Since I've recently just started collecting cards from the first set, I wanted to share my new card with you.  I started this new thread because I didn't think the card belonged in the update set thread.

I have to say the Lik o Rish spiders, though not my favourite card in the first set comes a close second. There's something for everyone, I don't think I've ever seen a "boring" (a la fizzing whizzbees) swatch on a Lik O Rish spiders card.

Lots of them have writing, lots have spiders on, some have hands etc... and they are all lovely

I think all the Honydukes Candy Shop prop cards look good because of the color and patterns of the candy wrapper and boxes.

I finally collected all of the props from the original set (except for the infamous Pear Tree Leaves) and I wanted to share them.  I'm still on the lookout for a better Permission Form (Tower ;) ), but for now I'm pleased with this set.

I only pulled one of the cards - the Honeydukes Bag variant.  I pulled it from my very first box of the original set.  I think that's why I got hooked on this set.  All of the other cards were ebay auction wins and my bank account is still hurting from acquiring them! :P

Are those in sleeves, cases or picture pasted together?

That is what I'm afraid of. I know this card collecting is going to be expensive cause I used to collect all the NHL cards for years. I got probably close to a million NHL cards and look what happened to that. Now, I just got them in A LOT of albums.  ??? I don't know what to do with them now.

But Harry Potter is different cause I'm totall into HP!!!!!

For the scan I put them in a white-backed 9-pocket page.  I store them in screw-down cases (to protect the corners and keep the dust out).

Yes Tower... awesome cards too. I wish I had one of them but right now I have NONE! Except one updated Daily that I'm waiting on (crossing fingers it gets to me soon!)

I don't know how I ever let these cards pass me by for so long..... now, I bet they are so in demand, the prices are just way too expensive  ??? :'(

The prices for the first set variants have always been sky-high, so don't feel bad that you came to the hobby too late!  Occasionally, you can find a variant for less (especially from the update set).  You just have to be patient and lucky! ;)

My one and only variant (if it can be called that) from the first set is a Daily Prophet.  It looks like a funky "a" but the swatch is in the card upside down!  It's actually a lower case "p" from the word Prophet in the masthead.  I brought this to Artbox's attention, but they wouldn't replace it.  The production department said that since the newspaper is read right side up, sideways, and upside down, they thought that nothing was wrong with the card.  I argued that the masthead is right side up and meant to be read that way, to no avail.  I still like the card, though!

Oh, i'd keep this card just the way it is...... imagine if they thought they could replace it and then lost it?!?! It's awesome just like it is...... Way to go. Somehow, I just have to patience like  you said but last night I went looking around for cards and I spent hours comparing all of the ones I liked and ended up getting a headache from all those choices and just confused the hell out of me..... so I turned off the computer LOL :-[

Yeah Kbmum's is great. I do like the picture of Sirius on the update DP better he looks a bit scarey on the orginal, ok he's supposed to be  ::) but we all know Sirius is ok really.

The different cards in the sets, plus the variants of the cards, and then the prices can be overwhelming! ???  Turning off the computer was probably the wisest thing to do!  ;)

Anna...... I couldn't believe how hard it was to focus! Since I need all the cards, I just got mixed up on what I really wanted so I decided to start all over today.  I never even tried any of the local cards store in my city and there are lots of em. Although I remember asking around before and they just didn't carry them so my best bet is on ebay. So I think I will be very dizzy for a while longer  :o

Morningangel-Iola.... nice card. Looks like the contents of the prophet. I think my card is a capital letter but I have yet to examine it up close cause I still haven't gotten it.  :'( I'm sure it's on its merry way to me soon. I will post it when it arrives.

I've most ofl my cards on ebay. I would say have a nose at the price guide see what you fancy do you home work (see what's a decent price) then have a look at the old ebay and see if one of them you fancy. But don't rush into it I would say, I fancy an unfogging the future but they are all a bit boring at the moment so I shall wait.

I realised that I could possible get all the prop cards from the undate (minus the willow but theres no way with that one), I already have four.

I really like both Daily Prophet cards, but I'm not so sure about another one in the SS set.  Seems like overkill to me.

Hvnsntluv, are there a couple of cards you'd like above all the others?  That should be what you focus on first.  You could also watch the auctions that will end soon and see if any have low bids.  You never know, you could walk away with a steal! :)

I think I got a good one..... marauder's map for $66. It has a lot of writing on it too. I was looking at the prist listing and it seems to be a good deal but I'm not sure so I over bid just so that I get it. I really wanted it too. ;D

I am new here so I just want to say that I don't know anyone ebay id so I am not stealing cards on purpose, just that I wanted it much more...... that's all. Plus, seems everyone has everything around here. I was hoping no else is going for the cards I want cause I just don't have them to begin with. I just don't wanna upset anyone.... :-[

That's a good question. I think I really like the marauder's map the best, since I think it's the best magical prop if they ever was one..... next to the invisibility cloak!

Before I ran into this site, I was bidding and over bidding i guess on any of the cards. But after the other nights dizziness and confusion  :o This marauder's card is what I really wanted and focused on. But I want more.... that's not so bad, is it?

The Update Set is now complete.  :D The 1st set is nearly complete now. I don't own the two 100 robes. But i won't buy them for the usual prices, i guess they will miss much longer or forever. They are not important for me, because not different of the 500s. Not worth the money in my opinion.
But i thought the same about the Pear Tree Leaves. ;)

If you right click on the icon Tower posted, select Properties and then highlight the Address URL ... copy it then paste it into another IE browser ... you should find that his gif shows up when you next refresh the Forum page.
I think what happens is that a cookie is placed on your computer in connection with this little icon so in turn you can 'see' it ... anyone please correct me if I'm totally wrong, but that's how I do it anyway! ;)

Well, i made a decision last week. You know that i have a (almost) POA Master Set. But i had never the chance to buy any Hobby Box. I detected the collecting of trading cards in June/July 2004 (so i'm still a newbie, i had really no idea that those cards exist 1 year ago) and that was too late to buy any POA Hobby Box for a reasonable price (not much more than $100). Especially when i think, at that time i planned to spend not more than $200-$300 for ALL the props, costumes and autos TOGETHER, which i will EVER own.  :o  I will never understand how i could forget all these plans. ;)

Well, my decision was, i can't own a Master Set without having bought at least one box. I didn't feel good with that. ;) So i bought one last week for a good and fair price and it arrived today. Well, i had bad luck, "only" a George Auto inside. But better than a Dud Box. ;)

If anybody is interested in the card, please tell me, otherwise it will go tomorrow to...  :ebay:

Excellent cards. The close observer will notice that the Black Pepper Imps alone proves two points;
1. The low numbers don't always guarantee a great swatch.  :o
2. A little wrinkle may be a good indication that it was actually used. ( Dare I say credibility?)  :)

I've never seen a Permission form like it :) well done! (some come up time and again the Hogwarts Crest and the PER - although they are both cool, I'd take yours anyday.

When I was looking at the cards, it was the Permission Form that I really wanted. 8)  But the other cards somehow ended up in my shopping basket when it was time to check out. :-[  ::)

I'm guessing here, but I think the letters "elevent" is from the word relevant. :-\  This is the only Permission Form that I've ever seen that had more lettering than "PER" (like Tower's Permission Form), but I'm not sure of where it came from. :-\

Now, how do you suppose that happened...ummmm? ::)

When I used to go to the super market when John was a baby all sorts of things showed up in the cart at the check out.

I do see what you are saying, but it is still different, so I like it.  To be honest though, I like my swatch of this card, which is just a plain old swatch.  But it was the first prop card I ever pulled, so it means a bit to me ;)

Mmmm I wasn't sure about this either.  I love variants but this looks just a bit too way out there for me.  But this person has loads of good cards for sale.  I have never used them and they have quite a low feedback score at the moment, but we all have to start somewhere  :)

Sharon - I've bought stuff from this seller just recently and had no problems whatsoever! ;)
The contact emails were friendly and very helpful and the cards I won arrived properly packaged and quickly, so I was quite happy to leave them a glowing feedback! ;) ;D

Back when POA was released, there was some discussion here about the Dervish and Banges bag.  The general consensus was that swatches like the one in this auction came from the bottom of the bag where sections had been glued together. :)  Some people might consider it a variant.

I have one of these cards (with a little more green than the one up for auction).  I actually like it! ;D It's not the usual green that we normally see.  I guess I would consider it a variant.

I know that the George quidditch robe for this set was the easiest costume card to pull, but how rare is one that is both yellow and red? I just got my hands on one on  :ebay: along with a couple other items in a lot of cards and was just wondering. Any ideas? How many have been found that are both Red and Yellow?

This card has part of his name or number from the robe.  They are harder to come by, but have been seen.  I would say that the ones with more yellow, or all yellow are worth more than ones with a little yellow, but it is still considered a variant, and still worth more ;D.  Congrats on the find!!

I know in PoAU, the Cedric costume card had some like this too, but it was yellow and brown.  Only saw one or two of them though, and then the few with part of the Hufflepuff patch on the dual costumes.  But these are all variants.

We only had the base set of HP POA untill now when we bought some costume cards from Roz off  :ebay: last night (Thanks Roz!!),we at the moment like with our othe costume cards just storing in our ultra pro 9 pockets sleeves and are asking the more experienced collectors which is the best way to keep these.

No not complete.....still need the Pear Tree...for POA and the Triple for POAU..and the GOFU Cedric 25 Case wand..when it comes to the TRIPLE I don't think I will ever buy it because don't need the fab 3's autos 3 times over and over....off the top of my head that I can think of ..have at least 3 RADCLIFFE autos....2 WATSON autos and 2 GRINT autos already....having a hard time to justify, why I should pay out another $800-$1000 for all 3 of their autos again

Yeah, I know...it's not the most fantastic variant, but this card is now very special to me!!!
With this card, I have my very first master set (and yes, that does include all colored base sets, promos, and binder  ;) )!!!! I was so excited to share yesterday, but Shack was down!!! AAAAHHHH!!!  :o I can't explain how happy I am to finally have a master!!! And IMO, this is probably one of the hardest sets to complete!! I'm on cloud nine!!!!  ;D ;D

What a great box you managed to get your hands on.
Where did you manage to get it for £60 Razzer?. What a snip, when you consider what you pulled.
At least you didn't get a dud box or even worse.......THE GEORGE WEASLEY QUIDDITCH ROBE!!! :o :o

I have gone and purchased another POA box too Razzer. I know i said i wouldn't after what happened with my other 2 boxes but i couldn't resist it.
When it comes to the POA boxes you just have to take the gamble.
Sometimes it doesn't pay of ( all the time in my case ) but when it does..boy oh boy!!.
Not quite as cheap as yours Razzer but i got it for £70 and £10 postage from ebay so for £80 in total i'm not complaining.
If my pulls are anything like yours Razzer i'll be extremely happy. Then again, as long as i don't get another Dumbledore Auto and George Weasley Quidditch Robe i'll be happy with anything!.

Thanks Bitsy. I don't know how long it will be before i get the box though. The post is a total mess here in the UK at the moment with all the postal strikes we've been having over the last couple of weeks.
I can just imagine it now....i'll wait forever for it to arrive and i'll get yet another Dumbledore auto and George Weasley quidditch robe!.ha.ha!. :D

Nothing like Razzer's cards, but at least it wasn't a dud box.
I did manage to pull Harry's Common Black Cloak 187/750 and a Ginny Weasley Auto Card.
Nothing extraordinary i know but still a couple of nice cards and i'm quite pleased as i actually got some different cards this time! ;D and i've got a Memorable Moments box to come next week which i have never had before so i'm really looking forward to getting it.

I think you had a sweet box--especially knowing that Harry and Ginny are soul mates.  :)
