: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: emmafan February 24, 2005, 02:22:53 PM
I was wondering what you guys thought of all the HP games out there?
I own a PS2 and a gamecube, but have only really picked up HP Quidditch world cup.  Although I really enjoyed this game, I have heard very mixed reviews from the others, and as a result have not tried them yet.  Many of these games have been out for a few years now, so I suppose the 20$ price tag isn't toooo much of a risk.  What do you guys think?  Are they fun, managable, difficult, for all ages, and do they actually follow the plots of the novels?   PHEW....
Thanks for your input everyone!

Aaron

<edited by Roz because not mentioning in the title what games these are in the games forum is not a good idea. As you know this forum is not just about Harry Potter, it's about Mark's cartoons, gaming in general, films in general, Harry Potter, LOTR and the card collecting hobby. So people need to know what you are talking about before they enter the thread. - Cheers. Roz>

I own a PS2 and have the Quidditch World Cup, and the SS and CoS and PoA games.  The load time in CoS is very long, but I love all the games.  Some are harder than others and I was disspointed at the end of PoA since you do not actually do the back in time part, but it was still fun.  If you are a fan of HP, you would enjoy roaming Hogwarts and flying on the broom.  I think it was CoS with a lot of mini  game extras you could do which were fun.  If you are not an HP fan, you probably would not fun them as enjoyable as I did.  Try going to a game store, as you cuold probably buy these used for less than $20.

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Morningangel-Iola February 25, 2005, 06:14:30 AM
I like them, but some poeple think they are too easy. That's fine by me they are the only ones I have ever managed to finish. I really liked POA the graphic for the PS2 were great and it was better playing as all three kids. I was annoyed at first that it didn't come out in PSone format and its the reason I was forced to buy a PS2 but it was well worth it. As you can see on the other thread I am currently playing Philosoper stone next gen on the PS2 its good but not as good as POA. There's far too mych creaping past prefects and they still spot you with your invisiblity cloak on, how does that work ???

As for quidditch I'm not much of a fan, am not very good at broom flying so have avoided the world cup.

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Anna February 25, 2005, 07:20:04 AM
I've only played the PC versions of the HP games, except the Quidditch one.  I liked all three of them, but I had heard is that the PC version is totally different from PS2, GameCube, etc, so I guess this really doesn't help you at all.  Sorry!

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 February 26, 2005, 02:24:28 AM
The SS does have too much sneaking by Prefects, but the other two are not like that.  However, SS was very good.  As for Quidditch, I think it is easier to play in Quidditch World Cup than it is in the other games.

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly February 26, 2005, 02:35:17 AM
I have a Gamecube and GBA. I have the COS and POA on GBA and all four games on Gamecude. I liked SS on the Gamecube alot more then the other two and was disappointed with POA. Mostly becauuse it was so short and they add and cut some things like Sirius in the dongun and Malfoy using a Polyjucie potion *Oops, sorry might not want to post that. Yell at me if must :(* but everything was good besides that. I liked the Quidditch World Cup because you could finally play Quidditch without have in to go throught 50% of another game just to play a short game of the sport. And you could finally play as international and other Hogwarts teams.

I didn't trust 'Ron' when he said to follow him but I didn't have much choice.

I must admit that I have nevr finished my psone Cos I kept getting killed by the spider and didn't fancy trying again  :-[

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 February 26, 2005, 03:10:10 AM
I agree.  POA left way to much out.  I was so looking forward to the going back in time part and doing things all over again from a different angle, but instead, it jumped right to the end and the game was over.  I did enjoy playing all three characters though.  Looking forward to GoF for the PS2 to come out.

I thought having the Draco punch or the slap like in the book would have been cool. And going back in time and doing everything would have been cool too.

: Re:What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Morningangel-Iola March 04, 2005, 07:50:55 PM
The games are funny as they are neither the book or th film a bit of both really. Although finding out the true annoyingness of peeves is erm interesting  ::)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Another thing that I didnt like about POA was we never got to actually play in the Shrieking Shack or in Hogsmeade. The only thing I saw of Hogsmeade was the cut scene wherre Harry, Ron, and Hermione where slidding down that slop and into the town. I was hoping I'd see what the inside of the Shack would look like but, all I saw was the outside and it wasnt as tall or anything. Just stood there looking...old. They didnt even wear Muggle clothing which was really a big step for the movie and should have stood out in the game. It would have been nice to sneak around Hogwarts trying to dodge areselves while trying to make it to Buckbeak. You only really saw areselves was when we tryed to save are past selves from the Dementors, and that was the only fun part when back in time. The games ended when Sirius flew off *I think, playing them over and just got done with COS and lent POA out so I havent got to it yet so my mistake* so you didnt see Harry get his broom another key scene. The switch between charater was a great add on but the only difference was that they had seperate spells but basiclly ran around doing the same thing so it got kind of boaring after a while. The Malfoy part still bugs me because how could malfy find all these ingretents and do a months worth of brewing in a few hours in just one night. Kind of ruined the Magic a little. They ran off the movie/book path alittle which kind of made it kind of boring and go by to fast. You had to do things that didnt even have anything to do with the movie/book but yet you had to sit there for 45 minutes to get to the next level anyways. I put it down several times durring the day trying to get back in the fun of it when I kept doing everything over. I really enjoyed the side challenges like after Malfoy dumped me into hole and we had to find a why out, that was very fun becuase you had to use everyone to do it. Dont even get me started on Quidditch. I cant believe they toke that out. I thought flying threw the sky, lightning and thundering all around, dodging in and out of Dementors way to get back to the pitch and find the snitch would have been very fun and I'm sure if everyone else enjoyed it the sale would have rocketed. It was an ok game but I finished it in a day so I hope GOF is better.

THE FIRST BIT OF THE GAME WAS GOOD ::)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly May 28, 2005, 12:44:23 PM
Yeah, the train ride was ok, but then it went down from there. I did like how they introduce Malfoy and his goons and the Monster Book of Monsters along with the creepy Dementors

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Morningangel-Iola May 29, 2005, 02:27:45 AM
I didn't like the Malfoy polyjucie bit I knew it was fishy but you didn't have my option but to follow him. Personally I'm glad there was no Quidditch (they had a whole sperate game of it) because I am useless and it takes hours. I was bad enough on Buckbeak  ::) Although they did cut a lot of the bits from the film. But the thing with the games is that they try and be the book and the film and sometimes its not easy. I am glad peeves got in there though although I hate coming across him :(

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Sharon July 11, 2005, 01:16:41 AM
Ok I am admitting complete and total defeat  :(

Can someone who has the PC version of the Philosophers Stone please hep me finish the game.  I can get to the bit where I have defeated Quirrell.  I am with Voldemort in a chamber, with the mirror of Erised in the middle.  I knock down all the pillars onto Voldemort and this reduces his life by about half.  I run to the mirror to start firing at Voldy and ..... I die.  Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly but always brown bread.

This has taken a lot of courage to admit I can't finish the game, bearing in mind this is for ages 3 years and up and I am a little bit older than this  ::)  So please help a sad, old HP game player  ;D

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Anna July 11, 2005, 01:45:37 AM
Sharon, after knocking all the pillars onto Voldemort, you need to cast at the Mirror of Erised.  When you do, the mirror wil pivot around.  You need to keep the mirror between you and Vodemort.  One side of the mirror will reflect what he casts at you back at him.  The other side of the mirror allows his casting to penetrate the mirror and zap you.  I can't remember which side is which though. :-[  Sometimes he will cast at you and it goes around the mirror and follows you.  You need to outrun this one.  After avoiding it, position yourself with the mirror between you and him again.  The idea is to make him zap himself using the mirror.  I hope this helps.  It took me quite a few times until I figured it out. :P

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Sharon July 11, 2005, 01:54:49 AM
Yes that helps lots.  Thank you  ;D  I knew the mirror span round but I didn't realise he could zap himself.  Well back to the pit!  ;)

Hooray.  He who shall not be named is squished  ;D  Only took two years and lots of help from the US of A

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Yes and how disappointing was that     Thank goodness the games improved.  Roll on GOF  ;D

Theres still the First Task where Harry rides he's Firebolt ;D

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: darthmactor October 30, 2005, 01:34:31 AM
I don't know; the main game play for the GoF game looks really good, as do the graphics, but I'm not sure about the first two tasks portion of the game, as both are going to be on a "rail system" where you always go a set path, and just have to watch out for enemies or obsticales in that set path. But I'll still play it. :D

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly October 30, 2005, 02:46:55 AM
Even thought I've gotten use to the free roaming style of Spider-Man (I just cant stop playing it ) I love set path games. In Spider-Man it takes me forever to find the store to Upgrade my fighting style that it takes me hours sometimes to be able to finish a simple task of finding a store ::).

I'm really excited about, but no just about doing the task. I cant wait to play the QWC scene because its looks very action packed. All three of them shooting off spells, banishing enemy's. I cant wait to play the Task because they, as well, are suppose to be action packed. My favortie task is the Second Task (I love the water and mermaids 0:) ) that from the gameplay clips I've seen its going to a really great video experience. I'm looking forward to the Third Task as well. I think its going to be a great part of the game because of Voldemorts return and EA is keeping it very underwraps, not releasing pictures or video of it. Cant wait for the 8th 8)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 02, 2005, 02:00:42 AM
I am getting really excited about the GoF video game.  The only thing I really hope is that is has features like in CoS (I think) with many mini games.  After I finished the game, I took my broom and looked around for the gnome tossing contests, flying contests, etc.  I missed that in PoA.

So how many people are buying this the day it is released?  I know Mike and I are.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly November 02, 2005, 02:49:47 AM
Thats pretty bad that I dont have to say anything for people to know I'm getting it the day of release

I also want mini games but you could say that returning to a level is kind of like a mine game. I read somewhere that at the Quidditch World cup there two paths you can chose, both have shield you need to collect (you have to collect all the shield to unlock the Voldemeort Level) and one path you can only go down if you've pass Herbology and learned that spell and the other is the only path you can go down at the moment ;D Very cool. The site has been updated as well

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 02, 2005, 02:55:16 AM
Well Mike, I know you like these games as much as me....so I would have fallen off my chair if you told me you weren't going to get it.  I will be stopping on my way home from work next week to pick it up....or at lunch......

I also here you can have cooperative play with two players in this game.  I did that for the game Obscure and it was great.  It was not split screen either, but the screen seemed to follow player 1.  If player 2 ran off the screen, oh well....but it was loads of fun! I hope this one is like that too.  And I hope it is a long game.

We just came from Wal-Mart and saw the poster/banner at the front entrance!!!  My 5 year old went ballistic!!!

We will for sure be getting it on release day!!!

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly November 02, 2005, 03:02:16 AM
I like the new addition of multiplay. The only oher multiplayer HP games was POA. Monica will be Harry, and I of course Hermione

There should be a few good levels where mutiplayer can take place. You still have to go to class for spells and the trio go together so...

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Mike, you may be half my age, but we have so much in common!!!!  I will be Harry, and my husband will be Hermione!!!  Isn't that funny?

According to Toys R Us, Gamestop and ebgames websites, it is still the 8th.  Most game and movie releases happen on a Tuesday.  It could be that your store is not planning on putting them out until Friday the 11th :-\

I hope the date hasn't changed.

If they could sell it before I am sure they would. But the catalogue (where our products are) and the posters all say the 11th  :-\

Maybe you guys get it first :(

The only date that I've seen for the Goblet of Fire game was at our local Wal-mart. They have signs on the security things that say November 10th and signs back where the games are that says the same date. I'm not hunting for the game, but Wendi shall be buying it. I would be frustrated if I wanted to get it before the movie came out. It doesn't look like there's a clear release date anywhere ???

I definitely will be looking for this game for Playstation 2, I have all the others but this one and Prisoner of Azkaban look the best. The Playstation 2 games this year are hurting my pocket as much as the cards I collect are  :( Their are just to many great games coming out this year and Goblet of Fire is just one of them  :o

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Well at least I don't have to buy the console this year like I had to last year ::) Mind you I have never regretted getting my PS2 it is so much better than my PSone. I'm just glad our place is going to be selling them and I can get my staff discount :P

I dont usually like movie conversion games (apart form the LOTR TTT game that was awesome  ;D) but I was given the chance to pick up a brand new, sealed copy of harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for $15AU so I bought it. Its actually rather good and Im really enjoying it so far. Im one of those people who has to collect absolutely every little thing in the game otherwise I dont consider the game completed so Im having a heck of a time finding all the chocolate frog wizard cards. And for the price Im definetely not complaining. Loads of fun and I might be looking at picking up GOF as well now.  ::)  :P

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

I am angry!  I was all excited to get this game tomorrow, especially since I got a $5 off coupon for a PS2 game at Target.  Thing is, Target has this coming out on the 10th, where gamestop, ebgames, and places like that have it tomorrow.  So do I wait until Thursday to save the $5 or just buy it tomorrow?  I am so confused.  How could all these places get it one date, and others on another date?  At this point, I might as well wait for the weekend to go get it.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly November 08, 2005, 03:54:39 AM
I couldnt possible wait for the weekend to get it since I've been waiting two months ::)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 08, 2005, 03:58:43 AM
That's my problem...but with all my TV shows (see the Threshold thread), I don't know whenI will have time to play until the weekend, but if I had it, I would find the time.  So the question is, to save $5 or not?

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly November 08, 2005, 04:00:50 AM
At EBgame you can pay for it now and then just pick it up or put 10 20 or 30 dollars on it and pay the rest when you go get it. I put 10 on it

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

I know I can do that, but there are to gamestops walking distance to my house (I live walking distance to an entire mall shopping area...not that I would walk though), so I could stop by on the way home.  Thing is, I have a Target coupon for $5 off any game for the PS2 and Gamecube priced $30 or more....so do I want to pay $35 or $40 for tha game.....They better get it tomorrow too!!!

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

The game is 39.95 BTW I personally dont think 5 dollars makes a difference for anything over 30 dollars, thats why I shop at a game store :)

Personally, I would just wait. Although you won't get it on the day it comes out, you'll be saving $5. Let's think about what you can buy for that $5 ... maybe two gallons of gas (depends where you live), five cups of coffee at Dunkin Donuts, $5 off your next card purchase ... the possibilities are endless.

I guess it just comes down to which you want more, the game (a day or so ahead of schedule) or $5 ;) Please let us know which you pick.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Mike, $5 is a big deal when you have bills to pay and a car to feed   Yes, gas here is luckily only $2.09 per gallon, so $5 could go a long way

Oh, but then I think about it, and think, yeah Mike, $5 is not that much, so I should just buy it!!  I think I will leave this one up to my husband.

Well, if I can't wait, I can use the coupon towards Resident Evil 4 for my husband.......but Zero, I agree, it won't hurt to wait.  Besides, this Friday is a pay day!

I will post when I get it!  Hopefully Target will have it tomorrow anyway :o=

This is fantastic (I know someone at my games shop ;)) - I love the voiceover's - the narrator is Stephen Fry (who also does the UK tapes and CDs for JK Rowling) - and it's so much fun - besides, you can play most of it with 2 players which is great (apart from the fact that one of our controllers broke) - anyway - we have been dropping leviosa rocks on top of each other's heads - and Dan sniggers "sorry Ron, didn't mean to do that"

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: EmmasOneandOnly November 11, 2005, 10:53:07 AM
Ok, you guys are going to think I'm crazy but I've actually beat the game  Now before you start thinking "How did he collect all 38 Triwizard Shields, jinx all 5 dragon statues, collects all 10 pods(I don't actually know what they are), and the school box(don't know what this is ether) in all the levels. How did he get enough Bertie Beans to buy all 6 card sets for all three characters. And how did he do this all in 6 hours." I haven't collected everything and I haven't updated my cards so I don't know if I have bought them all. Besides, you have to collect Triwizard Shields to open new cards and decks ;)

It was a great game, terrific actually. Its one of those games you cant put down. The best Harry Potter game EVER. I don't know about you but I knew it was going to be a great game after level 1, the Quidditch World Cup. The controls take a little getting use to because even thought Harry, Ron, and Hermione are running. They are still going a little slow. The spells and jinx's are upgrades by cards. I so far have bought all the cards, with my beans, from 2 decks for all three character and some from the 3 deck. Like I said, you have to unlock cards to buy them. My favorite card is to make you shot out 2, 3, and even 4 (of the same spells) at once that do much more damage then just one spell. A few jinx's are Carpe Retractum, Wingadium Leviosa, and Aqua Eructo. A few spells are Avifors, Accio, and a standard damaging spell.

The task are great, I played my favorite, the second task, about 10 times, the first task about 5 and the third about 15 ;D I was really impressed with the Third Task because I haven't seen any picture prior to the game release and I was little sketch about how it would look and feel but it was pretty good. Its rushed like POA alot. No really long cut scenes telling you the story, the cut scenes are actually like little comics. There are in game cut scenes with graphics but nothing special. You only see Viktor once, Fleur none, Cedric 3 time, and Cho none. I was hoping they'd have a yule ball game where you go around trying to find Cho or something but that wasn't true to the movie or book so I can see why they didn't put that in there.

There was no glitches, the normal foot slipping through the wall but thats expected :P Over all 5 stars from me 8)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 11, 2005, 08:38:09 PM
Mike, help me out here.  Are all the things you collect on the Hogwarts exterior and Forbidden forest level, or are there more?  I have not done the first task yet, as i will not until I collect everything from those levels.  However, I have some negatives about this game, and unlike Mike, was not thrilled after the first level.

First, the game is pretty easy.  Normally, I am used to having to pick which spell goes with which button to use, and then think before I use it to know I am using the right one.  In this one, all I do is hit the square button, and whatever I am near, the correct spell will be used.  A little unchallanging.  Also, the major thing missing from this game, the one thing I was looking forward to more than anything, is the free roam of Hogwarts.  This game is more missioned based and you pick your level and get put right in the level.  All three prior games, you could run around the school searching for clues, buying stuff from Fred and George and just checking out the views.  Not in this one, at least not yet anyway.

Mike, does that change?  I guess I will give it a shot, but for you to beat it in 6 hours, and do all three tasks 5 or more times, tells me this game was made way to easy.

Oh, and my Husband is playing the game with me, and in two player mode, you can not change your camera angles at all.  I can't turn the screen, and if one person runs to far away, it just sort of stops, and if something is coming to get you, it just pops on the screen and attacks, but you never saw it coming.  In one player mode, can you change the camera angles?

I guess I need to give this game some more time and work on the challenges to see how I feel about it. I also need to run through to collect all the stuff I missed in the exterior and forest.  But, if I have to give my opinion, I would say they should have stuck with the old format.  Part of the fun was being able to run around and explore Hogwarts on your own, to make you feel like you are really a part of the school.

And how can you not see Fleur?  She is part of the tournament.  Isn't that what this game is about?

Sorry if I sound so negative, I was just pretty disspointed last night with the way they did it.  But again, maybe it gets better.  I have to say, for the PS2, CoS came out first, then SS, the PoA and now this, and so far, I like them in that order because CoS was the hardest, and they just seemed to get easier with each one, as if the people playing them were getting younger instead of older.  Again, that order may change when I beat this game.  Stay tuned to see how I feel about it once I get all the way through it ;)

Yeah I think the voice overs are great.

I realised 2 might be able to play when it said players should press (some button or other) to cast ;D

Very cool ;D

If you have both controlers in, before each level, it lets player 1 and 2 pick who they want to play as.  During the level, you can change to a different character if you want.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Clearly Jackie's kids and me never read the box - just head straight to the PS2 ;) We've ordered a new controller and it's been dispatched today ;D fab!

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

So Roz, do you like the way this game plays better than the other three?  I think when I get through this one, I may bneed to run through CoS again.....

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: Roz November 11, 2005, 09:43:29 PM
So far, yes I definitely do, although I don't remember much of PoA :( selective memory? Perhaps

But we didn't get too far into the game and once we discovered a failing button on one of the controller we went straight to ebay for a nice new one :) it's amazing how it can be quicker to buy from ebay than get the time to go to the shops isn't it?? :o

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 11, 2005, 09:55:13 PM
well, I guess I am not giving this game a fair shot since it was not what I expected it to be.  I guess I have to forget about all the past games and play this as an entirely different experience.

Roz, did you do one player or two player or both?  If both, is the camera movement and angles better in one player mode?

We did not get far either.  We did DADA, Forbidden Forest and Hogwarts Exterior (although we are going back to those tonight to collect everything we missed to make the gameplay longer).  Then, I am going to do Moody's challenges before moving on to the First Task.  I need to extend this game for myself as long as possible, because if I beat it in 6 hours like Mike, I will upset I spent the money on it....although, it is a game I must have in my collection.

It was like Resident Evil Dead Aim.  Boy am I glad we rented it.  Ryan beat it in 3 hours, went back to play through it again and beat it in 2 hours!!!!  I would have been mad spening $50 on a game like that.  But we do play to get RE4 after I beat Harry Potter....

I just talked to my husband and he said I need to give the game more of chance.  If they kept it like the others in the series, they would get bashed for being to repititive and needed to make some changes. As soon as I get over not having free roam, I think I will be okay.

One more question for those of you who played it though.... On PS2, you hit circle to do the power spells.  Well, can all players do them?  I have been playing as Harry and when I hit circle, nothing happens (this is for the spell that has that power bar to fillup on the screen).  Maybe I need to read the book.....

Sadly you don't get to free roam around Hogwarts like before but the levels are really big and there are 38 Triwizard Shields to collect it each level. (You don't have to collect all 38 to progress BTW.) I don't know how many you have in the Hogwarts Exterior level but there are two ways you can go, down the stairs and across the bridge, I went bridge first and went back and toke stairs. Hogwarts Exterior, Forbidden Forest, Herbology, Prefect Bathroom and the First and Second task give you Triwizard Shields. You score Bronze, Silver and Gold for the task and you have to get all three from the task to movie on. You don't look for them, the higher your score is, the more sheilds you get.

You only see Fleurs picture when it pops out of the Goblet of Fire...thats about it. You do here her screaming thought in the Maze.

I'm really not mad about completing the game in 6 hours because I got up to use the bathroom once so if you expand it out I'm sure it will be longer. All I did was go to level after level and when I completed the game shut off the GC for a breather. I'll go back because I want to buy all the cards for all the character, try and find everything, complete all of Moody's challenges, etc.

I think it is a great game, I don't look at it as wasting 40 dollars because I finished it in one night when I haven't got everything and I haven't tried multi-player yet.

There was a few things I didn't like about the game but I have some problems with everything. I think EA need to improve it just a little more.

GOF needed more levels, extended gameplay. It was short like POA, They made it sound as if this was going to be the next Grand Theft Auto or something.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?
: rns91294 November 12, 2005, 01:29:16 AM
Thanks Mike.  Most movie games are fairly short because they need to follow the movie.

So you haven't done Moody's challenges yet either?  See, I am one of those people who need to complete everything in full before beating a game, so it must take me more than 6 hours if I am going to try and find everything first.

Are there 38 shields altogether, or 38 in each level?  And why is it that as Harry, when I hit the circle (yours will be different on GC) to do my power spell, nothing happens?  Can only Ron do these?

The cards you collect are nice since they are scenes from the movie though.  So with the different gameplay, you still liked this one the best of all 4? Now that I am over the initial shock of it being different, I am willing to give it a shot.

You say the levels are big?  I stayed upstairs in the Exterior, and went through it in like 2 minutes.  Please tell me is is a LOT bigger than that......

Thanks Mike!

I usually do the little mini-game type stuff after :D You earn beans so that will help with my cards 8)

38 in each level but I think that counts Mini-Shields too. Is Ciricle the PS2 Action button?

I still think this is the best one because I agree that equipping spells during gameplay does take away from the action. I didn't even press the start button at all 8)

You say the levels are big? I stayed upstairs in the Exterior, and went through it in like 2 minutes. Please tell me is is a LOT bigger than that.......
I didn't mean it would take you three hours to get past one level. There are curtain ways to go in a level. Some are locked until you find more Triwizard Shield, then they are unlocked and you can go in and get those Triwizard Shields. So it should take you some time if you do one level at a time.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

38 in each level?  How many are there total?  Not sure if circle is the action button.  X does my shooting jinx, triangle does my accio, square does my special spells (levitate, freeze (to put out fire).. etc).  Circle is the one that is on the left side of your screen with the power bar that fills up.  That is the one I can not figure out how to use.....

Thanks for the tips.  I even plan to do the challenges now rather than later.....I need to make the experience last.  I am still having a hard time getting over the fact that I can not jump on my broom and fly around Hogwarts grounds, so I may need to pop in another game after this one to get that fix...... I guess that was the one main thing I was looking forward to and it is not there.  I was hoping it would be more of an open 3D world.

As for the camera angles.  Since I have not tried one player yet (my husband doesn't seem to want to let me ;)), I only get one camera angle that i can not turn and move.  I think in one player you can zoom in and out, but can you turn the camera angle?

Single player doesnt have that good of a camera angle you cant turn it to the left or right, nothing. It just follows your character.

Thanks Mike, glad to know the camera angles are the same in single and multi-player...another thing I think they could have improved on.

Thanks for the tip about us having to hit the button together.  I am going to try that tonight.

And do you know how many shields there are altogether?

Also, there is a certain amount of levels I can scroll through at the beginning that are locked.  Is that all there is, or do more open up as you go?

See, you beat the game so you are now the go to guy for questions ;)

Your the best!

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Those are the only levels you can play but the beauty of going back is that you can play your favorite Task or Level over ;D

Every level besides The three Task and the Voldemort level have 38 shields. The first two task have 3 and the third task, Voldemort encounter, and Moody's challenges have none. I'm not sure how many levels there are right now but I'm about to go try on the Moody challenges so I'll look 8)

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

Cool, thanks.  Sad that is the only levels, because it is not that many..... Let me know how Moody's challenges are because I used to love the billboard collecting and the challenges Fred and George gave you in PoA (the dungbomb and statue challenges...but again, those are only ones you can do with free roam).  Let us know!!!  Thanks.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

There are 10 levels including the Moody challenges and Defence Against the Dark Art which becomes locked after you play it. There are 5 challenges in the Moody Challenge game.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

No, but let me know if it is different, because even though I am having a great time with this one, I still find it way to short and easy and I still miss the free roam.  I bought this for my nephew who is 6 for Christmas.  He could care less about collecting all the extras in the game, so he will beat this within 6 hours.  But the graphics are nice...in the first task, you see Hogwarts, and it is so nice...I wish I could explore it more....but I can't.  All in All, it is a good game, but i still prefer the older style to the games over this one IMHO.

: Re: What is your opinion of the HP games?

I miss the free roaming but with the Tasks and all the levels tying into the tasks theres no real point to roaming around.

Yes ;D I think I've found everything in the Forbidden Forest level but I'd have to check my stats to be sure 8)

I just liked the free roam because it made me feel like I was actually at Hogwarts and being a part of the movie/book myself.  This one is a little more straight on in your tasks, which I guess it okay.
Is the Forest the only one you collected everything at so far?  Those Mushrooms are a bit hard to spot.

The view isn't very good, can't see where you are off to half the time. And I am getting fed up with all the loading and choosing the characters again every five minutes. I find a shield in the Hogwarts exterior and it takes me back to the pensive. I liked the way last time you had to change characters for different tasks.

I agree 100% and I will tell you why.  It made you think.  You had to think "who has that spell?" and "what do I need to do?".  Now, you just hit one button and it does the spell you need it to, whether you know which spell you need or not.  And there is no aim either which is making me angry, because I aim at something, or try to, and I get a spell to lift a rock that is right next to what I mean to get instead......

I think they made it a bit to easy.  It would be nice to have to think more.  I do however like putting certain cards on for better abilities, but you should be able to do that whenever you want, not be put in to it every time you go in to the level.  I also agree about getting the shield and being put right back tot he pensieve.  I think it should give you the choice if you are ready to leave or not.

But hey, I am still having fun.

I have a question - those glimmering things on the ground that start to shine when you walk near to them - what do they do? I haven't worked it out yet, and looking at the manual is a preposterous suggestion ::)

You have to jinx them :)

Are you talking about in the forest?  If so, I tried to jinx them and nothing happened, they just "glowed" a little more....  Any suggestions?

And Mike, which game are you enjoying more, GoF or PoA?  I see you put that in, put I was a little confused by your post...

I was just saying I was surprised how short GOF is.

There are other mushrooms that you have to jinx. I don't know if the glowing things are mushrooms but I've collected them all :-\

I am getting the mushrooms.  Those glowy things are something different and I don't think there is anything to do with them.

Yes, it is very short huh?  That is why I am collecting everything before moving on to the second task.  I bought this for my nephew for Christmas though, he is 7, and he doesn't care about collecting everything yet.  I think he will be upset at how quickly he will get through this game. Maybe when he is older he will want to go back and collect everything.

I think the free roam helped to make the others longer too because if you just picked it up, you still had to figure where to go with everything.  Oh well, I am still having fun though.

Have any new reviews come in for it yet?

Pissed off.  I got to the second task, and it freezes, music stops playing, scenery all dissapears.  here is a glitch in my game!!!  I am taking it back to Target today for another one.  Sucks. >:(

Can someone tell me what this Vanishing Card is that I'm supposed to find in the PC version?  I've completed the Hogwarts Exterior except for this sub-quest. :-\  I noticed it's a sub-quest for the other levels also.

Yeah, it is in the PS2 version too.  I have no idea.  Let me go look it up for everyone.

I have asked for these from Santa this year.
I already have POA, and have played PS.

I cannot wait to see what he brings me this year!
I hear the game is good; and the movie better!  ;D

Thanks Mike!  By the way, I fixed my game.  The disc just got dusty :-\

I also finished the game and now need to get just 5 more shields and the other cards that Mike just helped us with.  But my husband just started Resident Evil 4, so I will probably not get to this for a long while

Mike, do you just run over the card, or do something special to pick it up?

You have to use Accio to get it

In my November issue of Disney Adventure Magazine there is a tip for the Harry Potter game

*Find and jinx all off the dragon statures throughout the game to unlcok the all-important Priori Incantatum booster card*

It was okay.  I liked it.  But it took a lot of getting used to.  I played it on co-op mode though.  I just miss a LOT of aspects from the previous games, so it just wasn't the same.
