I just purchased a dual Quidditch card that has a part of the patch or something from Cedri'c robe. Does anyone have any idea where on the costume this would be found?

I think it's part of the leafy scrollwork around the Hufflepuff logo (for lack of a better term).

Yup, that's it kbmum!!!  In fact, if you look closely at my card and your link, you can even see one of the black lines in the paterrn on the bottom of the swatch.  Just turn that swatch sideways and stick it on that emblem.  So I guess their emblem is on the front of their robes?  If that is the case, there are not too many of these floating around, except the one that sold a while ago on eBay that had white in it from the emblem.  here that one is, and with this post kbmum gave us, I now know exactly where this one is from too!!

      I'm new to the shack, but have used the price guide for some time to help with purchasing POA update cards from eBay.  I appreciate all the effort put into the price guide. I have been collecting Harry Potter stuff for quite some time and probably having the largest collection in West Virginia. I also recently acquired a special card that I would like to share. Dave, the card is beautiful.  I think I may have seen it on eBay actually.  That is how I got my card as well, but sine it is coming from the UK to the US, and was shipped just last week, I don't have it just yet.  I am hoping it is there when I get home from work today.  I must say though, your card is really nice.  I am glad you were able to share it with us.

As far as I know there has only been one other anywhere near like it - it too had the sun on but was OFF CENTRE! So yours remains one of a kind :)

I also purchased a card similar to yours from ebay.  The sun is a little off center though.  I just made the purchase a couple of days ago and it's coming from the UK so I probably still have at least a week to wait.  Here is a very small picture from the auction.

I had good luck and got my unfogging-card much cheaper, also the other two cards. Have a look at the 3 scans. I really love the Wanted Poster, i didn´t see a similar one yet and it was less than £50. Just like the other two cards. Bargains in my opinion. :)

      i'm  kinda disappointed now seeing dewdude with an exact card and the nice card  tower got. I believe I watched the auction for the hourglass card on eBay for awhile and you are right I gave a heafty price for the unfogging card I purchased. I also saw a nice one on the Great Britian site with a Hand on it that I bid on. Ah but its not about the price its about the piece and I am very happy to add it to my collection. Many of the words in the map swatch repeat themselves.  I used the University of Notre Dame online Latin Dictionary, and roughly translated, the words mean:

The Marauders are daring in every way. OR -- The Marauders are always daring. (Having thought about it for days, I think the second one is the better translation.)

Audere: to be daring
Audentia: boldness, courage
Omni: Omni is the stem for a number of words, all with a meaning of all, every, entirely, wholly, and in general.

My Marauders is cool - not in a lettering way but somehow it makes your eyes go funny and SWEAR the swatch is 3D (I'll bring it along to the next forum "event" like a memo or whatever so that people can back me up on this). I'll get Mark to scan it in (our collection is back in Cambridge and I have moved South for Christmas now) though the "cutting edge coolness"* of the swatch may not scan well

(sorry RNS Sara I know I've owed you a scan of that for a while - only Mark has a scanner  :-\)

* For those of you who don't know I giggled a LOT to myself as it actualy said on the LOTR Trilogy Chrome sell sheet that the set had "the cutting edge coolness of Chrome" ... who are they trying to kid? Yep it's quite a snazzy idea but who the heck came up with the (quite frankly embarassing phrase) "cutting edge coolness"?

erevine, I agree, I would also like to see more variant costumes.  It seems there are lots with the props, but not many costumes.  This is really neat with the hermione sweater, as you can really see the difference of the clean and dirty parts.  I know my variant is of the Hufflepuff patch, but I would love to see some with a Variant of Harry's swatch too.

It is Christmas Eve Day and my card arrived!!  What a great gift for myself ;D!!!  The picture doesn't do it any justice. It is amazing how the patch looks! I don't think I have ever been so happy about getting a card.

The Fizzing Wizzbees card is really neat.  So colorful!!! Great find Tower!!  Also, your gold divination prop (if you bought it on eBay) was one I was watching.  I didn't know it was you bidding at the time, but I thought about bidding on it up until the very last second.  It is so neat, and I am very happy for you :D.  I am sure a divination prop will come along for me after the holidays ;)

I'm also very happy that I won a Divination Prop #2 (/930) this week, so once it arrives, I'll have a nice mini-master prop set (excluding case incentives).  Well, not quite as nice as Tower's, but still pretty good for the amount of money I put into it! :)

It's wonderful when you pull something as nice as that ~ I guess it's that *buzz* which keeps all of us buying more of them! ::)

Yes, that card must have been thrilling to pull!!  That is why I still like getting boxes.  A lot of times, you may get a card that is really nice like that, something you may not have been able to afford on eBay.

That's the problem, though.  It's so much fun to open boxes!  I'd love to get a few more, but for the same price I can buy quite a few good inserts.  What to do, what to do... :)

I know what you mean.  I keep telling myself that I am done with buying boxes, especially if I end up with a duplicate of a card I already have that doesn't go for much.  However, I am going to another card show in April, and if they are there, I just don't know if I will be able to resist the urge and temptation of buying another box.....or two ;)

I have the same dilemma... ;) I have another box tucked away in the cupboard and its calling out to be opened...Im torn between opening it, and leaving it while buying the cards I want...

That's a tough call.  You could be buying a card you all ready have in that box.  On the other hand, you could open it and find nothing but a Lupin jacket.

I hate to malign the Lupin card.  It's a very nice card, even if there are a lot of them.  Although, I'm still ticked off that Artbox produced two Lupin costumes (three, if you count the two variants in the 834 card) and no Sirius costume! :P

This is the first time I have ever posted in my life so I hope I'm doing this correctly.  I also have been wondering why there are two Lupin costumes, But then I looked more closely at the coat costume and am wondering if the coat is actually Sirius Black's coat.    In the picture, Sirius is the one facing forward not Lupin.  Do you think that's a possibility? :'(

kbmum actually wrote to Artbox about that and it turns out that the two different Lupin colored jackets are two different costumes of his.  She would be able to tel you better what they actually said.

Hi Anna!  There are actually two Lupin costume cards, but one of the cards has two variations.  First, there's the Lupin jacket /2900.  That's the tweed coat that rips as Lupin transforms.  I've never seen a variant with the ripped portion of the jacket, but if someone has one, please post a scan!

The second card is commonly called a Lupin shirt /834.  I wrote to Artbox about this one because I wanted to know from where the different fabrics came.  It turns out that the black fabric is another jacket (maybe his cloak, robe, or the suit he wears in class) and the gray fabric is his shirt.  The Artbox production department could not tell me how many of each fabric were made, other than both fabrics had a total print run of 834.

When the set was first released, a lot of us thought the Lupin jacket /2900 was part of the Sirius costume.  Unfortunately, Artbox did not make an error with the card.  If you look carefully at his jacket (on the card or even on the DVD), you'll see that the fabric matches the swatch in the card.

Oh well, let's hope there's a Sirius costume in the GOF set!  I thought that might be the reason they didn't do one for the update.  There's a lengthy scene in the book where the trio visit Sirius in a Hogsmeade cave, and Sirius is wearing the same prison uniform from when they saw him in the Shrieking Shack.

I almost bought a Malfoy robe the other week, then opened a box when I missed the auction end, and pulled the card! So it does happen...

I would love to know where to get tins 1 and 5.  I have the other three so far.  They are really nice looking tins as well. And I got a foil card from the retail packs that is not in the hobby.  It is really nice looking.

i also just purchased a Marauders Map.  It has a lot of old looks to it (like darker spots and what looks like a water mark stain).  My husband loves the old look to it, I just can't wait to see it in person.

Yeah it's not that easy even on macro mode to get pictures of swatches... does anyone have any tips?

And I prefer to use the camera rather than subject my card to the light of my scanner.

To be honest if using a flash, it could be more damaging than a scanner light.

Here's my Fizzing Whizbees card that I got a couple of weeks ago.  It's not as colorful as Roz's, but I liked the eyeball.

That is neat.  Here is the Map card I got.  I don't have it in hand yet, but here is what it looks like.  As I said, it looks very old looking and has a "water mark" on it that I have not seen any others have yet. What do you think?

That's a nice map rns.  The water mark coloring gives it character.

When I first bought it, I was thrilled.  Then, the more and more I looked at it, the more worried I became that the water mark was NOT supposed to be there.  Then, I remembered that these are actual items USED in the movie.  Now, i just can't wait to get it and see it in person. My husband likes it because, even though it is upside down, it looks like it says "SAIL" and we love to go on cruises.

The wanted poster weith the star is my favorite.  And you can tell exactly where it came from on the card.  

Technically, the Grim and Buckbeak cards are creature cards and not props, so would you still include them with the props?

I consider them the same as props, although technically they are creature cards.  I currently am storing my creature cards in a tin marked "PROPS".  It seemed silly for me to separate them (along with the Monster Book) by themselves.

Oh, I agree. I am actually suprised that the Monster Book is considered a creature card and not a prop.  After all, technically, it just a book ;)

I always thought the Whomping Willow should have been included in the Creature set instead of the Prop set, if you choose to differentiate the 2 catagories.  I suppose it doesn't really matter, but a moving tree that tries to bash the crap out of whatever comes near seems like more of a 'Creature' to me.

I classified them as being creatures, something that is living.  In that case, the Whomping Willow should be considered a creature and not a prop!!

I think I understand why the Monster Book of Monsters was classified as a creature -- it bites!

I really like the wanted posters, too.  I bought them both from the same dealer and at first, I was going to get only the first one (with the swatch of Sirius' hair).  Then I thought if I bought the swatch with the star, I could sell it.  Once I had it in my hands, though, I couldn't part with it.

I have a grim card, but for now it's in a plastic holder until I decide whether I want to put it in my album.  I very much want a Buckbeak feather, someday!  And yes, rns, I have a full set of filmcards, but I'm still waiting for one in the mail.  Now, on to the costumes!

The names are a bit fuzzy from the silver pen, but I still like it! :D

If you like it, that is all that matters.  I actually like it too.  Wouldn't be able to afford the real triple auto, or any of their single autos, myself either!! I would be happy with that.  Did the seller tell you when and where they signed it?

The seller include a "Certificate of Authenticity" with the card.  Actually it's a laserjet printed sheet signed by the seller.  It states that the card was hand-signed on May 30, 2004 at the world premiere of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" at the Oldeon Cineplex, Leicester Square London, England.  The seller is from Georgia US so she must have flown there for the event.  She also has other auctions for other cards that were hand-signed and she has an ebay store.

Thanks for the link!!  Im et a guy at a card show with loads of autos signed by famous actors and such.  He says he travels all over to premieres and such to get these.  It was great talking with him and getting his opinion on the attitudes of certain actors. He also had a photo album of him with all the actors so you knew that he really did meet them.  It is very possible that your seller does the same thing.  Maybe it is even the same person that was at the show?  Vendors do come from all over and there were people there from Georgia I think.  I collected loads of business cards.  will need to take a look.

I've looked at it closely and it seems to be part of the robe material.  Were there names on the robes?  I was thinking it might be tip of a black letter.

According to the HP website, I am in Slytherin, which is fine with me since I like snakes, and green!!!

As for the black on the dual variant, Anna, I know names were on the back, and I think lines in the very front and maybe arms.  If anything, it would have to be from the ones in the very front (like were it zippers up) because it would have to be something very close to the patch.  Someone has to be able to do a freeze frame from the movie and post a icture of cedric.

I don't remember that there was a good close-up of Cedric.  Plus, the Quidditch match was dark and gray from the storm, so it's hard to see the robes.

I couldn't find the picture of the badge.  But since I also have a variant like this, I can tell you that the edge of the badge (the part Anna has) is not super thick, but it is thick.  The actualy badge part (with the badger on it) is very thick.  

Ok so it is probably from the sewn on badge on the front.  Maybe next film we will have a better picture of Cedric and can see what the bit of black is. :)

Beautiful card, grecopa!  I had a damaged update Daily Prophet with little on the swatch.  Artbox replaced it with a low numbered card that had a very nice swatch.

It's interesting that you got the last unfogging card.  They had only one Slytherin tie available a couple of months ago, so they must have very few replacements left.

Is there a pattern do the lower numbered cards have better swatches or is it just the ones they have  :-\

I think they hold back an assortment -- regular, variant, low numbers, and high numbers.  

Yeah, I dont think they keep all the good varients. I'm got a nice varient from Anna and it was pack pulled. Wasnt it Anna :-\

No mention at all about it.  It was grouped with 2 other different custumes in the photo on the auction and it was'nt very easy to see.  I just figured it was a 3 color.  The bright green is sort of velvet material.  I payed an average price for it.  Good for me! ;D

Tricky!  I scanned the cards, then took digital photos of the cells with a light behind them.  Then I cut and pasted the lighted cells onto the cards in my Photoshop program.

Fiddly but well worth it ;)

Nice cards! I have a film cell card with the same cells (well near enough to it) as your Harry in the clock tower one (the one with close up shots of Harry and Hermione in class) but its a Hermione punching Draco film card. The film cells are very cool... I only have one other, but its a nice close up shot of Harry's face in the Knight bus.

I have been watching feather cards for a lonf time, and some had grey feathers, with white.  I emailed the sellers to see if the white was part of the feather, or the back of the card. Most times, it was the card.

Wow, I just had the most AMAZING pack ever. Two packs left in the box, I think this is going to be a dud box. I notice the pack feels a little thick so i think, cool, grim fur, ron sweater, or hermione sweater. Well I open the pack and there is no thick card. Instead, there is 1 costume and 2 prop cards. The costume is a Gryffindor Tie costume card 174/330. The two props? One is a Fizzing Whizzbees #40/430 (plain yellow), the other is a Unfogging the Future. But wow...this is one of the three coolest unfogging I have ever seen (the other two being the one with the flying hourglass, and the sun) Well the card i pulled is 732/930. The swatch is of a hand, with lot's of little markings all over it. I almost flipped out! I've never, ever had a pack with this kind of luck! (I did pull a pack with both variations of the divination classroom prop piece) I will post a picture of the prop card tomorrow. Wow, what a great little suprise at 1:00 AM in the morning when you get that pack opening craving.

Also in regards to double or triple card packs it has happened to a few shackers that I know of, I had two grimm furs in the same pack you can imagine how thick that pack was busting at the seams.  I know someone else had a double that I can remember.  I haven't heard of 3 in a pack, so that may be a first for shackers.  I don't remember hearing anything like that in SS, but it was much more possible in Update as were dud boxes.

They seem to have worked out some of the packing problems with inserts.

I finally got a Monster Book card!  I had it on my watch list and just happened to log onto ebay with less than one minute to go in the auction.  My DSL was running sluggish and I thought I had missed it, but I ended up winning!  What a thrill.  ;D  The auction was a bit confusing though.  They had a photos of wood and fur cards.  But either is fine and the price was right.  I don't have it yet, but I have a tracking # in hand.  :)  I think that will be it for me with POAU.  Nowhere near a master set, but enough of the cool cards for me to be happy.  8)

I think they are just rare full stop. The number of people who have pulled them are few and far between I certainly don't believe 2/3 of the print of that card (the approx usual number) went in the packs.

Yup.  I am serious :)  Hard to believe.  The seller looked at the back of the card to see whatit was numbered to, and said the price.  I really thought my ears were clogged or something. I opened my wallet right away.  I had all the other HP cards that were there, but maybe I should have asked their prices too :P

I was there the second day of the show.  I find it hard to believe that the card was even still there.

Since it wasn't priced, people may have looked past it thinking it would be too high for them. When we go to flea markets in the summer, I tend to skip the places that don't have anything priced because they try to size me up which translates to them asking more than I'm willing to pay.

You know, I think this is one of the few cards that you really can't go wrong with.  All of the swatches have character.  Mine is blank, but it's the antique look of the paper that makes each card one of a kind.

Wow, ECL, what an awesome swatch!  That's one of my favorite cards from that set.

Hey, I have a two-stripe Slyterin, too!  I've been wanting a Gryffindor to match it, but for some reason, other cards and auctions keep getting in the way. ::)

Cindy the 2 (bold) stripe Gryffs come along so rarely don't they- Tom has one (of course) but it's tied up with a master set so it's not exactly easy to get hold of...

I sold the Pink Top because at the time I was going for a master set o PoAU now it was sold for MM ;D But, this may sound weird, but I'm going for the PoAU one for my Emma Collection because I like the picture better :-X

I agree with you completely--I love that picture! I had given up hope for one for my collection, but was totally surprised when I got one as a present for my birthday!  And I will say, it is worth it!  There is one up on e-bay right now.  Last time I checked, it was still at a good price. 

I recently got the Woolly sweater card, but it has gotten lost in the mail.   :'(  I'm hoping it finds it's way here--the one you have looks amazing!

It really is amazing because there is about 5 strands of what looks like silver thread going through it (you can see it on the picture) and looks so cool to just look at ;D

Yes to both!  I thought Lost Boys was the coolest thing ever when it was released soooo long ago.  Now it's just cheesy.  ::)  But still really fun!  I've read all of Anne Rice's vampire books, but quite a while ago, so I don't remember a lot.  I should read them again.  I recorded Underworld and From Dusk till Dawn off the tv.  Those are good!

Well, I think any of the main character's cards are pretty valuable.  But, Hermione's woolly sweater and pink jumper are definitely two of the more sought after costume cards. I have seen some pretty good deals on Ron's sweater, but lately I have seen some increased attention given to it. Regardless, they are truly wonderful cards!  :D

Nothing fancy, but I picked up this Divination variant because I thought the pattern looked pretty nice.  It has a reflective silvery thing in it too  :D

There are three different-coloured background swatches on the Divination props Mike and the dark blue ones have tiny mirrors sewn into the designs similar to the one ECL has just received.
They're some of my favourite cards because they're decorative and so varied with the swatches.
The red swatches quite often have a lot of fine metallic gold stitching on them, sometimes with tiny beads and what look like tiny gold pipe cleaners sewn into the designs.
The purple swatches I've seen have similar metallic stitching on them to the red swatches, but instead of beads, they tend to have small sequins sewn into the designs and some of them also have different coloured threads on them too.
Like I said ... very varied and so decorative! ;) ;D

I think Sam's swatch comes from the picture, part of Sirius' shoulder.  The stars have very sharp points.  As far as I know, there were only two cards with them -- HPfamily has one and I have the other.

It does look like a part of his shoulder, or part of the crease in his shirt.  It has a fuzzy edge, which makes me think its not the star

Congrats Mo, the Cedric is definately one of the greatest costumes of all the Potter sets, totally amazing.  :o  :D  And the Unfogging Prop is also a very nice one. :)

Yea but probably paid one of the greatest prices to aquire it....But I thought it would be nice to have a true and unique show piece in the collection...(that is the swatch variant of course)...The Pear Trees card will probably be the holy grail card actually in the collection....thanks Thomas

I just purchased this card today from Card Vault off of  :ebay:.  This is the scan that came with the listing.  I'll post a new scan of the card when I receive it.  It's one of those cards I needed like a whole in the head, but I couldn't get it out of my mind after I had seen it.  I don't remember Lupin wearing a black shirt in the movie, and I can't fit the material swatch with any of the other costume cards.  I welcome your theories and comments concerning this card.

i thought that variant of this cards was from the the suite as from the image the material hes wareing looks the same colour :-\ :-\ thats what i thought ;)

There is a thread devoted to this particular card, but I can't find it at the moment.  Basically, it's this:  There are two versions of the Lupin shirt card.  One is gray and the other is black.  I asked Artbox when the set was released and was told the the black is from his jacket (they couldn't clarify whether if was his suit jacket or his robe) and the gray is from his shirt.

That's all well and good, except he did not wear a plain gray shirt in the movie.  The shirt David Thewlis wore had gray, white, and pink stripes.  I've watched the movie dozens of times, paused to really look at the shirt, and looked at all of the screencaps on Veritaserum and The Leaky Cauldron. The gray shirt is actually a prop.  You can see it near the end of the movie when Harry talks to Lupin as he's packing to leave Hogwarts.  Lupin flicks his wand, and a case with clothes and shoes closes.  The shirt is hanging in the case.

I don't think Artbox knew the gray shirt was a prop.  They were probably told it was used in the movie, but assumed that the shirt was actually worn.

Thanks!  I need a Gryffindor tie and a Rosmerta dress.  The Rosmerta will probably be the more difficult of the two.  I was heartbroken to be outbid a week or so ago on a perfect Gryff tie -- I tried to place one more bid before the end of the auction, but wasn't able to get it in. :'(

I do beg to differ (but then I always was contrary - it's odd that my mother didn't call me Mary), but don't forget that due to the sheer number of PoAU cases produced the Marauders Map card was tough to find (I think I pulled 1 in 6 cases and it was a dead dull one to boot - I bought a variant in the end ;)).

Thanks Roz.  I didn't realize they produced so much of the POAU.  Always thought that POA and POAU were short printed but goes to show what I know  ;)  I really like the map and the Fred/George dual.  The dual is a bit more affordable than the POA individual autos for George & Fred.

1 in 6 cases is rough but I sure you pulled some other very nice cards  :D

PoA was short printed as there was a tremendous demand for it (500 cases were made).

PoAU was crazily overproduced - something like 2700 cases (although I think Artbox said 1500 but the numbers just didn't stack up). Just look at the numbered filmcards - aren't they out of 900 or so? Astonishing!

No, I really didn't pull anything to write home about - with PoA pulling a Marauders Map was an achievement. I didn't get a Dan/Ron/Hermione auto...

That's right.  There were nine filmcards, each with a print run of 900, for a total of 8,100 filmcards.  Cases were supposed to have three filmcards.  Artbox held back a certain number of each card and some cases didn't have three filmcards, so I'd guess there were around 2,500 cases.

wow! that's just crazy numbers.  no wonder boxes are still reasonably available.

This is one I have had for a while now, but have been super slow to scan.  :-[
