I am sooo glad that Cate Blanchett won, now all I need is for Johnny Depp to win best actor and I will be a happy person  ;D

I am so glad that the Aviator has done so well - and that Cate finally got her long deserved Oscar ;D ;D ;D How the HELL did Gwyneth Paltrow beat her in 1998 - Cate was loads better :P

Fingers crossed for Johnny now! :)

I have no idea, it is a shame really but at least now she has been recognised  :D

D'you know when the big awrds will be announced? I know its at the end of the program, but what time will that be? And is it being broadcast tonight at all on free to air TV in Aus?

I am disappointed that Finding Neverland didnt get best picture, it was the BEST movie I have seen in a long time.....well I will have to see million dollar baby now and see what all this hype is about  ;)

Well apart from Cate winning I was a bit disappointed with that  :(

What's this Million Dollar Baby thing? I haven't seen it and I've heard absolutely nothing about it. Was it good?

Clint Eastwood directed Million Dollar Baby and it is a story about a female boxer and what happens to her.  Hillary Swank plays the boxer and she won Best Actress for her performance.  Morgan Freeman won Best Supporting Actor for his role as a retired boxer who helps her.  The movie won Best Picture and Best Director as well so to answer you question Mark - yes it is good!   :)

I am yet to see it either Mark.........I dont get what the hype is all about, I have heard both good and bad reviews.......I think I may have to see it for myself to know if it is really good or not  ::)

Looks like we will have to.. but I don't think we will like it as much (well, Trey and I anyway!) than if it wasn't competing against 'Finding Neverland'!

I've never even heard of this Million dollar baby.

And why does Harry never get anywhere? Too many Brits in it for them? Do they not like that?

Voting for who gets Academy Awards has nothing to due with if there are too many Brits in a picture!  There are many Brit Actors and Pictures that have won Oscars.  Have you ever seen "Chariots of Fire" or "Bridge on the River Kwai" to name just two?  You have to understand who gets to vote for the awards - Film Directors, Actors, Film Critics, and for the technical side of motion picture making it is the technical folks themselves.  For the most part Harry Potter movies do not compare in the minds of the voters to what they see as dramatic motion pictures.  The Lord of the Rings movies have started to change people's minds who do the voting and that is a start.

It is all very artsy and its not what gets 'bums on seats'. I do think it was telling with the BAFTAs (UK awards) that when the papers and stuff where listing who won what they missed out the Orange film of the year (POA) which was actually voted for by the people that go to see films.

That's true!! But to be fair the Oscars do get us to watch some films we might have missed out on otherwise - masterpieces that have slipped by us un-noticed.

I can't remember which award it was - was it Empire?? The most respected film magazine here in the UK awarded Andy Serkis their best actor award last year - (no not pandering to Sean Penn who's OK but he hadn't had the amazing year and given the amazing performances that Serkis  had;))

I think Andy Serkis nearly died of joy and pride... and I think he might well have broken down :)

I don't know whether any of you watched the ceremony, but Chris Rock went out to the dtreets of Hollywood to ask the everyda person about the movies. None of the people he spoke to had actually seen any of the movies nominated for best picture!

Thats pretty unfair....I thought that there was an actor (who I presumed to be Serkis) that dressed up in a full-body white suit and actually acted as gollum, then the techo's imposed gollum (via computer) on top of this person, using their movements to create gollum........I thought this was serkis...am I incorrect?

If it was him then he was jibbed of being nominated cause I would class that as acting, especially teamed up with the voicing for gollum as well.
