Today I tried to send a small padded envelope to Germany insured and the lady at Australia Post told me that I can not send a parcel insured to Germany, that only documents can be sent insured. I argued with her for about 15 minutes about it but she said the only way that I can send a parcel to Germany was through Air Mail.

Has anyone in Australia had problems like this in sending parcels insured? Either in sending to Germany or other worldwide destinations?

Your help would be appreciated  ???

Nope, sorry, nothing as of yet! But that is ridiculous!Not being able to insure a parcel for overseas!

Thats odd; last time I sent a small padded envelope containing a few cards, the lady at the counter actually asked me if I needed insurance...

maybe try another post office?

I think you can send insured parcels but not to certain countries, and Germany is one of those...well that is what she was trying to explain to me. I cant go to a different post office cause this is the only one near my work, I think I might try again tomorrow but get a different person...... who knows if I will be able to do it.

I am trying to send a couple of LOTR costume cards so I have them wrapped up good and I would not dare to send them in an non-padded envelope...ahhh.......

I think I was sending to the US, but could have been the UK; I seem to only send to those two countries.

I had a quick look on the Aus Post website, it seems that only airmail letters can be insured (http://www1.auspost.com.au/international/index.asp?action=intlookup&sub=1 (http://www1.auspost.com.au/international/index.asp?action=intlookup&sub=1)). Im not sure what you can do about that...

That's easy, pull 'em out of the toploaders/screwdowns and stick 'em in an envelope. Easy ;D

Just kidding - its great that you are such a careful seller, alot out there don't care either way. My FOTR Arwen was sent in a pocket cut out from a folder and in a bubble mailer! Lucky it arrived in good condition ::) I don't think there is much you can do apart from telling your buyer that you can't insure it and do they want to risk it. Its curious as Germany can send insured stuff to us, but not vice versa... if Tea_and_Fruit or Tower are reading this, do you guys have any limitations as to what you can send insured overseas?

Yea I see what you mean, it says you can insure by EMS postage but that is the most expensive and I can not justify spending like $50-$60 to send a package that I only want insured for $20 (requested by the person I am sending it to) If I was sending it to the US I could get it insured on regular air mail or express mail, there are about 4 or 5 different options.....it is just really annoying :(

Well I think that solves your problem - Let them know that EMS is the only way to send insured to Germany - give them the link - and ask them if they want it. If not (which I guess they wouldn't) then tell them that you are sending it at their risk. There really is no other option! :-\

That would be good but I havent sold the cards, it is a trade and the person has sent mine insured already.....I have mailed them to ask what they would like to do....ahhh..im going insane....

I think it should be ok... I guess you could send a really fat/heavy letter - I am sure you could sent the cards in 2 screwdown cases and use cardboard on either side... try that maybe?

I often send cards in a normal envelope. I put them in a toploader, and then fold paper like I would a letter, putting the toploader within the paper. Ive never had any problems with that method.

if you put the cards in a 9 card holder sleeve and between to pieces of cardboard and just tell the post office it is documents and that you don't want them to crease.
that is the way i got around it .
