: Re:Weta Morgul Code : MakTheYak December 16, 2004, 05:12:04 PM Anyone interested, please buy through the Yak Shack Affiliate Scheme! It doesn't cost you any more but it helps us run the site ;)
Here's your link: (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/affiliates/banners/9711_600x400.jpg) (http://sideshow.directtrack.com/z/10952/CD974/) Cheers guys! :D : Re:Weta Morgul Code : savage727 December 16, 2004, 11:25:38 PM Shoot Mark - this was not up yet when I ordered mine early this morning or else I would have been happy to do so!
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 17, 2004, 12:12:02 AM Is the code the same in every ROTK EE Collector's Set does anyone know?
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : savage727 December 17, 2004, 12:39:36 AM Yes Jules the code is the same in every set.
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 17, 2004, 12:43:16 AM Shoot Mark - this was not up yet when I ordered mine early this morning or else I would have been happy to do so! Mark was awaiting confirmation of acceptance onto the scheme and posted it as soon as he got accepted. : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 17, 2004, 12:48:49 AM Thanks Ed!
For a nasty moment I thought the codes would all be different! :o Now all I have to decide is whether to take the plunge and pre-order! ::) Like Mark, I'm a bit concerned about the packaging and potential damage during shipping but ours in the UK will be shipped from an 'EU warehouse' according to the WETA site not the US .... don't know if that's a good thing or not. Thanks for posting the 'Morgul' info Andy and thanks to Mark too for the affiliate link ... I'll be sure to use it when the time comes for me to parted from more of my cash! HaHa!! :P : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 17, 2004, 01:05:20 AM just checked the Sideshow web site and the EU store is in england, so hopefully no damages ;D
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 17, 2004, 02:16:53 AM Excellent!
So ... we get charged the VAT at 17.5% but shouldn't get hammered for Customs .... please correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't want to go ahead and pre-order and find out differently the hard way! :-\ If that's correct then ... YIPPEE!!!!!! ;) Thanks again Andy! ;D : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 17, 2004, 02:21:12 AM No you won't get charged customs, in fact you won't get customs on anything from within the EU but that doesn't apply anyway since it's inland :)
please use the forum link (wink wink nudge nudge) I think that the proceeds from one Morgul statue *should* pay for 3 days running the forum :) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 17, 2004, 02:29:41 AM just go this of the weta wib site. hopefully it will make it clear
We have recently started shipping European orders from a fulfillment warehouse located in the UK. The UK requires us,, to collect 17.5% VAT tax on all orders sold and delivered to UK customers. : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 17, 2004, 03:03:45 AM WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!
*does the hippy hoppy happy dance!* Thanks to everyone for clarifying it for me! ;D : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 18, 2004, 07:13:36 PM If Anyone that wants one of these weta apparantly only have less than 100
to go before selling out. This from sideshow collectables Email. ROTK DVD Gift set owners are being offered an opportunity to purchase the Minas Tirith companion piece of MINAS MORGUL as well as the Sideshow / Weta free* gift of THE CROWN OF KING ELESSAR! (*shipping costs apply.) This offer is only good while supplies last and they are moving faster than the Army of the Dead! In fact, there are less than 100 pieces left!!! : Re:Weta Morgul Code : robwaddle December 18, 2004, 08:42:42 PM They've old out now.
Rob ::) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 18, 2004, 10:23:57 PM I know!
Checked my emails first thing and saw their notice ... scooted over from the affiliate link on here only find they'd sold out! :-\ Oh well, I've put my name on their waiting list but don't hold out much hope on being able to get one ... my own stupid fault for leaving doing it straightaway :'( : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 19, 2004, 12:12:18 AM I dillied and I dallied and I decided against it because I was more interested in the crown than the Morgul :P and now I am not sure if I made the right choice, but people like us Jules will keep the ebay prices up ;)
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 19, 2004, 01:11:56 AM Ha! You're right there Roz! ::) :P
I'm just quietly cursing my inertia over ordering Minas Morgul as it looks stunning ... hey ho! To be honest, I'm more interested in the Minas Tirith piece and I intend hunting down my copy of the EE next week :) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 19, 2004, 01:29:45 AM i'm Sure there will be people who will have it on e-bay as soon as they receive the Crown and Minas Morgul
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 19, 2004, 01:32:56 AM To be honest, I'm more interested in the Minas Tirith piece and I intend hunting down my copy of the EE next week :) :o You are on our LOTR forum Jules but don't own a copy of ROTK EE?? Shoo ... OUT :P Wow - you are in for a treat! And if you haven't been to see the LOTR Symphony I think the DVD that you get with the EE will whet your appetite. : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 19, 2004, 01:47:53 AM Yes, I'm sure there will!
I'd be really grateful if one of you (who has successfully ordered Minas Morgul) would be kind enough to PM me the amount it would've cost me if I'd got my finger out and done the same and preferably based here in the UK please. I'd like to get some idea of it's original price (think it totalled $US123 incl. P+P) so I know how much I'm going to end up getting fleeced for later on fleabay! ::) :-\ I know ... I KNOW Roz! *wails* :'( I had such a bad experience on Amazon with my FOTR Collector's Set last year that I wasn't keen on buying it online, even from somewhere like Play.com ~ which is a pity really as they've aways been great to deal with. Where have you all bought your copies from ... online or the high street? PLMK of the online ones, who has managed to package it properly so the box arrives in one piece! Which high street shops have stocked them and who has the best price? Don't worry Roz ... it's my *mission* next week .... "Go hunt some EE!" .... and never mind anyone's Xmas pressies! :P : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 19, 2004, 01:50:06 AM I got mine from Choicesdirect.com
The packing was perfect. : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 19, 2004, 01:54:00 AM I'm in england and my total In Dollars is $121.33 that should be about £70 give or take .
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 19, 2004, 02:30:28 AM Thanks on both accounts there Andy!! ;D
I've had loads of DVD's from Play.com but nothing as big as the Collector's Set ... they mostly use jiffy mailers to send them in and I've no idea what they'd use on a box that size. Thanks once again Andy ... it okay me calling you 'Andy' or would you prefer summat else? ;) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 19, 2004, 02:46:39 AM Funnily enough I bought mine from play.com and it came in a big box - all was well so you should be ok to go ahead and order - but their last Christmas orders were on Friday :'(
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 19, 2004, 02:53:55 AM If that's the case then I think I'll just go and order it from them Roz .. if it turns up before Xmas then all well and good, if not ... well, I've waited this long I don't mind waiting a bit longer! ;)
Thanks for letting me know! :-* : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 19, 2004, 02:56:54 AM *sighs* ... guess I'll be waiting longer still ... its "not currently available" ... bugger :-\
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 19, 2004, 03:24:27 AM Oh yeah - sorry! My friend works at play - they only had about 1500 in and they kept 150 behind in case of any faulty ones....
Sorry Jules I forgot :'( Try this - amazon have it in stock ;) and it's our affiliate link too :P http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002GX9KA/theyakshack-21 You can choose free posting - they won't guarantee for Christmas either with free posting but I'd be inclined to take a risk on it myself rather than fork out a fortune :) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : robwaddle December 19, 2004, 08:13:49 PM Got mine from Virgin in Birmingham at just after midnite on the 10th. Signed by Billy Boyd no less :D ;D
Rob :P :P : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 20, 2004, 03:19:15 AM Ooooooooooo COOL Rob! :o ;D
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : savage727 December 22, 2004, 06:33:46 PM I was so impressed with the Minas Tirith environment that when Minas Morgul was offered especially with the free King Elessar Crown I knew I was going to buy it. Since that happened I started looking at the other environments offered by Sideshow - The Golden Hall, Helm's Deep, and the Mines of Moria which have all been sold out. I picked up both The Golden Hall and Helm's Deep on ebay for very reasonable prices and am zeroing in on a Mines of Moria piece. Sideshow/Weta sure does a great job with all of their pieces! :)
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 24, 2004, 06:17:24 AM Please mistress Roz?
Can I rejoin the thread now? I found one of the last Collector's Sets and bought it! YAY!! ;D Went ALL over town trying to find one and got it in MVC ~ the last place I went into on my way home from work on Tuesday afto. I had thought of trying the Virgin Store here, but didn't know/realise their shop had gone till I went looking for it. :-\ I only had a short while to gaze at the statue before the whole thing was whisked away and it was wrapped up to be given to me on Christmas morning ... the detail on it is truly amazing and I'm really sorry I missed out on pre-ordering the Minas Morgul companion piece now! :-\ :'( Oh well, I'm happy to get the gift set so I shouldn't complain. :P ;D : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 24, 2004, 05:24:56 PM Hooray!
Welcome back Jules! I wonder how many of the EE "Collectors" boxed sets they make, this one seems fairly rare, the FOTR one has shot up in price but I haven't looked into the TT Gollum one - any ideas? : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Quickbeam December 24, 2004, 06:21:44 PM Ha! You're right there Roz! ::) :P I'm just quietly cursing my inertia over ordering Minas Morgul as it looks stunning ... hey ho! I am only now seeing this thread and reading your posts was like watching a car accident that you know is going to happen in slow motion and there is not a thing you can do about it! Truly painful. I was practically screaming as I scrolled, ORDER!! ORDER!! Truly painful. My wife and I ordered our Minas Morgul at about 12:25 am In the 17th, I was one of the wierdos waiting at Midnight at Walmart for it. Actually I was the only one... ::) We wanted to get in before they ran out of the Elessar crowns, had no idea they would sell out the Minas Morgul so quickly. We learned our lesson from the Sideshow/Weta Elessar Statue, we were not particularly moved to buy from the early images they showed of it and decided to wait and see better pics. The piece sold out and a week or so later THEN they showed pics of it and it was GORGEOUS!!! We sulked for months as presells on eBay topped 300+ dollars for them and resigned ourselves to never having one. Then the light of the Valar shown down upon us and the New Line Shop offered them upon rlease (I guess they don't do presells) and we were able to snag one for original retail price with free shipping and no tax!!! Cheaper than it would have been from Sideshow!!! We learned our lesson and gladly did not have to pay dearly for our procrastination. QB : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 24, 2004, 10:17:52 PM I think you're right on the rarity of the ROTK Set and certainly on the FOTR one Roz. I've no idea just how many they did release but I've a feeling it was a lot less than the other two sets. Not many places stocked them here to start with (Derby isn't that small a city!!) and they only had very limited numbers anyway ... once they'd gone that was it ~ no more sets! :-[
As for the TTT Set ... I've seen a few of them still available (one in WHSmiths a couple of weeks ago which has since been snapped up!) and that's the one which I think is perhaps the least popular out of the three ... not everyone would necessarily want to have a figure of Gollum for that amount of money would they? I'm happy now that I have all of them and if I can 'snag' a Minas Morgul in the coming months then that would be lovely ~ I won't lose any sleep over it if I can't! :P I'm pleased you managed to find a way of getting the Sideshow items you wanted which works best for you Quickbeam and even better that it was cheaper for you too! It's a hard way of gaining the experience though! :-\ Don't worry ... the same thought occurred to me whilst I was trying to make up my mind on pre-ordering the MM piece, but unfortunately 'real life' got in the way of me actually doing it :-[ I'll know better for another time ;) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 24, 2004, 10:55:21 PM Hee hee - I was only thinking of ordering for the Elessar Crown too :) like Ed I was wondering if they might sell it separately - probably not but one might turn up on ebay at less than the package cost to the UK - BAH what can I say? I am a student - space is pretty limited around here!
: Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 24, 2004, 11:04:14 PM True ... but they ship from the UK anyway so it shouldn't be too expensive.
And as for having limited space ... *pah!* ... clutter is GOOD!! ;D : Re:Weta Morgul Code : AndyfanLOTR December 25, 2004, 02:45:49 AM I've seen the two towers box set At the Derby Hmv £29.99 On release the had over 25
in at £49.99 but soon dropped the price.But for the ROTK everywhere had less in, So have to wonder about release Quantity's : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 25, 2004, 03:08:08 AM I saw the Two Towers Sets at those prices too and the one in WHS was thirty quid prior to the ROTK Set being released and I think it was a bit higher afterwards ... not 100% on that but I heard someone comment on the price as they walked past it.
A friend of mine up in Leeds got me a second TTT Set a few months ago and I bet there'll be people quietly kicking themselves that they didn't get them to sell on later at a profit. ::) The Derby HMV used to stock all the LOTR merchandise ... t-shirts, mugs, glasses etc, the same with Another World before they sold out to Forbidden Planet ~ neither carry those items anymore. Virgin used to have some stuff but the shop's gone altogether! :-\ I feel like I'm living in a LOTR void here!! :-[ The nearest place which has any kind of selection is the Cinema Store over in Nottingham and they're expensive. :o Small wonder I get most items from eBay then is it? I do think that the ROTK Set was released in much smaller quantities worldwide and I'd be very interested to know a figure on that amount. ;) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Ed... Van Halen December 25, 2004, 03:35:58 AM Does anyone in the UK have a Fopp store nearby?? My local store in cardiff has the TTT Gify set for £25...not sure if thats good or not...
EVH : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Quickbeam December 25, 2004, 05:43:42 AM I saw the Two Towers Sets at those prices too and the one in WHS was thirty quid prior to the ROTK Set being released and I think it was a bit higher afterwards ... not 100% on that but I heard someone comment on the price as they walked past it. I do think that the ROTK Set was released in much smaller quantities worldwide and I'd be very interested to know a figure on that amount. ;) From what I've seen on eBay the UK (PAL) versions of the EEs must be fairly short production as they sell for quite a pretty penny (or is that a pence?). Here in the US I still regularly see FOTR EE Gift Sets at Mall stores as well as TT ones so it seems they produced more than enough to meet demand here. I think they underestimate Brits mania for LOTR in this case bigtime. Y'all seem to be a market unto yourselves over there, I'm constantly amazed at some of the cool stuff you get over there, I get many packages from eBay stuff from the UK let me tell you! QB : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Nienna December 25, 2004, 05:57:45 AM That's a good price Ed ... the ones I've seen here have all been at least £30, if not more.
The only problem with the US versions is that you have to have a multi-region DVD player to be able to play the discs or get the player unlocked to all regions (which you can't always do with the more expensive ones) ~ and not everyone has the knowledge or ability do that! The shipping costs for the Collectors Sets to have them sent over is prohibitive too because of the weight, so that might be why us Brits stick to buying them this side of the pond! ;) : Re:Weta Morgul Code : Roz December 25, 2004, 07:16:38 PM Yep you are right there QB, I had an American flatmate (from Arizona) last year and he used to say that he thought LOTR was a LOT more popular over here than over there!
However HE wasn't here when the first movie of Potter came out - jeez you couldn't catch a bus or look at a single bill board without seeing Potter - it was everywhere.... I think LOTR has had the last laugh though - the LOTR movies are out of this world : Re:Weta Morgul Code : savage727 December 26, 2004, 05:22:16 PM Now Roz I will have to disagree with you on that. First off Arizona is a small State population wise and is a desert for crying out loud! You can't expect much from that! ;) The entire LOTR's franchise has been huge here in the United States and I would venture to say that the vast majority of money generated on all things LOTR's was spent by LOTR's fans here due to our population base if for no other reason. Another indicator is to look at who wins the various ebay auctions and where they are from. Now I am talking about the U.S. ebay site in the main here but I have seen many, many U.K. ebay auctions won by folks from this side of the pond. Does this make us more fanatical about the LOTR's than U.K. fans - definately not!! It is just a matter of numbers that is all.
