to be wands...

On mugglenet you can download a countdown timer for the HBP - is relentlessly (but still ever too slowly!) counting down on my desktop as we speak ;)

I downloaded the time turner they had at warner bros. and that shrunken head drove me bonkers! I'll just wait for the month and count down then..... btw, no one ever answered my question...... when does it come out in the UK?

As far as I know its a simultaneous worldwide (world being UK, Australia, NZ, South Africa, Canada and the US) release on midnight July 16 (as per OotP). You guys in the UK would def be one of the first to get it!
