: A VERY cool competition from Rittenhouse Archives
: Roz January 11, 2005, 12:57:45 AM
Now... whilst I daresay most of us like to keep our trading cards at home nice and safe in a binder Rittenhouse Artchives are (apparently) encouraging us to take our trading cards out and about and take a photo with yourself and the card in it (and maybe a local landmark - or you wearing something silly so the Judge of the competition (sketchqueen) doesn't get bored looking through them all!

And when I say Judge, it seems (please correct me if I am wrong) that every entrant who sticks by the rules will get something (a very nice costume card I believe, from a RA series of your choice - see below)

I might suggest wearing clogs if you are from the Netherlands :) And I am wondering if I am brave (or stupid enough) to try to steal a bearskin hat from the guards on the front gates of Buckingham palace to have my photo taken wearing one and holding my best Rittenhouse Archives card  ;D.

Here's the terms and conditions - and please ensure you have a RA card in your hand... whilst Joanna (sketchqueen) will be delighted to see you standing by the Eiffel Tower holding your Fellowship Merry she won't be awarding you a RA costume for your trouble ;)

Here's the official info:

A picture is worth a thousand words, or at least a free card!
As we approach the end of the year, we often find ourselves reflecting on the year that has past as well as those years before it. As a collector, you may find yourself going through your cards of days gone by and recounting fond memories. We want you to share those memories and your prized possessions with us. Take a photo of your most prized Rittenhouse Archives trading card and let us know why it is so special. Email your submissions to us at contests@scifihobby.com and in return we will send you a FREE costume card. Be sure to let us know which property you would like your costume card from and include your mailing address. Costume cards are available from Star Trek, Farscape, Xena, Hercules, Outer Limits and Stargate SG-1. Contest is open til January 31st or when supplies run out, so dig out those older sets, find your favorite card and put on your best smile.

The rules:

One entry per person
Photos will not be returned
Rittenhouse Archives reserves the right to publish on their website any photos or comments submitted.
No indecent photos please!
Failure to specify from which property you would like your costume card will result in a random choice.
You may postal mail your entries to the address below and all entries must be postmarked by January 31, 2005

It seems the address has been chopped off, so here's the address for postal entries :

Rittenhouse Archives
Attn: PHOTO CONTEST (very important to include this line!!)
PO BOX 377
Jenkintown PA 19046
USA

So - PPLLEEAASSEE - send me some pictures :) and you may be creative and not just stand there looking angry and holding a card (I've had about 40 of that particular shot) and PLEASE - make sure the card you're holding is from Rittenhouse and not Topps, Skybox or Inkworks (yes, I've had all three!)

And thanks to Roz for posting this here :)

:)

I guess at least Skybox is forgivable since you managed to get their Star Trek license from them...  :-\ but some of the others are less so ;)

Check for the RA or scifihobby logo on your card before taking the Eurostar to Paris ;)

Wow, thanks! I did not even see that article on the newsletter! I'm going to head out to the CN Tower with my camera right now!

P.S. I collect Stargate cards and I wanted to know what set the card will be from. Thanks!!!

There you go Joanna - that's at least one entry that has the right card and doesn't have someone looking angry with a card ;)

Nice job Rittenhouse - what a cool promotion!!  :)

Yes, it's a very generous promotion. I entered with the standard picture of me holding the card.(sorry sketchqueen) Now I wish I'd done something a little different, but I was so darn anxious to enter! ;D

At any rate, it's EXTREMELY nice of a company to give away free cards! Thanks Rittenhouse.

As long as you weren't looking very angrily into the camera, I'm sure it was just fine :)

It was the 40 or so entries where the people were giving me the 'look of death' that was starting to make me worried!!

Hmmm - is *not looking at the camera at all* ok? I appear to be looking at the ice.

I think I can live with that :)

Stopped sniggering yet? Or are they all still coming in?

What's the next competition going to be? Encouraging us to write songs about trading cards ;) ?? I am not sure I'd be any good at that... unless it was the extremely melodramatic trials and tribulations of case opening to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody

 ;D

I've completed sending out Farscape, Stargate, Outer Limits and Hercules. I'm still working my way through Xena and Star Trek :)  and of course, anyone who allowed me to pick for them! Crazy people - never let the CS manager pick for you ;)

Of course, missing most of February due to various illnesses caused a slight backlog that I'm almost through ...

The best part is if you work for Rittenhouse ;) I'm taking all the photos and making a collage for the office door - we'll be the only ones who see them all, but it will serve to remind us exactly *who* we're working for...

SQ reliably informs me my costume is on it's way.... I'm getting very excited but also worried as to what she might do with the pictures ;)

My current plan is to mount all the pictures on a poster board, like a collage, and then snap a digital photo of the collage and post that. I'm pretty sure that will alleviate most of the fears that have been expressed about people's pictures being posted EVEN though we made it clear that was our intention.

Now, of course, having said that, finding time to make a collage is another story :) My son starts baseball today and they practice on Saturdays, which is generally when I take time to catch up from work with stuff like this... We'll see though :) Maybe TNG Quotable will release without any problems and I'll have FREE TIME at work ;)

yeah.. sure... that's my luck...

Oh pfft - not you Roz. I had 21 emails from 21 different people mostly SCREAMING ALL IN CAPITALS that I couldn't possibly post *their* picture -

In the end, I figured I'd be happier this way :) less stress makes for a happier Joanna

really that many but i thought that was the plan with the photos. you shopuld send back a message sayingthat after looking at all the photos you've decidid only to put the goodlooking peoples photos up. then everyone would want theirs up.

: gimli April 08, 2005, 02:43:56 AM
if they didn't want their pictures posted they should not have entered They agreed to having their pictures posted by entering as that was stated as what would happen to them.  If they are that bothered return their photo and say no costume for you.

Ungreatful stupid people >:( If you enter something you can't pick and choose how you entry will be used

Too true! The ego can't be denied :)

I thought some were better quality than others, but I was still thrilled to get so many entries. I thought some people really put effort into it, while others were obviously doing it just to get a free card (which I knew going into it) so maybe I should just publish those pics :)

So are you telling me the world will not see Mark dazed and confused after finding out (following several runnings into the wall at Kings Cross) that muggle's can't get into platform 9.75?
